Side of greens with Mac and cheese

Okay sooooo I was in the Ontario area I needed to EAT. I didn't want something I can always get so I typed in Black-owned restaurants and Fishhook popped up. From the outside it didn't look busy, inside there were about 3-4 orders ahead of me plus a few people eating and waiting. Not packed, but enough to let me know I wasn't the only that didn't feel like cooking that day. I ordered the Cajun fried catfish with mac & cheese, greens, and paid an extra fee for hush puppies. I would come back now that I gotta gist of how everything works, grab the drinks find a table and wait until your number/name is called.

    Proof

Save your money and your time. We paid $70+ for our food and waited 1 hour and 9 minutes for our order. To make matters worse, it was sooooo hot inside that I literally sweated my hair out. 5-6 tables and over an hour wait time-never again! After waiting over an hour, I asked them to cancel my order because the wait was completely ridiculous. One girl working the front was new, so I understand she was learning, but the other employee with the light brown hair had the worst attitude. After I requested a refund, the girl came back and said the manager told her that the girl at the front should have told us it was going to be an hour wait because it was Sunday. I told her, "She didn't tell us that when we ordered." She responded, "I know she didn't." So I'm confused... if you knew we weren't told there was going to be an hour wait, why wasn't the situation handled differently? The people sitting next to us told us they were also told it would be a 30-minute wait, and even their food was taking longer than that. Because of the excessive wait, they called the manager. The manager said she could give me half of my money back. I explained that at that point, I didn't want the food at all. We had already waited over an hour, and I was completely over it. She continued to say they would refund half and that if I didn't want the food, I could leave it there and they would give it away. I asked to speak directly with the manager, but instead, they referred me to the phone number on a poster. An hour and 9 minutes. $70+. No communication about the actual wait time. Poor customer service. And then I'm offered half a refund for food I no longer wanted. Save yourself the frustration. I would not recommend coming here. As far as the response from owner: I asked for a full refund without the food and was told the best is I would get half my refund, NO I was NOT given the option for a full refund without food. I did not want the food anymore due to poor customer service and gruesome heat in the restaurant. I was also told if i didn't take the food and half refund , you guys would give the food to someone else. SMH I am telling my friends, family, and social media the way I was handled here. The other patrons in the restaurant were shaking their head at the cashier as well and added their two cents. It was terrible.

I ordered the catfish nuggets with sanddab dinner combo. The fish was overcooked. I ate the nuggets anyway but the sanddab was inedible. The fish was so thin it was like eating cornmeal covered potato chips! You could not taste any fish. I had somewhere to be or I would've taken them back. The fries were cooked just right and were very good. The hush puppies were just ok. The service was good. The woman at the counter was very polite and professional. My food was ready in about 25mins. There is a comfortable waiting area and good music. I may go back but I'll be sure to mention how terrible my fish was this trip and ask that it not be fried so hard.

The food is pretty good~ not gonna lie! We ordered the catfish filet and it's only 14.99. But the long hair lady with glasses doesn't understand what customer service is. We waited for a long while before we asked if she can take our order. She said something unprofessional. People who are still reading, use their app for ordering. It will save you time and save you from being disrespected. Oh and you earn points as well.

https://order.online/store/fishhook-seafood-1310981?utm_source=ddooqrcodes Order here ahead of time (40 mins) if you can! They take awhile because they are so popular but I cannot believe how tasty this is! The server was super nice. She let me sample the red beans and greens collard greens. They were both so tasty! All the sides are so tasty! It was $11 for daily specials no time restraint or regular size dinner price at ~$15. Batter in the saltier end but you can ask for low salt batter! I would definitely come back. I loved it. Even my fiance who rarely eats fish loved it!

The food is amazing. We had deep fried oysters, sole, shrimp, and catfish. Loved that you can pick the fish you want. The food takes time, but it came out fresh. The fish was crunchy and they can even adjust the sodium level on it. We also had the greens, mac n cheese, and hush puppies. Everything was delicious.

It's been a while since I've been back here. Had a friend to come join me for some lunch. Their seafood is top notch! We ordered off their daily specials menu. My friend got the fish n chips and I got me a 2 pc fish with shrimp and a side item which was their mac salad. I'm a catfish guy so got me catfish but there is a wide selection to choose from. Top it off with some dessert, homemade German chocolate cake. Omg! Totally hit the spot! Come support Fishhook Seafood, we love it here! Support a local small business! Get hooked at Fishhook! Friendly service here. Food may take time but it's made fresh to order.

