I ordered the wonton udon noodle. For me soup noodles are all about the broth. Poor quality broth base is a non starter for me. The broth tasted like it was made from chicken flavored bouillon, which usually contains a fair bit of MSG. I was expecting to see a large stock pot of boiling chicken or pork bones being on fully display out in the open like traditional ramen shops because this place was called ramen bones, but I saw none of that. I avoided drinking the broth because it was so nasty and artificial tasting. Probably the worst tasting broth I have ever tasted in my life. Tasted similarly to an instant ramen packet. Pretty good ramen experience here. The price for most of the ramen bowls is very reasonable ($15ish) for a heaping bowl of ramen. The best part is each table comes equipped with a spice tray which includes spicy oil, crunchy garlic, chili powder, vinegar, shoyu and the gyoza sauce. I love it when places provide this at the table as I am always experimenting and spicing up my dish. I ordered the black garlic and it was flavorful but not my favorite type of ramen, so I was definitely spicing it up. My husband ordered the spicy beef noodle and I liked that one much more. My first visit was on May 31st, 2023. I guess, no one knew that they were open yet. We didn't either! Lol. We went at 10:15 am and there were only two other tables before us, so service was very fast and attentive and the restaurant was very quiet and relaxing. For starters, we had a side order of mochiko chicken ($7.95) and a 6pc tako yaki ($8.25). The mochiko chicken was very flavorful, and I liked that it didn't have a thick batter coating. The tako yaki was okay, tastes like the frozen ones you can buy from the store. I'm not sure what their sauces are, but it's missing the Kewpie mayo drizzle and the little green sprinkle of seaweed powder. For lunch, my sister and I shared the Unadon (unagi over rice). It was so delicious! The sauce was salty but sweet, and the rice was perfect, not mushy, or not dry. The unagi is drizzled with a generous amount of unagi sauce and topped off with nori (seaweed) strips with a side of steamed broccoli. The unadon costs $18.95. We also shared a special combo. First, you choose mini ramen or mini udon. Second, you choose your broth, miso, or shoyu. You can add tantan, tonkotsu, black garlic, spicy shoyu tonkotsu, or curry for $1 extra. Third, choose either one selection for $13.75 or two selections for $16.45. We chose a mini shoyu ramen, with two choices, gyoza, and mini pork fried rice. Everything was delicious! The broth was good for the shoyu ramen, the gyoza was nice and crispy on the outside, and the pork fried rice was very flavorful with lots of meat. I like how they have crispy garlic on the table that you can add to your ramen. My second visit was around 7:45pm on June 5th. It was very busy and they estimated an hour or so wait time. We killed some time at Target while we were waiting and the time went by fast. After half an hour or so we went back to double-check our spot in line and they told us there were 2 parties ahead. The restaurant was packed and noisy and the service was really slow. For appetizers, we ordered fries for $4.75, Karaage chicken for $8.45, and lobster balls for $7.75. The fries were good, hot, and crispy. (Too bad they don't have squeeze bottles of a mustard/mayo mix.) The chicken karaage was also good, hot and crispy, but took extra long to come to our table. Honestly, I think they forgot to make it because we were almost done eating dinner by the time it came. The lobster balls were probably the first and last time of ordering them. It tastes like the frozen ones you can buy from the Asian market. I ordered a special combo again. This time I wanted to try the ramen with the miso broth instead. The broth was very good, but I think I'll stick with the shoyu broth because it doesn't taste as salty. I enjoyed the mochiko chicken side order that I tried during my first visit, so I ordered my combo with fried rice and mochiko chicken this time. During my second visit, we noticed that they add a 15% service fee to the check! I'm not sure if this was the case during the first visit because my sister's friend treated us to lunch that day. If this was the case, we gave them 35% tip, 20% on top of the 15% auto gratuity. Check your receipt before leaving tip. They should at least inform their customers of the auto gratuity verbally if it is not written on their menu. Usually, restaurants only have an automatic gratuity for parties of 6 or more. Both times that I dined in, we only had a party of 4. I understand it was busy that night, and that it slipped their mind to inform us. So don't forget to double-check your receipt for automatic gratuity, it would be under the subtotal on the check. Dined here on a Saturday evening before the dinner