Upon entrance there wasn't much of a wait. The ramen was honestly just okay. The deluxe version was only a few dollars more than the classic so I would recommend just getting the deluxe and you get an extra pork/egg. The sesame seeds were a bit big and the broth was very thick. Service was quick and staff was nice! It's very cute inside but the Ramen itself was just okay.

Wow, what a hidden gem unearthed! We were visiting my sister when we looked around Yelp for some ramen as my son was craving for some. We ended up in Menya Shono right at the heart of Union Landing. The atmosphere and decor were really nice and felt like an authentic ramen shop. The ambiance was a precursor for some really awesome ramen. I ordered their G.K.O. Ramen; a garlic Tori Paitan broth loaded with pork chashu. My mom and my son both ordered their Ginjo Ramen and my sister had their Vegan Tantamen. We also added Chicken Karage for appetizer. The Karage came and it was delicious. It had a crispy outside texture and was tender inside. Yummy but not mind-blowing. The remen though was a whole different story. The G.K.O. ramen at my table was such a beautiful sight. All the accoutrements were diligently and beautifully laid. The broth, OMG. The broth was tremendously rich and absolutely loaded with garlic flavor. As I went ahead and mixed the ramen, the thick rich black garlic oil escaped, coating everything else with its warm full garlic flavor. The pork chashu (I had the DX deluxe option) was so tender and so delicious, I had too look at the menu again making sure it wasn't a smoked brisket. It was that tender. I thoroughly enjoyed my bowl of ramen right to the end. Same goes with the rest of my family. To put it in perspective, Menya Shono stand tall among the like of Ippido, Marafuku, and Ichiran. That's a mighty good company if you asked me. I am absolutely glad that I found Menya Shono. Yes, I would go may way to travel to Union City to have their mighty ramen bowl.

The food was actually pretty good. I think one of the best in the bay from my personal experience. I went during the opening and finally came back and honestly it was good. The one thing I would say is to be proactive with the servers since they're not very attentive. The decoration of the store were actually also really good. I liked the detail they have on the walls about their origins and how they source their food. The main thing they do differently for meat is they have the large pieces of meat with the deluxe I've only seen in japan.

Classic ramen joint in the heart of Union Landing, next to the Century 25 movie theater. My friends and I usually come here after watching a movie if we're craving something hot and reliable. They used to only have QR codes that included tip in their base prices but I think for whatever reason, that's no longer available. Now it's more of a standard ordering process with a menu and a server for each table. Not a huge deal but I did appreciate the old option more, as it seemed more flexible and more authentic to the Japanese tradition of no tipping. I usually go with the black garlic ramen which is plenty flavorful and has a lot of different quality ingredients. I might suggest getting it with the pork instead of chicken if you want more of that classic ramen flavor, but to each their own. Parking is not too bad - even on weekends with a lot more foot traffic you can usually find a spot somewhere within the vicinity. A decent restaurant with good portions.

Menya Shono offers a short menu of ramen and Japanese appetizers, and they pride themselves on their housemade noodles. My pick was the Vegan Tantanmen, a bowl of noodles in a creamy kombu vegetable and roasted sesame broth, topped with "chashu" made from enoki mushroom roots, ground soy "meat," kale, and garnishes including green onion, chive, cilantro, smoked nuts, red ginger, and chili oil. At first, the broth seemed a bit bland, but after a few more bites, the umami, earthy notes came out and paired nicely with the chewy noodles. The most surprising component was the enoki mushroom chashu, which had been grilled to exactly like a slice of pork chashu, but the spongey texture gave away what this "meat" was actually made of!

Great place for a ramen fix in the south East Bay. Small and a little understaffed at times, but with solid food with rich flavors and chewy, perfect ramen noodles. We were a large party on Sunday night but were able to get seated fairly quick at 2 large tables. There was only 1 server for the whole restaurant. He was definitely working hard, but there's only so much 1 person can do. Corn wings (regular and spicy): These are a must-get each time. The spicy seasoning is especially addictive. Enoki chips: These were a miss. I was hoping the enokis would be in bundles and then fried, but they were separated into strands first, which means that all you really taste is batter. It was like eating a salad topping. Nori calamari: Decent. Calamari was slightly tough. Toripaitan "Blaze" Classic: Broth was rich and flavorful. Ramen noodles were thick and had a great chewy texture. Chashu was good, but I really loved the addition of red ginger and fried burdock root. My friends also enjoyed their chintan shio ramen (with thin straight noodles) and tsukemen. In short, not everything on the menu works, but the toripaitan and the corn wings call for a repeat visit.

