My friend and I came for a Sunday brunch and both liked Ramona's Mexican Café. My initial take after this first visit is that it's solidly good - what the heck, what I found today was _excellent_ (While I started this as a four-star, after writing my review and reliving how well everything went, I'm bumping my review all the way up). Noteworthy is that everyone appears to know about Ramona's already: the place was PACKED when I arrived at 1115 on a Sunday. I was able to snag a small table (it's seat-yourself) and was immediately presented with a menu and asked about drinks by a series of hustling staffers. All charming, by the way, utterly without any "It's not my area/job" attitude - throughout our visit, everyone from the managers to the busser to our waitress to other waitresses always seemed engaged in doing whatever was necessary to make sure things are going as we'd like. While doing the same for dozens of other customers. Furthermore, the bathroom was clean even during this Sunday crush. Top-tier job by management - and, please note the outgoing manager himself stopped by our table a couple times to check on us. Wow. We were not rushed and were continually offered drink refills and even go-cups. The menu (see attached photos) was pretty varied and (it should be noted) NOT New Mexican. Nice to see a breakfast/brunch/lunch place that's this professional doing something other than the ordinary. My friend got a waffle with eggs and ham; I got the enchiladas montadas with chorizo, eggs and both red and green chiles (and the manager asked whether we'd like a little more chile and brought us a small bowl of each - at no charge - yay). My food was delicious and filling and a great deal for today's pricing. (Note there is an additional charge for payment with a card.) My friend liked his waffle and described it as perfectly made and of the quality that made a carb splurge worthwhile. The fruit on his waffle was really nice and fresh, too. On the chiles: note that the red appears to be made from pods and is more of a Northern _Mexico_ flavor than a _Northern New Mexico_ flavor. For me, this was a bonus, as it's not something commonly encountered in the Albuquerque area. The chile colorado was a little picante, too, but not what I'd call especially so. The green chile was milder and . . . very similar to those served at Los Cuates and La Salita, if that helps. Of the two, I much preferred the red, but that's incredibly subjective and who knows whether it'll hold between different batches of chile over multiple visits. But I will be _making_ multiple visits: there are a lot of things on the menu here that I want to try. read more

After reading the reviews about the great service and great food, decided to finally make my way to Ramona's. Food was really good, but unfortunately, our service wasn't great. I think our server was having a bad day for some reason. I've eaten takeout here a few times but decided to dine in with some family today. The Huevos Rancheros were really good and too large to finish. But what really elevates Ramona's from a 4 to 5 star restaurant was the service. The best service I've had around town for a casual dining spot. Very good chilie, both red and green! My wife and I had a great first experience, the waitress was very friendly and let us have a taste of the rice before ordering it as an extra side, it was very tasty and well cooked. Wowza! A friend recommended Ramona's and I can't wait to tell him how great it was! Wonderful location on Jefferson and a spacious interior. Our service was awesome and the food was served fast and hot. My huevos ranchos had so many options! Hash browns, cubed or sliced potatoes, refried or whole beans, ham, bacon, chorizo, or sausage, and corn or flour tortilla. I got my eggs over medium, hash towns, whole beans, no meat with corn under and flour on the side, and green chile. Excellent! My spouse got pancakes with fruit, crispy bacon, and 2 eggs over medium. (btw there is a surcharge for cards, which i think they should put out there in big text, although since i had cash i felt like it was a discount not a surcharge. Anyway i usually test places with Huevos Rancheros, and theirs did not dissapoint. Could have had hotter chile. But despite being hungry i was unable to stuff in the last few bites. bacon was great, the hashbrowns were fully cooked, and the pintos were good. This place absolutely ROCKS. If you want high quality, authentic Mexican food- this is IT. I'm a sucker for chilaquiles and these were THE best I have had in ABQ. It was really tough to decide what to get- I can't wait to go back! The prices were reasonable along with delicious chips & salsa. Service was also excellent. The eggs were fried in A LOT of oil. The first bite into the egg; the immediate taste that hit my mouth: oil. The Chilaquiles looked sooo good, but again tasted like oil, but this time old frying oil. The menudo was suuuuuper fatty and oily with not great flavor. Someone else wrote the menudo was spicy - where? I had to ask for chili de arbol. I got crushed red pepper flakes and dumped the entire amount in the menudo. The overpowering oily taste was distracting from what I was eating. I honestly felt like I drank a cup of vegetable / canola oil after eating here which made the meal not very enjoyable. Prices were good, staff was excellent, but waaaaay overdone with the oil in the cooking. So far my favorite menudos in ABQ are at Delicia's & Juani's, but I haven't tried El Dorado yet. read more

