The Tonkotsu was incredibly rich, creamy, and deeply flavorful without being overly heavy. On the flip side, the Shoyu broth was perfectly balanced, savory, and clean. You can tell they put a lot of time into their bases. As a parent, a huge bonus here is the generous portion sizes. The bowls are massive--the portions were large enough that my kids were easily able to share one bowl and both left completely satisfied. Excellent food, great value, and family-friendly. The edemame was overly salted which was interesting because yes edamame is usually prepared with a good amount of salt but currently debating if its the like the wrong salt. Why we say that is because of how tingly our lip's became shortly afterwards. Maybe we ordered the wrong stuff and there is better, but I would I will say for sure I do NOT recommend the raku ramen. This is strictly for miso veggie ramen. We've been coming here since their opening. The veggie ramen used to be our absolute favorite dish here at Raku ramen. Today they completely messed it up. The broth was very thick and pasty, the tofu had gone bad, noodles were overcooked. Most of it all, it didn't taste right. So we asked them to make it again. The noodles and tofu got fixed. The broth was less thick but it still didn't taste right. Not sure if they hired a new chef or changed recipe but please bring back the old veggie ramen!!!! I found the tuna roll to not be spicy at all but that could be based on spice tolerance. The ramen just didn't have much flavor. Overall, everything I ordered tasted okay. You order at the front register and then they bring your food over. My ramen was not very impressive and to be quite honest did not taste very fresh or good at all. The pork smell and taste was very strong and not ideal. The pork belly was not fresh and tough to chew. The chicken bits we received were good, they were probably the best part. Came in on a Sunday afternoon around 1:30PM and it wasn't very busy. You order and pay at the counter up front, and the food is then brought to your table. Seating is self-service, as are water, utensils, napkins, and condiments. There is also an area to return dishes after eating. The service was friendly and the interior is cute. I ordered the salmon katsu rice bowl and was unfortunately disappointed with the portion size. The dish came with a lot of rice and one slim slice of salmon. For a $20 entree it was disappointing that this was the amount of protein given. The flavors were actually quite good, the sauces paired well, and the panko breading had a nice crunch to it. I just feel weird paying that much for such a small amount of the main item in the dish. If I had finished all the leftover rice I probably would've been plenty full, but I left unsatisfied. My boyfriend got the shoyu ramen with pork belly, which also fell flat for both of us. The broth was kind of bland and just didn't taste like typical shoyu ramen broth. Raku used to be very good. Two days ago, our family went there for lunch. We ordered 2 bowls of spicy ramen. One thing we noticed right away, the soup base was heavily diluted. The weather is cold & stormy and I wanted a nice bowl of ramen to warm me up. Raku Ramen has a vegetarian/vegan-friendly ramen listed on the menu so I decided to try it out! You walk in, order at the counter, then take a number and find a seat anywhere you'd like inside. Help yourself to utensils, condiments, water, and to-go boxes on the table to the side. The menu is split, half ramen & half sushi rolls. I did not try any of the sushi so cannot speak on the quality, but I did notice a few vegan/vegetarian rolls on the menu. I ordered the steamed edamame (the stir-fried one has oyster sauce in it so not veggie-friendly) and veggie miso ramen made vegan. They swapped the egg noodle out for rice noodles and there is no egg. I loved the creamy miso broth! I thought it had excellent flavor and was not too overwhelming or salty. It is topped with broccoli, spinach, corn, bean sprouts, seaweed, and tofu. I saw another reviewer mention they requested the tofu fried and I would like to try that next time. However, I'm personally not a big fan of the rice noodle, they got soggy too quickly and broke apart. I enjoy non-egg yellow noodles more for ramen bowls, but I understand that it is probably more difficult & expensive to source. I'm just a tad bit spoiled by the ramen shops in San Francisco (recognizing that they are also much more pricey!). However, for a quaint quick-service style restaurant in Santa Rosa, I think this is a great option for the neighborhood and for those who want a comforting bowl without having to drive to the big city and spend the big bucks. When we arrived right past 5, we were one of the first to sit down, but the restaurant was full when we left an hour later. Spicy ramen was not spicy. The base was diluted and very oily. Gross thick layer of oil on top. It tasted bland and sour. I managed to force myself to eat only the protein and everything thing such as vegetables barely made it in bowl. One half egg. Really? They skimped on every ingredient. The noodles were low quality too. If you want to eat a really delicious ramen bowl drive to Sebastopol ramen Gajin. They've perfected and maintained the quality all these years. The miso broth is just a derivative of miso paste and water. No additions or umami infused. Not even another broth to add other levels. Straight from a package and water most likely. Noodles had no bite or springiness whatsoever. Just packaged egg noodles essentially. Veggies tasted old, especially the bamboo and broccoli.For the other one, the shoyu broth was not rich in any way. The chashu isn't even really chashu. Essentially pork chunks were cooked in that broth and that's where it came from. The mini grilled chicken don, the chicken wasn't even grilled. Just cold strips with teriyaki tossed over it on a bed of rice. Also, when you pay for an egg to add to ramen, it is for each half based on what I got and what I ordered from the site. The portion is very generous and can be shared if ordering 1-2 appetizers. The flavor was extremely disappointing. The broth lack any any flavor. We tried adding their chili oil and chili paste and still no flavor. The chicken breast was cook well and had the most flavor, the pork belly was barely cooked and felt a little uneditable in my opinion.
