***4.5 STARS*** It all started when I saw my former colleague post a cheesecake photo from Raintree Bakery Coffeehouse (RBC) earlier this month. She's originally from Japan and I really enjoyed working with her in Waikiki. We'd attend fam tours together and share food when I'd work on the weekends. We also dined together and took her to my favorite spots in Chinatown. We have similar palates so when she raved over the RBC's cheesecakes and went 2 days in a row, I just had to investigate. Located on the Ewa side of Pensacola Street, just across the street of Makiki First Hawaiian Bank with nearby neighbors of Von's Chicken, Auntie Pastos and Teruya's Andagi, RBC is a quaint coffee shop that offers breakfast, lunch (sandwiches and salads), assorted baked goods, coffees and teas. This past Monday I had some business matters at nearby Goodwill so after that I walked over to RBC with great anticipation. I bumped into 2 gentlemen as they were just walking out the door and immediately noticed the lights were off. I then saw their posted business hours and realized they are closed on Mondays. Sadly, I walked away empty handed on my first visit. I should have checked on Yelp on their business hours prior to coming here. Oh well... But I went back the very next day as I was determined to try their cheesecakes. Later that evening, I was meeting up with some foodie friends for dinner where the restaurant doesn't offer dessert, so I wanted to bring something to share. I made sure to come to RBC before their closing time of 4pm. I luckily scored street parking and was so excited as I walked in and immediately checked out their display case of baked goods. I was pleased to have read that no MSG, artificial colors, flavors, or preservatives are used here. As my Japanese friend highly recommended, I got the Lilikoi cheesecake and added the guava and chocolate ones. They also had raspberry, which I do enjoy, but visually I didn't find it appealing. I paid for my purchase, drove home and put them in the refrigerator until it was time for dinner. VERDICT: The cheesecakes here are sure TASTY. I found them to be rich and creamy but not dense and heavy. As a personal favorite, the Lilikoi one stood out, with guava second and chocolate was my least favorite. For the 3 cheesecakes, my total was just a little over $17 so I did find them on the pricier side. However, you are getting good quality and it's important to support local businesses in my books. Customer service was above average. The 2 male staff were cordial to me and I did appreciate the staff showing me my purchase before walking out. Overall, a very pleasant experience at RBC where I'll be back to get more of their baked goods and hopefully dine-in to grab a bite one day. I did see some yummy looking food pics on Yelp where I would like to also sample their sandwiches and their iced drinks. read more

I was in the neighborhood shopping and stopped by to get a mid afternoon cuppa. Because it did remind of comfortable tearooms in England. Got a Lilikoi bar (delicious) & cup of hot Morocco mint tea. Went together perfectly. Service was low key & attentive. Need to come back. read more

We came here for lunch intending to take our food to go. Elliot greeted us as soon as we walked in and was so friendly, and the place had just one other customer, so we decided to stay. We started off with two cappuccinos and they were excellent. I usually like sweetener in my coffees but it wasn't needed in this one! The good was also excellent. I had the breakfast with prosciutto and eggs with pesto. What a delicious combination. I would have never thought of it. My wife had the pastrami sandwich which she loved. She could not finish her meal so she had to take half of her sandwich home. We also bought a bunch of bakery items to eat later. They were also do delicious. I recommend the lilikoi bars. I happen to walk by this little cafe on my way to the bus stop from Kaiser on Pensacola. I looked in to see what they had in their display case (there's a rope in front of the door with a sign saying to wait for an escort ). A sweet gentleman (Elliott) wearing a mask came to the door and ushered me in. I asked a million questions and discovered the two guys who own the place have been in business for nine years! Who knew? Unless you're a regular in this part of town you might miss this cozy cafe. I checked out the sweet offerings in the display case and ordered one of almost everything because I couldn't make up my mind! There's a little eating area in the back and a couple of tables and chairs in the front area. There's some beautiful artwork to add color to this bright little cafe and the owners, Gerry (he was in the kitchen) and Elliott, are oh so gracious. I will be back to try their Turmeric Chai (which is supposed to heal everything, including arthritis) and one of their savoury options. read more

