I understand that prices are high everywhere, but I should have been suspicious when the lobster roll advertised on the sandwich board wasn't on the menu. It was foolish of me to not ask what the price was-- the answer was $39. They pack the inside full of lettuce so it looks like you have more. Oh, but at least you get mediocre fries. Bill Scam !!!! Closely look at your bill when it arrives. The charges will be correct and look fine since it's computer generated. However, they add tip to the bill if you did any of the dinner/haunted house packages for the food... which is fair. However, they add gratuity AGAIN on the tip. So you'll be charged a gratuity fee and then you have to tip on top of the gratuity charge. So your tipping twice. You're paying 20% on 20% !!!! Also, look at the reviews for this restaurant. The friendly, enthusiastic workers and the nautical setting created a good impression and I enjoyed the food also, blissfully unaware that even pro-Shipwreck Yelpers used compliments along the lines of "ok." The baked clams are a must-skip, small and $17, but my Shipwreck Burger successfully deployed ingredients like burrata. I was lucky enough to sample fish and chips, well-composed with a coating that didn't distract from the fish. The rightful owner of the steamed lobster raved about it and gave me a few bites. We went by for a quick lunch after paddle boarding nearby. It's a cute spot. I've been many times over years and seen changes. The place is so run down...nothing works... everything is broken...the restaurant outside looks in shambles with a lacking menu compared to online. We recently went to the nearby theme park to take our daughter to have her picture with Santa , and upon leaving we were hungry and decided to stop in to the Shipwreck Tavern. During the later hours on a Sunday night, getting a table for four was pretty easy even with the adequately socially distanced tables. Our waiter was good enough to know that taking care of the children is a must and so brought a juice for our little girl straight away. That gave us other adults enough time to peruse the menu and to settle on some cocktails. Drinks came out promptly and orders were placed for our meals. Important to keep in mind, this is not fine dining by any stretch of the imagination. The restaurant is in a summer or seasonal area at beachfront- expect food on par with a sport bar or slightly higher. Some good burger options and a fish dish or two. If located anywhere else, they could never substantiate the pricing. Three adults and a child's chicken fingers platter, fish and chips, a salad and a burger with three cocktails was over $150. Close to $192 with a holiday tip. I knew what I was getting into before we went in, but the convenience of being close to the theme park is the only reason to go at these prices. Knowing about the high prices and the average food, I would most likely get in the car to drive nearby and get a better value for my money. I'm sure that in the summer months, they don't have to worry about daily customer flow so maybe that's not an issue for them, but it would certainly curtail their local traffic flow in the off months. Probably not a usual occurrence, but I'm glad I checked my online statement after paying the bill. There was a problem with the hand-held credit card reader and I was charged twice for the same meal I thought was extremely expensive in the first place. A quick email that night to the manager and (now I have to double-check), and was assured that it would be reversed and taken care of. No soup booty here - the taste of it has long been plundered. Chicken Parmesan was simply okay. Pasta was watery and unsalted. If you mess up pasta, that says a lot. Pasta mutiny! The New York Strip steak with greens and garlic aioli came medium burned, a la mediocritoli. The meat had no taste of meat - it was clearly in the freezer for a while. I felt like I was eating a $32 strip of charcoal. The colder it got, the closer I came to gagging. Steak overboard! After 2 hours, I'm happy to announce the taste has finally left my palette. Honestly, I love this place. I don't understand why anyone would give it a bad review. The tiki drinks are fantastic and I love the assortment of matching tiki glasses to go along with them! The food is good... nothing amazing, but it's a beach place- you go for the tiki drinks and the view. The last time I went I really appreciated the way they handled people coming off the beach and masks. No mask? That's fine they will provide one for a dollar- which is cheaper than 7-11. I will never ever eat here again, I wish there was an option to give zero stars. My daughter and I purchased a Valentine's dinner package which included 3-course dinner and one cocktail each, fully aware that our tip for the server was not included and we would pay that separately after dinner. We were given a menu which said to pick one of each: appetizer, entree and dessert, which we both did. We also ordered one drink each from the front of the menu. When the check came, there were