Service and ambiance were nice without complaints there. I got the special ramen with the duck and dumplings. The presentation of the bowl was well put together. The gyoza were fried nicely too. The ramen itself tasted was good but wasn't memorable, considering how more expensive this was compared to the other ramen.
I had the most stressful first day of school, and I didn't plan on going here at all. I had parked 12 mins away from this spot, and it wasn't my first option. Even though I was having such a drag of a day and I had to cross mountains for my meal, I ended up having a great time. Maya was my server; she was super pretty, charismatic, and very patient with me, which made me feel a lot better about my day. I don't usually eat alone because I'm still very young, and I'm trying to get used to doing stuff solo, but with Maya as my server, I felt very at home an I didn't find myself feeling lonely at all! The feel of this Ramen San was so cool; the interior is so nice, and they even had Shrek playing!! Amazing soundtrack as well... 10/10 Highly recommend I ordered the 10-hour tonkotsu and the shrimp xoxo pork dumplings!! Two very delicious & safe options
This is a 5.0. Mantou are a MUST. Service was great, Japanese whiskey is refreshing and might, and the outside seating right on Green street is sized for a group of 4-6. This was a great experience, thank you RSWB team!

Ramen-San was such a lovely stop during my time in Chicago--definitely a vibe if you're looking for something fun, flavorful, and a little turn-up with your meal. Now I have to be honest... the one thing that really threw me off was the fruit flies. There were quite a few, and it honestly felt a little gross. I'm not sure if it was our seating area or something with the dishes at first, but it did take away from the experience a bit. BUT--let's get into the food because they did their thing: * Chili cucumber - 5/5 Sweet, spicy, refreshing... a perfect starter. I could've ordered another round. * Kimchi fried chicken ramen (with egg + extra buttered corn) - 5/5 BABY. This was that bowl. Rich, flavorful, comforting... I could eat this all the time. * Brussels sprouts - 4/5 Well-seasoned and solid. Nothing crazy, but they get the job done. * Crab rangoons - 4/5 Tasty, crispy, and filling--no complaints here. Drinks? They didn't come to play: * Penicillin #2 - 5/5 A smooth whisky moment. It sneaks up on you--giving Jack Honey + ginger vibes but more elevated and grown. * Hot sake - yum Simple, warm, and hits every time. * Yuzu sake bombs (we did 3... party style ) Surprisingly delicious and just fun. Highly recommend if you're with your people. Service: Our server was sweet, attentive, and checked in just enough without being overbearing--always appreciated. Overall: Despite the fruit fly situation (which I really hope was a one-off), the food and drinks carried. I'd still come back, maybe just be a little mindful of where I'm seated next time.
Stopped by for a late lunch and was able to enjoy their express lunch option. A great amount of food for the price! Service was quick and easy and overall a great location if you need a substantial lunch. Plus, they're able to substitute for GF noodles and molten egg! The edamame hummus with the nori was the surprise highlight for me!
Met my godson for dinner while my daughters were studying, working or on a flight meeting me for Family Weekend at U Chicago. Love to try the places that my children, nieces, nephews and godchildren recommend. They are always so much unique. I love being able to choose from the options they recommend. Easy to walk to Fulton Market on a chilly fall day. I love walking in Chicago (unless it is winter with plummeting temperatures.) Easy to get a table with an early dinner reservation. After work and before heading to the airport. We started with the fried chicken mantou buns. The steamed buns were so soft and fluffy. A delicious contrast to the fried chicken with shredded cabbage and Japanese mustard. Definitely try this as an appetizer. Next, it was time for ramen with loads of classic Tokyo wavy noodles from sun noodles. My godson had the 10 hour tonkotsu which he loved. I ordered the chicken shio with a chicken broth, chicken chashu, buttered corn, scallions and a molten egg. Nice to have options for both chicken and vegetarian broth. So good on a chilly night. Sat at a high top. Service was great. Never felt rushed on a Thursday night. Nice to be able to enjoy an evening catching up.