Food was delicious. Flavorful. Loved the corn appetizer. And the spicy ramen was *chefs kiss* Ambiance was unique and cozy. It's a small space and was busy on Friday night. Service was good too. Not frilly. Genuine.

Came with a colleague to this new spot in Union city. We were sat right away, plenty of seating (outside seating available as well). We ordered the spicy blaze ramen and edamame with chile sauces on the side. Probably waited abt 20 minutes or so to get our food. But the lady who helped us was nice and did her best. I only noticed two workers, the waitress and the cook. I love ramen, this ramen was good and it will for sure fill you up. I didn't find it spicy so i added more chile on it. Overall, I couldn't finish it because it was a lot which is a nice perk to have. I like the inside of the place, it's clean and spacious. All in all, I would recommend this place if you love ramen.

Tried Menya Shono in Union City and left feeling a bit underwhelmed. The broth, which is usually the star of a good ramen, was unfortunately pretty tasteless -- it didn't have the depth or richness we expected. For the price, we were hoping for more flavor and overall balance in the bowl. The portions were small, the service was friendly, but when you go out for ramen you really want the broth to shine, and this one just fell flat. It wasn't a bad experience, but definitely not one we'd go out of our way for again.

I've been coming here since they've opened this location and they have improved a lot. My recommendation is to order their nori calamari and Chintan Shoyu Deluxe. Service is always solid and attentive. A little pricey, but definitely worth checking out for ramen lovers or for a nice treat for a cold day.

Food is Very Very Very good, aswell as the ambience, very cozy with japanese noodle house vibe with cool music backdrop, but the service of the crew is absolutely obscure & seems really really needs a training, been eating here for quite a while now but since then food is great but lowsy service.. hope it changes cz people love this place but since the servic is poor, its getting low rate.

Haven't been to this restaurant in a while. We like their food and service that's why we make it a point to come back. Location is very convenient in Union Landing. Good place to eat in a cold day after watching a movie. The theater is right aacross the restaurant. Restaurant is bright and cozy. The soup is just a little salty this time. Not sure if it's just my pallet but husband agrees. I think I rated them 4 stars last time. They might have a new chef.

Food portion is good. Thin noodle itself was not bad.
    Frank C.

I visited the restaurant on a Wednesday night around 7:30pm. There was only a table of two customers and us. The service was friendly. I order their signature ramen but didn't like it at all. The thin noodle itself was not bad, but the soup was not what I expected, it was as thick as gravy, the stew pork and cha-shu was ok but tastes a little bit sour, not a fresh taste at all. We also order two appetizers, fried corn wings and edamame, both are only mediocre at most. The fried corn wings tastes oily, it's like it was fried in a pot of oil that has been used for a long time. The edamame tastes like frozen food heated up in microwave. Over all I'm disappointed with the taste and quality of the food being served there.

From M-F, 11:30am-2pm (closing) for just $19.90, you get to pick one of the ramen bowls, and one of appetizers that are listed (at half the size). Here's what we got: FRIED OYSTERS (5) - $12 This was not one of the appetizer options to the lunch specials but sis really needed her fried oysters, haha. This comes with a side of creamy sauce that tasted like a yummy potato salad. It was awesome! The fried oysters were very hot to be careful, and it was very much enjoyed even though it scraped the roof of my mouth, haha. TONKOTSU RAMEN - $16.95 Tonkotsu (Pork Broth) chashu pork, green onion, yellow onion, soft boiled egg, fried green onion, kikurage mushroom. I'm happy that we get a WHOLE egg and not just half! Everything about this bowl was so good and creamy! GYOZA (6) - $8 Chicken/Veggie pan fried post stickers. The lunch specials only come with 3 pieces, and I'm always happy when your savory finger food comes with a dip! No complaints here! KARAAAGE (6) - $10 Fried Boneless Chicken. The lunch specials only come with 3 pieces, but they are huge! Juicy dark meat pieces, with a nice creamy srirarcha dipping sauce! Also hot, so be careful! It just means it's fresh! They have a back room that was nice and quiet. You can smell the fresh clean laundry from the laundromat next door, haha. The service was great, and everyone was so nice and attentive. We enjoyed ourselves very much, and was happily full with leftovers to snack on later!

