RamenYa at Waipio on Ka Uka Blvd is open for take out orders. The food is good and satisfying. I enjoy their Combo B that includes Won Ton soup, four Mondoos, and Chicken Katsu Curry. Another favorite is their Seafood Crispy Noodle dish. We made a stop on Friday and made a take out order. They were fast and pleasant. I was happy with our order. The other day, I went to pick up my sister and brother-in-law from the airport as they returned home from a month long vacation. As I was driving them home, my sister said how much she missed the food and flavors of Hawaii and she had a craving for ramen. Fortunately, my "noodlehead" sense was reminded by fellow Maui Yelper, Vikéndios' ramen posts. I suggested Ramen-Ya even though I had never been to one before and didn't even know the location of the nearest one. My sister quickly chimed in to mention that she knew of 2 locations, one in Pearl City which we had passed and the second site at Waipio near the Costco. I asked them if they would have preferred that I take them home to unload their luggage or if they felt safe to leave their luggage in the car while dining. I must say that she must've been "homesick" or hungry as we approached the Waipio exit she exclaimed "turn, NOW". This Ramen-Ya is located in the Laniakea Plaza behind the Costco on Ka Uka Boulevard. There is ample parking in an open lot facing the restaurant but sometimes parking gets really crowded as there are other businesses in this plaza. My sister recommended that I get the Tan Tan Ramen while she shared her order of cold noodles with her husband. - Tan Tan Ramen ($9.25): The steaming hot broth was definitely flavorful and aromatic. There were 2 thick slices of tender chasu, some green vegetable and half of a hard-cooked egg. The portion is quite large and only comes in one size. The ramen noodles were thick, round, eggy(?) strands of yumminess. The noodles even had a nice chew to them. I happily slurped up all of the noodles and drank nearly all of the spicy-sesame seed flavored broth. - Cold Noodle ($8.25): Atop a bed of cooked and chilled noodles was a colorful and healthy julienned arrangement of cucumber, fishcake, egg omelette, poached chicken, chasu and pickled ginger. A slightly vinegary-sweet sauce had already been added so the noodles started to pick up its flavors. This dish took a bit longer to come out from the kitchen as I had already dug into my Tan Tan ramen. But, as soon as the server put the plate down, my sister dove into the noodles by mixing the toppings in and the slurp-fest began. She did share some of her dish with her husband who said he wasn't hungry but managed to eat the whole plateful. The service was attentive and friendly. Our water glasses were refilled consistently without our asking. The only thing that I found a little annoying was the thin paper napkins...geez, they just seemed to disintegrate when they got wet. I wanted to finally try this place out. I ordered the big bowl ramen and a mochiko chicken plate. I think I waited about 10 minutes and then my food came out. The mochiko chicken was super crispy. There was barely any chicken but it was nice and tasty along with rice and Mac salad. The big bowl ramen came with a lot of things. The soup was a bit too salty for me but my boyfriend enjoyed it. Pulled up to try this place for the first time. Upon pulling up, the cook (tall guy with a black adidas hat) was in the back without his mask on, eating his food. We sat in the car to watch for a few minutes. He proceeded to grab a napkin and wipe his face multiple times. Then put his finger in his mouth to pick food out of his teeth. After that, he finally put the mask on his CHIN. He then wiped his mask over his shoulder and walked off. I am absolutely disgusted to see this type of behavior during a pandemic. Location: They are located in Wapio in the same shopping center as the drive thru Starbucks across from Costco. There is decent parking at this shopping center but the parking spaces are small. Food: Two adults and a child shared a chicken katsu curry plate and a combo set that included a small ramen, gyoza and curry with fried gyoza. The food was good and the portion size was generous. However, I happen to sit facing the kitchen and I saw the cooks putting fried chicken into clear containers then placed it under a table a few inches off the ground. Yuck. Very Disappointing. Price: The prices are reasonable. You can definitely get full off a regular plate and combo set. The combo set was around $10 and the regular plates were less than $10. Overall, I would NOT come back to this location because of how they are storing and handling food in the kitchen. I would not want my family getting sick. read more

The wait time was about 13mins, We got our Ramens first then our appetizer and we were both thinking we should've gotten our appetizers first not the ramen.... We tried the Mochiko chicken and it was so dry! Like so dry to the point where the sauces wont help to make it taste any better. Then we tried the Gyoza and it was pretty bad. It didn't taste fresh it tasted like it was frozen like its from Costco frozen! It didn't have any taste and it was pretty hard to eat. Then me and my friend tried our ramen, we noticed right away without trying the broth that its not gonna be spicy. We tired it and it wasn't spicy at all. Then the lady saw me pouring a lot of chili oil into my ramen and came around and said "oh I'm so sorry i forgot to tell them to make it more spicy, I'm sorry". We've eaten here a few times. It's pretty straightforward. You go here for affordable ramen, fried rice, or fried noodles that are served in incredibly large portions. I'm talking enough for 2 or 3 meals. You are not paying for quality. C'mon peeps. You can't expect to pay that little for that large a portion and have it taste like it's ramen from Hokkaido. If you go in expecting that then you are living in a fantasy world. So yah, I've accepted when I've gone here that I will leave feeling full but wishing for better flavor. But, at the end of the day, its a restaurant that serves a purpose and we keep coming back. Also, they prepare the food pretty damn fast. read more

