I was face to face with the cooks and there was even a stand for your phone so that you could stand it up and look at your screen while you wait and eat. Definitely need to give this place another try. I ordered the Tonkatsu curry rice and everything about it was great besides the pork cutlet. It was hard to chew and definitely overcooked. We all know dallas isnt really blessed with any good ramen places so when I heard hakata ramen was opening up I had high hopes for it. Ive been there about 3 times since it opened & each time I feel like the food consistency isnt there. The chasu buns have changed! Their on bigger buns now so the bun to pork ratio .. well lets just say its allllll bun & when they do come out its cold & unenjoyable. I missed the first time that i had it .. delicious! Ordered a couple more appetizers that were good but they arrived AFTER our ramen :/ .. The ramen broth seemed to be one dimensional & getting more bland each time I came in .. maybe due to high demand they're not investing enough time into making their broth. The service is noticeably in disarray .. the servers obviously dont know their sections or maybe theyre over staffed because we were asked by 3-4 different people if we were ready to order drinks/food after we had already did .. 10 minutes ago & they were not really knowledgeable on the menu but seeing that they are a new restaurant we'll let it slide. This place has really good potential & since it is new I hope they work out all their kinks. I don't know why this place has such low reviews!! The ramen (Spicy Chasu) is absolutely AMAZING! The flavor all tie in together so well. Every time I leave, I crave RH all the time! Been back 3 times already. Spicy Chasu Ramen has Charcoaled Chasu, Soy Sauce Egg, Seaweed, and Soooo much more. The yellow noodles are the best. Highly recommend to get an extra side of noodles if you're hungry. Fills you right up ! ^.^ Pork Buns with Chasu are so yummy (: Perfect amount of sauce and flavor ! (ask for the Slice of Chasu instead of shredded) . Mochi ice cream is delish as always! They recently changed their menu. Maybe I've been spoiled forever by NYC ramen, but I thought this ramen was just meh. Food: I had the miso garlic ramen with a mini chashudon, and our table split a takoyaki appetizer. My bowl of ramen looked delicious, but...the flavors were just not there. This is supposed to be a tonkotsu broth with miso? Where is the porkiness? For that matter, where are the notes of miso? The only prominent flavors were the fried garlic chips and the raw garlic in the broth. Fortunately, my egg was tasty and soft boiled. The chashu was lackluster, but overall I thought there was a decent balance of fat and meat in my piece. Speaking of the chashu, when I hear chashudon, my mind immediately jumps back to the most perfect chashudon I had at Totto Ramen. Maybe I really need to temper my expectations (or maybe I really have been ruined forever), but this version did not satisfy my soul's craving. The chashu seemed pretty lean for belly (and also lean compared to the slice in my ramen), and I didn't think the additional carmelization added anything to the flavor of the meat. The takoyaki was okay. I always get really excited about takoyaki, but it never meets expectations, so I think that's just me. A dining companion said it was really good. Service: Our service was not too good. Our waitress was readily available when we first ordered, but we didn't see her that often after she brought out our drinks. Speaking of which, one of the people at the table ordered a Dr. Pepper. He gets a can plus a glass with ice - no big deal. He finishes the can in ~15 minutes, but at no point is he offered a refill or even a glass of water, despite the fact that his glass is visibly empty. Also, our takoyaki got lost somehow. We ended up with our ramen and had to ask a different waitress if she could check on our takoyaki, which came almost halfway through the ramen. TL;DR: If you REALLY need to satisfy a ramen craving, then this isn't a bad option, but know there are way better ramen-yas out there. Food (3.5/5) I've been meaning to try this place out for awhile since I'm obsessed with all things noodle. I ordered the spicy tonkotsu miso ramen, and the ramen was at a perfect level of al dente. Afterwards, everything else was average. The chashu wasn't dry but it wasn't succulent either. Broth is a bit oilier / heavier than I like, and the ajitama egg is almost at the perfect degree of runny-ness for the yolk but only slightly overcooked since the yolk edges had become solid and not