Stumbled into this adorable cafe today while I was waiting for a near by appointment! Owners Elliott and Jerry are so warm and welcoming and venue cute and quaint. It is so good to see more people in the Cafe after the closure due to covid. The cafe doesn't look like much from outside, but inside flows an intangible air of optimism. Muffins are hefty with goodness, and the latte always smooth. Hospitality and smiles from Elliott and Jerry make me feel at home; this is a hidden jewel of Honolulu. I have brought many friends to this quaint & quiet little oasis of a cafe, but have never written a review. Heard they were closing shop at the end of 2025 so I decided to finally write a review. Owners Elliott & Jerry are very polite, gracious & accommodating hosts. Even though my friends & I are there for a couple of hours, we always looked around to make sure we weren't taking up a valuable table. We visited Raintree mainly for their coffee & baked goods. The 1st time I had their latte, it was uniquely different & delicious. The difference? Organic coffee with quality ingredients. Hard to imagine that would matter, but it does. They got me sold on organic coffee & ingredients. We've tried many of their baked goods, their scones, muffins, lilikoi cheesecake, guava cheesecake, croissants are all so moist & delicious. On our most recent visit, it was getting pretty warm midday & after our coffee & pastry, we wanted something cold to drink. Elliott suggested an iced green with roasted rice tea so we thought, "why not?" We were surprised at the flavor of it & it will be my new "go to" cold drink. It will be sad when they close up shop as we will need to find a new place that has the same quality service, ambience, coffee, tea & baked goods. read more

Perfect for spending a cute, cozy afternoon with some treats. I came here to read for a bit and love how relaxing, spacious, and bright the cafe is. The folks who work here are super nice. The gentleman who took my order suggested the peach flavor for my cream soda and it was very tasty. My husband joined me later and ordered cream soda as well, and the gentleman recommended raspberry because it will pair well with the guava cheesecake he had also ordered. It was the right choice! The cheesecake was scrumptious. Loved everything and every moment here. I can't wait to come back and perhaps try the breakfast or lunch food, or have a glass of wine (they have a beer and wine menu)! read more

I returned to Oahu and went straight into the 14 day quarantine. The morning after I was done with my 14 days I came straight here for breakfast. Chose a wonderful little corner to dine in. There's a waterfall and a lovely view of the restaurant. I love all the thoughtful and enchanting details they put into their decorating. The eggs were delicious and when I was done I ordered two boxes of pastries to share with my family. They raved about the cheesecakes being so flavorful and fluffy and my Mom said she wanted to keep the lilikoi bars to herself but was good and shared with others. Before I left one of the gentlemen in the restaurant shared that they were going to stay open longer on weekends and were able to sell wine and other drinks. It sounded like fun! But a few days later the island went back into lockdown so I imagine all their plans are being put on hold. Hopefully they will be able to offer this option once dining in resumes. I'm heading back to my Mom's tomorrow and will be stopping by here for another box of treats to take. Maybe this time we'll try the muffins too? read more

