The tonkatsu soup base is quite good. The ramen is not chewy enough. It was too soft. The gyoza was good. However, how can a restaurant not have apple juice and orange soda when they were listed on the menu? That was not acceptable. Will I visit again in the future? Probably. I get spicy ramen with fried rice and it comes with gyoza. The portions are large for the price, so it's a good deal! Every time I've eaten here the service is pretty quick and the food comes hot and fresh. I wouldn't eat here for dinner because I there are better ramen places near by. We went with the Combo A which is the Beef Ramen and we also got the Chicken Katsu Curry. Free Gyoza was included and it was yummy ! What I love about these kind of establishments is that the portion size is generous so you always get a bang for you buck! When the ramen came out as well as the Katsu Curry it was Piping Hot . Good indicator that everything was fresh! I had to actually blow on my Katsu in order just to chew so I appreciate that . The broth of the ramen was just right especially add the hint of Chilli Oil to it. The Katsu though has to be my absolute favorite. The outside was nice and crispy and the chicken was juicy . They sell individual plate lunches and/or saimin bowls. The restaurant appears clean and service was really fast. I had the spam katsu curry combo. My wife had the mochiko chicken combo. My oldest had a regular sized spam katsu curry. There is a lot of parking since it's located in the Kapolei Commons shopping plaza. We really didn't have a server because the initial server came to take our order and someone else brought it out in a matter of 10 minutes and never saw anyone else again. After picking up our matinée movie tickets at Kapolei's Regal Theater, we decided to roam over to Ramen-Ya for lunch. Located in the same shopping complex as the theaters, Kapolei Commons, this Ramen-Ya was nearby to the Down to Earth market, T-Mobile and Genki Sushi opposite from the theaters. The restaurant was clean and nicely decorated like a typical Japanese ramen shop. Upon entry, we were cheerfully greeted and seated at one of their 4-top tables. Being a franchised chain restaurant, their menu was similar to their Waipio site. Our server came by with huge glasses of iced water and took our order as we mentioned that we only had about an hour to dine. She said "no problem" and sure, enough, service was indeed quick and accurate. THE FOOD: -Ma-Po tofu ramen: Ma-po tofu (classic Sichuan dish of silken tofu, ground pork, spicy fermented bean sauces) over ramen. This bowl of ramen was generously portioned and was mildly-spiced. My husband liked this ramen but added a bit more chili oil to liven this dish up. $8.25 -Gyoza ramen: There were 5 plump gyoza served in the steaming hot broth. The noodles were plentiful, too. Although the gyoza were plump, I thought they were bland as they were filled with lots of chopped cabbage and ground pork. The blandness and somewhat thick wrappers were disappointing. And I didn't finish my lunch even after adding some chili oil. $8.25 -Pan fried gyoza : 6 pieces of golden brown and plump gyoza were served to us. Unfortunately, these gyozas were just as bland as those boiled ones in my ramen. But, the "redeeming" quality about these gyoza was their inexpensiveness as they were priced at 6 pieces for $4.50. This Ramen-Ya is average. Their service was very good. Would I drive out 23 miles just to eat here, again? Probably not but we were more interested in seeing a movie. read more

I ordered the chicken Katsu ramen and it was decent BUT did not blow me away!! I believe sacramento's ramen is better! The chicken Katsu was crispy and tender and the broth was very mild.... We stopped into Ramen-Ya late this past Tuesday night after the movie got out. Normally I don't like to eat a lot of carbs at night but whatever she wants is fine. Ramen-Ya has a great combo special. For only $9.75, you may choose from either Roman or wonton soup with four pieces of gyoza and one choice from many selections. I chose the beef curry and she chose the chicken karaagei. It was a lot of food for only $9.75. Honestly, the wontons seemed a little under done because some of the wonton seedmed firmer & darker than the outside. Her chicken karaage was delicious as was my beef curry. I'm a big eater and I couldn't finish most of the beef curry so I packed it to go. My friend also couldn't finish her chicken and gyoza so she also packed it to go. Service is fast and friendly but if you go when they are busy, there might be a wait. Be sure to go in and let the cashier know that you are waiting and they will write a number for you and call you when your table is ready. We were told 15 to 20 minute wait but it was less than five. Great Hawaiian/Asian comfort food for very little money, everything ranges from about $8-$10, rarely ever breaking the $10 mark. Food is very flavorful, comes out of the kitchen piping hot, and of course, the gyoza happy hour from 2pm-5pm is king. You can have them prepared either steamed or deep fried. Chicken karage is really well marinated. Large portion of chicken served with 2 scoops of rice and 1 scoop of mac salad. Chicken katsu curry could feed a family of 4 easily. You'll definitely have leftovers for days. Staff are very friendly, super fast to seat you and bring out your orders. They are very accommodating if you need more sauces, water, or other items. This place isn't simply about large quantities at low prices, the food really is delicious, great quality, and the staff have genuine "aloha spirit."
