Wow wow wow! The Cider Mill has been on my "must try" list and I finally had an opportunity, it did not disappoint. I made a reservation a few days ahead of time for a Saturday night. We arrived to a busy atmosphere that quieted down throughout the night. We started with cocktails which were strong and delicious. The brussel sprout appetizer was to die for, who knew that brussel sprouts go well with blue cheese! I ordered the salmon dish which was incredible. My friend enjoyed the Greek chicken dish. We were disappointed we didn't have enough room for dessert so we'll just have to come back! Other notes: the service was friendly and there was extra parking across the street if necessary. I've been here only once before and I gave it a fairly rave review...perfect meal and I've always looked forward to returning. My wife took me for my birthday a couple of days ago. I read up on the menu and discovered they offered lamb chops which is one of my absolute favourites. A taste of home for me! Friendly and efficient staff welcomed us and showed us to our table. So far so good. Very nice young woman looked after us. My wife ordered the rigatoni and I had the chops. She loved her rigatoni so much she's finishing it off 2 days later and still loving it. Sadly my dish was a bit of a disappointment. My two large chops were extremely fatty. It's the kind you simply can't cut through on a slippery plate. Trying to separate what little meat there was from the fat was impossible so I had to give up and bring it home to a cutting board and an extremely sharp knife. I haven't tried to eat it yet but it looks as fatty as the first. Both had been totally covered by a condiment that I think should have been served in a separate container to allow the diner to regulate the amount desired. The base was a pilf which made trying to cut the chops even more difficult because every time the meat or the knife slipped, the table was showered with grains....all a bit slapstick....! As I previously said, my wife loved her meal and the previous visit was epic so I hate to criticise but I'm just trying to be honest and fair. I think $45 for a couple of very fatty chops with not much meat and smothered in a vinaigrette you might not like is a bit cheeky... In different circumstances I would have sent it back. I love coming here. It is on the opposite side of town but every time I do, I am re-assured why I should keep returning! I got the sea bass with risotto. It was melt in your mouth perfect. My friends got the shrimp scampi, and surf and turf. They both loved their meals. Great service, plenty of seating for guests both inside and outside in the summer. Fun spot with some delicious items to choose from! I have been wanting to try out Cider Mill for a while and I am glad that I finally did. They have some tasty menu items and I enjoyed the shared appetizer I had, as well as my salad and the entree my friend ordered. What kept it from five stars is that while the food was tasty, I felt like there were a lot of "almosts" with the restaurant. Almost great food, okay service, okay setup and noise levels. Everything felt like it had potential instead of just being amazing. I think it's a great spot to check out and there's lots of pretty good menu items, but not necessarily up to the hype that sometimes seems to surround coming here. The Cider Mill is a Syracuse gem. A great spot for a celebratory dinner or when you're in the mood for a relaxing, satisfying meal. Their menu is seasonal and you can tell the ingredients are sourced with care. They have menu indicators for vegan, vegetarian, and gluten free (I wish every restaurant would). The service is always spot on, friendly, and knowledgeable. This visit I ordered the broccoli cheddar soup and gluten free riggies which I've never had! The soup was perfect and creamy and I ate every drop. Then I was served a *giant* plate of delicious pasta. The spice of the sauce was perfect and they put over an inch of fresh Parmesan on top. I included a picture of this glorious cheese cross section. My friend's wagyu burger was perfectly cooked. Everything about this meal felt like they were generously doling out food in a "here have some more I made it from scratch" kind of way. This place isnt flashy or trendy, but warm and inviting. The menu, which changes seasonally, always has plenty of variety and it's difficult to choose between dishes. I have never had a dish here that I didn't like. My bestie and I wanted to find a place that had gluten-free items that I would enjoy, and that we could have a nice dinner while I was visiting. When I came across the Summer menu for The Cider Mill, my mouth watered. After reading a few items to my bestie, we knew we had to give this place a try, and we were so glad that we did. We made reservations for 6:30pm and barely made it on time due to traffic. We were sat right away. Our wait staff was excellent. I ordered the honey glazed carrots, they came on a bed of whipped goat's cheese. They were cooked to perfection! For my main, I ordered to Riggies, gluten-free. I hadn't ever heard of Riggies before, and knew I had to give it a try. The Riggies were a perfect balance or flavor and spice. The serving size was HUGE! Always great service, ambience and food! A small group of us gathered on 8/6 for dinner. I had the pan seared salmon, and dove in before I took a picture. It had been plated beautifully! The salmon comes with a cherry chipotle Demi; I asked it be served on the side. Good thing - it's got some heat! The salmon was crispy outside, moist inside and yummy. The asparagus was tender crisp. We also had a popover appetizer with spinach pesto that highlighted the twin pleasures of sweetness and oiliness. It wasn't not tasty. But the drink