I am a huge fan of Ramen San! I used to live by this location and would go all of the time. I usually get the Tantan-San Ramen and it is to die for - truly delicious through and through. In addition, the restaurant has a cool vibe that makes you feel like you are no longer in Chicago. I have tried their vegetarian sushi as well in the past and really enjoyed it. This spot is a really nice vibe with friendly staff. The restaurant is also able to meet the needs of those with mobility impairments and I just loved that! The ramen didnt have much flavor but it was good about 6/10. It needed more flavor and spice. They do have seasonings at the table and you can ask for the chili sauce. I didn't realize how famous this location was until we came in for a late lunch on a weekday. It was nicely laid out and decorated. My friend has raved about Ramen-San for ages, so when I saw a location had opened in Lincoln Park, I suggested we come for a Friday lunch. We arrived just after they opened at 11am and our server was super nice and attentive. He checked in on us regularly, walked through the menu and gave us some suggestions and swung by to apologize when they were having some music issues. The ambience is pretty cool, looks like a ramen bar in Tokyo, wood paneled throughout, those cute little cats with the swinging arms and a cool hip hop playlist in the background. In terms of the food, delish! The chicken nuggets came out super quick and were freshly fried, they were piping hot. The aioli that came along with the nuggets was bomb....I could have just eaten a bowl of that I reckon. The ramen was also delicious. The broth had a really great flavor, the mustard miso definitely came through, but nicely balanced. The portion size was also filling, I didn't finish my bowl. Server came back and left the check pretty promptly after we finished lunch, but indicated if we wanted anything else to let him know, he left it in case we needed to leave quickly because it was lunch. Sounds like a great deal but quite frankly I was expecting more. The service was good but the ramen was meh which was not helped by the fact that it was served slightly above room temperature. Delicious food with a traditional yet modern Japanese interior. I loved the crispy tofu bun, it was my favorite thing I had. It was absolutely amazing. Our server was also incredible and very kind. This new location has a cozy, perfect vibe for your ramen adventure. My go to order is their tonkatsu ramen with an extra egg and the most amazing fresh out of the can coca-cola that is perfectly poured into a glass full of ice. Each slurp of the delicious hot ramen is met with a cool down from the crisp taste of that ice cold coca-cola. I mean, it doesn't get any better! Take one of their fresh desserts to go. I recommend ordering their hot donuts towards the end of your meal then taking it home and to enjoy in your pjs while catching up on your favorite Hulu show, mine's "Fraiser." The hubs and I plan on making this a regular visit, especially on a nice fall afternoon or the winter nights ahead. read more

Good food + drinks, pleasant ambiance, and pretty good service. No complaints here. For the moderate size of their menu, Ramen San definitely covers a lot of ground. I wouldn't call Ramen San an ultra-traditional Japanese ramen shop, but they have something for everyone and I have enjoyed each of the experiences I've had here (both at the Lincoln Park and River North locations). There are options for folks with dietary restrictions too (vegetarian, pescatarian, etc.). They have some fun signature drinks - love doing the sake bombs - and signature ramen dishes. There's the classic tonkotsu (which is quite good) for traditionalists, and lots of fusion-y flavors as well. There's also usually a special that rotates; it was shrimp green curry ramen when I went last. They have a good variety of appetizers, and all the ones I have tried are great. The chicken karage comes to mind, and there was a tuna one I really enjoyed too. I get the tonkotsu ramen when I go and it is exactly what it should be. If you were worried that a modern ramen restaurant couldn't do the classics right, rest assured. It is warm, rich, and tasty with bouncy noodles and deliciously fatty chasu pork. The inside of the restaurant is contemporary and kind of moody. When it's nice out, they will pull up the front windows for an indoor-outdoor vibe. It's not formal at all, but I think this would be a good place to take anyone to eat. Parents, a date, whomever. I can't yet say if this is my favorite bowl of ramen in Chicago, but it definitely ranks. Would be happy to return, and will do so on an empty stomach. read more

Loved this place! My significant other and I went here after a happy hour down the street didn't satisfy our hunger. The staff was incredibly friendly, and made lighthearted jokes when we couldn't find the bathroom ( ask because they're not where you think they are). The turn on avocado tartare was fantastic, it was a good portion and the chips were great. I think one was wontons, and the other was puffed rice. It was so different and much better than other chips I've had with Tartare before. We also shared the kimchi fried chicken Ramen which was FIRE!
