This Raleys location is bar none for selection and quality of meats/produce/bakery etc. They are constantly adding new items and hard to find items and I have never had a problem locating items as the store is very well organized. E-cart is highly touted here as there are many remote customers that do their big shopping here. The missing fifth star is for the checkout process. Just today I spent 15 minutes in line with only two people ahead of me (the first of which was wrapping up the sale as I entered the queue). Without fail, express lane or "regular", expect a majority of the cashiers to move as s-l-o-w as possible. read more

It's now a couple years later. I was in this store last week and they had yogurt in their shelves still with expiration dates of December 22/23!!!! I wonder if this is in violation of something. Selling spoiled goods. Because people don't know always to check. Or they are in a hurry. It annoys me because this store is so convenient and the staff is really exceptional. I downgrade them to three stars because companies should look at their reviews and respond to them. And I have notified someone each time on multiple occasions there is expired yogurt in the back but the practice has NEVER CHANGED. If anything it is more blatant. Because never have I seen a THREE WEEK OUTDATE. That is poor management. Also i avoid them now. I try to go to Save Mart. Only because it makes me mad that management clearly doesn't care If THEY DON'T care about their business then why should I? Update : I just got the following response (see below). Sorry that sounds good on paper. But until I see change I won't believe it. I have been Shopping here for 8 years and not only have I told someone a dozen times (I gave up. It's been 8 years so clearly it's not a priority) but I've spoken with many customers who have the exact experience at this store. People shopping stand in front of the milk products and discuss how you have be really careful not to take expired stuff home and and mad that it happened to them once. So I'll believe it when you make a change. Also your produce is HORRIBLE and I've started saving my receipts when I shop there because they are expensive. I've brought home a dozen fruits and veggies that were rotten within two days. They seem "just okay" at the store but decompose rapidly. I don't get anything here anymore but drive further to save mart unless it's something I'll b using that night (like I need a pepper). Again I don't blame employees. It's managements decision to decide on the quality of store they wAnt to hav. As I said, this is convenient and your employees are really really great. I blame the owner or upper management. Because they should demand more of their store. If they need employees to face products hire high school students like Fred Meyer did when my son was in high school. This could be the absolute worst pharmacy I've ever been to. They get prescriptions wrong, are slow and the service is terrible. Maybe the employees are overworked and underpaid, but regardless it's no excuse to talk down to people or treat them poorly. I have been patient with this pharmacy for two years and will not ever go back. I went there tonight and was told I needed to sign a form stating I had read their privacy policy. When I asked where the policy was, I was given a condescending look and asked, "you don't know what HIPAA is?" I said I did but wasn't going to sign a form without reading what I was signing for first. I was also supposed to receive a year's worth of meds and when I asked why I was only receiving 3 month's supply she said, I don't know, maybe your insurance no longer allows it. I asked her to check the system as to why and she said, well, you can call them. Hmmmm. Isn't it your job to do that? I explained I spoke with another employee there who said she could fill for one year and did not receive any follow up call with any issues regarding the refill. I asked her to check their systems again and within 10 seconds she was able to tell me my insurance will only cover 3 months. Geez, thanks. I know I was really putting you out asking you to do your job that took seconds out of your day. I am constantly disappointed in this pharmacy and am choosing to take my business elsewhere. It's too bad too because this is such a convenient location but I am willing to drive farther just to avoid dealing with these unhappy employees. I hope whoever is reading this has a more pleasant experience. And if you're looking to get groceries here, expect many of their products to be out of stock. That is a constant issue. John, an evening employee/manager here, hassled me about using a DMV-issued license (despite the fact that I'm several years over 21, and was accompanied by a friend also over 21 with a license). If he couldn't accept my license, fine, but rather than completing my purchase with or without the expensive bottle of port I was trying to buy, he loudly asked the man waiting in line behind me, "Are you trying to scam us, too?" as if I were trying to pull one over on them by spending my money here--a mistake that will not be repeated. We've shopped at all the Raley's in the area for 20+ years. The Raley's on Lincoln Way has been our home Raley's for the last 6 years, shopping there at least twice a week, very often an e-cart order. Employee Alice has always done the best e-cart orders for us, selecting produce, dairy and meat as if she were shopping for her own family. Sky has done a great job as well. I prefer e-cart for convenience and the store itself is rather dark inside. My major complaint has been when using coupons at the check out, I've been told by at least one clerk and Manager Jon that I could not use my internet printed coupons (they were from coupons.com). He made me feel like I was shady and trying to pull some scam. It embarrassed my daughters who were with me at the time and made me uncomfortable enough to take my business to Safeway for a while, but we've since gone back to Raley's because the rest of the staff have always been helpful and friendly. One would think that management would know their coupon policy. For that alone I deducted 2 stars from my review. I just make sure to carry a copy of the Raley's corporate coupon policy in my wallet should I be questioned again. read more