situation was kind of sad. They brought me an aperol spritz that was so flat. It was a special occasion so I was reluctant to say anything that would kill the mood but I got my courage up and mentioned it to the server. She said their prosecco was on tap and took it away like this had happened before. She brought it back very quickly and I'm pretty sure the bartender just dumped in extra club soda. I think this is a really quality restaurant in the area. I don't think it's that pricey for the quality and amount of food. Staff are friendly and everything is made to order. They have daily specials. We enjoyed their cocktails and octopus to start. It was not cheaply fried calamari, it was several grilled tentacles on top of a mix of beans, sausage, and pico with a special sauce. So good! We then split the lobster risotto and steak Diane. A beautiful evening outside on the patio. A tasty cider I've never tried before. The wonderful complimentary focaccia bread. A great brussel sprouts appetizer with a perfect cook and fun flavoring. A delightful Cesar side salad. The mahi mahi fish of the day was wonderful with perfectly cooked potatoes and asparagus. The Riggies were a perfectly el-dente cook with a wonderful sauce. I got it with the spicy sausage which was incredible. We got the cherry pie with graham cracker crust dessert and it was the perfect way to end our meal. Such an easy place to recommend and with this being the current summer menu there were so many more things we wanted to try. Seems like you can't go wrong here. Stopped in with an 8:00 pm reservation for 2 on a Friday. We were promptly greeted and seated. Our server was attentive and friendly, providing commentary on each of our choices which was nice. We ordered two appetizers, sprouts and rock shrimp hush puppies. These both came nicely paced before our meal and we were pleased. The sprouts were the absolute highlight of the night. These could've been served as a dessert- my date was floored. The hush puppies were only okay, very dry on their own. The provided butter spread was a necessity but was too sweet for my liking. I had ordered salmon and my partner the bbq platter. My salmon was a touch overdone but the coconut lime rice was tasty and the cucumber mint salad was a nice touch. I did not care for the sauce on the fish. My partner enjoyed her large plate of barbecue. I will say that we had leftovers and I was unimpressed by the containers used- they wouldn't have held up for anything remotely saucy. And not for nothing, but if I'm paying $40 for a salmon filet- I'd like you to box my leftovers for me. Total came to right around $100 for the two of us with no alcohol. I've had much better meals at the Cider Mill in the past and I'm worried that the quality may be slipping a bit. Hopefully my next visit will be a little more impressive. read more

Our food was wonderful and Jordan our server was great. Professional but also very friendly and helpful. Everyone was seated promptly as we arrived at different times. Water was brought over and drink orders were taken. We got our menus and the new seasonal menu was filled with so many outstanding choices it was hard to decide. They make their own blueberry juice to use in their cocktails and mocktails. I had a beautiful mocktail with Blueberry juice, pineapple juice and ginger beer. They offer small portions of all their salads so I started off with the Cider Mill salad... greens, apples, walnuts and craisins with a light vinaigrette. Everything was fresh and looked beautiful. I had the pasta of the day - Gemelli with seared scallops, veg of the day and a lemon butter sauce. The scallops were seared perfectly, the pasta and veggies were light but very flavorful. Our party of four had never been here (hard to believe, since we're all foodies) and were looking forward to an early dinner on a Saturday evening. Good thing we made reservations, since the place had only been serving for 30 minutes and was already half filled with diners. We were happy to be seated in the small dining room off of the main one, since we wanted to chat over our meals. Our server was great, as they turned up the heat and turned down the music for us. We ordered a few draft craft beers, and two Moscow Mules (served in glasses, oddly enough) to start. They were all fresh and tasty. Since we weren't in a hurry, the somewhat leaisurely service was welcome after having gone to several restaurants where they seem to want to get you in and out as soon as possible. We opted for the Cider-Brined Pork Chops, Prime Rib and French Onion Chicken. The chops were incredible, perfectly cooked and the mashed potatoes and mixed seasonal veg were excellent as well. The Prime Rib was inhaled and no leftovers were set aside for fido. :( The French Onion Chicken was tasty, but we would have preferred either chicken breast, or boneless thighs to make for less work on the plate. Lastly, since most of us were already stuffed, two of us shared a pecan pie slice with coconut ice cream dessert. The pie was different (in a good way) than any we'd ever had, consisting of mostly crushed pecans. Way less cloying and sugar laden than the usual, while the ice cream was a single small scoop, akin to a gelato sized portion. It had an icy consistency, which was not what we were expecting. We would have enjoyed a slightly larger, creamier iteration to offset the relative dryness of the pie. Overall, though, we all rated the ambience, service, food and beverage a solid A. Definitely a gem. Not a hidden gem, as when we exited the restuarant, the dining room was filled to capacity, and there was a line of diners waiting to be seated. read more

