I got takeout from Ramen Bar like a year ago and the food was so good I scarfed it down before I could take a pic...so now here's a 2nd attempt of my review LOL! The restaurant has a very cute, trendy vibe with an intimate dining room. Btw, parking can be a challenge but if you luck up & get a parking spot directly outside the restaurant on Lancaster Avenue, it's free. The ramen...WOW! I had every intention of taking some home but nope...ate every last bit there! As a pescaterian, majority of the ramen dishes had pork broth BUT there was about 3-4 chicken/vegetable/shrimp ramen bowls. Since I had the Vegetable Miso Ramen on my 1st visit (highly recommend!), I tried the Green Curry Ramen and this dish too measured up! There's a full bar and I definitely want to return to try their sushi which I hear is great too. Ishmael took great care of us at the bar! The only reason I'm giving Ramen Bar a 4 instead of 5 stars is because I asked for a little hot sauce to add to my ramen and the young lady gave me Bakudan which was delish but an additional $3 and didn't even advise beforehand (total pet peeve of mine)! I never heard of an additional charge for hot sauce and even so, generally a condiment charge is only $1-2; $3 is pretty steep. But go figures because if you add shrimp to the Vegetable Miso Ramen it's an additional $7. I guess they don't care about making things reasonable even though the restaurant is located on Drexel's campus. Also it would be nice if Ramen Bar's Happy Hour pricing returned like it had pre-pandemic (the HH menu is still on the restaurant's IG page).

Right in the heart of Drexel and University college., serving all the college student. Because if you don't live around the area, parking is a nightmare, but what's worst then the parking is the Service., oh man you be waiting and waiting and waiting . I had to get up a few time to look for a waiter. When your food is out, you won't see any server after. It's like a Disappearing act. Good news the ramen was hella good. I mean almost worth the service good. yakitori skewer is worst then the service. And how can you hate on fried ice cream. Would I come back, prolly for the ramen. Ramen bar is like an ex girlfriend that have Always treat you like trash neglected you emotionally and physically. But the sex is amazing. So you can't help but come and get Punish.

    Takoyaki

I used to go to the ramen bar at 40th & locust a lot, but unfortunately it got closed down :( I finally came here a few days ago because the weather was really cold and I miss the taste of ramen bar My friend and I shared a serving of takoyaki and each got a tonkatsu chashumen. The takoyaki was very flavorful and tasty! There were bits and pieces of the octopus you could taste and spot in the takoyaki itself. The ramen itself was pretty good, but not amazing. I personally like the wavy noodles a lot more than the straight noodles, because they seem chewy-er and thicker. The soup was mediocre but not too amazing. It definitely is a nice place to get hot soup on a cold day, but I wouldn't come back for any other reason :(

Chashu-Don Bowl (all burnt on the bottom of the meat)
    Claire Y.

Came here multiple times since it is conveniently located near the school. usually I would order ramen, today, I tried the Chashu--don bowl. Very disappointed with the chashu-don. Half of the pork are all burnt, and they didn't drizzle any sauce inside the rice, so rice is very plain. And sauce is slightly burnt as well. The purple pickled vegetable on the top taste too sour and weird to me. I would NOT recommend ordering the bowl. Their ramen is not bad, average taste. Love their Takoyaki, many toppings and sauce on the top. Very disappointed with their service. They only have one server for the whole restaurant around lunch time, and server ignored to bring the food over to me once it's cooked, but went to welcome new customers, print out checks for others. I had to wait almost 10 mins seeing my food just sitting on the counter before they bring it to my table.

Kara Kara tonkatsu ramen with added charsu and egg.
    Amanda U.

I have had my fair share of ramen. I loveeeee ramen, more than the average Asian does (and that is a lot). The parking here wasn't too bad- and it's a Friday night at dinner time. The waiter wasn't exceptional but he also wasn't horrible either. We ordered the R.P Burger.. and it was pretty good. We also got the takoyaki- 2 pieces of octopus. Not bad. I got the kara kara tonkatsu ramen because I wanted something with a kick. And it was pretty good. It didn't come with much. So I added charsu and an egg. Other than that, all that was in it was the noodles, maybe a TEASPOON of spicy beef, 2 bamboo shoots and a little red ginger. Kinda was disappointed with the amount of stuff that was in the bowl. I added an egg and a charsu. And still, it looked like a very sad ramen. But tasted pretty decent. The charsu wasn't as tender as terakawa's, sadly.. The one upside about this place was there wasn't a Terrible wait AND they have pretty good music :)

Mushrooms I removed from my ramen (which I asked to be omitted)

As a Ramen aficionado, I made a point to stop into Ramen Bar. There was a 45 minute wait so I made the choice to get my food to go. I ordered a miso soup, agadashi tofu and a vegetable ramen with chashu and egg. I will have to say all three we hot, amazing tasting and delicious. I was impressed. I returned two days later to order the same take out items, This time the ramen was unimpressive, and they put mushrooms in the ramen which I specifically asked to omit. I might try again before leaving town, but as of right now I am on the fence about spending money there again.

