Lunch time at Rainforest Cafe found my daughter and I ordering appetizers. A day before Thanksgiving, the Sawgrass Mills Mall was surprisingly slow. Arriving a bit after 1 p.m., we were quickly seated and waited about 5 minutes for a server. Provided menus, it took another 5 minutes for our server to return with water. Hungry - but not too hungry - we decided on the Awesome Appetizer Adventure, which included chimi-cha-chas, spinach and artichoke dip, cheese sticks, chicken strips, guacamole and tortilla chips, along with an appetizer order of Fried Pickles, which included crispy fried pickles served with a jalapeno ranch sauce. Water (with lemon) served as our beverage. Our appetizer order took almost 25 minutes to arrive at the table. Although tasty, the Fried Pickles could be a potential problem for those ordering as they were laced with fried onion strips. Onion or onion strips were not listed as an ingredient item on the menu. The "Awesome Appetizer Adventure" was nothing more than standard appetizer fare. It rated "okay" on my satisfaction chart. Great atmosphere and decor - friendly and polite (yet slow) service. Went to sawgrass to buy some more things as always and the kids wanted to stop by again...to my surprise I was greeted with welcoming smile, we stood in line less than 30days and was seated. Our waiter quickly came and took our orders. Kids place there's and we place ours. They told us walk around the place. Long story short. The kids had a blast. Food came quick and tasty. So I went here with my kiddos to enjoy lunch after church! The atmosphere is perfect for the children! While we were waiting for our food we did the scavenger hunt that was located on the kids menu. About 40 minutes later we received our food. My two youngest had the Python Pasta, one with marinara sauce and the other with alfredo sauce. Their food seemed to be delicious and hot! They completely finished their plates. I ordered the Tahitian Tango and it smelt yummy but my fries were cold and it seemed to be a hair in my food!! I notified the waitress and she immediately returned it to the back. The manager returned with the same plate of food in less than 3 minutes stating it was a new plate and that it was not a hair but a piece of banana leaf. COMPLETE LIE! It was the same plate! So I rarely ever post reviews however after visiting this restaurant, I felt obligated to let other families know about our experience before deciding to visit this place. So to begin, my husband and I took our 18 month old son to this restaurant for him to enjoy the scenery and have a fun experience at a restaurant. The hostess placed us at a corner table where there were no animals or scenery for my son to enjoy. We kept quiet and proceeded to order our meals. Midway through eating I noticed what appeared to be a roach crawling right near my husbands head on the top of his booth seat. I discreetly made him aware as there were other families surrounding us. My husband called over the waitress who proceeded to take a cloth and kill the roach. But, before the waitress made it to our table we were able to get photos to make management aware. A young woman approached our table shortly after whom identified herself as management. The young lady politely apologized and stated she would discount our bill and offered a free dessert. Seeing as how my husband and I totally lost our appetite and did not even finish our dinners, we decided we did not wish to accept anymore food. The manager brought us our check and only removed an appetizer that was approximately 15$ give or take. Seeing as to how we did not even finish our meals due to a roach being at our table, I felt a little more could have been done to accommodate us in this situation. So families, I warn you, for the amount of money you pay for this quality of restaurant and food, I fare warn you to reconsider but I will let the photos speak for themselves. read more

I am visiting from California to celebrate my sons birthday. He really wanted to eat here to kickoff his birthday celebration. Unfortunately, even after telling the waiter and filling out the online reservation notes. No happy birthday song or special treat for him. The service was extremely slow. If you asked for something, it would be 15-20mins until you would get it. The guy was extremely nice but very short staffed and mediocre food. It's very unfortunate because I will never be back and have loved it since I was a kid. read more