I have been shopping here for four years!!! Since I bought a house in Meadow Vista. I had lost my debit card and asked to write a check for groceries with 50. Cash out for gas. My check was refused, when manager came over I thought no problem I have drivers lic and a Visa. Nope wouldn't cash my check. Is this how you treat your customers? In the old days, if you show a drivers lic and a major credit card, cashing a check is no problem. I don't think most places even ask for a drivers lic anymore. This review is for the floral section, specifically the floral manager Monica! (this is the bride using her hubs' account) My mom and I actually ended up ordering my wedding flowers here for my wedding at the Forest House Lodge in Foresthill. Long story short, no florists were all that helpful, and their flower prices were a bit pricey-and it was getting to be crunch time. Then my mom called Monica at Raleys and she was so helpful, informative, and clearly actually interested in her job that we took a gamble and ordered flowers through her. She double checked on prices, stayed in touch the whole time, made sure the flowers looked nice, and gave us a call when they came in and let us know that a few were still in bud form (which she had warned us was a possibility). We'd expected that and had ordered a backup, and with her buckets and tubes that she gave us for free, we made beautiful centerpieces, bouts, and my bouquet. So thank you Monica, you came through at the last minute, and we were more than impressed! read more

A friend and I stopped by here on our way to Tahoe last weekend. Since we needed to stop for gas we figured we should picky up some beer and food. Average selection of beer. We also picked up bacon and eggs for breakfast. My friend picked up the eggs. I went looking for the bacon. The bacon was not near the meat so the layout of the store was a bit strange. Right off the bat she was the sweetest person ever ! She legitimately made my sandwich with so much love! I personally work at a restaurant so when I see good customer service I will definitely speak on it and this woman deserves so much more than a review . One of our favorite dinners is gourmet hamburgers with the cheese and seasonings already mixed in. We usually buy them at Save Mart and love them, imagine our surprise at seeing them at Raley's - Gourmet Beef Patties with Three Cheeses. The surprise ended very quickly when we started eating them. There was a lot of gristle and little pieces of bone in the meat, the meat was so smashed together it looked like a sponge, and there was no flavor. So disappointed. The manager is rude. For some reason he makes rude comments to me when I shop and he also followed me out to my car and verbally threatened to break my vehicle window stating that he carries a window breaker tool in his pocket. I advised him not to vandalize my automobile and to leave me and my service animal alone. Raleys is my favorite store and I really don't want to stop shopping there but I do not feel good about the way the manager treats me. My review is about Sharri T in the deli. She is the best. Raley's is very fortunate to have a employee like her. My girlfriend and I are from the Bay Area and we go to Reno about once a month. On our way home we always look forward to stopping and get a sandwich from the deli. On this particular day Sharri was not in the deli we were a little bummed but ordered sandwiches anyways. The girl (not sure what her name was) who made my sandwich basically just slapped everything on it and wrapped it up like she was wadding up a piece of trash. We looked over and saw Sharri was there but she was working in Peet's. I went over to say hi and as always was greeted with a cheerful smile. I said "we came just to see you but you aren't working in the deli today." She asked us how everything was and I told her I was a little disappointed in the sandwich that I order but it was not a big deal just wanted to say hi. Sharri immediately offered to go and make me a new sandwich. I told her it wasn't necessary but she insisted. She made the sandwich and I was extremely grateful. I have never experienced such a rude grocery cashier, as I did today at this Raleys. Pam D. Was her name and she was just coming on shift and was switching out the the previous cashier. She started moving things around in the cart and I politely told her the items were separate from my husband who had used the same cart and was finishing his transaction. She said "I have to move them to check them out." It wasn't so much what she said, but the sarcasm and barely concealed sustain dripping from her words. Everything else she said was tinged. If I come back to this store and she was the cashier I would leave and spend my money elsewhere. read more

