Seating is setup bar style high tops and individual tables. Jazz music pipes through the speakers. Pros: quaint and nicely decorated in an Asian flair. Cons: during the cold weather, separation between the tables and front door would keep the cold air from hitting you while eating. Service: Fast and Friendly. The noodles are not from dry so they serve up really quick. Pros: fast and friendly service. Cons: observed one server during lunch. She was great put could probably use the help. Food: various options for Ramen from meat based to vegetarian. I recommend the Tonkatsu. It's a pork base soup with the option for added toppings like a boiled egg. Pros: traditional Japanese ramen full of great flavor. Cons: unfortunately due to shrink-flation, the amount of noodles has reduced from when I first started eating here. Overall: if you are looking for a favorable lunch at less than $20, then Ramen Kagawa 's is a great option, especially on colder days. read more

Visiting amazing ramen bars like Ramen Kagawa makes us wish there were more of them! We shared the pork buns and the regular tonkotsu ramen, and both of them were wonderful. The place was inviting as soon as we walked in. It is casual, friendly, kind of a Japanese kitsch in a way but it worked. It is clean and the spacing is proper so you don't feel cramped. A friendly hostess told us to sit where we liked and then provided water, menus and eventually took our order. I've not eaten ramen before but I was told it is a bit like a cousin of pho, which I eat often so I gladly tried it. We both ordered Hokkaido Miso Ramen and I had an egg and a bit of pork added. I found the broth not entirely to my liking as it was a bit to buttery and thick for my taste. It was good but I wouldn't order it again. It is a pork broth so next time maybe a chicken broth will be better. The presentation was fine and the noodles, egg, pork, everything was well prepared and tasty so no negatives on taste at all from my view. I recently moved to Phoenix and needed to find a new ramen spot. The location is easy to find and lots of parking/public transportation. The inside of the restaurant was very nice too along with the employees. Unfortunately the food was AWFUL. The chicken was undercooked and did not have any flavor, the bamboo was not cooked so you couldn't even bite into it, and the cabbage looked and tasted just awful. Also to note that that's all the vegetables you get in the ramen. The only good part was the noodles and egg. We honestly took a few bites and were done - this is not how ramen should look or taste! This restaurant has had its ups and downs. The vegetarian ramen used to be good, got steadily worse, then has recently improved again. At one point the tofu was just lumps of cold uncooked, unseasoned mush and the only vegetable in it was cabbage. Now they have sweet potato instead of tofu and include corn, which is an improvement. Their sister restaurant Kaisen used to include a lot more sweet potato, so I know they're skimping on me. Soft boiled eggs should also be included in ramen, as is traditional. Charging $2 for it isn't cool. Overall, though, the broth is great, and the flavor is usually on point. read more