Wait time was not bad (30 minutes). However, once seated we waited for 25 minutes and no waiter/waitress came to the table. We went to the host to ask and they had a manager come take our order. After getting the appetizer, another 30 minutes passed and no food. Then the person who was supposed to be our waiter asked if we were enjoying ourselves, we smiled/laughed and said we are still waiting on our food. He says he can get the food. The food comes and you can tell it's been sitting for quite a while. The shrimp tacos fell through the taco shell. Drinks were ok. Mashed potatoes were very salty. Fried shrimp was ok. Part restaurant but mostly a kid's amusement place, so if you have kids with you, it's pretty much of a must for them or for you to buy them a novelty toy, shirt or stuffed animal. As for food, it's totally sub par as well as way overpriced. You're paying to the novelty whimsical entertaining atmosphere of the place. The chicken nuggets typical fast foodie types, and though it's been a while since I've eaten here, the best bet I found were the fish tacos. They are now trying to offer those very much in the vogue type signature wraps, but are clearly missing the mark. Any drink other than beer by the bottle is so-so but enjoyable to sit under the giant mushroom with its misty waterfall. This is not the place to go to eat. It's a place to go for amusement, basically children's amusement. For food two star but because of the novelty of the place I'll rate it more as a child's novelty shop saying it's OK and going three stars on that basis, but only on that basis. read more

This place is definitely a tourist trap or a restaurant for people who want to be entertained by cheap jungle like experience. We went to the restaurant with our 2 kids thinking they'll be entertained by the experience, but i was wrong. Their jungle show consisted of lighting (aka lights in the restaurant go on and off) with thunderstorms sound and animal movements with minimal motions . If your kid is sensitive to noise or afraid of thunders and lighting, don't take them to the restaurant. They'll be scared. Now for the food, we ordered pirk osso bucco, rain forest burger, kid grilled cheese, and kids hot dog. The food was decent, but the service was really slow . It took a while for the food to come out. The server was nowhere to be found for about 20 minutes for me to pay. Overall, i am not impressed and dont recommend this place to anyone. If you want to go for the experience, just hang out by the rain forest souvenirs store by the restaurant, and you can still hear and see the show from there. You can get better food elsewhere at the mall. read more

One of the worst restaurant service experiences ever. We (party of 6) had reservations for 5:30. We were told we needed to wait while they set the table up even though there were at least 5 other suitable tables empty and available. After several repeated status inquiries we were finally seated at 5:50 but then had to wait another 7-8 minutes before a server came by (again the restaurant was only about 2/3 filled). Seizing our opportunity we ordered both our drinks and dinners. Drinks arrived in a reasonably timely manner and about 15 minutes later two of the entrees arrived. After another 5 minutes another two arrived. And then the last couple who were sharing an entree waited and waited and waited until I finally got up from my meal to flag down a manager and asked him what was going on? He apparently went to the kitchen where that last entree finally arrived but with the steak rare when it been ordered "no pink." This about 30 minutes after initially ordered. And at no time did the initial server ever come back to see if everything was ok or if we needed anything else (meals were delivered by runners not the server). We only saw her when we were anxious to pay the check and leave. Rainforest seriously needs to revisit their entire service staff training (or perhaps they don't even offer any). read more

To be fair we went in right before closing so this may have effected the quality of my food... But the fajita chicken was really really dry. Didn't enjoy it at all. There wasn't nearly enough sour cream, tomatoes, cheese or guac, and too much lettuce. Overall it's a cool restauraunt and you go for the experience but I wasn't impressed with my food. read more