Food was delicious here! You can't go wrong with ramen. The service was quick and lovely. Nice dark ambient lighting for a cool vibe.
There's no one that will ever be able to convince me that Ramen San isn't good. They're quite tasty and always consistent. The ambiance is always amazing and the music is always a bop! One difference about this visit was that I came to learn they have a lunch menu option - even on the weekends! I'd never done lunch so I thought why not now? I ordered the Chicken Shio ramen, the Big Eye Tuna rice bowl and it came with a salad. For $17, this is a massive lunch. I ate a late dinner because I was just that filled. You receive nice lunch size portions of food to leave you satisfied and happy. I can't remember the name of my beverage but it was quite tasty. This is all to say, visit any ramen San location. You won't be disappointed.
Stopped here for a work lunch and it's was terrific! They had the perfect seating for our large group and the server was so efficient. The ambiance is modern and the place was spotless. The large bar centers the space and the poop emoji marking the loos was hilarious. We were all about the ramens on a cold day and the food came out quickly and was served warm-- not hot but at a good temp. I got the fried chicken and kimchee ramen. Timing is everything when you have fried chicken swimming in savory broth and it ate crispy (dark meat) and the kimchee was at the right level of fermentation. The noodles were spot on al dente too. A keeper if you're jonesing for ramen!
I always love it here when I visit, but recently I visited and they had new menu items and listen -- IM MORE IN LOVE! I tried their bang bang shrimp, omgggg still thinking about it!! & they had a new spritzer drink on the menu that I loveddddd!
I have been to other Ramen-San locations. On my first visit here, our party of 3 each opted for the express lunch. We all had the tonkotsu ramen with the karage and tuna as the rice plates. We all enjoyed the edamame hummus and the rice plates. The ramen noodles were a bit over cooked but the toppings were delicious. The pork was tender and my daughter loved the bamboo. All in all the food was great. We all left pretty full and actually had to take our rice plates to go. I will be back again to give them another shot.
I can't speak to the food, but as far as whisk(e)y bars go, this place was absolutely fantastic! I was looking for a calm whisky bar where I could sip that golden "uisge beatha" in relative peace. Yelp directed me here, and I decided to give it a go. I always thought of Ramen-San as a place that specializes in ramen and other Japanese goodies, but at this specific location, one of those goodies turns out to be whiskey! They have some tremendous things going for them: First, their selection of Japanese whiskies is very impressive! They have a wide variety of different brands and variants, with something for every palate and price range. I especially liked that they offer a 1-ounce and a 2-ounce option for each. Then there's the bar staff. The bartender I had the night of my visit was an absolute delight. He was clearly someone who not only had a tremendous amount of knowledge but also a person who genuinely loved his job. This is becoming more and more rare, and it made for a great experience. In terms of the vibe, while it may not be the most comfortable spot to spend several hours due to hard stools, it makes up for it by not being otherwise obnoxious. With all of this, while I can't speak for the ramen at this specific spot (I've had it at others), the whiskey portion of the experience was one I would love to repeat... maybe even slowly work my way down their list.

