There are so many places that offer fusion Mexican and Chinese food in DFW, but I can guarantee that none of them come close to Dragon Casa. We showed up on a Sunday over Memorial Day weekend and were sat promptly. The space is SO well decorated and seamlessly blends both cultures. There were several people there but the overall volume was still comfortable. Our server was nice and prompt, and gave us a few recommendations when we asked. Let me tell you, the food did not disappoint. I got an Horchata to start and almost downed the whole thing at once! I also couldn't stop myself from having the wonton chips dipped in sweet and sour sauce or the green sauce. Both were delicious. Because everything on the menu looked good we went overboard with our orders. We started with the Birria egg rolls (yummy, though I think the consommé could've had a bolder flavor), then the elote dumplings which were easily one of my favorites. Just thinking about them makes me want them again! When the dumpling fiesta showed we realized we ordered too much, but we persevered. I got the walnut shrimp tacos on flour tortillas, ate them both, and even had a bite of the orange chicken tacos. The bbq brisket rolls were delicious, but we were so full at this point that it was a struggle to finish them. Lastly, we got the lava buns to go since we were too full to have anything else, but I can confirm that they were delicious when we ate them later that day. Cool concept for sure and interesting/unique atmosphere. Service was ok- our server seemed like she might have been stretched a little thin, so I won't blame her. Food was good overall. I loved the Dan dan noodle soup we ordered but forgot to get a pic! I didn't know it was in soup form, I thought I was ordering a regular noodle dish but either way was still very tasty. I also liked that they bring out the wontons with the two dipping sauces similarly to how you'd be served chips and salsa at a Mexican restaurant. Everything tasted so good. Service was great. I had also gotten the earl grey ice cream and it looked and tasted so good we forgot to take pictures before we ate it. Bao huns were soft with soft silky filling. The noodles were fresh and the Peking duck tacos were a great fusion. For a Mexican/Chinese infused restaurant I would expect them to offer margaritas of some sort of variation of it. Beef was tuff to eat and the birria in the dumplings a didn't look like birria. All of us (there were 5 of us) didn't even realize we were eating birria XLB until we started listing out the dishes we ordered. Also, may I ask - why were the spoons not provided? I had to awkwardly eat my XLB with the soup spilling all over the plate. I understand this restaurant is not catered to only Chinese people and many people may not know how to eat properly XLB, but still - please provide a spoon. - Wagyu Dumpling: another a-okay for me. i wouldn't say it's outstanding. - Black Lava Bun: not sure what happened with the texture of the custard. The flavor was there but it was very watery. I'll give a benefit of the doubt and say it was just a bad day for the custard. Here's my biggest complaint - the service. Again, Daniel (or was it Danny?) was great. It took forever for the finished / dirty dish to be cleaned up. I worked at a similar kind of restaurant before. I see there's a food runner and server. It's cool if the food runner was not cleaning up but I see the servers were walking around and not helping with cleaning up the dirty dishes. We had to ask several times to get the dishes out of the way since we ordered quite a bit. We were sitting by the kitchen and all I see was the manager looking straight ahead from the cashier (we sat on his left) and not even noticing our table needed some clean up. Then, we asked for a check not long after our dessert. It took a very long time to finally get our checks ready. Not sure what's the holdup. I don't see the restaurant being super understaffed. Overall review: I'll be honest - even though the birria has excellent flavors. The restaurant feels more Chinese than Mexican, not just by a little but a lot. I didn't get to try a lot of the Chinese dishes, but knowing they are wrapping dumplings on the spot and there's hand pulled noodles, I can imagine those dishes would be great. Didn't like the tortillas as they reminded me of Mission tortillas you buy in the grocery store. I visited Dragon Casa with my family when I was home in Dallas last weekend. We arrived around 11 on Saturday, and were seated at a table right away! Dragon Casa serves "Chino-Mex fusion." Some dishes are Mexican, some Chinese, and many are a fusion of the two. With six of us, we were able to try a lot from their menu: BBQ Brisket Cheese Buns (soft buns filled with BBQ brisket and melted cheese); "Dumpling Fiesta" (crispy, deep-fried dumplings - wagyu, pork, chicken, seafood, and vegetable - lightly coated with their signature Chino-Mex taco seasoning); Peking duck tacos (Beijing-style duck with cucumber, scallion, and house Hoisin sauce topped with cilantro on corn or flour tortillas); Mongolian beef burrito (grilled burrito filled with fried rice, beans, onion, tomato, cilantro, and savory Mongolian beef); Birria Xiao Long Bao (juicy soup dumplings filled with slow-braised beef birria, pork, ginger, scallions, and rich birria broth); Birria egg rolls (slow-braised beef birria with carrots, glass noodles, cilantro, onion, celery, and napa cabbage); Birria fried rice (savory fried rice with birria beef, egg, cilantro, onion, peas, and carrots); Dumpling sampler (2 pieces each of pork, chicken, vegetable, and seafood dumplings - steamed or fried); and black lava buns (fluffy buns with a custard filling) for dessert. I absolutely loved this place! My favorite were the fried pork dumplings. These were filling and so full of flavor! I wish we ordered more. The birria noodles were exactly what we hoped for. The fusion between both worlds, was perfection! They close between 3PM-5PM, so plan accordingly. The food had the potential to be great but unfortunately the flavor was just mid. The items took a bit long to come out, and when we finally got our food my order was wrong and they forgot our appetizer. Thankfully, they were kind enough to fix my order and bring out our appetizer so we could take it to go. Out of everything we tried my super carnivores babe said the vegetable spring rolls were the best thing he ate (so take that however you'd like).... I will say the margarita was strong so that was nice ! For a place decorated like a corpo fusion Asian place, this place has no business being this good. From the decor you kind of expect it to be an overly watered down version of both types of cuisine, but no, this place is actually, very very solid. First, this place is super busy on a weekend, not sure about week day but it had a waitlist after like 6 pm when we went on a Friday. The menu has a combined fusion part and also an individual Mexican and Chinese portion, it felt like the owners did not have the confidence to only serve fusion food and had the original versions as back up. Just looking at the situation, we were expecting the food to be awful but some dishes were so good that would we would, and have since, come back for them. We ordered: Peking duck tacos: first time we got a prime cut of the duck meat and it was absolutely awesome. perfectly seasoned, reasonably priced at like 10 (or 12?) dollars. The second time the meat wasn't my favorite part of the duck, it was more a scattered cut of meat, but still very good Walnut shrimp tacos: shrimp were perfect, this type of food definitely can be enhanced by a flour tortilla Beef dumplings: was just okay, would not order again Chili Wontons: this is my go to Chinese restaurant dish. it's not fusion here, but it is really delicious. It is better than the fortune house version of this dish I think. It's on par with Shanghai Taste. Not as good as DTF, but it's not DTF prices so that's good. Shanghai Cucumber Salad - 3/5 Not super easy to ruin this, and while it wasn't ruined, it certainly was "meh", the cucumbers are swimming in juice and there isn't a lot of seasoning, didn't taste bad just not delicious or memorable. Wonton in Chilli Sauce - 3/5 Also underwhelming in the flavor department and the size of the dumplings is very mid to small. BBQ Brisket Buns - 3/5 These buns were well made enough with the texture of the bun itself. However, the inside of the buns was very dry and there was only brisket, they were not entirely bbq'd and not steaming hot. Usually moisture in buns makes them amazing, these were also not memorable. When my husband told me "I found a restaurant for us to try. It's a fusion of Chinese and Mexican!", I had my doubts. We had gone to one before and I didn't really enjoy it at all. But we went to give it a try. The interior is really cute with neon signs. The staff was so friendly and when they saw us eating everything, they genuinely looked so happy. We asked our waiter for recommendations and he gave us his opinions. The food ... We sat down and they gave us a bowl of fried wonton skins with 2 different sauces: Chinese Sweet and Sour and Mexican Cilantro. I have not had friend wonton skins for a long time. When the bowl looked almost empty they brought us another bowl all on the house. We wanted to try their Chino Mex portion of the menu and selected 3 dishes that popped out at us ... The whole place gives off good vibes with colorful lights, upbeat music, and décor that feels part Chinatown and part fiesta. The menu has your classic Chinese dishes plus a section of "Mexican versions" like tacos, burritos, and quesadillas with Chinese flavors.