the gooey texture that ajitama eggs should have. Word of caution: when Hakata says spicy miso ramen, they mean it. I was drinking so much water throughout the meal and I'll probably order a non-spicy bowl next time or ask them to put in less of the spicy sauce. We also ordered the pork belly buns as an appetizer. The bao itself was great - very soft and slightly sweet on its own. If you prefer your pork belly to be a little fatty and to have a nice sear to it, then you may not be as impressed by the meat. The accompanying sauce was tasty though I do think it drowned the bao a bit. It was a nice tang of sweetness with a twist. Service (3/5) Our server was knowledgeable, but it was pretty standard service. The host will first seat you, the waiter takes your order, and the waiter will bring out the food. You can pay either at the host desk or have the waiter take the check. Atmosphere (4/5) Ramen Hakata evokes a modern zen feel. The area is filled with pale wooden tones that are prominent throughout the restaurant with black trim. I don't think it's easy to seat a group larger than 4 people due to the constraints of the restaurant space. Bottom Line This place is more like a 3.5 star establishment but I'll round up to 4 since this is the best ramen I've had so far in Dallas. (Footnote: I've only been to two ramen shops in Dallas. I still dream about Tatsuya in Austin, where my true loyalties lie, so I've got my fingers crossed that Dallas will step it up soon!) Totally worth the money and time. We had the best server who was very upbeat, energetic, and friendly. He knew what he was doing and suggested that we try the chashu buns, tuna tataki, and a few other appetizers. His overall friendly persona made us even more excited and pleased to get our food. We got all of the appetizers he recommended and they were amazing and delicious. I highly recommend the tuna tataki--I think where this restaurant really shines is in its appetizers. They are one of a kind and unique in the area. As for the ramen, it was really good!! The broth was tasty and the noodles were cooked al dente (Italian for "with a bite", which is the perfect way to cook noodles). We were seated and quickly got our orders in & constantly were checked up on. I ordered the garlic miso ramen & had requested it spicy. When my soup came out and I took my first bite, it had a terrible bitter taste I couldn't ignore. I'm not one to complain about my food much and usually just suck it up & finish it but it was unbelievably inedible to me. I knew not to have high expectations of this place but I was so disappointed with my meal it literally pissed me off to the point that I lost my appetite. Our waitress, Victoria, offered to switch out to something else and she recommended the Hakata Ramen. I really appreciated the offer so I decided to exchange it. It came out, it tasted so much better because it's not bitter but the problem with this one was it was extremely bland and almost flavorless. I had to keep adding seasoning they had on the table to get some sort of taste. I couldn't finish it. All and all, I enjoyed the service more over the food. The broth is very mild, a fact that some people could be disappointed by. For stronger flavors, try the miso, spicy, or garlic. Or a combination. I'm rather fond of the spicy miso. Usual order - chashu miso ramen, the miso one has a little more flavor than the regular broth, add spicy sauce, fried garlic, an egg, and chashu - it's a $14 bowl. So I need to ask them to get me an "egg(please keep it clean)"lol. But I was a little bit disappointed at the egg, for those of you didn't know ramen eggs, the yolk suppose to be a little raw. But they have it in well done:(. The broth was ok, they need to make sure is hot enough, is only warm. But is in my International ramen eater standard. But I think that this place is probably one of the best ramen place in Dallas. Better then Tanoshii, Old Taro. I haven't try Tei-An yet so can't comment on it. We were really hungry, so we ordered two appetizers: but the chashu bun arrived after our ramen, and the gyoza never arrived. The pork bun was cold...as if the bun had been thawed or sitting in the fridge. The regular ramen was OK but pretty bland, and the spicy ramen was *way* too spicy. I know they just opened the restaurant, but these problems are more than just working out the kinks--in my opinion, the food wasn't that good. No, not the Top Ramen you all ate in college. This is the delicious broth with whatever you want in it such as sliced pork, soft-boiled egg, green onions, etc. I walked in and sat