I was disappointed by the chicken shio ramen. The crab rangoon and 10-hour tonkatsu ramen were alright. We had a friendly server, and didn't need a reservation to sit at the high top tables on a Tuesday evening. The dim lighting and modern, fun vibe added to the overall experience. read more

Sooo this place was sooo damn good...we went on Saturday night and turned around and went back Monday night! Don't judge. We like what we like! Night 1: Sticky Wings, tonkotsu, kimchi and fried chicken w/ veggie broth, yuzu margarita, okinawa ol' fashioned Night 2: Sticky Wings, chicken & vegetable gyoza, tonkotsu, kimchi and fried chicken w/ veggie broth, yuzu margarita, okinawa ol' fashioned This will definitely be a staple when I'm in the Chi going forward. My family came here early March to celebrate my dad's birthday. I like that you can make reservations here since most ramen places don't. Ambiance: Seating area consists of high tables and booths. It's a small space so waiting for the table and walking in between can be a hassle. We were told there's a place in the back to hang up coats but no one seemed to know where that was. We ended up hanging them on the hooks underneath the table. Pretty good considering we were at a high table and space was cramped but they still touched the floor. The music was also loud so it's hard to hear the person across from you. Service: Our waitress was helpful. She gave us suggestions and checked back with us during the meal. Food: We ordered a few Mantou buns, mostly pork belly. They were good. I liked the pork belly over fried chicken. The dough was super thick and seemed to be pushing the meat out though. Seems pricey for $5/each. The ramen was great! I had the Tonkotsu bowl and it's become one of my favorites. Not too salty, the chashu was tender and melt in your mouth, and adequate amount of noodles. My parents enjoyed their bowls as well. My brother liked his Kimchi and Fried chicken bowl. My other brother and his gf weren't too fond of theirs though. He ordered the Sumo bowl and said there's too much going on that don't go well together. She had the Spicy Yuzu and thought the broth was too acidic. For the birthday dessert, our waitress gave us two ice cream cones: strawberry and lemon. Both had unnatural flavors but I still enjoyed the strawberry one. Additionally, we ordered the matcha cream puff. It came out with a candle and was HUGE. It tasted so good!!! I come for the Ramen. It provides a satisfying bowl of Ramen. Ate outside on a very pleasant night. Parking in the area can get very hard to find in this Fulton market area. We had 3 appetizers and 2 Sumo bowls. Since I am generally satisfied with this place I'll just list a few of quirks I didn't like. 1) Tuna Tartare- I'm from Hawaii and Poke is the way to. 1/2 inch chunks of fis with Ogo, onion, spice like Sambal. This was not that. 1/4 inch diced tuna on a layer of smashed avocado with shrimp chips and fried egg roll wrappers. It was good but needed some salt which is not one of the condiments on the table. 2) karaage, crisp good with a squeeze of lime and aioli. 3)Brussels spouts. You need you veggies. 4) Sumo bowl. My biggest complaint about Ramen in the US s that it is never hot (temp) enough. Should be steaming. It came out looking a little sloppy. The pork was chopped. I like a full bend of pork belly instead. The egg was chopped up too. I like to see a full half egg with the molten yolk looking at me. The extra noodles in this bowl were very filling. I noticed that extra noodles when ordered is priced at $5. In Japan it's more like a dollar. 100 or 200 yen. Despite my comments this remains a comfortable go to place for Ramen. read more
I love this little place. The service was great from seating to getting the check. The appetizers were great! I really loved the wontons, they tasted like good China Town. Also the wings were absolutely amazing and I would go back just to have these again. Whatever they put in that sauce, they snapped!!! The ramen was refreshing, it wasn't salty like some other places make their ramen. I'm not a fan of chicken ramen in general but my friend loves it because it's lighter. Didn't try the whiskey bar, even though it's in the name. Got a nice pic of it though lol. During COVID, they are open for dine in and patio seating. For dine in, they take your temperature and ask screening questions. There is a walk up window in which you order and pay at the window, and they bring you food where you sit. Broth is flavorful, yet light and fluid. If you like really creamy and thick broths, this might not be for you, but don't let it deter you because the flavor is all there. Got tonkatsu and green curry shrimp ramen. I wanted to try something different so I got the green curry shrimp ramen - the broth def has that Thai curry taste. It was not outright spicy, but the more you ate the more spicy it got. But I'm a wimp when it comes to spicy stuff so there's that. Got yuzu lemonade which was tasty and had that Yuzu twist to it, but it was $4 for a small glass. Why not 5 stars? Portions not as big for the price, but I'm used to American portion sizes so I'm pretty glutinous. read more