extra charges for two of the items we ordered. The waiter explained that the menu says extra charge for these items. The menu we were given is not their regular menu, and it's NOT the menu that was posted online when purchasing the package. Most reputable restaurants would have a policy to point out when there's charges above your package at the time you place your order, that would be the decent thing to do. The menu that was posted online with the package had $12 drinks if you purchased more than what was included in the package. The in-person menu that we were given looks almost the same as the posted version, except the drinks are $14. Then there's a $32.00 charge for liquor, bringing our bill to $50.00. He could not explain why we were being charged, and when the manager came over, she said she would fix it. Instead, she brings back a check for $36.00 which includes a liquor charge of $19.50 which I questioned, and the manager said it is the server's tip. What kind of business calls a tip liquor? When my credit card slip came for me to complete, as usual there was a line to add a tip. That's how I tip, it's called Tip, not liquor, and I decide the amount. The posting online says nothing about tip being included, in fact, it says to remember to tip your server. The parties at the table to our left and to our right who were served by the same server and were checking out at the same time as us both had the same exact problem, extra charges and liquor charges. They also had purchased prepaid packages which included drinks. We were all quite a sight to see, all complaining about getting scammed at the same time. We were treated like potential criminals when we entered the restaurant, we had to show driver's license and credit card, which were both scanned, and also had to sign a document authorizing them to charge our card. They treated us like criminals when actually they were the crooks. Even if I wanted to subject myself to their shabby treatment and hidden charges and tips which are called liquor, the food was third rate. I wouldn't go there ever again. read more

On Tuesday February 4th, I purchased two Vampire Valentines day packages for a total of $170.01. I arrived at the event thirty minutes in advance with my date and immediately was asked for my ID and Credit Card. I was also asked to sign a waiver of dispute or something similar before I was seated. This should have been a red flag. We waited over an hour and a half just to be seated. The restaurant door was packed with people and the entire place was overcrowded and simply unable to handle all the tickets it had presold for the event. Slowly, I began to realize I was being scammed. In your deceptive advertising, I was promised a unique dining experience with gourmet food as well as a thrilling event filled with fun and excitement. Now I understand that everyone's expectations are different and sometimes circumstances can make things better or worse, but what we encountered was unacceptable period. First off, upon purchase, it was made to seem that there was a small certain number of tickets and that all this was a limited engagement that will sell out fast. That is simply not true. The event was grossly overhyped up and negligently oversold. The space accommodated no more than maybe 100 people at a time and yet there was more than double that. Second of all, after waiting over an hour and a half to be seated, we requested a refund and said we would like to leave the facility. We were told that no refund was possible but that we will be served immediately. It took over another hour before any actually food was served. We were given a few frozen mozzarella sticks with no marinara and then about 45 minutes later a cold chicken sandwich and a undercooked burger even though we ordered a Chicken Parm and Steak Frites. Just imagine how you would feel? We complained to the staff and were told that the kitchen is really backed up and we will be comped our meal along with some free drinks. We waited around for about another 15 minutes and then just decided to leave and dispute the charge with our provider. This was hands-down the worst experience we've ever had. The food was disgusting, the service unbearable, and straight up embarrassing. Horrible. Just horrible. We didn't touch any of the food and it took us 4 hours just to get out of there. read more

