At $38 and $45 respectively, that was particularly disappointing. Service was equally underwhelming. Despite having a 12:45 p.m. reservation, the hostess seated us at a four-top closest to the kitchen. There were numerous vacant four-top tables in more desirable locations throughout the dining room, yet we were placed there. We didn't complain, but all of us wondered, "Why this table?" Our server, Christy L., was adequate but hardly memorable. As visitors from Los Angeles, we've grown accustomed to servers making a little conversation--asking what brings you to town, offering recommendations, or simply establishing some rapport. Christy's interaction amounted to, "Hi, I'm your server. What can I get you?" and little else. She rarely checked back and never made much effort to engage. Because of that, we didn't feel the suggested gratuity options of 20%, 25%, or 30% on the payment screen were warranted. We left a standard 18% tip. Bottom Line: If you're craving excellent fried clams or a good lobster roll, this place is worth a visit. Beyond those items, however, there are plenty of restaurants that offer stronger culinary execution, more attentive and personable service, and equally attractive surroundings.

We were subjected to an unsolicited and uncomfortable "lesson" on tea service, which detracted from what should have been a relaxed and celebratory occasion. While trying to enjoy the time with the girls, being a lifelong tea drinker and someone who has been to many times at your establishment and its various incarnations, this is something I have never experienced. The food quality was poor (scones were clearly reheated and stuck to the cloth napkin they were wrapped in), and there were notable service lapses, including being served water in a visibly shattered glass. Additionally, when hot water was added to refresh the tea, my stepdaughter's pot curdled and had to be replaced. It was especially disappointing, as I mentioned that I had stopped in and spoken with the concierge, and was assured, as they had called the kitchen while I stood there that they readily accommodated gluten-free. There are numerous places in the city that could have done this, and if you had just told me that you could not do so, I would have booked us elsewhere. I chose not to raise the multiple issues in the moment so as not to disrupt what was meant to be a special day for the girls and me.