Chashu steamed buns - $7 Tom yum spicy ramen - $12 Was really craving ramen, but had a flight out in a couple hours so did not want to get stuck in downtown Philly. Decided to enjoy the campus and then eat as well. Enjoyed the atmosphere and the younger crowd. The service was okay. I believe the owner was our main server. He did everything we asked, but he did not seem to like being there, he did not smile once. He actually was obviously unhappy as he was stern and quick to just serve than move on. The customer service aspect and personable aspect was lacking from him. Maybe, I am over judging, but he made us feel very awkward asking him for extra water or even asking for where the restrooms were. Just not a friendly vibe from him. The food was subpar. It was interesting because it really was a mix between the tom yum instant noodles packages that I ate as a child that was slightly elevated. The condiments were all deliciously made and tender. Many were fermented or soaked in special sauces that added to the overall spoon. I enjoyed the bowl, but because of price, portion, and this one server I gave 3 stars. The ramen was fairly priced, but the appetizers were a bit absurd... 2 steamed buns for $7?! They were not even that great, the meat in the buns were not tender and I had to chew and by doing so stuck in my teeth. There needs to be a reconstruction of that dish. Hard to find parking and semi hard to find the actual place. The sign is easy to miss and if just walking by, you might miss the venue all together. If possible, I would recommend walking here. Happy eating.

    Tonkotsu Chashumen with boiled egg
    Allison T.

Went here with a friend at around 5pm on a Sunday. It was not crowded so we were seated immediately and our food was out in 10 min or less. I had ordered the Tonkotsu Chashumen with one marinated boiled egg. When I got the ramen, I was given a boiled egg but I do not believe it was marinated. Since the egg is one of my favorite parts of ramen, I was slightly disappointed. The noodles and broth were tasty and the egg did add a little something, but nothing out of this world. The appeal of this location is that it is on University City campus, where there are not many ramen locations. It was $14 (since there was 3 slices of pork) plus extra for the egg, so it's a bit on the pricer side, especially since most places I've been include the egg in the ramen for no extra charge. Although there are plenty of tables and seats, they are not spaced out super well, so I would recommend using the bathroom before you sit down. Luckily no one was seated at the tables next to us until the very end. Overall it satisfied my craving and would love to come back to explore more of their menu!

Gyoza -- Pan-fried chicken and pork dumplings

My son is a ramen addict! He would probably eat it everyday if I let him. When I heard there was an actual restaurant that served Ramen, I was excited. Him not so much. I took him and my younger cousin (she's his age) out for an early dinner. The atmosphere was very nice. We arrived at exactly 4:30pm, so there wasn't much of a crowd. There were probably five or six other diners. Our waiter, Anthony, was super nice. He made great suggestions as to what to eat. My cousin ordered the Kara Kara Tonkutso Ramen. It has a spicy kick to it. She really enjoyed it. My son ordered the Chicken Miso Ramen and he explicitly stated he wanted noodles and chicken, nothing else. I ordered the Chicken Miso Ramen as it originally comes, but I also ordered the Gyoza and Shumai as appetizers. Everything was super delicious. My son and cousin thought the Gyoza and Shumai were tasty as they attempted their first use of chopsticks. Pretty funny!!! The dipping sauces were not too salty and added additional flavor. My Chicken Miso Ramen was delicious! When I saw the huge bowl, I thought there was no way I'd finish it. I did. The unique group of ingredients made this dish extremely tasty. It almost was like a lemon taste to it. Not too salty either. My drink was a Sake Margarita, which in my opinion tasted just like beer. I'm not a beer drinker, so it was hard for me to drink completely. For dessert we had the Fried Ice Cream. We ate that so quickly. I'm sure the other diners were looking at us as if we had never been to a restaurant before. Very tasty! We agreed that we would definitely return in the future!!

Agedashi tofu: fried tofu in a light sauce, topped with scallion and dashi flakes
    Patrick D.

Was randomly craving soup on a Wednesday night and I live literally across the street from this place, so I decided to finally venture here for dinner. For a weekday the place was pretty busy, but service was still friendly and reasonably quick. My girlfriend and I split the agedashi tofu appetizer, and for our entrees got the chicken miso ramen and tonkotsu ramen. The tofu was pretty tasty, lightly fried on the outside and swimming in a light soy-based sauce with tons of dashi flakes adding umami flavor. The ramen was serviceable but a bit less impressive. My tonkotsu (milky pork bone broth) ramen had the right amount of chashu pork and veggie toppings, and the broth was tasty but could've had a bit more of the pork savoriness to it. Overall, I'm not in any rush to come back but wouldn't mind eating here again if the mood strikes. The restaurant does have a sizable sushi menu, which may be worth trying. Also, their happy hour includes cheap beers as well as reduced price appetizers, which I might try some time.