My family is visiting from California so we decided to take my niece there for lunch for the experience. Our server/bartender Chris was absolutely amazing. He was personable and we had the best time. Two people at the table have food allergies, so they sent the chef out to take our order. The food was fresh and very good. Who doesn't love good food and a fun environment?! This place is awesome and a solid 5 stars! They entice you for the very beginning with the rainforest theme - animals hanging from vines of varying lengths, jungle sounds playing in the background and huge boulders wrapping around the front of the restaurant. Also, you pass by their huge, FREE, indoor children's playground on the way to the hostess station (which is a large purple elephant), so if you're not feeling the pull to eat at the Rainforest Cafe, any kiddos in your party will definitely pull you in its direction! After they call your name (which you leave at the large purple elephant hostess station), you follow animal tracks -conveniently leading you through the gift shop - to the second hostess station where that host or hostess leads you to your table. If you choose to sit at the bar, you have your choice of animal butt stools so that you look cool while sipping on your beverage of choice. And awesome side note - they sell Icees!! I scoped out the place (my 2-year old nephew insisted on giving me multiple tours) and honestly, there's not a bad seat in the entire restaurant. If you're not sitting next to an animatronic animal scene, you're sitting next to a fish tank or pseudo waterfall with smoke billowing over you every 10 minutes or so. Also every 10 minutes, a different animatronic animal scene "goes off" ( they move, make noise, blow smoke whatever that particular animal does) and after each animal group goes off, they all go off and thunder and lighting fills the atmosphere and it feels like a big rainforest party. As for the food, there are plenty of options to choose from and the portions are large and delicious. Even my nephew (who is a notoriously picky eater) ate his macaroni and cheese, garlic bread and apple slices. I opted for a barbecue grilled chicken smothered in barbecue sauce and topped with gooey cheese and mushrooms. My side items were broccoli and scrumptious smashed potatoes. None of us had room for dessert, but we saw a few other patrons order a chocolate lava cake that is presented with a sparkler on top - awesome! I definitely want to go back and try out other menu items and explore the "rainforest" again! read more

As I type this, I'm at the restaurant. I'm a local. Needed something convenient at the mall. Never have gone because of reviews. Waiter was extremely polite. Drinks came about 10 min after the order. Kids meals were great. My salad was a soggy. Shame on me, should have asked for dressing on the side. Asked for a second plate so my kids can share, still waiting for it. Extra napkin request came when the meal was near finished. Lastly, thank goodness my drink had ice. While I love the Rainforest Cafe as a chain and concept, it's too commercialized and usually a hassle. The food is mediocre for the price and it's usually really crowded and full of rowdy children. I don't order anything to drink because everything is super sweet. Yesterday on our visit, my boyfriend and I were looking forward to stopping in for a late lunch snack on a shopping break at Sawgrass. There was a 30-45 min wait, which we put our name on the list and walked around. We didn't get too far before he received a text that our table was ready. We were seated and our waitress was very friendly. He ordered the Rainforest Ricky juice (which, as I suspected, was super sweet). We decided to share the 'Taste of the Islands' which was Caribbean Coconut Shrimp, dynamite scallops and shrimp, blackened tilapia topped with mango salsa, and your choice of a side. We decided on French fries which weren't the best but also weren't the worst. It was enough food to share, especially with the complementary chips and salsa/guacamole that our waitress brought because the kitchen was behind. We literally waited over an hour for our food. When our food got to the table our waitress apologized and said she'd let her manager know but the manager never stopped by our table. I guess they didn't really care. Anyways, I didn't try the 'dynamite scallops and shrimp' part of the dish because I didn't know that they were baked in cheese and butter. Apparently there weren't very good because my boyfriend didn't like them. The scallops were super small and the cheese was curdled. The tilapia, mango salsa and coconut shrimp were very good though. If there is a next time, I'll have to sub the coconut shrimp for the dynamite shrimp and scallops. Overall, this wasn't a terrible experience but it could have been better. read more