Trash. Fish fried tooooo hard. Can't even eat it. Can't call them or leave a message. I will be returning this mess.

    2pc Cajun catfish

First time visiting this restaurant due to watching a segment on Fox11. However, it was also my last. I walked right in and placed my order and was told it would be 20 minutes. I didn't mind the wait because I know fish on Friday it would be busy. There were a lot of orders and people waiting. Just knowing my catfish was being fried fresh made me not mind the wait even more. I placed my order at 7:37 pm and received my order at around 8:27pm. I ordered 2pc Cajun catfish 4pc shrimp coleslaw dinner roll, 20pc jumbo shrimp 3 hush puppies red beans & rice and collard greens. When I opened the box with the catfish it was 1pc and a nugget. Not even a fillet, more like a catfish tender. The coleslaw had no flavor. Red beans & rice dry. Greens tasted like they were from a can. Hush puppies were the best part of the meal but dry. I threw everything away! Shrimp was rubbery and dry. I had high hopes for this place. Everyone's tastes are different and I hope people that enjoy the food continue to support this business.

I was iffy on trying do to a lot of mixed reviews but decided to take the risk anyway Wasn't extremely packed for a Thursday afternoon but business seemed consistent I got the Cajun catfish fried hard with shrimp I'll say the fish and shrimp very good cooked and seasoned well the fries basic and Id say the hush puppies are a fair 6.5-7ish not anything to crazy on the sides but I will be back for the fish the only Drawback of this place I can see is the prepackaged tartar sauce was extremely underwhelming and disappointing other than that I'd give fish hook a solid 7.5/10

I went to try this place after seeing an Instagram video about it. I haven't found a really good fried fish spot in the IE, but I give this place my stamp of approval. I tried this after shopping with my sister, so my stomach was touching my back since, of course, we spent more time in Ontario Mills than we planned to. The menu is STACKED with so many options that it was difficult for me to narrow down what I wanted to try for my first time. I ended up getting a special, so I could try a little of everything I had a taste for. Overall, the food is good and was cooked/seasoned perfectly. I give this review 4/5 starts simply because my food wasn't hot when I got it home. The ride was about 8 minutes from the restaurant, and considering how long we waited for the food, I expected it to be as fresh as possible. My sister said her food was still hot when we got home. I rate my plate (2 fish, 3 shrimp, 3 oysters, red beans/rice, dinner roll--see photos) an 8/10 because it wasn't hot. My sister tried grilled red snapper with grilled veggies and white rice. She rates her plate a 7/10 because she was choking on bones in the fish, and her dish (not pictured) was a bit on the salty side. We attempted placing the order online for pickup to avoid having to wait inside the restaurant to order, but the site wouldn't allow us to order. I'm not sure if the business stopped online ordering because of how busy they were or what. If you run into the same issue, I suggest maybe calling to place the order beforehand. My sister and I waited in line for maybe 15 minutes to place the order and waited another 35ish minutes for the food to come out. We were well aware that the food would take that long because the cashier let us know before we placed the order. Communication and customer service is A1. I'd definitely go back to try other things on the menu. Pricing is reasonable, too. They play good music, so waiting in line wasn't too bad. The inside of the restaurant is pretty small, but there is seating outside if it gets too crammed/noisy inside the restaurant. If you're looking for a good fish spot to try, this is a good place to check out.

Now as an employee would you eat this?