Pretty good eCart services but terrible pharmacy. New to the area and my Dr sent my rx there...they never asked for my insurance info and charged me full price for my prescription. My husband didn't know any better so he paid it when he picked it up for me. When I called the next day to get it sorted out, Mary was beyond rude and seemed very inconvenienced by my call. Went there to get some breakfast because nothing else was open other than fast food crap... Lucky choice! I had the croissant pannini b'fast sandwich and it was very, very good. Cost 4 bucks, so it wasn't cheap. On the other hand you'd get less food at McDonalds for the same price and you would feel like you ate a soggy brick. The only complaint is that they use too much packaging-I stopped the nice woman who worked there from putting the wrapped sandwich in a thermal bag. There is a girl there by the name of Jenae who makes it a pleasure to stop there. Her personality and her undivided attention to her customers is very heartwarming, which makes me want to come into your store and buy more coffee, just because of how special she makes her customer's feel. I have a great experience almost every time I visit this store. I find they have fresher produce than the other grocery stores in town. I am addicted to the lay out and the ease of finding everything. I have never had a date issue in this store... missing prices on the shelf. Always room for improvement on scheduling for rush hour. If ever lane was going that would be heaven. The employees are great and ill bet treated well. You can always tell if the employer dishes out what they expect from a employee. Only problem I have ever had was when writing a check. Its not from the stone age and if your systems fail they should be collected as cash and you can fix the issue later (local checks). read more

The aisles are way too skinny here! It's barely possible for two people with shopping carts to go by one another in some aisles. Employees are nice but it seems like their is some corporate level mismanagement going on. Problems with employee strikes in the last year or two have caused some obvious tension that the executives need to fix with some kind of peace offering to their employees. It's clear based on the strike that the employees feel mistreated and considering Joyce Raley Teel is a billionaire, it comes as no surprise that the employees are upset by their pathetic hourly wages. Especially considering that the union that is supposed to protect these workers allowed Raley's to place pay freezes on their employees while their CEO continues to make huge donations to charities to puff up the public image of Raley's. I'm sure those donations do wonders when tax season comes around too. The workers seem like great people - I give them 5 stars. Store design is just too narrow - 3 stars. John, the night manager, is sadly, truly a jerk. The checkers are great here, as are the fish/meat folks, but man, that John guy could drive away Mother Theresa. I shopped here 2 years, but John finally drove me away last night by just being rude, pompous and condescending for the last time of too many. He treats many regulars, self included, like they are shoplifters - and I am not surprised to see these other reviews here saying the same thing. Raley's - listen up - get rid of that guy!! His small-minded paranoia is hurting your customer service profile!! He might be a lot more useful as a correctional officer, perhaps, but he has no place in a customer service role. Going anywhere but here now and it's too bad because the selection is good if overpriced. I have been shopping here for many years, and overall this is a good place to buy groceries due to selection, convenience, etc. The main problem is with the staff, marginally friendly and act like they really don't enjoy their jobs. On more than one occasion the checker didn't make eye contact, even acknowledge that I was there or speak to me at all while checking my groceries. I spent 20 minutes today in a checkout line, only 2 partially filled carts ahead of me, because the checker was ridiculously slow, even though she has worked there for years. She took her time checking, bagging, and when a question arose that needed a manager, she just stood there looking afraid to approach the manager, further delaying the process. The manager took care of the problem, then walked away trying not to look at any customers. No one offered any apology. The young man bagging the groceries wanted to put everything in one bag, I guess that is easier for him. I politely asked him to divide the items among the 3 bags I brought so that one wouldn't be really heavy. He mumbled something back at me and looked offended that I had made a request. Unbelievable. Another issue is with the pharmacy. At one visit I was given the wrong medication and on another day the clerk tried to give me another customer's medication. Obvious problems here. All of the great reviews you see here must be from the staff themselves or family. read more
