I have had excellent service here. The menu is unique and has some great options. I loved their French toast.

I was SO happy to find out that they not only had GF bread, but also *gluten-free batter* for fried goodies, and I had my first friend chicken sandwich in YEARS. It was quite tasty. Great spot to get a nice lunch before heading back into town after a big hike. read more

So I ordered the chicken feta salad ..... honestly the worst 10 dollar salad I have had in 30 years ! It had romaine but all I got was the butt of the stalks . A few years ago this place had the best chicken fried steak in town. It was awesome! Not sure when they decided to buy grey, super processed, paper thin, cardboard like meat substitute and pass it off as homemade but that was a turning point. We have tried to return several times to see if things have changed. Last night was no different. Until they go back to what they were doing (real homemade) this place is not worth it. read more

Ordered the "House Favorite": Chicken Cordon Bleu. The chicken was as tough as an old turkey leg a week after Thanksgiving: I had to work hard to cut it with a steak knife, and the fork bent during the effort. Flavor was fine, and I ate it as I didn't have time to re-order. Told the waitress, "I don't want anything free, but you need to let the chef know that either the preparation or cooking of this has a big problem." She smiled and nodded. No response. Passing thru small town of Ramona and came across Ramona Cafe during breakfast hours so our group decided to give it a try. Waitress was personable, pleasant and accommodating. Off to a great start. Unfortunately the food left much to be desired.... thus the two star rating. The French toast seemed like days old bread that no amount of syrup could drown. The potato dish looked delectable but really only had a hint of flavor. The ham in the omelette was the only stand out, very yummy. Chicken fried steak was ok but again the gravy really didn't have anything to rave about- just ok. I know that this may sound kind of harsh and do realize that this is a homey small town cafe. I come to Ramona a couple times a month and I've been wanting to try this place. So myself, along with 3 other co-workers came in for Breakfast. All 4 of us were in awe of the flavor and amount of food they give you. The gravy for staters is top notch. I got the Plowboy and I know I'm coming back again. It was the perfect combination of breakfast items scrambled up with eggs. Wish I wore my stretchy waistband to The Ramona Cafe, where quality and quantity meet. Ordered 2 liver and onions and one chicken fried steak dinners . Worst food I have ever eaten will never go back again they use margarine in place of butter , terrible tasting honey , ketchup pored into containers tasted rancid. Liver old and tasted like leather . Chicken fried steak no favor . Gravy came from a package . Mashed potatoes had no flavor and lumpy. Canned corn not even hot . Never again will step food in there . We had the famous pecan cinnamon roll recommended by diners drive-ins and dives. It was delicious and enough for two or three people to share. I had the cob salad and my boyfriend had a mushroom bacon and cheddar cheese omelette. Both were delicious. I can highly recommend this casual restaurant for breakfast and lunch. Visited today for lunch. Amazing food, friendly staff, and I brought home one of their famous cinnamon rolls. It brought back a lot of childhood memories. I haven't been here in years. My sister and I used to go weekly with our grandparents. They knew everyone. As soon as we entered through the back, they would say hi to the cooks, waitresses, the owner and several customers. We stopped specifically for the cinnamon rolls three of us split two , And for you still taking home half of each...we tried the apple and the caramel Pecan on Apple was a little dry as was Pecan n but still very good if they were this good a little dry I can only imagine if they were fresh...well worth the stop read more

I'd love to try their food. However, after an hour and a half wait for our food and still no sign of anything, we're getting it to go, very frustrated and hungry. The restaurant wasn't even busy, just mild traffic for a small cafe in the middle of nowhere. The staff were apologetic, but obviously didn't care much, as they never updated us on what was going on, nor wanted us of there being a wait prior to even ordering, and only checked up on us twice in the span of that hour and a half. Absolutely ridiculous, I'm sure it has good food, according to other reviews on this restaurant, but I'd ask how long the wait will be before you order. read more

