I substitute ham with tomatoes and some pleases are weird about it, but the owner here was amazing about it. No problems. The hollandaise sauce was on point! The perfect consistency. The home fries were also pretty tasty. Definitely a good portion, but a by too much for me to finish. Tried the chicken cordon bleu (sp)? The portion was a lot bigger than expected, but the flavors were incredible. Worth trying if you love the meats. Also tried the apple cinnamon roll. Delicious! I lived in Ramona 19 years been coming here on and off, saw a few changes over these years. Sonya the owner is a very hardworking owner, here staff as well. I usually opt for the egg and potato breakfasts which are excellent. Today I ordered the French toast combo, I sat nearest the kitchen so I could see orders popping up. My food order took a very long time, though enough to receive 3 coffee refills but no order. After a while a plate that had been up and sitting was brought over. The toast was so cold the butter did not melt. I am disappointed in today's service though I received prompt seating and order being taken the food took way to long and served cold. Giving three stars is not my style but being busy is not an excuse for cold food. I'll be back to see if I can revise my review. I was actually really surprised by this place. Breakfast joints like this in small towns are pretty whatever, you go there not for the food but rather because it's the only option. I split a pecan cinnamon roll and the chicken fried steak with my boyfriend and we both really enjoyed each item. And I feel everything came out at a good pace, nice and hot too. I rolled in here for lunch with a coworker and was surprised to see a sign mentioning that this place had been on triple D. I am not a huge fan of the show but cannot help but watch it from time to time because the Food Network seems to LOVE to rerun it over and over. I guess the cinnamon roll is the thing to get, however sadly I could not chow down on one because the guilt would hang over me for weeks. Anyway, the service was alright. We did not ask for even a refill and I tried to keep my order as simple as possible. Food: Veggie Burger: It was standard and nothing special. Wasn't terrible and it wasn't that good. This is a cute little cafe in the town of Ramona, CA. One of its greatest claims to fame is that Guy Fieri of "Diners, Drive-ins & Dives" [Food Network] fame stopped by to try one of the enormous cinnamon rolls made by the London Bakery, also part of the cafe. We stopped in for dinner, ordered a couple of lemonades, and checked the menu. Finally, we ordered a BBQ Burger with Fries, & a Bleu Cheese Burger with Onion Rings. The burgers were cooked to well done. I especially loved the flavor of the bleu cheese on my burger. The fries were great, & there were a LOT of them. The onion rings were also quite good. All in all, we enjoyed our meal. The ambience was easy-going & restful - a nice break at the end of the day. The only slight negative, & it is very small, is that they failed to ask us how we wanted our burgers cooked. A lot of buzz has been going around for this small-town institution, so we decided to check it out for ourselves. Driving up there for Sunday brunch, we found the cafe packed with couples, families and some big groups. They really don't have a waiting area, so those of us who had to wait to get seated hung out on the sidewalk. No big deal, really. They were slammed and as the friendly waitress explained to us, the cafe was shorthanded at the time. It was nice of her to tell us what was going on. Usually, with other restaurants, we have no clue as to why nobody's seating us or taking our orders. Since it was our first time at Ramona Cafe, we should've ordered the stuff that made them popular. I would've gone for their famous Kitchen Sink Skillet with ham, bacon, cheese, bell peppers & tomato served in a piping-hot skillet, but I found the breakfast steak more appealing. Served with three eggs, home fries and good wheat toast, it was only less than $8. I thought the steak was nicely seasoned, and the home fries were pretty good. I think they seasoned it with the spice that they use for chorizo - Mexican chili powder, perhaps. Oh, and they're really good about refilling your coffee. So I guess the food was just A-OK. I didn't hear raves from my brunchmates. The cafe apparently offers free Wi-Fi, but my Nintendo DS Lite (which I had a browser for and was Wi-Fi capable) could not pick up any signal. Maybe there's something wrong with my device. Oh, and my sister says I have to address the fly issue... I guess they can't be avoided, since people are coming in and out all the time. And that Ramona has tons of farms and livestock... We just had to say "Shoo, fly! Don't bother me!" But if you're ever in Ramona, give this place a shot. read more

I think we may have been the only Asians here at the time, lol! So yesterday, my bro and my best friend packed up the Honda Element and made our way to Ramona Cafe, in Ramona, CA (about 20-30 mins east of the Rancho Bernardo area of San Diego). We figured to visit this place because we already had plans to visit R.B. for a relative's birthday, might as well detour for a bit to try out something that Food Network's "Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives" recognizes. Plus, this gave me the opportunity to drive out... probably the furthest I've taken the Element out. Home cooked comfort food, that's what I think they provide. Comfort food that leaves you stuff and satisfied, and probably for some, bloated and gassy, lol! From reading and hearing around, they're famous for their Chicken Cordon Bleu, the Chicken Fried Steak, and their Cinnamon Rolls. If you notice near the