I hate the fact of even having to type a review when I'm a consistent customer at least almost once a week. My first experience in which you see the image below I was told that I was getting 1 lb of fried filet sole, and a half pound of fried salmon. This is what I received instead. Might I add the restaurant is ran great when the owner is present but once she leaves it's a circus show full of Junior High kids that are supposed to be adults. After asking for a manager for five minutes after receiving my food the shift leader finally comes out and refunds my money in which a whole 30 minute trip has gone to waste and I'm leaving empty handed with no food. The next morning I contact the owner (Trina) in which she says on top of the refund I want to make everything right free of charge. I tell her I'm not looking for anything free but I just wanted to apprise you of how your restaurant is being ran by younger immature young adults while you're not present. She insisted that the meal would be free of charge please come back in so she can make things right. So I went in, 2 weeks later and she made everything right which I appreciate her for. Fast forward to 6 months later I go in and order the exact same thing that I get pretty much every week which is 1 lb of fried filet sole, and a half a pound of fried salmon. They bring my food out and as I open both boxes I sample the fried filet of sole and it's as crispy as bacon. I instantly asked the cashier who made this? As she tells me who made it I asked if she can tell her to come here. As she comes out it's a coincidence that it's the same shift leader from the past bad experience. I asked her what happened and the first thing she says is oh, is it overcooked? As if she already knew. She asked me would I like her to make it over? Considering that's what the owner Trina told me last time they're to do I said yes. 10 minutes later she comes back with the new batch in which I can tell has a few pieces of the last batch that was overcooked. She asked me to come try it, and as I'm smiling to keep from being disappointed and actually showing that, she basically sarcastically tells me she needs to hurry up and close as if I'm procrastinating or taking too long. I get up and look at it and tell her it's fine not even sampling it with consideration that she has other things better to do than wait around on me. The cashier then asked me what's the problem is it undercooked sarcastically? She then says is there anything else that you need and I tell her hot sauce, tartar sauce, and if you have lemons please. She tells me they're out of lemons and the only tartar sauce they have left is the pre packets. For the record, like I told the owner when I had my last bad experience, I don't want anything free but you definitely need to look into your employees and their professionalism while running your business while you're not present. The food is great but it seems as if the wrong junior high school kids are running the company while the owner isn't present. I love the food but this will be my final and last time coming to this business. AFTER RECEIVING FISH HOOK RESPONSE: I honestly wish your restaurant well because you're going to need it with a rebuttal to every bad review that's given. You take no accountability for your employees mistakes and on the contrary try to make it as if it's the customers fault(on every review) Fish hook has the hardest time taking constructive criticism when us as the customer are the ones that have had the bad experience. I would think that you would have all of the empathy in the world for the customers that are keeping your restaurant in business because we're paying our money. As a loyal customer is not my job to respond to you on your customer service line if I've already had problems in the past just like you said it's not required that an on-site manager be there 24/7. You have a habit on every review saying that you monitored the situation from the cameras. Which means nothing when we're the customer that dealing with the situation in person. The menu is STACKED with so many options that it was difficult for me to narrow down what I wanted to try for my first time. I ended up getting a special, so I could try a little of everything I had a taste for. Overall, the food is good and was cooked/seasoned perfectly. I give this review 4/5 starts simply because my food wasn't hot when I got it home. The ride was about 8 minutes from the restaurant, and considering how long we waited for the food, I expected it to be as fresh as possible. My sister said her food was still hot when we got home. I rate my plate (2 fish, 3 shrimp, 3 oysters, red beans/rice, dinner roll--see photos) an 8/10 because it wasn't hot. My sister tried grilled red snapper with grilled veggies and white rice. She rates her plate a 7/10 because she was choking on bones in the fish, and her dish (not pictured) was a bit on the salty side. We attempted placing the order online for pickup to avoid having to wait inside the restaurant to order, but the site wouldn't allow us to order. I'm not sure if the business stopped online ordering