October 7 2007 We watched that show "Diner, Drive Ins and Dives" with Guy Fieri and he reviewed this place in Ramona CA. Since I was taking my family to San Diego for Vacation, we made a special trip just to try this place out. We arrived shortly after a lunch rush so it was starting to die down a bit. However we ordered and it took us about 45 minutes before we got our order. My order was not bad, it was a chicken cordon blue. The real disappointment came when my oldest daughter ordered fish and chips. Towards the end of her meal she informs us that it was cold in the middle of her fish. I touched the center of what was left of her fish and it was FROZEN! I dont mean cold because it was sitting around, I mean cold as in ice cold! Then the topper was that we ordered the "Huge" cinnamon bun that Guy was showing on the show. The one we got was not as big as we thought it was and we noticed other tables were getting bigger portions of this. And to top that, we were charged 8 bucks for this thing. Which is why we didnt see the price on the menu. Not coming back here, Guy steered us wrong on this one! read more

TO EVERYONE THAT EATS AT RAMONA CAFE AND HAS HAD BAD/SLOW SERVICE, DRY OR COLD FOOD, SMALL PORTIONS FOR LARGE PRICES, ETC: I have lived in Ramona my entire life (24 years) and used to go to Ramona Cafe to attempt to enjoy what I thought would be a good little place to eat in a small town... Oh man, was I wrong. This place has never improved, since I can remember. There prices are outrageous for the quality of food and portion sizes you get. Don't even try to order anything to drink besides water. For about $3 for soda, tea, etc you would expect that your waitress would be more willing to come back and check if you need refills. Not wait until you're ready to leave and say "Oh, would you like a refill on your drink now?" (STUPID!) My grandpa continues to eat at this awful place and I never understand why. His food is always cold, they always over charge him and forget to bring items that he ordered with his meal and it still shows up on his bill. Then when you tell them, the get fussy and don't want to either give you the item(s) that you ordered, or take it off the bill since you never even received it! I always try to support my local family-owned businesses, but this place I wish would go out of business so someone can do something better with the building space... Just saying.. If you are looking for a good place to eat, TRY KOUNTRY KITCHEN down the street next to Chevron in Ramona. It is a little "hole in the wall", family-owned place that is still waiting to be discovered, but their food is amazing! and reasonably priced. Sometimes the waitress is slow, but the fact that their food is delicious and their portion sizes are priced accordingly to what you are receiving on your plate makes it worth it! Came here for lunch on a sunny day in November. I bought the $5.99 lunch special, burger and fries. I added cheese to the burger and a little guacamole. Turns out, that hiked the bill to $8. Okay. The iced tea was $3 and the cinnamon roll was $4.75, I had a heart attack when my little lunch bill came to $3 change from a $20! OMG! I eat here everytime I come to Ramona, but each time I am less impressed. Like a shooting star that gets dimmer the farther away it gets-- I think this place peaked in 2009 (3D trip from Food Network) and is now just average. There were two walCreatures smoking next to strollers on the "patio" which is actually the sidewalk right next to busy Main Street, the tobacco stink poured right into the restaurant. The bun wasn't fresh or toasted, the burger patty was thin, they mixed up who gets the tomato-- the "homey" decor gets more kitchy each time I see it... So, after four trips in six months, I can confidently say: "Meh." And, that ends my love affair with Ramona Cafe. P.S. I ate the cinnamon roll at home and it was stale. Like Krispy Kreme these little devils are best served hot and fresh inside the place. read more

The folks at the Bischer's meat market in Ramona assured us that this was the best local place for breakfast. I'm going to have to assume that Ramona generally eats their breakfast at home if this is considered tops for a morning meal. The food was borderline "nasty" and I'm not that picky. Additionally, the bill came to $28 for; brown scrambled eggs, forgotten toast, flabby-undercooked bacon, weak coffee and the most lax service we've had in a long time. Grab a pastry at the local coffee shop and save some time and cash. If you want basic bacon and eggs (not a 2 lb sweet roll) this isn't the place for you. read more