My family and I went here for a birthday dinner last week, since we were just at the nearby amusement park earlier that day. Strike 1: We waited at the front of the restaurant for the host to seat us. Nobody ever came, and after 5 minutes we just seated ourselves at a random table. Strike 3A: We ask the waitress for a high chair for my baby sister. She says the restaurant doesn't have any available. I only saw one other high chair being used, and the place wasn't busy at all. She said she would go to another restaurant next door and ask to borrow their high chair. Strike 3B: The waitress comes back with a high chair from the other restaurant, only for us to discover that it was broken. Luckily that other family using the high chair were finishing up and gave it to us. Strike 4: There was a guy smoking a cigarette at a nearby table (we were sitting outside). We had to tell the guy ourselves to stop since we didn't want the baby breathing in smoke, because apparently the restaurant couldn't care less about it... Strike 5: After finally getting our menus, it was another ten minutes before the waitress took our orders. Strike 6A: I went into the bathroom, and it was like a gas station bathroom. The place was absolutely gross. Strike 6B: One sink in the bathroom didn't work. The other one that did splashed water all over the place and got my shirt all wet. Strike 7: The lemonade I ordered tasted weird (that might've just been a subjective thing). Strike 8: $18 for a cheeseburger that was nothing special (but at least edible). Shake Shack could've made a much better burger. The service was nearly non-existent, and the food was mediocre at most and very overpriced. I went to this restaurant on Friday evening with my family. I ordered the shipwreck burger well done no pink inside the burger. When it arrived the presentation was beautiful when I cut in half it was rare, I asked the waiter if they can please cook it for a couple minutes more I like it well done. Within 5 minutes later the waiter came back with a new burger burnt that looked so sloppy the cheese was not melted and 1 piece of bacon, and I could not even cut it itvwas so cooked. Had Sunday dinner here with my family last week and was utterly blown away with the customer service here. At first my dad was a bit disheartened because the upstairs seating area was closed as he loves the view, but this was quickly made up for when we received our coconut shrimp and fried calamari. Both were packed with flavor, the type of savory that you secretly hope you snag the last piece! Our food came shortly thereafter and it was yummy, I ordered a chicken sandwich sans avocado and it was grilled just right. My family really enjoyed their food, but what really blew us away was the amicable server named Gabriel, who came to over to compliment my dad on his t-shirt and we all talked about being fans of the rock group, Scorpions. It was a nice gesture for him to come over and spark conversation. He really impressed us by showing us a pic of Billy Joel at the table RIGHT behind ours from the night before. Yeah we were sad we missed him, but it was nice to see my parents' faces light up talking about their passion for concerts, thanks Gabriel for making us feel so welcome! I had a pina colada, and the other just had ginger ale For an appetizer we had their popcorn shrimp... problem was that they left the tails on them and the bowl with the shrimp had a pool of oil it the bottom from them being so greasy. Then one person ordered classic fish and chips, I ordered the blackened chicken sandwich, and the other person in our group asked for just a breaded chicken breast with fries. My chicken sandwich was ok... no real flavor. The fish and chips were too greasy to eat. And the chicken breast?.... well they brought out a chicken breast that looks like it was sitting in a sauce for hours, with a side of veggies and a bowl of mushrooms and sauce... after we explained that it was not what we ordered, they took away the veggies and bowl of mushroom sauce and brought fries over. We visited in late June and enjoyed the water view. Our server was very nice. The appetizers were good but my husband hated his entree. We sat inside and the interior just looks... abandoned. As if it wasn't really used or cleaned in years. I would recommend just sticking to apps and enjoying the view. Take a walk on the beach after and call it a night. Was in the area with the family on Saturday afternoon and decided to find a place to eat outdoors near the water. After reading some of the recent reviews where doesn't seem to be very flattering, I decided to try my luck anyway. Quite frankly, not sure why this place got such a bad rap. Was hoping to eat on upstairs outdoor deck, but that was closed for a private function (wedding after-party that arrived by party bus). Instead ate on outdoor deck at street level, which had a nice "tiki bar" atmosphere. Ordered a pitcher of the white sangria for wife and I - just what the doctor ordered on an 85 degree steamy afternoon! Despite being unseasonably hot this day, get a nice breeze off of the LI Sound so was very comfortable dining outdoors. Had the burger and fries and to address previous comments, yes -- $17 does seem a bit pricey. But you know what - burger was tremendous and delicious! Clearly exceeded my expectations as well as my wife and teenage son that had the same. My youngest son had the chicken fingers and french fries off the children's menu - very large portion and had plenty to take home. Overall was a very relaxing experience. My friend and I arrived at 8pm on a Saturday night . The place was basically empty except for a large group downstairs. Service was terrible . Waiting for over an hour for food . No bread . No