because of how busy they were or what. If you run into the same issue, I suggest maybe calling to place the order beforehand. My sister and I waited in line for maybe 15 minutes to place the order and waited another 35ish minutes for the food to come out. Another restaurant where I apologize in advance for not taking pics. The food was so good that I immediately started to devour it once I received it. I ordered the whiting dinner with red beans and rice and Mac and cheese. They didn't have Mac and cheese (I was craving it) so I got greens instead. One comment to the owner to consider, the ordering required the staff to type everything in, rather than have easy codes, digital pics, or something to make that part of the ordering process a little faster. FOOD: Of the items that I tried, I thought the standouts were the grilled Mahi-mahi, Fried Shrimp, Fried Catfish, Mac-n-Cheese, Collard Greens, Hush Puppies, Banana Pudding, and Apple Cobbler. I grew up on the East Coast and these were some of the best Hush Puppies I've ever had! One of the better Southern seafood joints in the area. The fried red snapper? Amazing. The fried catfish? Just as amazing. The yummy (and large) tubs of red beans & rice and mac & cheese? So amazing I couldn't even stand it. But I think the real star of the entrees was that grilled mahi-mahi. That was like somebody planted heaven on my tongue directly and told me to just let it grow. That was one of the most tender, flavorful, and just seasoned right fishes I've had in a few years. I was kicking myself that I didn't order more of it. My mom will gladly drive all the way from the IE to Long Beach just for good fish, but she wasn't up for that drive today. Instead, she decided to look for a fried fish spot closer to home. We came across Fishhook at Ontario Mills and even asked someone walking in if the fish was good. The answer was a confident yes--and they were right. My mom ordered the shrimp po'boy, and I (being a little greedy) went all in with the fish, shrimp, and oysters, plus fries and hush puppies. The service was excellent. The young man working there was polite, friendly, and very accommodating. The fish in the display case looked fresh, and the place didn't have that strong seafood smell--which was a good sign. The food was hot--really hot--and everything tasted fresh and well seasoned. It wasn't salty or overpowering; it actually had flavor. Even better, once it was prepared, it didn't have that heavy "seafood" taste some places have. Overall, it was a great experience from start to finish. I would definitely recommend Fish Hook. I love their shrimp, tartar, and the spicy sauces that complimented my meal. They also gave me grilled salmon and shrimp at first, but they quickly realized and fixed what I asked for. So I ended up with more food to try and eat! Other main courses I was able to try from my friends' plates included fried catfish and Dover sole. Yummy!!! The two sides I chose were the Mac n cheese and the Yams. They really know how to prepare both of these sides as they were both unique and tasted out of this world!!! I was also able to try others' potato salad and grilled veggies, both very good! I was able to try one appetizer and that was the Fried Oyster! The best Oyster I ever had!!! I got two different stories as to why it wasn't made at all... lmao. The manager said the new order was about to get made.. i was irritated cus I didn't wanna wait another HOUR. But I called my sister and she said it's fine that she'd just pick up the newly made order so I could leave. Then as soon as they handed me my bag, the bottom literally busted and food started leaking all over my shoes. UGGS , hard to clean off. When I told them, they acted lost and didn't even try to help. No apology, no solution, nothing. I had to be the one to ASK for compensation. Ridiculous yet I was nice enough to still only take a partial refund. I get home and open up my bag and get another disappointment, two of my sides are missing. I ordered mac salad, potato salad, greens, and red beans & rice, the mac salad and potato salad weren't even in the bag. I tried calling, no answer. I had to text my sister, who was already driving over there, to tell them I need my SIDES!!!! As soon as my sister arrives around 8pm with her 6 month old!! (smh took her baby out in this cold weather), I'm on FaceTime with her and they told my sis the NEW ORDER WAS GIVEN TO A DIFF COSTUMER. The lady with glasses tried to argue back and say yes it was given to someone who said they were picking up for my sister, it was a tall skinny black man....Like are you kidding meeee??!!!? So her order was given away twice lmao must be some type of food heist going on. Now I know if I'm hungry I can come here and just take somebody else's paid to go order off the counter Lmao. All I can do is laugh lol. The lady in the front with the glasses is trying to insinuate that my sister is lying and they're trying to get over on them for free food .. 1. we did not know the person that picked up the food (here's a tip: please double check the receipts on pick up orders so they're not getting stolen!!) twice at THAT lol 2. My mother in law comes in every week with her man to buy food here and they spend 100-200$ often. 