This place was not that good to be honest. Just walk around the corner for Ramen Takeya or wait 2 hours and go to High Five down the street. The ramen lacked so much flavor and the Berkshire pork tasted like American bacon, which does not go well with the ramen. Also, the waitress kept taking our used napkins when we were still eating 4-5x!!! Even the unused ones were taken and we had to ask for more. This place has bamboo straws though. My friends and I came across this place accidentally, after the wait time at another ramen spot was up to 2 hours! I'm so glad that happened, because this place was AMAZING. Our server was really nice and personable, and had tons of suggestions on what to drink and eat. It was a beautiful evening so we sat outside. Old school rap...check Super relaxed, but fun vibe...check Fantastic ramen...check Some delicious bao style buns...check Dumplings to DIE for...check So this place is like the ramen sister to Sushi-San in RN. We had some GC to use up so we had quite the spread at lunch. The dumplings weee amazing. I could've ate about 20 more. Sweet and a slight tang spice. Perfect. The buns were both good, but the fried chicken one blew the pork one out of the water. I loved the tangy horseradish Mayo...YUM! The wings were a swing and a miss. They did nothing for me. The fried chicken spicy ramen was heavenly and the tonkatsu was a delicious staple. I don't love the tables in the center of the restaurant.. they are just uncomfortable. Got the Chicken Shop ramen and I loved the broth and the chicken had a sweet kick to it which was interesting but the noodles felt a bit like a let down. We were craving something yummy for dinner and Ramen San is definitely yummy! We were ordering for pick up and had a hard time deciding what we wanted while reviewing all of the delicious sounding items on the menu. We finally settled on the Garlic Shrimp Mazeman, the Chicken Shio Ramen, the Tantan San Ramen, the Salad San, the Chinese Broccolli, the Spicy Kimchi, and the Fried Brussels. The garlic shrimp mazeman was a creamy garlicky shrimpy noodle festival! This dish was rich, yummy, and satisfying. The chicken shio ramen included a classic chicken broth, chicken chashu, buttered corn, scallions, molten egg, and nori. This ramen bowl was perfectly spiced with an excellent combination of ingredients. So good! The tantan san ramen was constructed with vegetable broth, sesame miso, braised crimini, bok choy, fresh tofu, and sesame chili oil. Very tasty! The Chinese broccoli was an excellent version of this popular dish. The fried brussels were special with their superior preparation and delectable flavor. The spicy kimchi was just the right combination of tanginess and spicy goodness. Ramen San was a great find and we will need to come back to try the other tempting items on the menu. read more

The ramen itself was very mediocre, the broth wasn't not rich and had a very one dimensional flavor profile. The Karaage chicken nuggets were good and definitely stood out more than ramen! The service was also good and timely. I wouldn't recommend coming here for the ramen but if you are just looking for a place to chill for a bit in Fulton Market (we know much much waiting there can be in the area), it can be a place to go to for the snack and drinks. read more

I stopped off at this place for a quick dinner late one evening on an august summer night and the outdoor seating was filled to capacity. So I sat at the bar and enjoyed a bowl of the fried chicken and kimchi ramen as it was highly recommended by many other reviewers. I'd have to agree with the consensus that the bowl is packed with flavor and supreme ingredients. I would definitely go back and try some other goodies on the menu. read more

I'm not sure when my love for ramen became a thing but if you're in Chicago you need to go to this staple place to try some excellent-filling-most-savory ramen. A group of 13 people went in there over the weekend and the place was popping at 10:30pm on a Saturday night. I ordered the chicken shio sushi: it was at the right temperature, the egg was cooked precisely and the noodles and broth were extremely tasty. I've heard the spicy chicken ramen is the most amazing thing over there but I was already amazed with this plate. To celebrate the birthday we ordered sake shots! It was a sake shot thrown into a cup with beer and it surprisingly really good. I'm not a fan of beer but that combination was great! Not too strong, not too bland! The place did not meet our expectations in terms of having a table ready at our reservation time but thankfully I was in no rush. I would just make sure to arrive on time and talk to the host as often as possible to get you in! read more

As my ramen search continues, I decided to take a trip down to Ramen-San and give the Tonkatsu ramen a try. Although this place does not ascend to my #1 ramen spot in the city, I do think Ramen-San gave a solid effort. I did think the Tonkatsu ramen was done pretty well and I did appreciate the more extensive menu. I also tried a pork bun and the side of kimchi and I was not disappointed with either. The restaurant itself is trendy and spacious. There was great music playing and the decor itself just gives off a refreshing vibe. The servers were great and explained the menu and answered any questions we had. Prices were good-I didn't feel like anything was out of the ordinary when it comes to portions and cost. I think if I'm in the area, I would definitely stop by Ramen-San again. I'm not mad at their Tonkatsu ramen-it's not my most favorite, but it gets he job done. I didn't leave dissatisfied! read more