After a ton of recommendations and hesitating for a while, hubby and I checked out the Cider Mill. Dinner started off on an extremely high note with the polenta cake. Perfectly golden fried with a melty blanket of mozzarella cheese swimming in a sea of creamy roasted red pepper cream sauce. Needles to say, that didn't last too long. Shortly thereafter, the focaccia bread with tomatoey dipping sauce was brought out. Super yummy! For dinner, hubby opted for the prime rib and I chose the surf and turf. While hubby's steak was perfectly cooked, mine was a bit overcooked. Now, while it wasn't completely medium, it was very flavorful and had a beautiful char on the outside. The grilled shrimp, mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus that accompanied it were a chef's kiss! Soo good! We capped the night with a to go container of their fudge cake, which was moist and rich. Met friends for dinner here last night. Our waitress was fantastic (I'm sorry I didn't get her name). She didn't make us feel rushed but at the same time was very attentive to our needs. We started with cocktails and I liked my old fashioned very much it is definitely one of the better ones I've had around town. We didn't have any appetizers. For my entree I had the chicken riggies spicy with breaded chicken. It was a generous portion and I liked the breaded chicken and the sauce was medium spicy and very creamy. For desert I had the brownie with ice cream and hot fudge. I thought the brownie was dry and ice cream was icy instead of creamy. The desert was my only letdown of the evening. I wish I had gotten the cream Brûlée that looked amazing and my friend said it was. We stayed 3 hours talking and eating and never felt rushed to get out. It was an enjoyable evening. read more

Tender, tasty, the family enjoyed them. The Poutine too held its own. The gravy, cheese curds and fries were an excellent combo. For entree' it was a potato crusted salmon. Even for a Thursday, the salmon tasted quite fresh. The portion was good. The spaghetti squash rocked, the beans were, well, beany (not much to say about beans ). The other entrees included eggplant, NY Strip and Riggies. The minus a comment that the steak was a bit fatty, everyone enjoyed their meal. Libations we're across the board; bourbons, mules, and beers. Solid calls around. Closed out the evening with a few warm cider donuts. A hit! Stopped on a Friday night at five for dinner to a restaurant that for years housed Morey's Cider Mill, a local favorite fish fry, cider mill n bakery. It was early n not too busy but the place was filling up fast, We were seated quickly n a bottle of tap water n glasses were placed on the table. We also ordered drinks while looking at the menu. They had quite a few specials but we read about the heavenly thighs in previous reviews and n didn't see it in the menu. The waiter explained they were no longer available at this time as the menu changed. Also, If you're looking for a fish fry or any type of fried seafood, this probably wouldn't be the place, but they do have other seafood entrees available. I decided on the short rib n grit's n my dinner date chose sausage riggies. We both ordered side salads w balsamic dressing. My dinner diner asked for bread be brought since a red sauced dish was ordered. Our waiter returned quickly with some squares of bread in a basket with dipping oil. It tasted pretty good but I thought at first it was cornbread, but it tasted like some type of focaccia that was cut into squares. The bread was good with a texture made for an oil dip. The side salads tasted fresh n the only downside were the plates were on the small side A bowl of salad would've been easier to manage. We didn't have to wait long for our food considering the crowd. The presentation of short rib, cheese grits w a demi sauce n side of asparagus was very good. The beef was tender n flavorful n the grits were a nice creamy addition but the demi made it. The sausage riggies came in a huge bowl with plenty of sausage n sauce. Leftovers were boxed n we also brought home a chocolate mousse dessert that lacked a good spray of the white stuff. The restaurant seems small from the outside but does have a full bar an additional seating in another room. The framed photos on the wall kindly reflect the past restaurant. This is a nice place for get together or a quiet weekend night. Alot went into carefully prepared entrees. The service was great too . It's worth going back to try more menu options. Haven't been here in a while but all of the buzz made me curious to go back. I was not disappointed. The highlight of the night was the great service provided by Kennedy. We were seated in a small dining room in the rear of the restaurant. It was very nice and not so noisy as the main dining room, so it allowed us to have a nice conversation. There are plenty of cocktail, wine, and beer options. I had a very nice martini. We started with acorn squash and onion dip which was topped with roasted chickpeas. Wouldn't unusual but delicious dish. To the restaurants credit, the menu appeals to everyone since it is so diverse. I ordered the salmon and it was perfectly prepared. The Caesar side salad was pretty small but tasty. This is a wonderful place to go with friends. You can depend on perfectly prepared food and service. We ordered drinks a margarita and a craft beer. They were ok. I wanted to try the burrata with hot honey, peaches, candied pecans and mint. I also wanted to try the truffle arancini with garlic and parm. Both appetizers were fantastic! We ordered the burnt ends burger for dinner. It was huge! I could only eat a small piece. It is also located on land that was once owned by my wife's great grandmother who owned the original cider mill and saw mill that was located here along with all of the surrounding Hobbs Tract land.
