Grilled Chicken Sandwich
Precious O.

We went to Saltgrass for Memorial Day weekend after a day on the beach. It was a fast casual restaurant that was completely packed when we arrived. We got free bread for the table before ordering. Our server was probably having a bad day or was stressed from the business, because she was short with us and gave one word responses to questions. The food was fine, not the best but was pretty average steakhouse food. I ordered the chicken sandwich and the bread was honestly the best part because it was so soft and fluffy. I tried the macaroni and cheese and it was thick and lacked flavor. Lots of hits, lots of misses. Maybe worth a try if you're in the area but not somewhere I would probably come back to.

Salt grass is alway a fav! Service is alway good and so is the food! We love their happy hour! Saltgrass is that spot for a dinner date or chill bar meet up!

In a mixup of sorts, we ended up at the Saltgrass in Galveston on the wrong night from when we actually made our reservations. We told the hostess no hard feelings as it was our mistake and that if we could get our name on the list (it was in the midst of a busy Fourth of July weekend night) we would be much obliged. They actually were able to give us a booth with an extra chair to accommodate our party of five with my parents, wife and youngest daughter. I think we only waited for half an hour, so very thankful for their help after our mistake. Our serve Caitlin was very nice and helpful with all of our questions regarding different cuts of steaks and sides. Between us we had a Porterhouse (the largest steak on the menu), a sirloin, chicken fried steak, and a ribeye. (My daughter and I shared hence four meals instead of five). Across the board we thought the seasoning was great and cooked to perfection as she confirmed when she took our order. My daughter also wanted to try the Oscar (crab and asparagus topping) so we added that and she said she enjoyed it. The bill came out to about $170 before tip and we left a little more than 20% for the great help. It was busy but it didn't feel super crowded in the dining area. Though they had to seat us close to the bar area to accommodate a fifth chair at the booth, we never felt like we were in the way, nor did we feel like there was a distracting amount of traffic even though they were quite busy. Perhaps only thing negative to mention was my mother's drink took a while to get there, but finally Caitlin said she wouldn't come back without and she returned with it just as promised. It's just east of the pleasure pier so parking can be interesting, but they do have their own lot. Landry-affiliated restaurants are all over Galveston area and certainly some are better than others, but I'd say this one is worth a visit.

To start off, we were sat very quickly on a FRIDAY night! Our server Greg was amazing! Drinks, apps, and side salads were served extremely fast. The cocktails were superb at an amazing price point especially during happy hour, the well old fashioned was made with bulleit! We had the prime rib and Shrimp and Artichoke pasta. 10/10

Thoroughly enjoyed that experience at this restaurant. The price point was good for what we had. I'mma say I have no complaints. Good job guys.

This is a very popular steakhouse in Galveston, I highly recommend a reservation. We didn't have one so we waited about 30-45 minutes for a table on a Friday night around 6 PM. We'll work the wait... big, good quality steaks chargrilled to your liking. My daughter & I split a 12 oz. NY steak with a side of sweet potato fries, and our choice of salad, we got the Caesar. We also had a side of brussel sprouts & a baked sweet potato. Dinner is also served with a round of sweet, brown bread that comes to the table warm. Rustic decor, just what you would want in a Texas Steak House, looked busy with locals & tourists alike. They have a lot of variety on the menu...ribs, chicken fried steak as well as seafood items to add on or order as entrees. We were so full from all the sides we ordered...no room for dessert!