It's good. Was hungry for some curry katsu. Were visiting my family in Mesa and made this drive to downtown Phoenix. I've for sure had better curry and better katsu. Trendy and cool little place in downtown Phoenix. It was recommended by a friend so we decided to try it. We went on a Saturday and got there just before 2. They close at 3 and reopen at 5 so we were hoping we will be seated immediately. There was only one table left and we sat ourselves. Menu is viewed by scanning the QR code on a little sign on the table. We ordered karaage, Takoyaki as well as two ramen bowls with a seasoned egg. The two appetizers were hands down, some of the best I've ever had! The karaage chicken was so tender and and had amazing flavor. It wasn't served with a dipping sauce but it didn't even need one! The Takoyaki was creamy without being overly creamy. The ramen bowl was very good but it needed something, so I asked for chili oil. We thought it would go really well with the food. They didn't have chili oil ready but they offered to make us some, which we appreciated. The seasoned egg was cooked perfectly. One thing we weren't huge fans of was the noodles; they were more like spaghetti noodles. We are very picky about our noodles and I think one should be especially with Ramen! I got the spicy tonkatsu, while my boyfriend had the hokkaido miso, we both really enjoyed our meals, the broth was perfection and the toppings for each really complimented the ramen. This ramen place was just around the corner from our hotel, and although I couldn't fathom eating hot ramen on this freaking hot summer day in June, hubs and kiddo were craving some noodles. We initially walked by before the end of their lunch hours (11:00a-3:00p), but heck, it's 100+ degrees outside...I just couldn't go in there to eat something even hotter. So we decided to come here later for dinner, because it was a few degrees lower *sarcasm* (dinner hours 5:00p-9:00p, closed Mondays). It was a Saturday, and we arrived around 5:45p. It was maybe 1/3 full, and we were told to just sit where ever. We ordered karaage ($7.50) and gyoza ($7.50) for starters, then the Tokyo shoyu ramen ($13.00), Hokkaido miso ramen ($14.00), and croquette curry ($13.00). The karaage and gyoza were good. The karaage came with 3 pieces, and had a sweet shoyu flavor. The gyoza was house made. The curry was sweet and had a nostalgic flavor, like the showa era (1926-1989) curry. Surprisingly, my shoyu ramen also had a sweetness in the broth, and some of the toppings were still cold. Also, the overall ramen temperature wasn't as hot as I'm accustomed to. Not sure if this is the case during summer months or if it's like this year round. This is supposedly authentic ramen from Japan, so I was a bit disappointed. Everything (except for the gyoza) had a sweet base, which for ramen is weird to me, but maybe it's an Arizona thing? I dunno. Service was also strange...there were 2 or 3 young girls, maybe college age? One who mainly served us was nice and took our order, but then she just almost tossed our first dish on the table without saying anything and left. She also gave us the wrong gyoza order and took it away later after making sure we didn't touch it. At times the girls were busy talking to each other. My brother ordered the classic curry which tasted like it was out of a can, not authentic at all. My cousin ordered the chicken karaage which was plain with no sauce at all. Usually it is drizzled in sauce or served with sauce on the side. When asking the server for some sauce she said they had none to offer that goes with that dish. We sat with empty water cups for a while as well, the service was not attentive at all. Was in the area and did a quick yelp search and found this gem. Started off with gyoza and those were perfectly cooked. Had wanted to try their Takoyaki, but my dining guest was not adventurous and I knew I couldn't eat them all myself. Next time as they look fantastic!! Of course we got ramen...you have to when the place has Ramen as part of their name. The broth was flavorful and full of veggies. A good portion...not enough for leftovers. (see I should have ordered the takoyaki) I always like to get a bento box because they are cute and I like to eat different things. Karaage bento box has: Chicken Karaage, Rice, Potato salad, and Hijiki seaweed. The chicken was cooked well, not dry and had a nice crisp to it! Ramen Kagawa is a new ramen joint in downtown Phoenix a couple doors down from Harumi Sushi. I tried takeout a few weeks ago and was simultaneously impressed and unimpressed by my order. Seating is limited inside and there are a couple tables outside. Service was friendly. Takoyaki: This appetizer was reallyyyy good. The dough was cooked to perfection, slightly crispy on the outside while soft on the inside. The octopus was slightly chewy but flavorful, and the entire dish wasn't so smothered in sauce I couldn't taste anything else. I would definitely come back for this appetizer. Tonkotsu ramen: I thought the ramen here was just okay, largely because the broth was incredibly salty and I couldn't taste much else. I appreciated that the broth was really thick and concentrated, but I diluted it down with twice the amount of water before it was drinkable. I could understand it perhaps acting as a dipping sauce instead of a ramen broth, but it was really hard to eat. Noodles were cooked well and chashu was good (none of that second-day refrigerator taste, which I appreciated). Toppings are all extra, including soft-boiled egg. I might give Kagawa another try in the future, especially because it's so close by. I'll definitely be getting the Takoyaki, but might think twice about the ramen. read more

Asked for no spicy miso and he put it on the side for me. Friend ordered the spicy miso paitan. We both added an egg. I was a bit disappointed in my broth as it wasn't as rich and creamy as I was thinking (there's an awesome place in SF that makes super yummy paitan) so a bit disappointed. I tried the spicy miso and it was spicy! Even my friend who likes spicy and expected to need to add more spice didn't need it lol. Ambiance is super casual, but the place echoes so even though it wasn't packed it sounded loud like it was. Asked for the check and to go containers--both were brought promptly. I got dinner here while visiting from out of town, I was very disappointed. I had the edamame and vegetarian ramen. First, service was quite slow, I think there was just one waiter working. The edamame was served immediately but it took about 20 min for the ramen to come out - I've been served much quicker at ramen restaurants. The real issue was that I did not like the ramen at all. It was supposedly spice level 1 but was too spicy for me. Also the broth tasted really weird, almost like there was milk in it? I couldn't place the flavor. We went to Ramen Kagawa 3 times and it was worth it every trip. Noodles are perfectly chewy and the broth is so rich! I can see why people say it's salty as it's pretty dense and thick but I enjoy it. (Also makes for good leftovers) My favorite is the Chicken Tai Pan ramen with the amazing fried chicken that isn't too heavy and has a nice smokey taste from the grill. I hadn't had chicken ramen before but after trying this one def my go-to order here. Their spicy ramen is also solid (like the one at Tampopo better) and my gfs tonkatsu ramen was like eating a warm bowl of hugs.