3. We do not want to steal food from small establishments! We just wanted good, at least decent service. As soon as we mentioned my mom's name, they backed up on my sister and they ended up believing her.. cus like I said My Mom comes in often and she's a well known costumer... we'd never try to steal from ppl and we always try to support black owned businesses. Lord tonight was a mess but the manager was nice and the staff was understanding I just wish things didn't play out the way it did I just can't believe this smh ****UPDATE: I did mention a PARTIAL REFUND IN THE ORIGINAL POST, while you sitting there responding not reading the whole review, trying to be smart proving a point. And SECOND, THE CAMERAS WERE NEVER REVIEWED, WE ASKED THEM SPECIFICALLY WHILE MY SISTER WAS THERE TO PULL UP THE FOOTAGE. THEY SAID THE MANAGER LEFT. GET YOUR STORY STRAIGHT BEFORE COMING FOR A PAYING COSTUMER. Oh and by the way, when she arrived at 8PM to pick up the order YALL MESSED UP, she was greeted by the girl with glasses with "We're closed". Wanted to try this place because of the reviews I've seen. Also, was looking for a place to cater my office holiday party. Long story short ordered online ($71 total) went about 30 min later to pick up the order. No one behind the counter spoke.... They weren't rude but not very friendly either. In fairness, I wasn't either. When I was finally acknowledged, I ordered 2 cakes while I was picking up the other food. I went to check the bag to make sure the order was right before I hopped on the 90 min drive home. Both lobster tail orders were missing the side (rice and veggies). I informed the woman behind the counter and she said it doesn't come with a side. I told her what the online menu said. She verified it on her phone and after some back and forth, she stated it was an AI description that described what was in the picture, not the actual menu. For context the item clearly said a lobster tail on a bed of (I think seasoned) rice with veggies (onion, bell peppers etc). She went in the back for a little over 5 min. When she came out she asked for my number so the owner could explain to me the AI description. I asked how would a customer know the description of item is AI versus what the actual menu is?! To me, it was clearly written by someone (not AI). I also explained the cost for 2 orders of lobster (1 tail each) is $1 less than the platter (2 tails that she told me does come with 2 sides) so I would pay the dollar difference, even though the menu clearly said what it said. She went in the back again and when she came out I said I don't want to argue over rice! I'll just take a refund if you're not going to give me what the menu described. Also explained I drove from Northridge to patronize them AND was looking to book them for my office holiday party (my company has well over 10,000 employees!, 200 of which are in my section). She said I wish I could just give you the side order. I told her at this point it's been 20 minutes, the food is cold, I just want my refund and we can keep it moving. Took another 5 minutes or so to refund it. I went to my car to explain to everyone what happened and pulled up the menu- it had already been changed lol. To their credit, the food smelled good and prob was good. But I guess I'll never know because if you're THAT pressed over a DOLLAR when your menu was WRONG and even after offering to pay the difference...... I'm good. read more

extremely disappointed I bought a 16pc family meal take out fish was done in 15min but they kept telling me my side they were warming them up, which was the greens and red beans rice. they said they were warming them up so I waited approximately 25 minutes. Finally they brought my food out. Got home fix my family their plate beans were extremely hard and the greens were crunchy so disappointed instead of them being honest and saying to me the food is not ready. I went earlier this week at 12-12:10pm, The front cashier (female, black, had on a headband for her wig) had attitude problem. After ordering we asked how long the food would take, she told us 15-20 min, we said ok and waited outside. We WAITED AN HOUR N HALF for our food and not one time did they give us any update, and the cashier kept staring at me while we waited for our food with a "stank" face???. I should have updated long ago but forgot. After my somewhat negative review, The manager/owner offered me a reduced price to try again and suggested that I clarify that I want the fish to be moist inside, crispy outside. I did. And it was DELICIOUS! It is still an inordinately long wait. But knowing that up front helps. I've been back a few more times to make sure it wasn't a fluke, or that the cook was being extra careful because the owner was on top of it. Prices have increased substantially over the past year, with portions getting smaller. Not sure it's worth it anymore. Edit: Combo prices have increased about 24% since 2022. Photos don't lie. I wish you luck, just too expensive for me. read more
