I have very little experience with Indian food other than some curry dishes and I know there is so much more! My friend does have experience but the owner came over to us as we were reviewing the menu and offered to suggest some things based on what we like. We told him a chicken dish and a vegetable dish. We definitely also wanted some naan bread also. While we were waiting he brought out some super thin wavers with dips. Very tasty (not sure what the name of this is). Also brought us some hot chai. The chai was the best I've ever had!! Creamy with just the right amount of spices. The appetizer he picked was Gobhi Manchurian which was cauliflower chunks that I believe were fried with this amazing sauce and the presentation was beautiful. For our main courses it was Malai Kofta and Malai Kebab. Both were outstanding and the sauces were to die for. We had Tandoori Naan that we dipped in the sauces and made little chicken bites with. This was served with rice also. Every bite was an explosion of flavor that I've never experienced before. The owner was so attentive with filling our water glasses and asking how we liked everything. We were stuffed with leftovers and couldn't eat desert but next thing we know he brought us out rice pudding which was on the house. We tried it and again that was delicious. This was such a great experience I cannot wait to go back. The owner also walked us out to the door and thanked us for coming in. This is customer service that anyone and especially me really appreciated. Everyone go and try this restaurant! Even if you don't know what to order he will help you to choose according to what you like.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at an outstanding Indian restaurant, and the experience exceeded every expectation. [[HIGHLIGHT]]From the moment I walked in, the warm ambiance and inviting décor set the tone for what turned out to be a truly memorable meal.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The menu offered a wide variety of authentic dishes, each prepared with remarkable attention to detail. We started with crispy papadums that were perfectly spiced and paired with flavorful mint and tamarind chutneys. We were also presented with Gobi Manchurian featuring deep-fried, battered cauliflower (gobi) tossed in a spicy, tangy, and slightly sweet soy-garlic sauce. For the main courses, the butter Chilean sea bass was served in a rich, creamy, and beautifully balanced sauce, while the garlic naan came out fresh, soft, and slightly charred--just the way it should be. The lamb kabab was nothing short of outstanding--perfectly tender, juicy, and infused with a smoky, well-balanced mix of spices. Each bite was rich and flavorful without being overpowering. Finally, the lamb shank masala was the true star of the evening. The meat was incredibly soft, falling off the bone effortlessly, and the masala sauce was deeply aromatic, layered with spices that created a bold yet harmonious flavor profile. It paired beautifully with fresh naan and fragrant basmati rice. We were too stuffed at this point to order anything else, so this evil (said with tongue firmly in cheek) lady in charge simply provided us with a dish of kheer to share, and it was the perfect ending to the meal. Creamy, lightly sweet, and delicately infused with cardamom, it offered a refreshing contrast to the richness of the main dishes. What truly set this restaurant apart was the quality of the ingredients and the depth of flavor in every dish. It was clear that everything was made fresh, with spices blended in-house to create that signature, authentic taste. The service was equally impressive--attentive without being intrusive, and the staff was more than happy to offer recommendations and explain dishes. It made the entire experience feel welcoming and personal. The owners were friendly and eager to answer questions and make sure that everyone felt welcome. Whether you're new to Indian cuisine or a longtime fan, this restaurant is a must-visit. It delivers not only on taste but also on atmosphere and hospitality. I'll definitely be returning soon whenever we're in the area!

Tastefully decorated, Raj Saffron House offers a quiet spot to enjoy a bounty of Indian dishes while enjoying stellar service. We started out with Gobhi Manchurian (cauliflower) for our appetizer. Beautiful presentation! Entrees included Chicken Korma and Chana Masala, accompanied by a large bowl of rice. Again, beautiful presentation of each dish including edible flowers! We had dessert - kheer (rice pudding) and gulab jamun. Both desserts were delicious, and the plates were embellished with mango and berry sauces. We had plenty to eat, and still had plenty to take home for the next day. Can't wait to return and try more dishes. Their seafood options looked amazing!

I enjoyed my dining experience but the quantity was reduced. I ordered Schezwan shrimp and there were just 4 pieces of shrimp in there and a flower. Looking at it I was like Ok, good presentation but it doesn't justify the price. Then we had the Lamb Biryani and preferred it to be spicy. It was mildly spicy and the lamb as fresh. Quantity was good enough for two. I have a mixed opinion about this place because of the quantity served. The lighting could seem dull at some tables. I don't know if it's intentionally set that way for dates but it is better to have good lighting in my opinion.

