Food was so delicious ! I was shocked because I'm usually very picky when it comes to soul food but the chicken was crispy and seasoned perfectly. I love that they use elbow noodles for the Mac and cheese. Had great favor. Red beans and rice was so bomb and we loved everything else we ordered. The location was playing oldies when we arrived to pick up our food, made us want to stay and enjoy the vibes. Only thing I'd say to improve on is the cashier. She was rude. The "Not Your Mamas Kitchen" food truck came to my office today, and it's definitely not MY Mama's kitchen, I can say that much. For $13 I got fried chicken and waffles. Note that the chicken is just wings and drumsticks (no breast or thigh) which wasn't what I was expecting, but worked out just fine. They have a couple of different options for sauces - "lemon pepper" or "hot honey" - and I went for the hot honey and kind of wish that I had done it dry. Not that the hot sauce wasn't good, but the fried chicken itself was so good that it didn't really need an extra sauce and I found the sauce to be distracting. The waffles were definitely too fried and greasy for me, crispy and not fluffy at all, so next time I'd probably opt for a side instead. But, all in all, definitely a fan! read more

I've visited this truck a few times when they are in DTLA. I've ordered the fish & chicken wings. The fish uses more of a corn meal coating than a batter. It was seasoned well and tasted good. I've also ordered the chicken wings, but I made the mistake of getting it sauced up with a honey hot sauce. I was not a big fan of this. The honey with Rooster hot sauce does not go well together IMO. It was a little too tangy for me. It would have been better with tabasco. The chicken was crispy and tasted like it was cooked in lard. Next time, I'll just get them plain or maybe lemon pepper. Their rice & gravy is a little bland, so keep some salt close by. The yams was good and not too sweet. Just keep in mind that they fry everything to order, so it could be a long wait when busy. I wished they had an app where I could order before hand to do a pickup. read more

I do my best to support Black-owned businesses and this food truck (as the restaurant is closed) was no exception. Initially I called to find out when/if the restaurant would be opened and I was told it wouldn't. I then asked where the food truck would be, this was Sunday (10-13), and was told on Manchester and Western at 1 p.m. I got there around 1:45 p.m. and looked around, no truck (of theirs) was in sight. I went to another food truck vendor and inquired if they had seen them (as I know they ALL know-of each other) and was told no, but they're usually on the other side of the parking lot. As I drove around, I saw the food truck making its way through the parking lot to park on the street. I pulled in behind them and sat for a bit, to give them time to set-up. 2:15 p.m. rolled around and they still weren't ready. I asked how long before they open and he said "5 minutes". I knew that was a falsity, so I drove off, did a few things and returned. When I came back the man was still writing the menu on the board and setting up. He wasn't polite and seemed bothered by my presence, not to mention the truck looked filthy and unkept. I no longer wanted to order food from them, but because I had driven from so far and waited for so long, I ordered the peach cobbler. After it was dished into a container, the man just wrapped a fork in a napkin and handed everything to me through the pick-up window. I had to ask for a bag. To my amazement the cobbler was great! However, because of the poor customer service and lack of appreciation for my patronage, I will not purchase from them again. I hate to write unfavorable reviews about Black businesses, but I hold them to the same standards I hold everyone else to. Far too many times the customer service is horrible, the merchandise is overpriced and very little is given. I will save my money and bake my cobblers, next time read more

I've been seeing this truck around LA and have been curious because it has a catchy name. Reminds me of the Slap ya Mama seasoning lol Any hoot, we were shooting a tv show on Melrose Ave & Bonita Ave and praise the soul food gawds, their truck was parked right across the street. I decided to skip my free lunch at catering, provided by the studio to go try them out/support. The smiling crew of two gave me a chance to review their printed pics of the some of the menu items and their hand written gel menu. Chicken, po boy, Turkey, fish and hamburger were the protein options for the day but I know they offer more cuz of there IG posts. I went with there tangy wings and hot honey with Mac and cheese & Yams. Now that's not really a meal you should eat when you have to go back to worth afterwards. Itis in full effect! The tangy wings which looked like a fish fry and lemon pepper mixture was good, definitely a new taste to my buds. The hot tangy was my favorite tho. Great, great food. Not your mama's was at our favorite brewery in signal hill, Ten Mile. We had the shrimp po-boy, collard greens, yams and Mac-n-Cheese. The shrimp po-boy was huge! Shrimp was fried to a perfect crisp, Mac-n-cheese was extreamly cheesy & the BF loved the yams, just the right amount of Sweet. If you see this truck give it a shot.