I am giving this cafe five stars because it lived up to what we expected. Five of us went there for lunch. Four adults and one child. We all ordered something different from the menu and all of us were pleased with the service, food presentation, and the food itself. I ordered the fish and chips and it was fantastic. Beautifully cooked and delicious. The atmosphere was fun and my 5 year old niece was totally amazed at the special effects (animated animals, thunder and lightning storms, and huge fish tanks). There was even an area that had rain coming down. Very cool. Another thing I liked is that we weren't rushed. We took our time and enjoyed the unique ambience. Overall, this was a five star experience for our family. Oh, and souvenirs were reasonably priced and if you ordered certain drinks you got to keep the cups. This place was terrible , we arrived at 5:15 for our 5:30 reservations and then proceeded to wait 10 minutes for someone to serve us and finally one of the guys asked us if we had gotten waited on and ended up being our waiter. after putting in our order at about 5:40 we waiting for over an hour we finally got our food just before 7 , our waitress said he talked to the manager and the manager had ended up taking our appetizer off the bill. My boyfriend received his meal and ordered chips and salsa and got marinara sauce instead of the salsa. Rainforest Café has been a staple in the South Florida community for almost as long as I can remember. This was my first time back here since I was just a wee lad. Tucked away in the Sawgrass Mills Mall, this restaurant is way bigger on the inside than it looks. We arrived to Rainforest around 11:30 and by this time it was pretty empty. There was only one other table of folks in the section we were sat in. It was empty everywhere else. Our waitress greeted us and promptly and we ordered some drinks and the spinach and artichoke dip appetizer. We got our drinks pretty quickly and the cups they came in were so cute. You could choose from a variety of novelty cups to have your drinks prepared in and you got to also keep them. They light up and have cute little sayings on them along with images of animals. Because the restaurant had only opened up just before we got there, their opening staff count was pretty low. So, our waitress was working by herself, serving a number of tables by this point. So, because of this, it took a little bit for us to get our appetizer. We actually had to ask to make sure that they put in the order because 15 minutes had gone by and we didn't have it yet which is pretty long to wait for some chips and dip. When we finally got it, it was yummy. Not too long after we got the appetizer we got our main course. I got the double patty cheese burger with no bun and coleslaw. These burgers were THICK. I only had enough room in my tummy for less than half of one patty. I couldn't even touch the massive side of coleslaw that I got as a substitute for the usual fries. Now, I will say, this place is expensive. Be prepared to spend about $40 - $50 per person. My drink was $17 and my meal was $25. That's expensive. However, the portions are big and the atmosphere is great. The rainforest decor was truly something special. Throughout the entire restaurant, animatronics of jungle animals could be seen moving. It is actually very impressive to see, after all these years, the animatronics still working and seemingly kept in good condition. It is so cool when all the animals starts making noises and moving all at once. It is a cool experience even for me as a young adult. The food is good, the decor and animatronics were awesome and the drinks were yummy. It is indeed expensive and we did have to wait awhile for our food. However, it was fun despite that. I'll start off by saying I don't complain about any restaurant or service because I work ITB, but after today's experience, I felt the need to. Service: Poor Food: Decent My boyfriend and I came here earlier today for lunch & when we got there, he needed to find an employee to seat us, which is no big deal. The host sat us and said our server was going to be right with us, but after 10 minutes when the server still had not greeted us, he came back to get our drink order. We already knew what we wanted so we told him that as well. After more than 5 minutes, we finally got our drinks from the server, who didn't even greet us or look at us. We waited about 25-30 mins for our food, and when it came out, we saw a hair on the side of one of the dishes & told the server when she came back around. She just walked away with the plate& barely said anything, just mumbled about how she was sorry. The manager came over, apologized, and we got our 2nd dish as we were finishing the first one. We then noticed ANOTHER hair mixed in with the sauce (in the 1st dish) .... at that point, with the lack of service and the fact that we were basically done that 1st meal we decided not to say anything. The server came by but she would barely look at us and walked away as she was talking to us. I get she may have been busy but not bothering to even LOOK at your customers & having an attitude when they needed something is completely unacceptable. read more

Always a fan of these places. They are fun and just enjoyable for either a couple or a family. If you have young kids ask to sit next to the fish tanks. If you have kids that may scare easily - don't sit next to any of the moving animals - maybe sit closer to the entrance.