If it's your first time trying ramen and don't want to go too crazy, you can try this. It is very delicious, but if you've had regular tonkotsu ramen before, I highly recommend trying the Kuro or Aka! 5/5 - Kuro Tonkotsu Ramen - The black garlic oil really enhances the tonkotsu flavor in a smoky, umami way. If you haven't tried a black garlic oil broth, I highly recommend you try it here! You will not be disappointed. 5/5 - Aka Tonkotsu Ramen - My personal favorite of the ramen bowls we all tried here. The spicy level can be adjusted and was exactly the spice level we thought it would be (we chose Level 2). The flavor is a bit more elevated than the regular tonkotsu ramen, likely from the spice that you should not find too overwhelming. 5/5 - Chashu Don (Appetizer) - The rice and chashu makes this its own little meal and is super savory and filling...as an appetizer! This is great to share with your party, and it seems to taste differently from the chashu you get in your ramen. You won't regret trying this! 5/5 - Chicken Karaage (Appetizer) - The chicken in this dish was very juicy, and the portions were huge! The sauce they give also compliments this well. You won't be disappointed with choosing this for an appetizer.

Their portions are bigger than I expected, worth it! This is a fun spot to hangout with friends to grab a bite to eat and to watch a spots game or listen to and watch some Kpop MVs. The service is friendly and attentive, I came on a weekend lunch - dine in wasn't too busy, lucky me but I definitely noticed a lot of to go orders. Parking is easy because they're in a plaza, so no stress there.

Parking is easy since it is inside of a plaza. The vibes are chill and the workers were quick and efficient. You order your food sort of like dim sum style where they give you a piece of paper to fill out how many of each item you want, etc. Besides their $1 oysters, we got their chow mein, karaage, chicken heart skewers, and their pork belly skewers. Everything was decently good, but we just enjoyed the overall ambience over some yum snacks and good drinks. They were also playing old kpop music which was a plus! We will definitely be back!

One of my favorite if not my FAVORITE place for Chinese noodles! They have everything from Lanzhou…read morelamian to Youpo mian to Liangpi! The cuisine is more western China focused with the Chinese hamburger (肉夹馍) and big plate chicken (大盘鸡). Parking is ample in the plaza, and service is very fast. You can see the kitchen and its workflows from the outside, sort of like what you see at Marugame. Spoiler alert, the noodles really are handpulled and the kitchen is very clean! I ordered a Lanzhou Beef noodle soup and Chili Oil noodle. The broth in the Lanzhou noodle was very savory and perfectly seasoned. They also respected my comment for mild spicy, and it was one of the only times I drank almost all the soup since I did not taste artificial powders or too much white pepper. The Chili Oil noodle was also ordered with mild spice, and the noodles were so chewy and perfect, I can't wait to come back here already! We just wished the chili oil noodle had more meats, since there were like only a 2 or 3 slices of beef. Otherwise, portion sizes were also big for the price point, and the quality was beyond my expectations. Since it was our first time here, we were a little cautious and just ordered what we needed. But next time I'll definitely try the big plate chicken and pig ears!

There seems to have some menu change since the last time we came. We ordered 2 dry noodles and a cold spicy pig ears appetizer. The pig ears were piled up with no fillers - something hard to find these days. You can select the type of noodles so I picked the widest while my husband picked the middle one. I love the el dente texture of the noodles giving it a bit of chew. My braised pork belly dry noodles was not dry... very watery which was not to my liking. I want my dry noodles with as little gravy as possible. The flavor was light despite all the gravy, but the veggies and one egg made it up. The house special dry noodles had just the right amount of gravy for taste but not enough ingredients. I was wondering why the restaurant is called One Piece... I guess the entire bowl of noodles is one piece noodle as it was hard to eat as all the noodles are tangled. No complaints here just need to be careful with the splashes on your shirt. Overall the food was good, service was decent as we were offered actual menu instead of only using QR code to order. The place was not small with plenty of table. A bit noise as with all Chinese restaurants.