We were a party of 7 and were able to find ample seating once we walked into the space. It's a shotgun type layout, with seating on one side and the bar/kitchen on the other side. The space is fairly spacious though there isn't any onsite parking. Would suggest either taking an Uber or driving in early to circle around for street parking. I ended up taking an Uber since it was a rainy evening and didn't have too much time to spare. The ramen was pretty savory for the most part. I ordered the Green Curry Ramen. The soup was tasty, though mild for my palate so I had to dress it up a bit with the curry powder, chili oil, and Sriracha. I chose to forgo the fungal additions to the dish and asked mine to be made with the remaining vegetables. The order came out as asked and I appreciate that they had a vegan broth option for vegetarians/vegans to also partake in the whole ramen experience. The service is pretty good. The waitress was attentive and able to help explain parts of the menu that I wasn't familiar with and also offer insight between dishes when I couldn't make a decision. The food came out promptly served at an acceptable temperature to start eating right away. This was my first time having this "elevated" ramen experience. I think it was a good start, but would prefer more veggie options and a more spicier take to avoid adding all the additions myself. Overall, I think I would return again to check out the other options and maybe ask to have the dish be prepped at a spicier level.

I've been having a ramen obsession, therefore I've made it my duty to try every ramen joint I can lol. Ramen bar was a 4 minute drive away. I had a date night with my siblings. The food was decent. I wasn't blown away by my spicy ramen due to it not being spicy at all. It was decent and I would have it again. Just have to add a lot of the chilli pepper to my bowl. My sister never got her egg she ordered but they were busy. All in all a solid place for ramen. Nothing special but not bad either.

I searched high and low for ramen shops in Philly, which aren't plentiful. Having already tried Terakawa on our last visit, I wanted to explore more. Thanks to Yelp and its reviewers, Ramen Bar popped up. The amount of reviews and average star rating were decent, and best of all, the pics looked great. ATMOSPHERE: It's new, clean, contemporary and modern, with a mix of window-side and interior counter seating, the latter with a view of the open kitchen. Regular tables and a long single bench with opposite-facing chair seating spans the length of the restaurant. MENU: Japanese apps, salads, 8 flavors of ramen including tsukemen with 12 topping options, curry, tempura, rice, donburi, sushi & desserts. A small, seasonal summer menu was available with 3 cold ramen salads and cocktails. FOOD: Gyoza - The 5 pieces were tiny compared to other shops and weren't seared enough to my liking but, the filling had a really good flavor and married well with the dipping sauce. If you're a gyoza fan and always have to try them like myself, I say go for it. It's worth the $6. Ebi Tempura - Contrary to the menu description, the homemade dish also included veggie tempura of broccoli, onion, zucchini and pumpkin in addition to the 3 pieces of shrimp. The batter was light, crunchy, and not oily. What a steal at $7! Shoyu Ramen - The broth in this version and the Chashumen are the same. It's a mix of tonkotsu & shoyu, which turns the broth a medium brown color. The flavor was exactly how I had imagined and was excited to try, a creamy-savory mix with a nice medium depth. The noodles were cooked chewy. The single piece of charsiu was really tasty and extremely tender... Yes! It also came with bamboo shoots, sliced ear mushrooms, green onions, fish cake, and oddly red pickled ginger which I immediately removed because the flavor was bleeding into the broth, yuck. I added a marinated egg which was sliced in half, not too flavorful, and was slightly overdone, borderline hard boiled. Overall, very much recommended for the shoyu broth fan looking for something different. SERVICE: Initials "CK" was our male server. He wasn't too smiley and we didn't receive a greeting, just a blank stare. I don't think he had bad intentions but he's just not the best person to have wait on tables, personality wise. He did answer my burning question about the shoyu broths though. A female sitting at the counter across from us who I thought was another patron working on her laptop, stood up and handed us our beers, then went back to work. Okay... At the end of our meal, our server along with another employee were eating at the counter facing the kitchen, and a kitchen worker was eating towards the back of the restaurant. This is one of my biggest pet peeves so I had to mention it which is so unprofessional. Thank goodness there were no servers counting their tips in public!? On a positive note, they did serve customers who came in near closing time with no attitude. OVERALL: Nice digs, a unique twist on the traditional shoyu broth, good value, oddball service.

The mushroom and zucchini one actually had slightly more flavor, but the sauces on both were really tasty with good contrast in flavor, and the veggies were fried just right. For mains I got the Vegan Miso ramen with egg noodles and my husbans got the Vegan Spicy Kimchi ramen with egg noodles. I LOVED my ramen - the broth was deeply savory, the corn added nice pops of sweetness, and I really enjoyed the soy patty - it was chewy and had a great bite. My husband also enjoyed his ramen and said it was one of the best in the city - the kimchi flavor was very different than any ramen I've tried before.