AMBIANCE 5.5/10…read more After spending way too long trying to decide what to eat, we finally settled on seafood boil and landed on The Big Catch because of their all-you-can-eat option. Walking in, our first impression wasn't great the building looked a little run down. Once inside, though, the vibe improved. It had a rustic sports bar feel with TVs everywhere, an open bar, and a seafood station. Nothing fancy, but not terrible. EXPERIENCE 7/10 The service was one of the better parts of the visit. Our waiter was friendly, attentive, and took the time to answer our questions and recommend a few items. The food took a little while to come out. BTW there's a 90 minute limit after we were seated and the second round of our seafood took 30 minutes to come out (they apparently forgot our order) and they proceeded to tell us we had last call right after our second round of food barely got to the table. Not sure if that's done on purpose but we really didn't really appreciate that. Overall though, the staff definitely made the experience better. THE FOOD 5/10 Here's where things started to fall apart. The first all-you-can-eat platter came with two snow crab clusters, 1/2lb crawfish, 1/2lb mussels, 1/2lb peeled shrimp, plus unlimited sides. One thing that caught us off guard and maybe we just missed it on the menu is that after your first round, you can no longer order the snow crab or peeled shrimp. That was disappointing since those ended up being the best seafood options on the table. The snow crab was solid, and the peeled shrimp were surprisingly good the texture was crunchy and we didn't get any fishy smell or flavors. Everything after that... not so much. Round two included whole shrimp, clams, and scallops. The portions were noticeably smaller, and almost everything tasted like it had been frozen for too long. The crawfish lacked freshness, the whole shrimp had the same issue and were mushy without the initial crunch additionally the shrimp was hard to peel which makes us think that it was POSSIBLY reheated, and the scallops were tiny with a strong fishy flavor that made them hard to enjoy. Even the House/Cajun seasoning didn't do much to save it. It was too oily and honestly just tasted like salt, there was no spiciness either and we got the hot flavor. Ironically, the sides ended up carrying the meal. The cucumber salad was fresh and crunchy, which balanced out some of the heavier seafood, and the sweet potato fries were honestly one of our favorite things we ordered. And one last thing... somehow even the water tasted off. What We'd Order Again Snow Crab Clusters Peeled Shrimp Fish Taco Sweet Potato Fries Cucumber Salad Sausage Corn Skip These Whole Shrimp Clams Mussels Scallops Crawfish House/Cajun Seasoning Cajun Fries Cajun Wings Boiled Egg Water Final Rating If you're going for the all-you-can-eat seafood, don't expect premium quality. The first round is decent, but once the crab and peeled shrimp are off the table, the meal drops off pretty quickly. Would we come back? Definitely not. We ended up paying 90$ for 2 people which you can argue is good since it's an AYCE seafood meal but afterwards after speaking to the waiter we found out the shrimp and crawfish was indeed frozen that along with all the other disappointing food doesn't make us feel like it was worth the money. Overall Gassington Rating: (5/10)

The poor experience began at the host stand. I had a reservation for 1:15 PM but arrived early and was sat at 12:56 PM. Despite my active reservation, when the host led me to the table, she asked if the reservation was under "M." When I got to the table and asked who "M" was, she dismissively replied that they "just put down an alphabet." I told her my name was Will, but she didn't care to acknowledge it or correct her mistake. This cold shoulder continued throughout the meal. When asked about drinks, I said "water for now," and every time I said "thank you" to our server, I was met with complete silence and zero acknowledgment. Once my guest--who is white--joined me at the table, the dynamic shifted entirely. He received 95% of the server's warmth, eye contact, and attention. The only time the server actively engaged with me was to take my physical food order. Even the food had issues--our first crab cake was served overcooked. Because my guest was the one who pointed it out, the manager came over and addressed him to replace it. While the manager's interaction was a bit better, the server's dismissive attitude toward me never improved for the rest of the meal. To top it off, I was the one who paid the bill. When the server returned my credit card, instead of handing it back to me, she chose to place the presenter book directly in the middle of the table. As a business owner, I understand how critical customer service is. The selective attentiveness and dismissive attitude I experienced today felt incredibly biased and completely ruined our lunch. I will not be returning to this location.

The appetizers and side dishes were good, and we enjoyed the fries, noodles, and calamari. The only disappointment was the special sauce that comes with the crawfish and shrimp boil. The flavor wasn't what we expected and tasted more like a tomato-based sauce. Compared to places like The Boiling Crab or Kicking Crab, it lacked the buttery, garlicky, and savory flavor we were looking for. The food itself was fresh, and the service was fine, but we would probably choose The Boiling Crab or Kicking Crab next time.