That being said, it had been some time since I've gotten some proper fish-n-chips. I had to remedy that. Especially since the BBQ fiasco the other day, I was going to go on a hunger strike, but once I made the sign, I got potato chip fingers on it and started to eat it. So, I decided to fight fire with fire, and figured I would eat myself happy again. Which I'm never mad about. Sometimes I make myself angry just so I can eat myself happy. And now, the rest of the story. I have learned that I enjoy Cod fish for my fish-n-chips. And I think also Haddock. I am not a fisher nor a fish. So it's hard for me to say. But I know Cod is one for sure. I also sometimes have baby mouth and am afraid of new things. I do know I love my fish battered and deep fried. I also know that Shark Shack had good reviews for their fish, so, that was all I needed to hear. Plus, it was a perfect little eatery with bar seating, table seating, and gifts! So you can bet your bottom dollar tomorrow I ordered the English fish-n-chips. Boy oh boy. Just like how Britain colonized all those countries back when it was the cool thing to do, these fish and chips colonized my taste buds. Respectfully. This plate came with FIVE logs of fish. FIVE! Maybe they were tubes of fish? Honestly, I don't care what shape they came in, they looked perfectly crunchy and perfectly brown and perfectly fish. The super cool extra bonus? These fish came with CRISPIES! I've only ever seen crisps with fish from Long John Silvers, whose fish is probably as far from Cod or Haddock as legally possible. I actually think one of my pieces of fish from there had shoelaces. Didn't matter. Still ate it. Respectfully. (If you aren't privileged enough to know what fish crispies are, there little batter pieces that fry or fall off the fish as they cook. Basically little crumblies. If you make a wish over a fork of them and get the forkful in your mouth without dropping any, your wish will come true). Homemade tartar sauce was good, but there was a certain flavor profile that I wasn't a fan of. It was still good to use on the fish rods, it just tasted a little too much out of the tartar sauce field for me. The meal was wrapped up nice and tight with lovely square-cut fries. Perfect doneness. Perfect Ketchup vessel. I could just stare at a pile of them all night. Mostly because I'm weird. I decided to lean more toward the 4-star side, so here we are. While in Galveston for a quick weekend getaway, we wanted to go out for dinner. Katie's was my first choice, but the wait was too long, so I pulled up Yelp to see what else was recommended. Shark Shack had great reviews, and when we arrived there was zero wait, so we went for it. The one area where I docked a star was the service. We were seated immediately but waited quite a while for our server to appear, and then even longer to get our drinks. I was so excited for a margarita, but when it arrived in a plastic cup, I was immediately disappointed. Plastic cups are for the beach and nightclubs, not a restaurant with a bar. And that's not where the awful drink experience ended -- it was so weak and just not good at all. Our server seemed so disinterested in everything: taking our order, answering questions, and when it came time to pay, we had to wait ages to see him and wave him down. The food was decent with no major complaints. It wasn't "blow your mind" amazing, but it was good. The owner -- well, I assume he was the owner -- came and spoke to us when he found out my husband was military, and he was really nice, friendly, and very supportive of the military community, offering a very generous military discount. That definitely raises the rating and is much appreciated, so thank you. Overall, the big fixes for me would be the service and the drink situation. I can't say we would rush to come back just because we love Katie's for the service, food, and drinks..

Good thing he did, because we ended up ordering lots of appetizers and definitely needed the space! Everything we tried was outstanding. The ahi tuna wontons were perfectly crispy and packed with flavor. The ceviche had a great balance of ingredients with just the right amount of spice. And the fried pickles were hands down the best I've had anywhere. I'm not sure if it was the ranch, the pickles themselves, or both, but they were incredible. For entrées, we had the salmon and the gumbo. We were so full from the appetizers that we didn't eat much of them, but both were excellent and I would absolutely order them again. The Old Fashioned was also delicious, with an interesting flavor that tasted almost like brown sugar--perhaps from the walnut bitters. I highly recommend this place. Fried Shrimp po boys - it's good. A long time favorite and barely out of first place for my all time favorite. Shrimp perfectly fried. Bun just right. Lettuce and sauce hard to beat. Gumbo - couple two tre splashes of hot sauce and it is just as good as any of them. We came in a day when it was in the 40's and it sure hit the spot against the cold. Highly recommend crumbling up some hush puppies in it. We got a lot and probably could have made it work with just 1 pint. The platter - (keep in mind my wife is a yankee from Oklahoma) coconut mid- did not like the sauce "too sweet". Boiled shrimps - good would eat another helping right now. The pricing was a sticking point. I can accept that venues on the seawall need to cover more costs, but this quality didn't match the charge. Finally, the building in general just felt off. The layout was odd. All high seating (bar stools) makes it difficult for anyone with mobility issues. The theming is thorough, going with the pirate motif, however they also just phoned it in for most of it. The tabletops are screwed into the barrels beneath, with the exposed heads sticking above the table top. The sparse decorations placed inside are mostly from a Halloween store or Pirates of Caribbean props.