cashier counter, you will see a signed poster or Guy and the show he hosts on Food Network. If you're coming for the cinnamon rolls, it might be a good idea to ask if there are any, as they seem to run out by late morning... Best to order some "to-go" when you are placing your order for breakfast. My best friend, Josh ordered something called "The Kitchen Sink" (see picture). It's a messy skillet piled high with lots of breakfast stuff... Google it to get the description of what's in it. It looked pretty messy, but tasty and you have your choice of bread (which was a biscuit he opted for). My bro had a normal special, hotcakes, eggs and bacon for a reasonably inexpensive price. I myself had the Chicken Fried Steak, eggs and home fries. So much flavor, so tender... tender enough you don't need the steak knife they give you to cut it. I had a biscuit as well. Knowing that cinnamon rolls can run out, we asked ahead of time if they had any... the cute brunette waitress said they had :) so we ordered 2 to-go for Mom. lol! My mom is a cinnamon roll nut, but we all love her. They're about 1/2 lb+ in weight, pretty hefty for a cinnamon roll. They have dinner specials listed on a small place-card at the table, mon-fri... Most recognizable were the AYCE daily specials they had: Mondays-Chicken Strips, Wednesday-BBQ Beef Ribs, Friday-Fish&chips. Talk about great weekday AYCE specials. Lucky folks, they have here, haha! During our Saturday afternoon drive we stopped here for lunch. They have a banner out front advertising their 1/2 pound cinnamon roll as seen on 'Diners, Drive-ins and Dives'. That of course got my fatty attention. When we went int the only bummer at first was that there wasn't a sign to seat yourself and that is the way it goes. Anyway we found a seat near the window. The waitresses were all very friendly. It took a few minutes to get a menu, but once we got the menus the service was quick to assist. We started with a 1/2 pound cinnamon roll. I must say I expected it to be bigger, BUT it was warm and very delicious nonetheless. Mike ordered the chicken fried steak and I ordered the philly cheesesteak. Mike was didn't care for the steak too much. It was drenched in gravy. My cheesesteak was pretty good though. My fries were a little bit of a bummer because they were not fresh, but the cheesesteak made up for it. Overall this was your standard diner experience. Just middle of the road fare and not one of my go to places to eat in Ramona. Years ago it was very good but last two times we ate there we were disappointed. Hard to mess up breakfast which is what we ate there, but there was just something lacking.....the only thing specific that I can pinpoint is that the potatoes had an odd flavor. Husband and I took our son on his first apple picking trip and we stopped at Ramona's for lunch. Like many people we had seen this place on Triple D. I had the chicken fried steak and the portions we huge. I've never had chicken fried steak before and all I can say is if they're making it wrong, I don't want them to be right!! My husband had a sandwich there and he loved it. We had plenty of leftovers and were happy to have something yummy to warm up later. We ordered one of the famous cinnamon rolls towards the end of our meal and they had just run out!! Lesson learned- order ahead of time!! = ( Really sad that I missed out. I love sweets!!! Definitely plan on heading up there one day soon so I can re-rate this place based on the famous rolls and I am sure I'll have a full panel of stars!!! The food comes in great portions, tastes great, and is reasonably priced! We love that our dogs can sit on the patio and there are fans above on warm days. I've been to the Cafe several times for breakfast. I've always had a good breakfast. The cinnamon buns were also good. Today I went for lunch. I got the philly cheese steak sandwich. It was a huge toasted bread roll. It had very little cheese. I counted 4 pieces of green bell pepper, 2 pieces on top of bun. It had 2 thin strips of onion. It had 1 solid thin piece of flank steak. Basically a bread sandwich. My wife said the cinnamon buns were not good. They had very little butter, frosting and cinnamon. Very disappointing and unusual. This place had a chance at greatness (Due to the publicity on Diners Drive-ins and Dives) It's pretty sad to see and taste such poor food quality and service in the wake of such an honor. There were literally only 3 tables sitting when we entered and it took at least 15 min, maybe more, for a server to take our order.. The house favorite is apparently an overcooked (To the point of a leather-like consistency) deep-fried chicken cordon bleu with hollandaise that was WAY to salty and absolutely disgusting. I guess I should be thankful that it wasn't under-cooked which would most likely result in food poisoning. My girlfriend had the chicken-fried steak which was sub-par as well. That's my rant in exchange for a one hour drive and a $35 tab for food that was basically inedible. At this point i'm not even sure I should blame the restaurant. I have eaten here for YEARS!!! I love this small little location. It is not a pristine, top of the line, restaurant, but it is a good old home town cafe. The portions are large. The food tastes great. I feel like it has a "charm" about it. If you are going for breakfast, I suggest the Plowboy, or the Half-Plowboy. If you are going for lunch, I suggest the Club Supreme, but substitute the ham for roast beef and get the season fries. Went here for a late breakfast. We got to sit anywhere so we decided to sit outside. Our waitress was quick to serve us. I had an orange juice to drink and a plate called the plow boy. The plow boy consisted of potatoes, scrambled