Having just retired, I stopped by Peking Garden to have an early dinner. When I was working, this was my go-to place for grabbing takeout on the way home. On a Tuesday, I was in the area and decided to have a nice dine-in meal here. I ordered: - Wor Won Ton Soup, Medium - Eggrolls The food was absolutely delicious, hot and fresh from the kitchen. The Wor Won Ton Soup had a rich and savory broth. Lots of plump dumplings. The beef and chicken were chopped into bite sized pieces. Along with the shrimp and veggies, everything was easy to eat. The eggrolls were crispy and crunchy, not mushy. This restaurant has an open kitchen, you can see it from your table. My server waited by the counter for the food to come out, then brought it to my table. Prompt service. My husband loves this place! Peking Garden is a solid choice to add to your dinner rotation if you're local if everyone is too tired to make dinner. It's no nonsense, tasty Chinese food with reasonable service. Our go tos; Won ton soup: simple but tasty. Plenty of won tons! Mongolian beef: savory and the beef is tender. My spice tolerance is mild to moderate and this is pretty tasty to me. Honey walnut shrimp: my fav! Solid portion and the shrimp are large. I like how there's a slight crunch to it. I love how much sauce is on it too. They have room to accommodate large groups so I see them big families here especially on the weekends after church. We'll be coming back for sure. read more

It was a coworker bday and the place I was gonna order from was closed so I ordered from here for delivery. Order wonton soup, egg rolls, chicken fried rice and chicken chow fun. I will say the portions are generous but the food is definitely made for the non Chinese palate. The soup was lacking in flavor and some of the wontons were stuck together giving a gummy texture. The chicken, what little pieces there were seemed barely cooked and the spinach looked suspiciously like it was going. My coworker said the fried rice was way too salty. My chow fun was too greasy. We ordered The Peking dinner which was $21.95 per person. The food was decent, won ton soup was excellent, service ok had to wait a while to get to go containers and check. Noticed the check already gad added for a bag of $.25 and automatically added a tip of 15%! but not in english!! Then had amounts for added tip. I asked the waitress what it was for and she hesitated with an answer. Then they give you your receipt which is not itemized and so I had to go back in and ask for an itemized receipt. Today I was craving some Peking duck so I decided to give this place a try. The service was nice and attentive but I couldn't help but notice that there was barely anyone in the restaurant on a late Saturday afternoon which seemed sort of odd. This place is close by where I live and I had ordered Peking duck here before and it was great. But unfortunately it wasn't up to par at all this time. Solid 3 stars. I have lived in San Lorenzo most my life and I have always seen this place but never went. I finally tried it a few weeks ago with my boyfriend and I was happily surprised it was good. We got the fried won tons, the crispy duck, lemon chicken and the bbq pork chow fun. The fried wontons were really just that. Slightly disappointed because I remember as a kid we had fried wontons with a filling and I have yet to find a restaurant that does it. Pretty pricey for fried wrappers though. The crispy duck with the steamed buns was amazing. I would be a happy camper with just ordering this. Duck was really tender and delicious. Lemon chicken was basic lemon chicken, nothing to write home about but still tasted good. Same with the chow fun, the bbq was really good. Moist and flavorful. Overall great food experience. Located in a business plaza. They have their own lot so parking is not an issue and the area is not too busy. Interior reminds me of out dated buffet style booths. Feels sort of eerie inside because there's no music playing to fill the room. Pricing is okay for sit down dining for Chinese food. If you're going to get basic staples you can get at fast food Chinese food places, then just go to those places instead. But good if you want their other selections. We came here on a Friday night and the restaurant was pretty full with a steady stream of people coming in and out alongside to-go orders. Kind of felt bad for the two cooks who were making orders non-stop. We ordered the sesame chicken, Happy Family, and wontons in schezuan sauce. The food came out promptly like within 5-10 minutes, though the waiters seemed busy and took awhile to come and take our orders. The sesame chicken was super crispy and seasoned well, generous portions. The Happy Family was also crisp in terms of vegetables and the meat seasoned well. Though it's misleading it was under seafood since it was made with a combination of meat - including chicken and beef and only had a little bit of seafood. The worst dish was the wontons in schezuan sauce. We thought it was just the wontons because we couldn't taste what was inside but it looked like some sort of ground meat. It didn't have much flavor and the wonton wrapper was pretty thick. Wouldn't get that again. But overall the service was good and the restaurant was clean. It was on the pricier side though, coming out to almost $60 with tip. So it is a pricier meal. Receipt was in Chinese and I felt like we were charged over what we should have been but we did not know what they were charging us for. WORST SERVICE EVER!!! I placed my order online at 8:39 PM for pickup at 9:05 PM. I arrived at the restaurant, which was empty, at 9:00 PM, and the two employees were shocked to find there was an online order. One of the employees checked the order, printed it out, and gave it to the cook, but didn't say a word--no apology or indication that I needed to wait a few minutes. When I asked what happened, she blamed the machine for not printing the order. I wouldn't have minded waiting, but both employees, one of whom I presume was the owner, did not communicate anything. They just casually returned to whatever they were doing. Do they even understand the concept of customer service is? I was shocked to see I was charge $3.95 for packaging fee, $0.25 for bag fee and guess what, no utensils, no sauce and the assorted HongKong style noodles was very salty. My family has been coming here for over 25yrs, but now we will not be returning. I do not recommend anyone coming here, and would give them negative stars if possible. While the food has been decent and pricing okay, every time we come they have done something or another wrong with our bill where it comes out $2-3 more than what it should be. We just ask