It was so long due that she and I couldn't tell when we had last seen each other besides FaceTime. She got to pick Indian and my hubby found this place on Yelp. If I could give TEN stars, I would. The staff brought us whole papadums as the gratis and we perused the lengthy menu, finally deciding on lamb kebabs, lamb shank, an eggplant masala, and Chilean Sea Bass. I hear you lecturing me about how that fish is not sustainable but I love it and I do not eat it hardly ever. We also got a refill of the papadums and a garlic naan. We were served Gobi Manchurian which is cauliflower with a red sauce gratis along with Raiti which is a cooked yogurt with raisins, strawberry, and a veritable treasure chest of different fruits. So fun to eat! Wish we lived closer but since we are not, I know my waist struggle is not in danger zone! Just nearly in danger. [[HIGHLIGHT]]This restaurant became packed full of happy customers while we were dining on Monday.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Raj Saffron House is 10/10 amazing! I don't leave reviews typically, but I've had multiple wonderful experiences here and want to show my support. I dined in by myself recently and everybody was SO kind. I was checked up on by I believe the owner and got to tell him how delicious the food was. At the end of the meal I was given a free rice pudding. It was my first time having rice pudding, it was great! I was very happy with the meal and we've ordered delivery a few times since, food is great every. single. time. Last night I ordered a large meal for pickup. I arrived a bit early in the bitter cold and while sitting down to wait I was immediately offered a free chai tea. Piping hot and absolutely amazing. I thanked them and was told it was no problem, they like to show gratitude to their customers. They've earned a customer for life, I'll never get Indian cuisine from anywhere else than Raj Saffron House! Thank you all for your kindness, it's a rare sight to see such genuine care. We will be back :)

First off, we were blown away by the quality of the service. It was my boyfriend's first time trying Indian cuisine, and the gentleman that was serving us made excellent suggestions. We started with the Gohbi Manchurian, which is a cauliflower appetizer in a sweet and tangy sauce. I've never had this dish before and it was an instant favorite. We ate it so fast I forgot to take a picture! Our server (who I think may have been the owner or manager), ordered for my boyfriend. He brought out the Lamb Shank Masala, which was incredible. The meat fell right off the bone and the sauce was so flavorful, yet not overwhelming. I ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala, which was delicious of course, but I definitely recommend broadening your horizons and letting the staff choose your meal. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The chai tea was so refreshing, and the space is clean and welcoming.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Highly recommend this spot.

Yes, Yelpers believe the hype. This is one of the best Indian restaurants around and has the best hospitality I have ever experienced. My husband and I arrived on a Tuesday for lunch and the restaurant was quiet, but we were served like a king and queen. As soon as we were seated, we were greeted and received Papadom with two sauces. The menu was extensive and it was hard to choose because everything looked so good. Our wonderful host brought us over two delicious cups of hot chai sprinkled with cinnamon. Probably the best chai I've ever had. We ordered Mulligatawny soup, mild but complex in flavor and served very hot. I decided on shrimp tiki masala, although the halibut looked really good too. You can decide on the amount of heat that you like and I ordered mild, which was delicious. I also ordered paneer cheese naan. The naan was served, hot and buttery and was a generous portion. For dessert we had kheer. It was much thicker than the way most Indian restaurants serve it. It was beautifully plated with pomegranate seeds on top sprinkled with fruity swirl. So delicious. The atmosphere is lovely and there was smooth, jazz music playing in the background which enhanced the experience. The food is amazing, The service is exceptional, and there is parking available both in the lot and in the lot across the street. This restaurant will make it into our regular rotation of favorite places.

