You can probably tell from my photos, all my favorite picks from here. Ordered to go all the time from and haven't had anything bad yet. The service here is great and my to go orders are always ready when I arrive to pick up no matter how big the orders are. Egg Flower Soup is very flavorful and tasty. Salt and Pepper Fish Filet is always fried to perfection, and the flavor is always consistent. Beef Chow Fun is good with a little wok burned which is what makes the chow fun good. Beef is tender. This is my favorite dish Bitter Melon with Beef sauteed with onions and fermented black beans, the beef is very tender always. Wor Wonton Soup is good and I always ordered with a side of ho fun. It's one of my favorites Chinese food in the Bay Area. The food is always fresh and delicious and it's always consistent great costumer service. I have been a regular customer for over 10 years. before I found about them after I get sick few times by eating from other restaurants. But JL Kitchen it's have been the best food place. read more

I owe JL and updated review. It's been more than a decade ago and things have changed a lot including an updated menu and of course pricing. In spite of inflation, their prices are still very reasonable especially the lunch specials. Taste and quality have improved dramatically for a joint like this. Inside the dine in options are limited -- just a few small tables usually 1 or 2 people in a rush. Most of us take to go. Which is fine by me, cos it's good portions, the guy at the counter is super nice, and price and taste are good enough especially for lunch. Love it! read more

My favorite place to get Wor Wonton Soup! Very flavorful and packed with meat. You can order over the phone or walk in and either way I am always satisfied. I have also had them cater my baby shower in the past. It is a small Mom and Pop kind of place. read more

This was the first time we have been there and most likely the last time. We ordered fried rice, absolutely no flavor to it at all. We ordered orange chicken, way over cooked and no taste. Mongolian beef, there were maybe 4 pieces of beef, mostly a container full of onions. Egg rolls were just mush inside. Honey walnut shrimp was just awful. Even the fortune cookies were tasteless and a weird color. We paid $88.00 for all this terrible food!!! Do yourself a favor and just go to Panda Express...... read more

The experience today was horrible. I wish I could say the food was good; we wouldn't know as it was never delivered. We ordered from the JL Kitchen website and were unaware that they use a company called BeyondMenu to deliver. The company , BeyondMenu, contracted a driver who did not deliver. The 7+ phone calls between us, JL Kitchen and BeyondMenu was unnecessary. I honestly believe JL Kitchen made the food but somewhere along the way it got lost and our office lost 3 hours of time trying to sort this out plus trying to figure out how to feed 20 people who were just waiting for an order that never arrived. We ended up cancelling the order, getting a refund and going to a different vendor last minute to be able to feed our team. I will not be ordering from JL Kitchen or use BeyondMenu as a delivery service ever again. read more

I finished one project, had a half-hour to kill before my next project and I was hungry. I thought a quick fix at JL Kitchen would cure my hunger pangs. There was space in the parking lot. I was the only customer inside. When I stepped in, the gentleman asked if I was Anthony. I told him no, though now I wonder what Anthony had ordered (wink, wink!). I ordered Seafood Chow Fun to go, paid and was told that it would be a five-minute wait. I sat and worked on my phone until my order came out. I drove to a nearby park to eat. My bag contained my food, two napkins, a fork, soy sauce and some chili oil. I ate 1/2 the container and found two shrimp, two pieces of fish and three pieces of calamari. I'll finish the other half tomorrow. Overall, the food was hot and reasonably flavorful. I usually request a packet of hot mustard but forgot to do so. JL is decent for a quick meal from a local neighborhood Chinese restaurant. I would come back for another meal, but I would not bring my parents here for a more formal meal. read more

Surprisingly Great Chinese Food! J L Kitchen may not win any design awards--it's in an older building, pretty small inside, and definitely has that old-school, no-frills vibe. But let me tell you, the food more than makes up for it. The lo mein was the standout--perfectly cooked noodles, not drowning in sauce, and packed with flavor. You can tell they know what they're doing in that kitchen. Portions were generous, prices were fair, and everything came out hot and fresh. Why not 5 stars? Mainly the atmosphere--it's not really a place you'd take someone for a fancy night out. But if you're looking for a reliable, tasty Chinese food fix, this place hits the spot. Chicken dishes; "With string beans; Szechuan, mushroom chicken? All good." Beef? I've lived in San Leandro for 14 years, This was my first time ordering from JL Kitchen. This evening on the way home I decided to grab some take out on the way home and didn't feel like eating at 7-11. Pulled up into the little customer lot, walked up to the counter and with my excellent Cantonese movie star speaking voice ordered Black Bean Beef Chow Fun, Garlic Chicken Bok Choy & Shrimp Fried Rice. Man! I tell you! The Chow Fun was HELLA good! Growing up in Oakland Chinatown, you don't eat Chow Fun that suck! The Chicken & Bok Choy was pretty tasty! I'm not a huge fan of Fried Rice, but this one gets a solid 8 outta 10 in my book! Will definitely be back! read more

First time eating inside - Ambiance is lovely, service excellent and food 5 star. Both our meals were perfectly seasoned (we each had something different plus an appetizer and Vietnamese coffee. I ordered salt and pepper squid with chow mein, and the price and food quality was pretty good. However, I did find a small piece of metal at the bottom of my plate which almost cracked my tooth. The egg flower soup was incredible! Usually I like to add something to soups from restaurants but J L Kitchen made it so flavorful.

I ordered online based on GH reviews. J L Kitchen had everything prepared and ready for pick up at the suggested time. This was not the best Chinese food I've had in San Leandro and could have been better. I do have to say that portions are sizable and a bang for your buck. Order: -Orange chicken: This was a huge miss for me unfortunately. The chicken tasted like it had been pre-fried and refried for my order. The breading was soggy and far too thick. There was more breading than chicken. The sauce had a hinge of orange flavor. -House pan fried noodles: This was good compared to the orange chicken. Definitely not the best that I've had, but decent. The gravy and sauce came in a separate container to be poured on top of the fried noodles. It came with a decent amount of meat and veggies. The sauce was also good. Overall, this would not be my go-to, but happy to try another Chinese food place in SL. read more

We have ordered from J&L for years. It was a great run- 1. Until they stopped delivery and allowed the "Beyond Menu" and the "Grubhub" people to deliver orders, adding on an additional 9+ dollars for fees and service charges along with "suggested" tips to 20%; this led to 2. The deletion of the best menu choices ever offered by a local Chinese Restaurant, ever. We now choose from a "hangar-on-the-door" type of menu. This restaurant was never like this, at all. In the end, 3. The Delivery Service from this restaurant has lost it's personal touch (We used to know the delivery person), for some reason cost can cost up to $20.00 more for nothing. Indeed. Take a moment and eat out, or search for those restaurants that still maintain a personal identity with their services. read more

I've only gotten their curry chicken without garlic with fried rice. I always enjoy it. My mom who is one of the pickiest people I know when it comes to Chinese Food, actually liked it too. They are accommodating with all of my food allergy requests and very courteous. I've gotten food to go twice and ordered catering orders for work. They cook the food very fast and it's hot. My co-worker and I just order a bunch of dishes and grub out at work- our favorites are the Singapore-style rice noodles (combination meat!), egg rolls, and vegetable fried rice. The food is ok but while my friend was paying for HER food, her international card kept getting declined. The chef in Cantonese said I shouldn't be dating if I couldn't pay and was calling me poor. I asked the chef to be more polite to the customers while I paid the owner in cash. They called me poor after my friend's cards kept getting declined. Their customer service for a takeout place doesn't need to be much but at least don't be rude against people of your own language. read more