I found this place because I was looking for menudo. I am from Dallas and we don't have many authentic Mexican restaurants that serve menudo. This place did not disappoint! My menudo was spicier than I'm used to which means it's perfect for everyone else. The pieces were cut into perfect small bites. There was a more hominy in it than I prefer but it was delicious. My husband ordered a simple breakfast - bacon and eggs were cooked perfectly. Hash browns were not greasy. Very good value overall. The most impressive aspect of this restaurant is the service. Everyone was so nice and friendly. We felt welcomed and appreciated. I was super needy and kept asking for things I forgot and everyone was so pleasant in helping me. 4.5 stars This place is the real deal as far as authentic Mexican food/atmosphere goes. I came on a Sunday afternoon a few weeks ago. And while I've visited other restaurants in the that area before, I had no idea about Ramona's until I had seen a Facebook post in a local restaurant group about pumpkin spice horchata. On this particular Sunday, there were several birthday parties going on and the mariachis had just finished, so it was a lively atmosphere. Staff was friendly and even asked if I needed anything to drink while I waited for my horchata. The horchata was a good size (around 24 oz) for $5. It was the perfect blend of that sweet and pumpkin spice, topped with whipped cream and cinnamon. We decided to try out Ramona's because of other reviews. It exceeded our expectations. Our waitress was amazing. She checked on us many times to make sure we had what we needed. Our food came out fast and hot. We ordered the chips and salsa. The salsa was spicy and very flavorful. Chips were thin and crispy. My husband ordered the combo plate and I ordered the chilaquiles with red chile and I added a side of their home potatoes. Visually at first the food is very appetizing and looks like something you would receive at your grandmothers house. It takes me back. First things first, what stood out to me was the amazing customer service! I feel like excellent customer service is hard to come by these days. I've been there three times within the last week and every time I've been there, the entire team was so friendly, they tag teamed and helped everyone out, and everyone walked around checking on customers. And when the owner is there, he walks around checking on people and helps his staff as needed. Seeing how the owner treats his staff and just how overall pleasant the everyone is, this was a major green flag to me! Ok, now to the food. I tried the smash burger tacos which were pretty good! Sorry I didn't take the best picture so you can't really see the hamburger patty but they were delicious. I also ordered the chilaquiles twice which have been my favorite dish so far! The chile is flavorful and has a nice kick to it! I also tried their pancakes which were perfect! This has become one of my new favorite local spots! I highly recommend it! read more

Legendary experience! Enjoyed an amazing breakfast. Hubby had red chile plate with rice and beans very generous portion and the chile was perfectly tender and tasty. Flavor had a kick without being overpowering. Suggest ordering a flour tortilla with it to scoop up meat/bean/rice together. I have seen some really good reviews about this new place and decided to give it a try for ourselves. We ordered the Taco Burgers and also had the chips and salsas. The Taco Burgers were a good portion size and did fill us up. They came with a fresh roasted green chile and that was a nice bonus. The 2 salsas were both very good but the green salsa was the best. It had some spice! The staff was super friendly and very attentive. We did not have to ask for refills, as they kept our glasses full. We did not have to wait for a table and were seated immediately.