water . Then the food arrived and it wasn't our order. They comped us a drink . We would have walked out if we weren't so hungry . Lost a star. Freezer burn calamari. What more can you say? Went back here for a few cocktails last night as it was simply gorgeous out and just wanted sit at a tiki bar and have something to munch along with a beer or two. Firstly, the so-called bartender could not have moved slower had he tried. It took him a full 5 minutes to even acknowledge us and there was only ONE other customer at the bar. I finally ordered a beer and my guest ordered a sea breeze. Danger sign #1 - a SEA breeze does not have orange juice in it, a MADRAS does. After much delay due to the ultra-slow bar dude (danger sign #2), we ordered the fried calamari and the crab cake. The calamari had that deep, dark brown color and after the first bite I knew it was going to be a fun night with the bottle of Tums. The cornmeal coating was overcooked and the calamari itself was all freezer burned and nasty looking. The crab cake fared a little better, but I make them better at home. We paid and got the hell out of there - the bar guy telling us as we left that he is there almost every night - guaranteeing we will never set foot in there again. EVER. Something must have change with ownership because this place seemed concerned with customer service and the food was really pretty good for an easy going, outdoor funstop as this place appears to be. All umbrellas and tables were in good working and maintained order. More importantly, the food tasted good. Great for a stop over on a beautiful sunny day, or for a bite after the bayville fun park next door. For what they were trying to do, I think they did pretty well. Especially for an $18 bowl of pasta. My daughter ordered the shrimp cocktail appetizer as her meal. The menu said "4 Jumbo Shrimp". What she received were 4 large pieces, no bigger than you'd get ordering large shrimp at a local Chinese food joint. I know jumbo shrimp, & that was not what she got. Not only was the food literally cold, but mussels I ordered were completely inedible! I have never seen mussels like this before. They were literally slime! There were only about 6 items on the valentines day menu. Shouldn't have been that complicated. After some time our obviously frozen mozzarella sticks came out and our other microwave prepared appetizers. They tasted like the ones you get from the supermarket frozen and you left it in the freezer for a little too long. After some time our BURGERS yes burgers took over an hour to come... finally came and were definitely over cooked. But after waiting for so long...in your head you will think it's the best thing ever.... it's definitely not. I've had a better burger from 5 guys. All in all my recommendation would be don't do it. We bought tickets for a New Years Eve Dinner and Ball Drop at 8pm for families. We had the worst New Years Eve experience ever! We went to Shipwreck Tavern with our 2 year old and 4 month old sons. To say it was a disaster is an understatement. It was apparent to us as soon as we arrived that there was something very wrong. We walked in at 6pm and we were ignored for 20 minutes. It was clear that there was an overwhelmed, negative energy. We should have left then. We stopped a staff member as they sped by us and we asked to be seated. We didn't receive a menu until we got up and asked for one. There was one server for the entire room. He was super stressed out and running back and forth, sweating and shouting at customers. We ordered our dinner only after I went up and asked if someone could take our order at 6:45pm. My 2 year old was saying "mommy I'm hungry." The staff was apologetic, and when I asked what was going on, I was told that both chefs called out of work with "flat tires" and that the WAIT staff was cooking the food in the back, leaving only one waiter to cover the entire restaurant. We almost left at this point, but decided to stay because my 2 year old didn't have dinner and was hungry. Don't you need special training to prepare food? We asked if we could have bread for our 2 year old until the dinner came out, and the hostess gave us oyster crackers. We didn't get our food until 7:45pm, only after I got up and complained that people who came in an hour after us got their food before us. When the food came out, it was disgusting! Some of it was overdone and some of it was raw. We asked to speak to a manager and we were told that she was in the kitchen cooking. We asked the manager for a refund and she suggested that we email management. She apologized for the poor service and quality of the food. I emailed three times and have been ignored. This was an all around horrible experience and it really kills me that we paid $125 for it. We will never make this mistake again...I hope this helps someone else from making it. read more