at the bar. I knew what I wanted to order because I checked Yelp beforehand. I got an order of Gyoza and the Spicy Ramen. Gyoza came out and it was alright. I'd suggest you add some of the Japanese red pepper seasoning off to the side. After you dip it in this sauce they have for it, dip it in the seasoning. It'll give it an extra kick. I tried the gyoza without dipping into the sauce and it was relatively bland. And really tiny. Maybe I'm spoiled with the huge gyoza that are bursting at the seams. My ramen came after that. I tasted the red chili paste they added. Wow! Spicy indeed! I mixed it all together and started eating away. At first, the spice is manageable. It's once you work your way down the bowl, it gets spicier and spicier. Well, the broth anyway. It can definitely put on a quick sweat. But I just kept going after the delicious broth. Great service. Good food. A bit on the pricey end. The order of gyoza was $4.50 and a regular bowl of the ramen was $8.50, I believe. The regular was a bit small. Best ramen place I've tried in the DFW area so far! Their menu is different from other places. Their broth is light with just the right amount of flavor. The chasu is soft and tender. They offer other kinds of ramen such as Tantanmen (recommend) and entrees like tonkatsu. The appetizers are amazing! Just enough to share among couple of people. It's not just edamame but unique like the takowasa (raw octopus) and fried octopus. The place is super cute! Simple, clean, and nice music. Service is fast and friendly- waiters are constantly walking around refilling drinks and such. I came here around 1 on a Friday and it was really busy. Well my spicy ramen was pretty decent; the eggs were perfect and pork slices were pretty good fat to meat ratio. As for my wife her garlic miso was only spicy - it was overwhelming of spice and she tried to finish it but I had to eat it. Even though I love spicy food - this spicy sauce overtaken the flavor of miso and garlic - it just tasted like spicy soup. Follow up: Negative ***** of ***** That same day I had to go to urgent care because I was food poisoned from this place! As I did not eat anything before or after eating at Ramen Hakata. It was pleasure experience yesterday and so far today. I will not visit a restaurant that gives food poisoning but also severing lukewarm food. The place is very small. The service was great though as soon as you walk in you will be greeted they will take you to the table. The waitress was very nice and very helpful in showing what kind of food to eat. The food came out very quickly but it did not taste as good. The karage chicken was very soggy and oily. The ramen broth was okay but the chicken they use was the same as the karage. I probably would not come back here. read more

Ramen Hakata was good! Hard to come by ramen houses in the Dallas area. Got excited when they announced the opening and even better that I live 5 minutes away. Glad it's not in the super congested part of Addison. It's super cute on the outside and inside. Love the ramen house feel. Pretty reasonable sized accommodations, however crowded during peak hours. Not surprised since it's a newly opened restaurant. We were seated right away at the bar seating area since it was just my fiance' and I. I wouldn't recommend bringing a big group here since seating is limited. Maybe try calling ahead and giving them a heads up, however keep in mind they don't take reservations. To start we had the Takoyaki. It was just ok. I have had it in other places and it didn't taste as fresh, crispy and warm like most places I have tried it. But the sauce on top was pretty good. Was eyeing the pork belly buns the girl had next to us. She had one left, I was tempted to reach over and eat it! Even asked her if they were good. She said they were. Will have to try it next time! We had the Miso Garlic Ramen and the Spicy Ramen. The Miso Garlic was my favorite, a bit creamy and a hint of sweetness from the garlic. They Spicy Ramen still had a creamy base but had a great kick of spiciness. If you don't like spicy foods, I wouldn't recommend it. I liked their ramen because it wasn't as salty as a few other places I have tried. Overall could be more flavorful, but for the price and the convenience it will certainly do. Overall this place will curb my ramen cravings that is close to home and reasonable prices. Will be a good place to go when it gets cold! I lived in LA for a few years and no other place will ever compare to the ramen out there. Perhaps Ramen Hakata will keep improving...only their first month of opening.
