Love this place because they're great with last minuet seating accommodations! I get off work late, but by the time we get there for dinner, it's about 30 mins before closing. Ramen-Ya is very similar to Genki Ramen in Mililani. I'd been to the Ramen-Ya out in Pearl City, so I was familiar with their menu. The only real difference between Genki Ramen and Ramen-Ya is that you're able to make your own combo meal instead of picking from a set. My friend wanted chicken Katsu curry with her mini ramen and 4-piece gyoza combo. She could have also chosen fried rice, gyoza curry, or some other choices. I decided to get a mabo tofu ramen. It wasn't too spicy and the taste wasn't too overwhelming. It's a small place, but conveniently located near the Starbucks in the Costco shopping complex. Overall, the quality of food here is horrendous. Being new to the island and having lived in Japan for 14 years, I know Ramen. I was raised eating and enjoying the deliciousness of real Japanese food. Granted, I understand we're not in Japan and I expected the food to be somewhat localized. However, the lack of flavor in their food is unjustifiable! The broth is absolutely bland, I found myself drowning my ramen with soy sauce, chili oil, and chili powder. It was almost unbearable to eat, I could have gotten better quality ramen from one of those $1 pack you find at donquite. I am giving it two stars because, if you're on a budget you can definitely purchase one combo which comes with a mini ramen, your choice of either fried rice, different curried, and a side of gyoza for about $10 after tax. Personally, I think the portions are huge and can feed more than two people. If you're looking for quality ramen, run far far away. The staff was friendly and attentive, but that's about all the praise I can muster. My wife and I ordered two bowls of ramen and a plate of chicken fried rice. In under five minutes our order of fried rice gets to the table, which should have been the first clue about this place. Our chicken was dry, stiff, and lacked any flavor. The dish as a whole seemed to lack salt, and strangely wasn't steaming hot. It felt as though the fried rice was reheated. Life did not get better with the ramen, which somehow got to the table minutes after the rice. Our noodles were over cooked on the verge of being slimy, the meat was tough, and the broth had less flavor than canned soup. Bad idea, first time to any Ramen Ya and the unagi was horrible, they either didn't grill it long enough or steam it...or in fact I think they just warmed it in the microwave because it was soo tough with a thick layer of fat that I spent most of my time trying to peel off in hopes it'll get better but it didnt. My boyfriend and I came here because I wasn't feeling well and I wanted ramen (which is rare because I love my udon). Anyway, we were seated right away and the girl who helped us handed us the menus quickly. The staff were really helpful and the servers were so quick to take our orders, bring our food, give refills on drinks, take our dirty dishes, and give us our check. They did everything quickly and with ease and I liked that they didn't bother me as much as some other restaurants. Went here for lunch and it was pretty packed. There's just two ladies working the front and it was a little slow. But, I came here to EAT! I had the Big Ramen which was tasty but there was a bit too much bean sprouts and cabbage. This ramen bowl was the size of a newborn bath tub! The toppings were kamaboko, slice of pork, veggies, half a boiled egg and chicken katsu. Couldn't finish the whole thing after I ate all the toppings. Husband had the Spicy Beef ramen which he said was tasty. We also shared the Kim Chee fried rice. It had a good balance of flavors and not too many other "fillers" to dilute the kim chee taste. I am a fan of Ramen-Ya and live close by to this location. Good pricing on their menu items, generous portions, convenient location, helpful staff. This Ramen-Ya is located by Waipio Costco - by the Starbucks. There is an adequate amount of parking stalls around the area and I never had to desperately search for parking before, although some of the stalls may be tight. Happy Hour is from 2-5 PM where you get 4 pieces of gyoza with a purchase of any entree. I like free things and I enjoy their gyoza, but had better elsewhere. I ordered the Chicken Katsu Curry - they give generous portions and you will not leave feeling hungry. Somehow I managed to scarf down everything.. haha. Depending on the day I feel that the curry could have a little more flavor to it or have some carrots or potatoes to it. The dish came with A LOT of rice and maybe a little less curry than I'd like, and the chicken used wasn't the meatiest. But still good in my opinion. This place is on the smaller side but doesn't get filled up all at once with maybe around 30+ seating. The staff are very friendly and will get your food out in no time - very little waiting maybe 6-10 minutes. This place is less than 5 min away from where I live, so I am very grateful to have a ramen shop so close by. I usually order a combo set. You get three items for under $10. That's a great deal. I usually get set A which is a mini ramen (perfect size) with 4 gyoza and 1 additional item. I usually chooses the beef curry. The curry is a generous portion, so I usually try to finish the ramen and take home the curry if I can't finish everything. As far as flavor, the ramen is average but not bad. Nothing distinctive about the noodles or the broth, but that probably makes it easier to please most people adequately. Same with the gyoza and the curry. Can't beat the shops in town that have their signature flavors, but it's not bad at all here. Not too salty either, which again will be good for many customers. My only complaint is that they bring out the food as they cook it. Not bad if that's how you like it, but I don't like to eat if other people don't have food also, and I don't like that the gyoza comes out last. If you wait for all of it, something will be cold. I guess it works for their kitchen, but not necessarily for the diner. And a table that came in after us got their gyoza at least 10 mins before us...hmmmm... Anyway, it's a good deal and I'll be back again, so maybe takeout is the better way to go anyway, especially since the place is kinda small, about 10 tables. read more

I was craving ramen but didn't see anything online that was open at the evening hour I went. It was a first for me, and probably the last. I ordered take out for a group of us. I got the chicken katsu ramen. Ramen was just really bland and watery, no flavor. Noodles were too soft for my taste. Others in the group said the same. Since we got our order to go, they boxed it up real nice for us and in separate containers for the noodles/broth. Based on the service, I bumped it up to 3 stars from a 2 which is based on the food.