crowd. Walked right in and was seated right away. Our kids ordered chicken katsu curry and keiki saimin. Very large plate of food and bowl of saimin that they had leftovers to bring home. I opted for the shrimp ramen bowl and my husband got the tonton ramen bowl. Portion sizes are huge and very filling. Broth and noodles were delicious and food was fresh. Each table had a bunch of sauces and toppings to customize your bowl to your taste. Will definitely try the udon noodles next time around. Parking was ample and seating was limited. Service was on point. Server made suggestions, food came out quickly and drinks were topped off regularly. We have been on Maui for 12 days and eaten at Ramen Bones 3 times already. The food is delicious and good portions - chicken fried noodles, katsu fish, and wonton ramen have been my choices this far and all were fantastic. Staff is very friendly. I ordered the black garlic ramen and my partner got the chicken katsu curry with rice. The ramen is not Japanese ramen. It's like a fusion or inspired by. The noodles are small straight yellow egg noodles, similar to in Chinese noodles. The broth lacks depth and flavor. There's a thin layer of oil on top.. The pork is very thick cut and mostly fat in the bowl I got. The mushrooms and bamboo tastes a little funny to me. The marinated egg was way too sweet, I think too much mirin or whatever rice wine they use to marinate. The chicken curry was good. The chicken here is very crispy and juicy on the inside so I think this is a better dish to order here. We finally were able to try Ramen Bones. There was a short line ahead of us but it moved pretty quickly. We ordered the Chicken Katsu plate (came w/mac salad and two scoops of rice- pretty large portions) Vegetable Rolls (5 pieces) Crispy Fried Oyster and a Mini Shrimp Fried Rice. Chicken Katsu was cut really thin and fried a little too long. It tasted okay, not great enough to order again tho. The Vegetable Rolls were crispy, not too oily and filling was really tasty. The Crispy Fried Oyster was really good and not greasy. The Shrimp Fried Rice had a good flavor and it was a nice portion for a mini. They didn't hold out on the shrimp either. I was nervous to set expectations to high but it was a great experience. The restaurant is very small but the atmosphere is nice thanks to the way they designed the interior. Nice wood tables and wall paneling, playing 92.5 FM. The staff seemed small but they were really quick and nice considering how busy it was and how long the wait list was. The food was honestly great, the spicy beef ramen (added corn, seaweed, and crispy onion) was flavorful with great texture. They have plenty spices on the tables to add to it. The fried rice and spring rolls were good and were at a good price point. They didn't serve alcohol if you're looking for a drink but it helped with quick turnaround on tables. I really wanted to love this place. I hate writing bad reviews. Anyways I called in a pick up order for tonkotsu ramen with extra fish cake. My toddler LOVES fish cake. Unfortunately they only gave me THREE pieces of fish cake and charged me $2.50. I called them hoping this was a mistake. The manager hung up on me. She didn't try to explain that ingredients are expensive or anything (fish cake isn't but she could have tried...). I wasn't rude at all just inquisitive and then expressed my disappointment that $2.50 is their real price for 3 slices of fish cake. Anyways the ramen was also pretty salty. I wish we had more quality and fair places to eat. I wanted Restaurant Matsu but they weren't open... Edited to make it 2 stars as my husband thinks I'm being too nice with 3. We've waited a bit to try this new hype + with all the recommendations from our friends, we were excited. The wait was expected but it wasn't that bad, lack of shade but it's due to the development of the shopping center. We sat in the far left corner facing the wall + the AC blasting which felt like we were in a freezer. I was excited to try their ramen's unfortunately, half of their ramens contain PEANUTS in the broth, ***please be sure to mention to your waitress because there is no notice on the menu or anywhere in the restaurant ***. So I settled for a chicken katsu plate with my wife. We also got pan fried gyoza, shumai + fries. Let's just say, it wasn't up to the hype. The fries were shoe string fries as they were pictured to be crinkle cut, we asked for it extra crispy and it was like eating burnt ends because it wasn't the same fries displayed. The gyoza was shit, it was cold + there was no flavor at all, the wrapping paper tasted raw so we requested to have another one cooked and still tasted the same but it was hot. The shumai was ono but it tasted like the ones that you can buy from the store lol. The curry was sweeter than Ramen Ya but does not compare at all.