The BEST meal in Syracuse so far comes from this ridiculously good Indian restaurant and let me tell ya.... The hospitality is top notch and the ambiance is delightful! My father and I visited Raj for lunch on a Monday in October. The restaurant was not very busy. We were immediately greeted and received excellent service once we were seated. As an appetizer, we had somosas which were crispy with plenty of tasty hot filling. My father had the tandoori chicken and he said it was tender and delicious. I had the Saag Panner at a medium spice level which was the perfect level of spice for me. The server brought us out a complimentary dish of rice pudding for dessert. They did not have a separate lunch menu so we paid dinner prices, but we got dinner sized portions. Excellent Indian food and extremely attentive service! read more

I have tried many Indian places in Syracuse and this one might just be my favorite. Been coming here for around a year and have probably been here 10 times. The food is constantly delicious. A variety of flavorful curry's tailored to your preferred spice level with multiple protein or vegetarian options. I'd recommend the lamb or the salmon. If the tandoor is more your style they have many sizzling options that will fill the air with a mouth watering aroma. It's best to enjoy this food "family style". Get a few dishes for the table and pair it up with an order of the garlic naan to scoop up all that delicious curry. The standout here is the service. You can tell the owner has built a culture here with customer experience in mind. The staff is friendly and attentive. It is obvious that they truly appreciate your patronage and you will always feel welcomed here. This is far and away the best Indian restaurant in Syracuse and probably is just the best restaurant in Syracuse. read more

I brought my family here when they came to visit me. Everything was amazing. Nothing was average. Every dish was delish, beautifully presented, and the servers checked on us frequently, and refilled our waters, and gave great suggestions. I order take out from here all the time, but eating in the restaurant is special. I can't wait to come back. read more

We were seated quickly upon arrival during at Saturday night dinner. I'm sure it won't be as quick when students return. The University Area had been lacking in Indian cuisine and Raj Saffron House fits the bill. The server was extremely attentive and was prompt to fill water glasses. We ordered the butter chicken and the saffron special biryani with a side of garlic naan. We didn't wait long, and the food was served hot. It was absolutely delicious, all of the right amount of flavor from the butter chicken, and the biryani had a bit of a kick. We can't wait to go back and try more from the menu. read more

I would absolutely recommend this restaurant for anyone looking for Indian cuisine in Syracuse! Great service, very friendly people, quick and attentive! We had Cheese Pakora which had an incredibly delicious breading, Vegetable samosas which had a good spice to it with great flavoring. The lamb tikka masala had bold flavors which tasted true to traditional tikka masala while still having uniqueness! We also had the Shahi Paneer which was sweet, it had a lovely butternut squash feel. The garlic naan was buttery and the garlic was very present which we loved! The restaurant had plenty of seating and lovely lighting. It would be a great place to bring your friends! read more

I was in Syracuse for a CS2 LAN and my team and friends decided to come here after both the breakfast places near by had long waits. Raj Saffron house was without a doubt the best Indian food experience I've ever had. We were a party of 8 and they brought out complimentary chai as well as complimentary onion bahji and rice pudding. Everything was delicious and I highly recommend. read more

You literally cannot find any better Indian food in all of Central New York than at Raj Saffron House. I have been there twice now and will go back time and time again. Ate there several weeks ago and it's my new favorite Indian Restaurant. Service was great since we were there late lunch the place was empty but that made no difference. Being a desi I almost never go to an Indian Pakistani restaurant as it's never good enough ! The food at the restaurant was however exceptional. There is no better service anywhere. In addition to papadum, we were given pakora appetizer and rice pudding dessert at no charge. They just brought it out. I had extra hot chana dal and my friend had mild aloo gobi and chicken korma with garlic naan. We were both very happy with our choices. All was delicious and the fresh flower presentation on the plate was beautiful. The menu is large and includes several vegan and vegetarian options. Prices are more than reasonable--prices you might have paid a couple years ago. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant was at full capacity by 6pm on a cold February Saturday in Syracuse. It is a small space and quickly filled with customers who seemed familiar if not regular.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They do not serve alcohol, but I noticed that several groups brought their own bottles of wine. Eight of us went for dinner the other night, with a reservation. We were seated promptly and had water and pappadams almost immediately. We ordered samosas and onion bhajias, both were excellent. Owner also brought a complementary chicken dish that was delicious. We ordered a variety of entrees as we had some who were not as familiar with Indian food, a long with several different breads. That was a good choice, as everyone got to sample many different things and all were great. Especially notable was the lamb vindaloo, ordered spicy and it did not disappoint! Everyone lover the baigan bartha (eggplant) as well. We did not order dessert, but we're served complimentary rice pudding, which was good. Definitely will be back! read more