for the itemized receipt and it's all fine after that for the most part. However today, they tried to overcharge us by almost $10. We ordered the medium wonton soup ($14.95), black bean sauce chicken sizzling platter ($16.95), and rice ($3). The bill should have been about $39-40 with tax. They ended up giving us a hand written bill of $48, and when we asked for the itemized receipt it showed the chicken for $17.95, $2.25 for tea we did not order, and a 15% service charge. We told them we got the wrong receipt, but they said no it was right and they had to charge 15% service charge/tip even though we were only a party of 3. They also said they charged a dollar extra because they served us white meat chicken which is extra charge, but there was nothing on this on the menu nor did they tell us. They then took off the tea, making the bill about $44, and can see it scratched out on the originally hand written bill. Can also see there's only 2 items written in Chinese characters. The woman literally fought with us over the bill, saying service charge is required when I told her that charging service is only for parties over 6-8, and it needs to posted somewhere or at least on the menu. She continued arguing, saying she'll do us a favor at the end to charge us the right amount??? The bill she gave us at the end was about $37, but the fact that she came down to that proves she knew what she was doing was wrong. You shouldn't have to argue with them to be charged the right amount based on what you ordered. This was such an insulting visit. We left without leaving a tip, and we like supporting our local businesses but this one we cannot anymore. There are a lot more Chinese restaurants in the area that have better service and food, and don't try to cheat the customer like this. I was attended immediately in offer the menu. The soup and itself is plentiful as I ordered a small and it's definitely a very good size for at least two people. The soup was delicious and fresh. The broth is definitely a delicious part of the soup and the multiple meats added offers is a delight. Not only brings many pieces of shrimp and work and pieces of chicken and wonton, but also veggies, which is well done. I wasn't very hungry, so I only ordered this but I look forward to coming back and ordering another of the specialty plates. The ambient singer is very quiet mellow with nice soft music, playing in the background and not too busy so it feels comfortable to come in family or individual. I really don't like to give bad reviews but this time Peking Garden was totally disappointing. Expensive and low quality. I ordered the Sizzling Rice soup and it was actually embarrassing because I was bringing it to someone that was ill. Anyway, the soup had about 6 peas, a couple of slivers of carrot and some gnarly, scant pieces of chicken. The Chicken Salad was also displeasing with some shredded iceberg lettuce and chicken that was fried but mostly consisted of breading. I will not return but will go back to my favorite Chinese restaurant in San Lorenzo, Hunan Wok. Many times here, but the most recent experience just really angered me. First of all, it really irks me when they have a huge sign that says the minimum charge for using a card is $30. Please someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought a business couldn't have a minimum amount when accepting cards. I ordered three items. A rice plate, salt and pepper chicken wings and some egg rolls. I spent a little over $50 for lunch. I was by myself. When it came time to leave, I wanted to take some of my food with me. I specifically asked for three boxes. I got two and one little bag, for the egg rolls. My very brusque waitress said they use bags for the egg rolls because they're oily. In my mind, that's why I specifically wanted a damned box precisely because they are oil. I didn't want the oil to seep through the bag. After a little bit of back and forth, which was completely unnecessary and really, which I was also very aghast about, she relented and gave me a tiny box. I was done. I went to the counter to pay and I expressed my displeasure to her. She was also manning the counter and the phones. I told her I was very angry and couldn't understand why she had to argue with me about the box. She said, I still gave you what you wanted. Lord, this woman kept being combative! I said, I will not be leaving you a tip. She said, with nonchalance, "That's fine!" I will not be back. I was stupid to have come back anyway. I just wanted a quick lunch. read more

I arguably speak that they have the BEST Sesame Chicken in the area! My friend's family was the one that opened my eyes to this strip-mall establishment for Chinese food in the San Lorenzo Village neighborhood - and ever since they've moved away, they manage to come back to dine in pleasure when they're in town! Lunch Specials were and is STILL reasonable & affordable with generous portions. I always admired their cozy and inviting atmosphere, along with a friendly staff that's ready to seat you, take your orders, and bring you waters - right off the bat! Your choice of entree comes along with either steamed rice, fried rice, and/or chow mein - their soup of the day (I've had Minced Chicken with Corn AND Hot & Sour - both VERY, VERY DELICIOUS and HEART-WARMING!) and a fried wonton. At the end of your meal, they do bring your bill - but with fortune cookies and fresh orange slices. No complaints here! There's nothing fancy about this place - it's a bit of a hole in a wall - but the family-friendly environment is what keeps regulars coming back & continuing to patronize this place. I also admire their Dry Wok cooking style, that can be implemented at all, if not, most of their dishes - meaning that they don't add any oil to their cooking. If I could give zero stars I would. I went in to order duck for the first time for my mother. I ordered peking duck instead of roasted duck, not knowing the difference. As I was waiting for the order my mother told me not to order the Peking duck she did not care for it all. First the host told me it was the same type of duck, my mother was on speaker and said "no it's not" I like the duck with the bone in. The host then says "I can just go get you some bones" How would you feel? Long story short, she called the owner and of course spoke in another language. He said we could not order the correct duck without paying again, mind you I never received the order, never left the store with an order. I then told them I would just take the won ton soup. They were also not willing to refund the duck on the order. So beware, get your order right the first time, because they WILL NOT accommodate any mistakes.
