I still say that Ramen Hakata is the best ramen place you can find in Dallas. Food is always fantastically on point. As you would expect the star is their soups, with broth that is fantastically full of umami flavor. My favorite is the garlic miso ramen, with extra soft-boiled egg & chasu. It'd be a shame to miss their appetizers as well. The tuna tataki, spicy karrage, and gyoza dumplings are fantastic. Just came into Dallas and I just had to stop by since our hotel was so close. I've been here a lot with friends years prior. Always seated fast and food always comes out fast. Never really super full when I come around so tonight wasn't any different. My husband got the kimchi ramen extra spicy with added tofu he loved it , defiantly had a kick. The ramen. We don't know how or what they do but for some reason this is the place. We have found that the miso ramen is amazing good with portions for two easily. I have gone all over DFW searching for Ramens and this is the one I give my 5 star. It's a good portion of base soup, noodles are excellent, and the other pieces are cooked well. Some restaurants taste like they hide behind a very salty broth but I really enjoyed this one with plenty of veggies (loved the mushrooms!). I had high hopes for this place, as the menu was partially written in Japanese and the interior decor looked traditionally Japanese. One of my coworkers got the kimchi ramen, so I tried out the broth. If you are a fan of spicy food, I highly recommend the kimchi ramen. Located in Addison, the area is growing with many choices of cuisines, and this satisfies the craving for ramen... very good ramen. Upon entering, I have always been greeted by warm and friendly staff. The dining area has booths, shared tables, and bar seating that looks into the bustling kitchen. Service is prompt and the food prepared consistently and always tasty. There is also take out option as well. Prices are reasonable. I tend to order the Hakata Ramen which is pork broth, with chashu (marinated pork belly), soft boiled egg, mushroom, and bean sprouts. Ordering the regular size tends to be more than enough ramen for one visit, and yet I will always end up bringing the leftovers home. Appetizers are in good portions and always delicious. Today was my first time trying ramen. I've been dying to have it due to my love for Pho but I forever ran across the issue of restaurants only having pork broth and pork in each ramen and the only second option is complete veggies. But Ramen Hakata gave me something different, of course they have the typical pork broth but they also offer chicken and vegetable broth. I ordered the seafood ramen and replaced the pork broth with chicken. They also have it where you can add extras to your ramen (egg, different vegetables, different meats, and their spicy sauce) for an addition charge. My ramen came with shrimp, mussels, and octopus and I added egg and spicy sauce. The ramen was amazing and full of flavor and it was so much food I couldn't even finish. I also sat at the bar area and watched them make my meal. The only reason they didn't get 5 stars is because service wasn't great. Yes, you are seated immediately and your order is taken but my waiter never checked on me while waiting on my food or while I ate he didn't bother to see if I needed anything else. And the wait time to receive my food took a long time and I went in at 6:30pm on a Monday and it wasn't busy at all. The cooks were talking and taking their time, even the servers kept checking on orders because customers were asking. So once they fix that it will be perfect. When you first come in, you are immediately greeted. Once you sit down, its pretty simple. The menu is in front of you with what they have. I decided that I wanted the spicy miso ramen, and man was I not disappointed. I know some people said the broth was bland when they tasted it. But I had no such thing. By far the best miso ramen broth in DFW... and I will be testing several other ramen houses soon as I am on a ramen kick with this cold weather. It's a casual restaurant, with some great Japanese touches like natural woods & an open kitchen. I've heard it gets busy at lunch, but my visit on a Thursday evening had no wait although they were still pretty busy. If you've been to Ramen Tatasu-ya in Austin it has a similar feel. 1 Star. Service - Our experience was great. We were quickly greeted & seated, our server was fast & friendly. Everyone we encountered was nice. I would have liked more advice on the menu options though since there were so many options, but at this point I was sure I knew what I wanted. 1 Star. Food - I started with the chasu buns. Honestly they were just ok. While Tanoshi in Deep Ellum seems to get a bum rap, their buns were better (did I just really type "buns were better"?). The pork belly wasn't as tender as I would have hoped, and my bun either was split (or broke) so It was a bit messy. As for my ramen, (I ordered the Hakata), it was way too bland. The ramen itself was soft & absorbed what flavors it could, and you could say the same for my soft-boiled egg. The problem was there wasn't enough of a flavor profile for me. Unfortunately it didn't live up to my expectations. 