Had this food truck stop by our apartment complex. I was a bit overwhelmed by the menu which included many southern classics like po boys, chicken etc. The gentleman at the window was very helpful when it came to determining what to get. Ended up with ox tails with a side of mac n cheese and fries. I had mentioned that I was bringing this back to my bf and so they were gracious enough to make it a "healthy" helping. Were not kidding! Massive amount of food, fed both of us easily! Ox tails were delicious! Fall off the bone, slathered in juicy goodness! Highly recommend. Mac n cheese was amazing, I swear there must have been a pound of butter poured in there. Definitely stick to your bones good! The fries were well seasoned and crispy. Just the way I like. When driving down the boulevard I saw the truck, newly located there. It said Authentic Soul food! I immediately yelp the truck and saw the ratings and reviews and of course had to go check it out and review it! Pros first* The butter pecan cake was nice moist and frosting good! Oxtails are tasty and the price was $26ish (fair) but they are smaller than the usual size. The Mac and cheese is good. The rice is average, my friend got rice and gravy but doesn't eat beef and it was beef gravy, she didn't prefer green beans either. Sweet potatoes weren't saucy like I prefer but they were cool. The fried chicken, fish and shrimp were hot and good. It came with a roll and a piece of cornbread with a meal. I ordered about a week in advance and pick up went smoothly (I picked up the day before Thanksgiving). It was fresh out of the oven and still hot, so I enjoyed a taste and it was even better than I remembered! I saw alot of rave about the meatloaf they make on their Instagram, unfortunately I got a day they didn't serve it. First off, Rainy's already gets a thumbs up from me for great communication and service. One thing I really hate is just trying to get some soul food and having to deal with horrible customer service. The owner Rainette was prompt, friendly and responsive. Ok now let's talk about the food - it was simply delicious! I ordered mac and cheese, baked chicken, candied yams, cornbread and cornbread dressing, and everything was fresh and delicious! We've been searching for years and magically, Rainy's popped up in 2024. We called on a whim because she posted a deadline for holiday orders, Rainy herself graciously took our order. The way that this food was prepared and ready to go into the oven without us breaking a sweat was AMAZING!!! She is big on the integrity of her food. The flavors were a game changer. I have seen the food truck twice within two weeks. I looked at the menu and was impressed immediately wanted to try. I tried Mac and cheese and green beans and they were both full of flavor!! The Mac and cheese has a rich smokey Gouda cheese taste that's creamy. The green beans had a tomato base with a light vinegary taste and it was sooo good. As a self described food truck foodie I was excited to see that Rainy's would be at a local holiday event in Grand Terrace as I have heard great things about their offerings. I was not disappointed! Super nice crew and the food was incredible! I was helping with the event so did not have a lot of time and elected to grab something quick so I could get back to my post, I ordered a cheeseburger with onion rings and as simple as it may seem I was pleasantly blown away by the flavor of the burger! Seasoned amazingly and enjoyed each savory bite! The biggest surprise was the incredible onion rings, I mean who gets shocked by onion rings right? But... these onion rings are simply the best I have ever tasted, anywhere! So light and crispy they could be a highlight themselves! My family and I had the pleasure of dining with the Rainy's food truck this evening for dinner. The food was delicious. I had the meatloaf dinner, Mac and cheese, greens, and a side of yams. I hosted a small gathering, due to Covid, which was just my family and 2 close friends. Due to short staffing from the holidays, i was working overtime & I needed help for thanksgiving. I ordered a home cooked thanksgiving from Rainy's. She made Mac and cheese, sweet potato casserole, dressing and a small turkey. It was so delicious, I wish I had taken a picture of the bird before, but all I can show is how everyone tore apart the turkey leaving almost nothing. I had never had carrots and celery in the cavity before, but it gave the meat such a wonderful aromatic taste.. The carrots were so nice and flavored with the turkey juices gave it such an incredible flavor that I wanted more (I don't even like carrots). The Mac and cheese was a big hit, and I liked the sweet potatoes casserole best (she put pecans on it, it was so sweet, like having a sweet potato pie, I hadn't had that in YEARS! I missed that so much!) and the dressing was simple and exactly how I would have made it. The food was home cooked, it was fresh, and all I had to do was heat it up slowly in my oven on the day of. She made it so easy for me, I was able to sleep in, hang out with my guests instead of cooking, and the house was smelling like I cooked all morning, it smelled like thanksgiving. If you want easy, fresh, gourmet-like food, and not have to worry about cooking, you need to call Rainy. her prices are so reasonable (Restaurants and diners charge so much more) not to mention the time saved has more value because you save that time to spend it with your family and friends. This is home-cooked real food. There's nothing like having a wonderful nutritious meal in your belly after spending quality time with family. She takes pride in her food and you will taste it.