I was visiting my sister and we decided to try Saffron House on a Friday night. The restaurant itself has a neighborhood feel when you walk in. The waitstaff were attentive and very friendly, offering suggestions on what we should order. We started with an appetizer of calamari masala which was flavorful and tender. We then decided to try a few dishes to share, we got the lamb shank masala, Chilean sea bass and chicken tikka masala, along with an order of naan. I just ate here with my boyfriend on Thanksgiving Eve, and I can say this is my new favorite restaurant in Syracuse. The waiter and host were both very kind and made sure we were taken care of all evening. All the food we ordered was delicious. We ordered the Chicken Korma, Chicken Curry, garlic and Keema Naan. I have been here twice so far for two of my friends' birthdays and the food and service is amazing! The ambiance is lovely, they have jazz playing that isn't so loud you can't hear your conversations but enough so it isn't dead silent. The vegetarian menu is longest I've ever seen and they have so many dietary sensitive options like halal, vegan, no onions, you name it. As an update, after 9-10 ordering door dash we decided to dine in person. Service was very good. Food was very good. The place is nice. Tables could use some updating but a good vibe in general. Smelled great from the parking lot and even better on the inside. Plenty of parking although we went at like 4:45 like old people that we are. We had a lamb skewer for appetizer. We had Chicken Vindaloo, Chicken Tika Masala and garlic Naan. We were given free of charge a yoghurt soup with chopped fruit etc on the house. It was refreshing. It's been awhile since we've sat in the restaurant but whenever we do it's always a great experience. Take-out is a different story. When we've ordered on GrubHub we never get a notification stating the food is ready so we just go a little after the specified time it's expected to be ready. I don't know how orders come in from GrubHub but it seems like they don't always see them. There have been numerous times when the food isn't ready and based on the extensive time we have to wait to get the food it it's clear they hadn't even seen the order come in. This certainly isn't every time but it's happened multiple times. Recently we tried using GrubHub and but were having issues with spotty wifi so we called it in instead. They said we could pay when we arrived. I was quite shocked that the order which totaled $40 on Grubhub rang up as $53 in person (see receipts attached). I stated my surprise but their response was to try DoorDash instead next time. If you compare the receipts each main dish rang up about $2 more expensive in person than it did on Grubhub and each appetizer or dessert was $3 more. The quantity of food we received was no different than when we order via Grubhub and when called out for this I would have expected a better response. So if you're interested in picking up take out, NEVER order direct. But if you order through a third party always call to check the food is ready before picking it up so you don't waste your time waiting.

On Fridays, they sometimes serve Fish Masala which is a personal favorite of mine. There are also a wide variety of vegetarian and vegan options as well beyond the salad bar. In fact, if you ever consider converting to a vegetarian diet, Indian cuisine is the way to go. The variety of options consisting of chick peas, cabbage, cauliflower, potatoes, eggplant, okra, lentils and cheese are so expertly prepared with herbs and spices that make any traditional Indian dishes absolutely delicious. If you are new to Indian cuisine you can feel confident in the knowledge that the spice levels are very mild (unless you specifically request a certain level of spiciness). Overall, its a great and affordable experience for any foodie who enjoys fragrant cuisine highlighted by herbs and spices that aren't overbearing. The buffet is all-you-can-eat and the to-go option is very filling. This is my go-to option for anytime I am famished and just want something delicious that always leaves me satisfied. I don't even know where to start- they absolutely made my day. I was having the hardest day, and I came in with two cranky kiddos and they were the kindest most supportive staff. The food was the best Indian I have had to date, which I really needed in life, having moved from the Bay Area, I missed having such amazing Indian food. I dunno, it was a little escape for us while on the road through Syracuse and I'm so grateful for this gem. Will be coming back every time I'm out here. read more

today was my third time dining at Raj, which I rave about regularly. I had thee best experience! the service is unmatched, the food is unequivocally flavoral, and beautifully plated, complete with rose petals and edible glitter dusting! we received complimentary chai and vegetable pakora, dessert, and were given hugs upon leaving! Amazing food. amazing service. Owner spent time to speak with us about the food options. He also gave us a free sample of an app and a small sample of dessert ! Then went out of hid way to get my son a piece of cake to go for his birthday. We will be back and i highly recommend !! read more