1/2 Star. Will I Return? - Probably since there are so few other places. I would love to say that I'm a Ramenologist. And I can tell just by how the shadow falls after I pick up a chopstick-full of hand pulled noodles how many hours the pork broth simmered for. Because this time around at Ramen Hakata I couldn't imagine a better bowl of ramen. In the Chinese culture it is customary on your birthday to eat noodles for longevity. When you slurp the noodles, you're also not supposed to break it and let the noodles fall back into your bowl. That's bad juju. Even though my family isn't exactly Chinese, we adopt a lot of traditions just because they're fun and my parents always talk like they're going to live to be 300. And because I didn't want to drive in traffic for Chinese noodles, I figured ramen would just have to do. I ordered the garlic ramen this time and everything in there was perfect! The broth wasn't overly salty like I've had before. You could taste the hours of flavor developed in the kitchen from some awesome ramen shaman (that rhymes!). The egg was still perfect, soft yolk just glistening and floating majestically in the bowl. All the other components went together and the noodles had that slight chewy consistency that I love. No one likes mushy noodles! I wasn't even hungry and I ate the entire bowl...and an order of wings. I drove as fast as I can, during rush hour to Addison on their grand opening day for a hot bowl of spicy miso ramen in this not so hot TX weather. I finished my food in 5 mins because I was hungry, and because it was that good. The noodles, eggs, chashu, and broth were made just right. I am pleasantly surprised by this place. Despite what my friends have told me, I thought it was quite tasty. I've heard the soup was bland and not enough flavor but I got the Spicy Hakata Ramen and it was delicious. I guess I've experienced places where their soup was way too salty so I really liked the amount of flavor in their ramen. This is probably hands down the best ramen I have had in the Dallas area. Obviously it can't really compare to the ramen I've had in the west coast but I'm glad Dallas finally has a good decent ramen place :) I'll definitely be coming back here more often. One thing I would want them to improve is the chashu buns... The flavor of the meat and the sauce was good but the bun itself was kinda cold :/ I like my buns hot! I found this place after having a craving for ramen. The inside was brightly lit and inviting, and the staff was friendly. My friend and I ordered strawberry nigori, which is a flavored type of sake, to share along with spicy fries and gyoza. The fries were topped with okonomiyaki sauce, katsuo bushi, spicy Mayo and a spicy seasoning. The fries had good balance of sweet and spicy and were hot and crispy. The gyoza were probably frozen and deep fried, and served with a soy-based sauce that was, in my opinion, too salty. For entrees my friend ordered the chicken yakisoba and I got the tsukemen. My friend liked her food but I was not as impressed. Typically, tsukemen noodles are chilled and paired with a bowl of hot soup to dip the noodles into. The noodles were steaming hot so I did not get the traditional experience of tsukemen I was looking for. The toppings were chashu pork, long strings of green onion, black mushrooms, menma, and a spicy chili sauce. The flavor of the soup was okay but was not a thick consistency that stuck to the noodles. The tsukemen was basically a deconstructed bowl of tonkotsu with thick noodles. The service was okay, we had a different person come to our table for the order and each time food was delivered. We ordered Tuna Tataki (avail in small or large plates). Our large had 10 slices of tuna. I tasted ice (frozen) slices. Was not a fan of that. Pork belly buns were ok. Our spicy miso ramen (although the others liked it and could taste the spiciness) was ok to me. I kept sipping more broth, but couldn't taste the kick. Ramen noodles were kind of cold. The egg in it was extremely salty. Agedashi tofu---very mushy (even the outside, which was suppose to be slightly fried). Had to flag down staff to refill my water because they just walk right by without keeping an eye on their tables. There aren't too many ramen places in Dallas. It's kind of hard to compare to other places, since there are probably only 2 or 3 other ramen shops in the DFW area. I give it an average rating of 3.7. First off, I've had ramen elsewhere, this is decent, not bad, but also not the best. It's good for the Dallas area:-) I've also had cheaper. We ordered the takoyaki which is about as mediocre as takoyaki can get. Very typical. The taki wasabi was good, but I've also had better elsewhere. I ordered the chashu ramen, it was good. That's all I can say about it. The Chashu was very tender. My cousin liked her spicy miso ramen, which I thought lacked flavor. But decent, it wasn't bad either. Overall we both enjoyed our experience here. Maybe we'll try other ramen bowls next time. But in the meantime I think there is better ramen out there. There were some of the recent bad reviews for this place so I was kinda hesitating to order. It was my first time here, but my boyfriend came here several times already.