Very unique and cute little place. Kind of gives a European vibe, there's a velvet rope that blocks off the entrance and you are greeted as they let you in. Some cool organic soda flavors on the menu, the raspberry is great. I waist there were more breakfast options but I got the eggs and prosciutto with a butter muffin and it was amazing. A breakfast I could have forever. My coworker did a breakfast run and I couldn't be more grateful for introducing me to such a wonderful cafe. Parking is on the street but if you are going for breakfast (~7-8AM), its not that busy. He got us muffins and coffee - what an MVP. The coffee was on the precipice of strong and bitter but perfectly arrives at just the perfect blend of "coffee-strong" and smooth. Does not reflect bitterness and only reflects pure fresh coffee taste I long to have in the mornings. The muffins - UGH - so good. Perfectly dense and moist - but not too moist. Not too sweet but sweet enough to leave your taste buds thanking. I was extremely satisfied in taste and fullness in the morning and couldn't have asked for a better breakfast. Prices are very understandable. It really isn't expensive and satisfies the public and cafe-goers cravings. I realize its hard finding places like this that don't overcharge for drinks and food at a great quality. But Raintree does you right. I MUST come back (or at least my coworker MUST lol). If you're looking for a place to have a little alone time or to catch up with a friend, this is the place to go! If you're planning to study or stay long-term, I wouldn't advise you come here, as there are no outlets! There may or may not be a restroom ... I was contemplating between giving this place 4 or 5 stars. I settled on 5 because it was perfectly what I wanted today -- a place to get caffeinated and unwind. What pushed me to give this place 5 stars was the attention to detail and level of care, which I find sadly rare at other places. [FOOD + DRINK] I sat-in and ordered an iced almond milk hazelnut latte. I was wary it would be too sweet but it was honestly perfect. The almond milk is made in house! Homemade! And you can read taste the difference. I tend to like soy milk because almond milk sometimes separates and/or is too sweet -- but I'm so glad I opted for the alternative dairy here. The owner recommended I pair my drink with a banana walnut muffin -- he was right on the complimentary flavors. [ATMOSPHERE] Raintree is both sophisticate and casual. Not stuffy or pretentious but pretty fancy in terms of the service and aura. [SERVICE] The owner shared that he and his business partner have been at it for a whole 50 years and just recently perfected the art of cafe-stry upon retirement. Get their muffins, for real. We had the cranberry (and other stuff) muffin and it was delicious. It was practically a pound cake - dense, buttery, fruity with a crackly muffin top that almost tasted like brulee. The coffee was also yum. They take their organic and clean approach to food very seriously; my dude asked about sugar free syrup for his coffee and the proprietor said they didn't have any - the only organic syrup he wanted to buy was actually sourced from a Chinese company, and he couldn't verify the actual contents. So he'd rather not stock any than offer something that might not be completely clean and organic. I appreciate and support that kind of ethics. But let's go back to the muffins tho. This was a mere 5 min away from home. It's on Pensacola st. & I went in on a dreary Sunday morning (street parking which was free). It was my first time here, not busy when I arrived. They check for vaccine cards if you want to dine in. I did, & it was a splendid experience. The owners ( I assume they were) manning the register & waiting on me, served w/ a smile. I ordered a cappuccino & granola with yogurt. It was all yummy & I read that they make their granola from scratch, as well as their almond milk. It was a lovely little cafe to to dine in. The Antipasto Salad at The Raintree Bakery Coffeehouse fit my requirements perfectly. Great food and great service. This place has been on my radar for a while and I finally got to try it. Very quaint coffeehouse that we just happened to come across getting around Honolulu...very sweet older staff took our order promptly. Had a custom Hazelnut/macadamia nut latte which was very good. I can't believe I've been going to Kaiser for years and literally never stopped into this cute coffee shop right across the street! Finally went in with my two kids age 8. They ordered Italian cream sodas, one with caramel flavor and the other mango, tons of whipped cream on top. They were thrilled and begged to come back again soon! I had the matcha latte. WHAT A TREAT! The guy working there actually made the FRESH housemade almond milk right in front of me. He explained how he special orders the raw, organic, untreated almonds from Italy, then pasteurizes them himself because if you buy almonds in the US they are already pasteurized and treated with horrible pesticides and chemicals that are bad for you and the bees. That almond milk was SO delicious! I'll be back just for that. Service was a bit slow as they're clearly understaffed, but super kind and attentive and warm. The kid and I stopped in for lunch after shopping at Goodwill and Daiso. Our first choices were Auntie Pasto's and Vons Chicken because they are more obvious "lunch" eateries but neither was open. We weren't sure what to expect, maybe coffee and pastries, but beggars can't be choosers (it was close to 3 at that point). My first impression is I thought it's a healthy and possibly vegan bakery/cafe. There were a couple of diners when we went in. We were greeted by a very friendly gentleman behind the counter; we came to find out that he's one of the two co-proprietors and that this cafe is their retirement activity. The cafe decor is simple, cheerful, quirky; the seating arrangements are for small groups, not for so much for working. Service is excellent. Both gentlemen were gracious and patient with us (esp to the kiddo) and did not rush us at all (we didn't know what to order). We finally decided on a pastrami and cheese sandwich and an echt cream to share. Food quality is excellent. We requested for the sandwich to be toasted, and the kiddo and I agree that the crispness of the bread probably made the sandwich. We picked asiago based on Elliot's recommendation and it was delicious. The sandwich also came with a salad. But what blew me away was that our sandwich was halved and plated individually for us. I was expecting to share the plate like most places would have done. The echt cream is DELICIOUS! He had described it as a root beer float without the ice cream being in the way and indeed it was! We picked the raspberry (his favorite) and it was soooo good! At first I thought the prices seem a bit high-- $15 for a sandwich and salad combo, $5 for a 16oz drink. However I think they use organic whenever as much as possible (including the pepper on the table!) and Elliot makes the drink flavors and whipped cream himself, if I heard him right. The other proprietor is Jerry, and he's the baker. He showed us his own custom Hawaiiana cookie molds that he shaped himself! After hiking Moana Falls, hubby and I needed some coffee. Saw this spot on Yelp and was rated well and I wanted to see why. We were greeted by a friendly gentleman and he talked to us about how they make their own unsweetened organic almond milk (which is not the norm at coffee spots!). Ordered 2 iced lattes with almond milk (extra charge for that) and a lilikoi bar. Almond milk was nice and creamy in the latte and the coffee itself was strong. Lilikoi bar was pretty tasty. I would recommend coming here to support this local business! read more

