So I'm over here trying to figure what to eat right and I pull up to this joint. It's a nice, cozy, very welcoming ramen spot. Upon my arrival the kind host greeted me immediately and allowed me to take a seat. I was unsure of what to order and I had asked the host what to get and he positioned for me to try the coconut miso ramen and lemme tell you it was honestly one of the best bowls of ramen I've had. The broth was incredibly rich and velvety, with the coconut adding a subtle natural sweetness that complemented the deep umami of the miso instead of overpowering it. It created a balanced, layered flavor that was both comforting and surprisingly refined. Every spoonful had depth, and the broth was so good that I found myself wanting to finish every last drop. The noodles had an excellent texture, firm with just the right amount of chew--allowing them to hold onto the broth beautifully. The toppings were fresh, thoughtfully prepared, and blended seamlessly with the overall dish, adding texture and flavor without distracting from the star of the bowl. What impressed me most was how harmonious everything tasted. Fusion flavors can sometimes feel forced, but this ramen was exceptionally well executed. The coconut and miso worked together to create something unique while still respecting the traditional character of ramen. If you're looking for a bowl that's comforting, flavorful, and a little different from the usual tonkotsu or shoyu, I can't recommend the Coconut Miso Ramen at Tadamasa highly enough. Only have a couple of tables inside. They usually aren't very busy so we usually find a seat when we go. I usually order the black garlic ramen when I visit. I am usually the type to always order 1 thing if I like it. Too scared of not liking something if I try something else lol. This bowl always hits the spot. Flavorful broth, salty and fatty, noodles has a good chew to them, good chashu, and simple but good toppings. The dead giveaways are the hand written sign of "Xiao Long Bao available" on the wall. It has been remodeled inside but with an eye of early 2000 look. We decided to give it a try anyways. We were one of two tables currently in the restaurant on a Friday night. Tan Tan Spicy Pork Belly Ramen - 1/5: The broth lacked in flavor depth that you expect from a good ramen spot. The pork belly was tough and dry, which I have never experienced with such a fatty piece of meat. Probably the first time in my life that I have not eaten all my meat. Noodles and the egg were fine, but that was it. Chicken katsu ramen 2/5: the chicken katsu was good, broth also lacked in flavor. It tasted very close to a cup o noodle instant broth. Noodles and egg were fine. Service was good mostly because we were the only ones in the restaurant for half of our dinner. Overall, I do not need to come back. Came with a party of three at opening on a Monday evening. Decor was somewhat reminiscent of Grandma's house, with clear plastic sheets lining each table. The restaurant was empty besides 1 other customer and staffed with 1 server, and our food took about 15 minutes to come out. Chicken Katsu Curry Ramen: only got this because I was curious, but at one of the highest price points on the menu, I expected more than what seemed like watered-down Golden Curry broth and a smattering of diced carrots and potatoes. Points for the fry on the katsu and chew on the noodles, but this was a real downer for me. Coconut Miso Ramen: novelty of the heavily sweet coconut broth lasted about three spoonfuls. Shrimp was fried well and one of the more notable parts of the entire meal. Tonkotsu Ramen: probably the best item of the night. Broth was sufficiently savory and pork had great tenderness and char. Tucked away on a small strip mall. Small cozy restaurant, relatively clean. My daughter and I sat at one of their tables. Water and menu promptly given. We ordered the takoyaki, black garlic oil ramen and the cherry chicken rice. The takoyaki came out first and it was delicious. Crunchy outer layer and inside had a small piece of octopus in it. My curry chicken rice came out next and it was super flavorful. All the veggies were cut to the same size. It was very aromatic and had a nice kick to the curry. It was unique and had a little bit of sweetness to it. I would skip the tan tan and the black garlic ramen. It was wayyy too salty (and I love salty things) but I could barely finish the broth. Definitely a hidden gem. My MIL had a craving for ramen and hadn't been here in a long time so she decided to have a girls day with me. I live just around the corner from here and had never seen it. This "whole in the wall" restaurant is hiding next to VCA behind Safeway on Decoto and Alvarado-Niles. It's a very small place but even close to closing time you still get great service. We arrive and my MIL knew exactly what she wanted, we ordered and it took a while to get but this was only because it is made FRESH every time. We had the Gyoza as an appetizer and the Curry chicken and Coconut Miso Ramen. Gyoza 9/10 loved the sauce with it too. Curry Chicken over ramen 8/10. Chicken was crispy with thin breading. The broth was great and everything was nice and fresh when it came out My MIL had the Coconut Miso soup 10/10. She loved it as much as she did before but it was so much she couldn't finish it all. Minimum amount required etc. I was hungry and still wanted to give them a chance. I got the black garlic ramen on a cold rainy day and added pork belly which was completely unnecessary since it already had plenty of pork. My soup was super salty and it might've been my fault with the extra pork and not keeping the spinach to offset it. I also ordered some dumplings to take home for later and those were yummy. They crank out some amazing ramen and also, some great gyoza appetizers too. The broths are flavorful, plentiful ramen options, and extremely kind and attentive service. The is a best kept local secret for sure. This establishment is worth coming to and discovering for yourself. It's just great. Im suprised they havent made it on a 'best of Union City' list. I'm generally an easy-going guy and don't usually post reviews but, this was definitely a first. For context, I ordered a rice bowl, and my girlfriend ordered a Chicken ramen dish. While the food was decent, service was non-existent. I decided to NOT leave a tip this time specifically because we were the only people at the restaurant, and the only interaction we had with the staff was when they took our order and delivered our food. It was pretty much the same service to be received at a local McDonalds. For example, we had to wave them down for a refill on water, etc... So, I decided to not tip. When we left the restaurant, a woman, the cook, flagged us down waving the receipt, creating a scene as if we dined and dashed, demanding us to leave a tip. When I responded with "I'm sorry, I don't think you did anything additional to earn the tip, and we were the only ones there." She responded with: "So? It is American Culture to tip!" She being extremely aggressive signaled to my girlfriend to whisper to me to just give her a 10% tip to basically just make her go away and avoid further escalation, and so, I went ahead and asked for the receipt. After signing over the tip, I said to the woman, "It's not cultural or appropriate to demand a tip." Her response was a very immature and juvenile shrugging of her shoulders, and she walked away back to the restaurant claiming victory over ~ 5$. Imagine treating your patrons decently to where they return often, building a relationship, and then to be earning progressively larger tips. Now, I will never dine there again. read more

Tadamasa is a ramen restaurant that gives good, cozy vibes that goes well with tasty comfort food. I've been a regular since before the pandemic, and it was a constant favorite as a group of friends to go to. Tadamasa has the standard selections of ramen - shoyu, miso, and tonkotsu, but also has a few fusiony twists ones, which, admittedly, I have not tried. Personally, I almost always go for the black garlic oil ramen - it is rich and flavorful without being over the top, with thicker noodles that have a good firmness to them. I also think the egg is done just right as well - almost runny, but not quite. Especially on the chillier nights, this is a great place to go for a bowl of ramen. Only half of us were able to finish and the other half had plenty left over to to-go (50 cent charge per take out container).