I've been coming here for years and when I do I usually come here when I need a quick ramen fix. I almost always get the tan tan ramen, side of mochiko chicken, shrimp fried rice, and of course the gyoza. Customer service is okay haven't had any problems so far. The restaurant is really tiny always makes me feel claustrophobic so I tend to do take out instead. Parking is shared with Starbucks which sucks because it's always taken. I don't prefer their tan tan, and the pork that comes with it is a bit dry. Haven't been to Ramen-Ya in a very long time! This is my original go-to spot for Mabo tofu ramen. For some reason tonight it had a little bit of an after taste that made it hard to eat, but the mochiko chicken & gyoza made up for that. I still left happy and full. I probably won't be back for a while for the mabo tofu ramen though :( My boyfriend got the Miso ramen and it was okay. I guess I'm just spoiled from the new ramen spots on the island. Personally, I wouldn't eat there again. Although my friends eat there on a weekly basis, I didn't care for it. I absolutely love the Tan Tan from Goma Tei, so comparing both, its no where close but not that far off in price The ramen from Ramen-Ya, tasted like typical "fast food" ramen kinda tasteless. The soup base doesn't have that rich flavor I enjoy as with Goma Tei. Sorry to compare, but as I mentioned the price is comperable. And as for Ramen-Ya, the portion is generous, the pork is flavorful, but it is overloaded with seaweed that overtake the whole flavor. If you're looking for a good sit-in restaurant in Waipio with reasonable prices, this place is BOMB. I'm not familiar with many of the ramen places, but compared to all the other restaurants here in Waipio, this would be my top choice. The choices are great and you get a lot of bang for your buck. I got what I think is called Meal A, which was great. I believe it was around $9 for your choice of one of two Ramens, four pieces of Gyoza and another choice of the listed menu items. I chose Fried Rice. I never finish my meal. The service is amazing. Very nice ladies, fast in and out, always had drinks refilled fast and food came out fast, hot and easily. Quick take out review so just food and no service or restaurant notes. Ordered the Set A with Chicken Katsu Curry. Great, Japanese style brown curry and flavor was decent though the veggies and things seemed lacking. Just wished there was a bit more curry since they are generous with the rice. The ramen itself was rather flavorless, due to the soup not being seasoned, and the consistency was saimin like. The gyoza is good but I'm told you have to request pan fry or you end up eating a deep fried version that can't be as good. On the positive side you get a lot of food for what you pay for. read more

I haven't been to any other Ramen-ya but I know that there are some other locations on the island. Kinda weirded me out that it was run by chinese people considering ramen is a Japanese dish. That being said... Talk about fast! From the time that I got there to the time I ate and left it was only about 30-40 minutes or so...And I don't even like to eat fast. Since I went by myself I took a moment to look around while I ate. I got a standard bowl of ramen with gyoza. It was tasty with lots of vegetables...the only thing I was not a fan of was the over abundance of bean sprouts. I found out afterwards that I could have asked for the bowl without as much sprouts. The food was only ok at best, but for the price ($18) plus leftover fried rice, you can't really complain too much, hence the 3 star rating. The goma miso ramen was way too salty but the flavor was actually not bad. The portion was big. For the mini set, the ramen wasn't very good and my wife had to add shoyu to add flavor, maybe she should have used the goma miso soup? Fried rice was good but the gyoza was a little bland, could only taste some ginger and pork. Service is not very friendly but very quick and efficient. This is a go to place for quick fast food type ramen. Keep in mind this is NOT Asia therefore it will not meet Asias standards. This is a chain, and is treated as such. I have eaten here quite often and the food is consistent as well as the service. Regarding the service when I say "consistent" I don't mean it as a good thing. I do understand they are from a different county and their will be a barrier as as language and manners goes but a smile and not rushing us to order would be nice. I had the shoyu ramen tonight but tonight unfortunately the soup was overwhelmed with sprouts. I love spouts but it would have been nice to taste a bit more flavor from the soup If I could give this place a 2.7 stars I would but hey it's the holidays and 3 was sort of my only option read more

Great deal for a big lunch that had me & my fiancé take some to go! Walking in, the space seem alright, not as snugged in as the one in Kapolei & Pearl City so that's a plus. Was greeted and seated right away with the menu handed to us as she asked what kind of drink we wanted (water ofcourse) and it came quickly. The service was great, they were friendly & made sure everything was okay & asking if we wanted more refills. So for that I gave it a 5 star rating! Now for the food, they may not have a wide choice of selections on the menu, but it was reasonable enough to leave you satisfied portion wise!