Came here with my friend while we were visiting Bayville Scream Park. It was on the premises and I promised her a meal in return for her driving and we were both hungry so we stopped here before going on the rides. The decor was nice looking, but the food was terrible. The truffle fries were very bland, not gourmet at all. My veggie burger was served on a store bought burger bun and didn't have much flavor. I wasn't all that impressed with the scream park either but if I ever do come back again I'm not eating here! read more

This place is run by a bunch of scammers. Rarely ever do I leave Yelp reviews, but this incident was worthy of one. My mom and I bought the pre-packaged Valentine's Day dinner which included a 3 course dinner. We also added on two pre-paid cocktails. When we first walked in, they took pictures of my moms credit card & license on their personal iPhone. They said it's uploaded to their "scanner system" but never have I ever had any restaurant ever take pictures of something so personal & on their personal iPhones no less. It says on the website that you need to present your credit card & ID when you get there, but nowhere does it say they're gonna take pictures of them on their personal phone. How do we know that information isn't being stored in someone's personal iCloud? We didn't make a big deal of that at the time since we wanted to have a good dinner after driving almost 2 hours to get there. The night went on & the food/drinks were all right. However, when the bill came, that's when everything really started. The waiter tried to charge us an extra $50 for our PREPAID meal. They charged us partially for "alcohol" and the rest for his gratuity I suppose. When I asked him to show what he was charging us for, he was unable to do so & was pointing at random things on the menu, which didn't add up to the correct amount anyway. We were only supposed to be charged an extra $14 since two food items we ordered (on the pre-paid menu) were an extra $8 & $6 (this wasn't mentioned to us when we ordered, but was in a smaller, different font on the menu so I suppose that part was our fault for not confirming). However, this waiter was trying to tell me that $8 + $6 adds up to $50. Anyway, the manager gets involved & seems to act like we had no reason to be upset. In the end, we were charged $14 in the extras for the food (which is fine & we had no problem paying that) & almost $20 for this scammer waiters gratuity (the gratuity was also labeled as "alcohol" which is sketchy as well considering the rest of the situation). On the website it only says "gratuity is not included. Please tip your servers." Nowhere on the website does it say gratuity will be added at the end of your meal. We normally wouldn't have minded paying the gratuity at all but after that entire experience, it was hard to justify a random 20% required tip since the waiter had attempted to scam us initially. This was also just our experience, the two separate parties sitting next to us had similar issues at the same time. It's not a good look. Never in my life have I ever thought to video record an encounter like this, but I felt I had to in the event this place continues to give us random charges since they not only have pictures of our personal information, but also made us sign a credit authorization form before we even sat down. This place treats you like you're the scammer the second you walk in, when in reality they're the real scammers. read more

So before wrapping up my little mini getaway in Long Island, we drove to a beautiful community called Bayville to grab a bite to eat. The community is a beach-town and it was really quiet and peaceful. A nice place to relax and get away from the hustle and bustle of the big city. Some parts of Long Island are just so beautiful that your mind is tricked into thinking you are in another state sometimes. I love the island for that reason. The overall restaurant experience was cool. It had a cute little tiki bar area outside and a spacious interior dining room with built in aquariums on the first floor. The back of the main dining room had a pool table and dart board for further recreation. We decided to eat upstairs on the rooftop and it was cool. The rooftop was filled with multiple tables with umbrellas protecting you from the sun, and it had another bar in the center of it. In total, 3 bars for the drinkers out there. The food was good. Certainly not the best I've had but not the worst either. Actually on today's visit, I had a bacon cheeseburger and it was good. In fairness, the only seafood I had there was the popcorn shrimp so I really can't judge how good the seafood is at this place. So again, for appetizers we had the popcorn shrimp and buffalo wings which were good. For drinks we had a combination of margaritas, bloody Mary and Hypnotic Bay breezes. For dinner I had a burger, my squeeze had the blackened chicken sandwich and my other party members had lobster rolls. We all finished our meals, but I can't say it was lights out. Just basic American food. I would definitely go back to hang out and drink and to feel the cool breeze though. If the food was more memorable, I'd give it 4 stars, but it will only receive 3 from me today. read more