eggs, gravy, cheese, and bits of bacon. It was a full plate of all that. I only ate about half. The taste of the potatoes were soft. The gravy was good. It went well with the scrambled eggs, and the cheese and bits of bacon. I also tasted some diced up ham and onions. I really didn't care for the onions. The meal was filling but this dish wasn't the greatest. I should have ordered something else like pancakes. Maybe next time. Since I couldn't finish my meal, I asked for a box. The waitress gave us two boxes. One for me and my daughter. She also gave us a plastic bag to put our leftovers in. The waitresses were super nice and friendly. Service was quick. My second time here. Copped the Original (cinnamon and pecan) cinnamon roll to go and had it warmed up. Frosting is plentiful and sweet. The bread of the roll is nice and moist, though the outer ring is a bit too dough. The pecans do exist within but don't expect a slew of chopped, glazed goodness atop it like you would with, say, a pecan sticky roll from Cinnabon. Big enough to share tho you could also go in on a solo mission on this. You could eat it at room temp but . . . Why would you want to? I'll be back next time I'm in this area. read more

Our first impression of Ramona Cafe was that it was clean. We were the only customers in the restaurant on a Sunday afternoon and the ambiance and service were nice. Considering we had just seen the Guy Fieri show last weekend, we thought we'd take a detour and stop and give it a try. We ordered the Chicken Fried Steak and the Fish and chips. It seemed to be a bit busy, but that was fine. But actually it wasn't fine. I'm guessing that the cook over fried both the Chicken Fried Steak and the Fish as both were over cooked. We were so excited to finally go to the Ramona Cafe since watching on DDD. I ordered hash browns with onions and scrambled eggs. When received my breakfast, the hash browns were cold and the onions were just boiled and placed on top. The eggs were cold when I asked about my eggs the person asked ' do you want me to microwave them'?' I asked is there another way? Really? This restaurant has been in business for how long and they serve food like this? The restaurant was not busy and there is no reason for food to be put out like this I gave this 1 star only because they kept my husbands coffee filled and asked about my tea, upon leaving the waitress apologized, took my breakfast off the tab. I must admit, I was a bit disappointed, breakfast was just okay. I had traditional eggs benedict, my BF had crab cake eggs benedict. He enjoyed his much more then I did. He got fruit with his and I got country potatoes, bad decision, they tasted like dirty oil. We took a cinnamon roll home, it wasn't as good as I had hoped either. My girlfriend and myself tried the Ramona cafe today with my girlfriend ordering the Chicken Condon Blue in which she said was very good and it looked good and I ordered the breakfast special which was the $9.99 ABC omlette which was a avocado, bacon and cheese omlette. First of all, the omlette did not have avocado slices in it but had an avocado paste which didnt even qualify as guacamole and because it was inside the omlette, it was a warm bland avocado paste, the bacon was minced and greasy smothered in melted cheese and the country potatoes were obviously a mix of recently cooked and previously cooked potatoes from throughout the morning, so I pretty much just ate the eggs flavored by the greasy bacon. Also, I should mention that even though there were only about 10 customers in the cafe when we arrived, most who were already eating, it still took us about 25 or 30 minutes to get our two meals. I do have to mention though, that their freshly baked cinnamon rolls from their bakery filled the air with a nice tempting smell that challenged you to take a couple home, no doubt. read more

Overall a cozy experience in a small community. It was like being back home. Parking is curbside or in back (I preferred back cuz I cannot parallel park). Entrance from back goes through by storage and by the reefer, kitchen, and bathroom. Kept clean and mostly orderly. Liked the bathroom. Clean and homey. Seated right away despite Spring break on a weekday. Coffee was hot and not bitter. I like mine black so that saved me. Waitress was nice. I was so tired I didn't catch her name. Just kept asking for coffee and she was great about it. She recommended the bbq style burger they have. I woofed it down. My kid had half of his burger--he loved it. My mom and auntie said they loved theirs--meatloaf and...something (see photo). Biscuits were great! Homestyle and huge globs of awesome! I would have loved making those in the kitchen. Ordered their classic cinnamon roll to go and when we got home I heated it up in the microwave to share. It had almond in it, and a couple pecans peeled out from the cinnamon-butter spread, and overall was great. Could use more frosting. It was my cheat meal, after all. A note: my burger wasn't hot. It wasn't cold either. Reassess cook times for orders and not leave my plate out for a long time if other orders aren't ready. That's what disappointed me. There were only two other tables occupied. A couple people came in for pick-ups (maybe?) that I saw; nothing one cook can't handle since one cook can handle up to 70 customers (officially). I want my food hot! Especially after a cold day. Seating is very intimate, we were squeezed between a table of 4 and a table of 8. I ordered the Chicken Cordon Bleu and I must say it was not my favorite thing. It was a bit over cooked and the breading wasn't my favorite either. The mashed potatoes and corn served with it were good, however! My friend ordered the Seafood Omelet and said it was quite tasty.
