Can't believe I've lived one town over for so many years and never stepped foot in Ralph's. Great food, good portions and a very friendly staff. Can't wait to come back.

    Tray of Ralph's Chicken Francese

Have been hearing around town that the specialty slices at Ralph's (under the new owners) are great and they really are amazing. So this past week (Christmas '24) we had occasion to order trays of food and decided to try Ralph's. They were a total success - perfectly prepared and delicious! Everyone at this party was very impressed as were we. Chicken francese is pictured here - it was very tender and a real treat. Eggplant Rolatini and chicken marsala were also wonderful. And last but not least the bread that was included -- you know the bread that in most places is disappointing with takeout-- Ralph's bread was absolutely addicting! Not traditional Italian bread but really satisfying and even served cold it was gone in an instant. So a big thank you to the staff at Ralph's including the very talented chef for helping to make our holiday party a success!

Came in and stood at the door waiting to be seated. And waited. And waited. Disorganized. Seating was all over the place. Had one of those makeshift dividers closed in my face to close off the "dining" area as opposed to the "takeout" area. Servers were rude. Counter staff was rude. Fries were okay. Penne slice was dry.

My favorites of the night were the pastas and steak. We were lucky they allowed us to book a large party dinner, so my photos of the food are all "family style" servings. If Parmesan is too strong of a flavor for you, you may want to avoid the cauliflower since it is soaking in the sauce (delightful for those who enjoy it). Pastas were all handmade and interestingly shaped! My favorite was the Maltagliati, thin al dente ribbons sliding through a light flavored seafood sauce and tender succulent chunks of shrimp :) Everyone else chose the Gramigna as their favorite-- the curved thick ridged pasta reminded me of bucatini, which worked well with their ragu-like sausage sauce. The Garganelli had a long twisted penne-like shape but was not as al dente, a tad overcooked. It had a tasty vegetable-forward flavor. For entrees, the salmon was either poached or sous vide, making it very tender and moist which was a big contrast to the herb-crusted skin. That part mostly tasted burnt to me. The steak came pre-sliced, and it was tender but also had a nice chew -- perfect! The taste with the peppercorn sauce and mushrooms was really nice. Would definitely get that steak again, and I don't even like meat that much! And for dessert, the chocolate cake was a little dry even though it sat in a puddle of vanilla sauce. The crostata's green apple filling was sweet and tart, yummy! Things I think could be improved: the sizzling shrimp and salmon both had burnt/charred parts. Could be part of the charm, but it took away some of the enjoyment because it just tasted burnt. The small space was filled and busy all night, and it was a little loud as well. Their service was excellent; waiters looked polished in their white outfits and acted the part. It made for a lovely outing-- the birthday boy announced Gioia was his new favorite Italian restaurant! Definitely try this cute little spot out. I will be thinking about the pastas and the steak :D

I understand that prices are high everywhere, but I should have been suspicious when the lobster roll advertised on the sandwich board wasn't on the menu. It was foolish of me to not ask what the price was-- the answer was $39. They pack the inside full of lettuce so it looks like you have more. Oh, but at least you get mediocre fries. The only reason we didn't say anything was because our server was nice. But please trust me: go *anywhere* but here. There were also cobwebs that hadn't been cleaned out next to our table-- but heck, for the prices we charged, maybe we should have eaten the spiders to make up for it.

It's been a very long time since coming here last and we had many other local options but wanted to revisit. Parking was a non issue in the busy shopping center. We walked in and were greeted by the gentleman behind the counter. Eventually someone came to the edge of the seating area to seat us. We sat (4) in a clean booth. There was only one other occupied table at 5pm on a Saturday and the pizza side had one person at the counter. A gentleman named Felix came over to take our drink order. He was kind but didn't really check on us throughout the meal. Instead, another server? stopped by at the end. I was confused and asked if there was a shift change. She said no, she was just checking in. Drinks came with a basket of bread that resembled pizza crust and packaged butter. It was dry but tasted ok. Table water tasted like it was straight from the tap and was not good. All served in plastic cups. Ordered was 2 regular slices for a child, one personal margherita pie, and 2 orders of chicken francese over linguine in the same sauce. The 2 slices came out 1st, which was ok being that the child was hungry. Then the Margherita pie came out, and about 5 minutes later, the chicken dinners came out. It would have been nice to get everything all at once but I understand it was being cooked it 2 separate places. (Back kitchen/front pizza oven). Everything was hot. The waiter did not check on us, we had to ask for extra napkins and grated cheese. The regular slices were "a 7.2" on the pizza scale, says the tween. Nothing left behind. The personal Margherita pie was ok. The crust was so thin that the tomatoes on top completely soaked through and made it impossible to pick up. A very wet pizza for a thin crust. The chicken francese dishes were also just ok. The sauce was insanely lemony, and we love lemons! It was also heavy, not a light refreshing sauce. It was on the thicker side. The chicken was very chewy. I don't know if it was overcooked or just not great quality chicken. Good portions, but very chewy. The linguine underneath was perfectly al dente. No one took any used plates off the table or offered drink refills. Bread wasn't even used to sop up the sauce. They charge extra for using a credit card. It's stated on the menu (as a cash discount). I thought that was not allowed any longer in NYS, but we didn't have a choice. This place is convenient. And each time we come, we're hoping to be wow'd, but it never happens. As we were leaving, one table had joined. You'd think it would be packed on a Saturday night. The same gentlemen at the pizza counter greeted us on the way out. We may try other places when back in the area but we may return. Nothing was bad, it just wasn't as memorable as we wished it was...except for the company!

When you search for seafood spots on the North Shore of Nassau, this place ranks near the top--so we decided to make the trip out to Bayville. The restaurant fits perfectly in its coastal small-town setting. You can smell the saltwater in the air and expect good seafood. As soon as you walk in, you get that fresh seafood aroma (in a good way), notice the blue and gray decor, and see the bar with a raw bar to the right. Our waiter was super friendly and walked us through the specials and menu. We ordered Schultzy's baked clams, a lobster roll, and a shrimp po' boy. The baked clams were fantastic--probably some of the best I've ever had, no joke. Perfect seasoning, breadcrumb texture, and generous clam bits in a nice shell. The shrimp po' boy was also great, with perfectly crispy breading. Where we felt a bit let down was the lobster roll and the fries. At $38, it seemed like they used barely half of a 1.25 lb lobster. Was it cooked and seasoned well? Yes. But for that price, the portion was underwhelming. The fries were also a miss. Although they looked like steak fries but were thinner. Unfortunately, they seemed like they'd been sitting under a heat lamp and weren't freshly made. Overall, not a bad spot if you're okay with the pricing. The atmosphere and service are great, and definitely check out the clams and po' boy.