A flavor memory brought back to life…read more Our family traveled to Puerto Vallarta about 3-4 years ago, and one of the things we love most about traveling is getting off the beaten path and exploring places that feel a little more authentic and local. On that trip, we ventured deep into inland/semi-coastal Jalisco and ended up at a little eatery called Ok Corral Restaurant & Bar in Cabo Corrientes. The food was incredible, but one dish in particular stole my daughter's heart: pescado zarandeado, specifically red snapper. She loved it so much that she basically stole my food. Since that trip, my daughter and I have had a little mission of our own: find that fish again and find the version that brings back that exact flavor memory. Then we found Las Nuevas Islas in Fontana. From the moment we walked in, the experience was fantastic. The staff was incredibly welcoming and attentive, but what really stood out was how much they cared about getting my daughter's meal right. We let our 9-year-old explain to our waiter what she remembered about the fish from Mexico. She asked if they had red snapper. He initially told us they were using tilapia, but mentioned that they had just received a shipment of fresh fish and was almost certain there was some red snapper in it. He went back to check. Sure enough, they had it. But he didn't stop there. He asked to see the picture we had from Mexico so he could see how the fish was seasoned and cooked. He took that information straight back to the chef and asked if they could prepare it the way my daughter remembered it. And my goodness, they absolutely nailed it. The fish was cooked perfectly, beautifully seasoned, and had that charred, savory flavor we had been trying to find for years. Watching my daughter take that first bite and seeing the smile on her face was worth the trip alone. Our waiter jokingly asked her, "How is it? Do you like it?" She looked at him and said, "I'm sorry, no, I don't like it... I LOVE IT!" Seeing the smile on his face after hearing that, and seeing my daughter relive a flavor memory from a family trip years ago, was one of those little moments that makes a restaurant experience much more than just dinner. We also had the fish ceviche tostada, which was incredibly fresh, bright and refreshing, and my wife had the fried fish tacos, which were perfectly battered and delicious. And that green serrano salsa deserves its own mention. It is seriously spicy, but absolutely delicious. The restaurant itself is huge, with a great open feel, a beautiful and simple bar, a stage for live music, and an overall atmosphere that feels incredibly welcoming. But what we'll remember most is the people. The waiter could have simply said, "We don't have red snapper." Instead, he went looking. Then he went back again. Then he talked to the chef. They listened to a 9-year-old describe a fish she remembered eating in Mexico years ago and did everything they could to recreate it for her. That's hospitality. Las Nuevas Islas didn't just serve us a great meal. They helped our daughter bring a little piece of a family memory back to life. If you're looking for Nayarit-style mariscos, pescado zarandeado, fresh seafood, great service and a genuinely welcoming atmosphere, I can't recommend Las Nuevas Islas enough. We came looking for a fish we remembered from Mexico. We left with a new favorite local restaurant.

Came here early and had a great dinner with my family. The restaurant was easy to locate and very…read moreclean. The servers were polite and accommodating, and the live music created a really nice vibe. The only downside was the wait time for our food, but it was understandable since they were short-staffed. Overall, the food was very good. I had the shrimp cocktail, which was prepared really well, and they were definitely generous with the shrimp. I'd love to come back and try other items on the menu!

Boiling Point Hot Pot is easily one of the best lunch spots in town, offering an incredible…read moreall-you-can-eat experience for a full two hours at a great price. The dining process is super convenient and straightforward: you select your favorite soup base from options like Tonkotsu or Spicy Miso on your order sheet, choose your starting cuts of meat, and then head over to the self-serve area to round out your meal. The quality of the food across the board is top-notch--the meats arrive fresh and finely sliced, and you can reorder as much as you want at no additional charge. What truly sets this place apart, beyond the delicious food and attentive service, is the comfortable dining environment. Unlike many other hot pot restaurants where the heat leaves you sweating through your meal, the AC here is powerful and keeps the room perfectly cool. You can fully enjoy cooking your hot pot with unlimited trips to the self-serve bar for fresh veggies, sauces, seafood, noodles, and dessert without feeling uncomfortably warm. It is an all-around fantastic spot for a relaxed, delicious, and satisfying lunch.

We stuck to the beef and the pork belly which was very good, the beef not so much though. The buffet bar had plenty of options and sauces so that was a plus but unfortunately the lack of service really made this experience a two-start rating. We were greeted (dryly), seated, and left to figure out the confusing ordering sheet. Thankfully we have experience with HotPot and (sort of) figured it out and even after we expressed concern about how we were suppose to order/write down our meat selections per round (which they claim is unlimited but they only have 3 columns on the sheet) our questions remained unanswered. Trying to flag a waiter down to order more meat was a pain as hardly any were available and we were missing appetizers on our "second" but with the way the service was we figured there wasn't any point in bringing it up not to mention the lack of (flat) soda refills. I doubt we will be returning.