Definitely a hidden gem. Elliot & Jerry have a wonderful little coffee house here on Pensacola St. They focus on quality offerings and organic ingredients where ever possible. My go to is their iced latte with cardimom syrup. Don't know anyone else offering that. It's SOOO good. Coffee is super smooth too. They also have a ton of flavorings depending whatever you're in the mood for. Elliot's coffee is legit. You'd think he's got a PHD in baristaology if there was ever such a thing. He's also good fun to talk story with too. Jerry is the master baker. His muffins and cheesecake muffins are to die for. You can tell they use simple yet quality ingredients. My favorite is their blueberry muffins which has a nice crust on the outside, yet remains moist on the inside, and has a ton of blueberries. Cheesecake muffins are amazing if wanting something more decadent. My favorites are the lilikoi and chocolate. Last but not least, they have gingerbread men YEAR ROUND!!! Sometimes they'll mix it up so for valentines, they had gingerbread hearts. No matter the shape, their gingerbread is awesome. They also have some breakfast, sandwich offerings which I have yet to try. If you want to loosen up, they also offer a nice selection of beer, wine, and spirits. Their little shop is very charming and relaxing. You could hangout here all day. A must to check out, whenever you're in town. read more

This is a nice quick breakfast spot. The waiter was really helpful to walk us through all the drink options. There are so many flavors to choose from to teas to lattes. The food is simple and delicious. We got the eggs with a parma/Tuscan Turkey. The meal came with a delicious muffin. The eggs were scrambled to a velvety perfection. The muffin had the perfect exterior crisp and was not overly sweet. You can taste the eggs and butter used to make the muffin. The only downside is the menu is limited. However, this was a great quick breakfast spot. Highly recommend to stop by to grab a quick bite! read more

Came here while waiting for my mom and then got lunch. The two guys that own the place were working and were so insanely nice and friendly. My mom and I split a Proscuitto and Cheese Panini ($16 + $1 to toast as a panini) with Mac Nut Pesto (+$1). They were so nice to split our sandwich and side salad into two places since we were sharing. The panini had a good amount of Proscuitto and the pesto was really good, though I don't think I would pay ~$18 for it again. We also got the Peach Egg Cream ($5) (which the owner told me it was actually Echt Cream, but so many people pronounce it Egg). I had never tried it before and it was so refreshing and definitely a nice sugary treat. We also HAD to get the Lilikoi Cheesecake Muffin ($5.50), which was yummy and I loved the tartness of the lilikoi. Absolutely loved the service! It is a pretty simple cafe, and while the food was good, definitely on the pricier side. While I probably wouldn't get a sandwich here again, I would definitely stop by for another cheesecake, or to try the lilikoi bar! read more

When I first went to Raintree with my wife I was honestly caught off guard by the amount of hospitality and intentionality of the managers. They really go the extra mile to make sure you feel valued as a customer. All their items are reasonably priced, good quality, great taste!