The hubby and I stopped in here for lunch one day when we were going through Ramona. The "Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives" sign hanging out front is what made us try it, and I was excited to try a place featured on the show. All I can say to that is don't be fooled! Apparently everything you see on TV isn't true? Wish I would have know that before we ate there. The place itself was fine. Definitely worthy of the Diner/Dive title, which I am fine with. I am not afraid of outdated decor and our table wasn't sticky, so I was good. The food was the problem. I got the Chicken Cordon Bleu (CCB) that was featured on the show, and the hubby got the Chicken Fried Steak. The CCB was bland, that is really all there is to say about it. It just doesn't taste good. I got fries with mine, which were nothing to speak about. Just a total disappointment and it wasn't even served really hot. Hubby's meal, according to him, was the same. I didn't try the Chicken Fried Steak, because I am not a fan of that to begin with. I did try the cornbread that came with his though, and it was dry and tasteless. The coffee that I ordered was the best part of the meal and even that wasn't piping hot. Verdict: I wouldn't even give it a second chance. The Yelp rating stands. This place has a low rating for a reason. read more

A Ramona landmark, home of the giant cinnamon rolls, today took SO LONG to prepare and serve our simple breakfasts, I wondered if the cook had quit. It took nearly 1/2 hour to serve pancakes, bacon, and scrambled eggs. If my wife, son, and I had gone to Denny's, we'd have been done with breakfast in the amount of time it took for us to be served. My family and I love this place! Whenever I want some American food, with American type service, I go to Ramona Cafe. I also like their western decor. I've never had to wait to be seated or to receive service from their wait staff. I really enjoy the payment system here. No need to wait for your check, walk up to the counter, pay the bill and pick your tip all in a quick less than a minute transaction. Awesome! I love their chicken friend steak dinner or chicken fried steak breakfast mmmmmmmm. You actually get a piece of steak underneath the breading unlike some other places. They also have great build your own breakfast bowls. I'm going to have to cut this review short because my mouth is starting to water. I'll be going here probably tomorrow or the next day. read more

Another great meal at Ramona Cafe! Sonja remembered us from last time and was very friendly. Chris had a grilled vegetable sandwich, and she loved it. Large portion size and perfectly grilled. I had bacon and eggs with hash browns and a huge biscuit. Yum, the bacon was lean and tasty -- and lots of it. All of the service was quick and friendly. This is probably the worst restaurant I have been to in recent memory. The servers were rude, didn't speak when they brought out the food, just slammed it down on the table, and instead of asking if we wanted more coffee, they just came to the table held the pot up and looked at us. The food was lukewarm and gave both my husband and I terrible upset stomachs the whole day. Food poisoning? We only both had about 4 bites each because it was inedible. Seriously? The ladies room was the worst public bathroom I've ever been in. It smelled like sour milk and the two filthy toilet plungers next to the door propped between the toilet and the wall were disgusting. My husband had similar complaints about the guys restroom as well. I will never, ever even look at this place when drive by. That's how gross it was. Wish I could give it negative stars! read more

Food was good, service was unacceptable! I saw the reviews before coming here and like the goober that I am felt that "it wouldn't happen to me". Stopped here on a road trip to the west and while the food was good the service was the worst I've received in months! We were told to "seat ourselves" and then promptly forgotten by the wait staff. I enjoyed my company and conversation but the final straw was when the table next to us that sat down after us was SERVED their food before a waitress had deemed us worthy to put in an order. The wait staff had a skill in walking past tables and not making eye contact to avoid the work. When we finally placed the order there was no effort made to be cordial, it was cold & wooden. The food that came out was good but the overall experience was such a let down that it was a shame. We'd have complained to the hostess/person taking the bill but they never made eye contact or even asked how the meal was. Heed my warning FIND SOMEWHERE ELSE TO EAT! read more

when i saw this place was on diners, drive-ins & dives. i almost fell out of my chair. I grew up in Ramona and ate here as a kid and young adult (in the 90's) and never would have thought it would make it on tv, let alone anything in Ramona. I went about a year ago and still the same old diner food that's good if you're 78+. i know my review is late, and as I stated a year old, but some things never change. read more

We ordered the patty melt, the beggie sandwich and the flamethrower burger...all three dishes were disappointing. Or lettuce, onions and tomatoes where limb, the patties on the patty melt was dry and over cooked with BARELY ANY cheese and the French Fries were soggy.  Tough to give a place a second chance when all four plates ordered were bad. read more
