I'm writing this in a hospital waiting room. now the other issues we had of the night became smaller, what with missing drink orders, lame excuse for wax paper found inside an enchilada and no comping until asked, and making the group of 13 wait an hour for food while watching other tables being served/having eaten & left... SOMEONE WITH A SEVERE GLUTEN ALLERGY WAS SENT TO THE HOSPITAL RIGHT AT THE END OF THE MEAL, after ordering from the dedicated GF menu, and asking to make sure that food is prepared safely for her to consume. person in question had a seizure right at the table. we were the ones to call 911 and remove her from the table to the bathroom. what's worse, paramedics had arrived and left, yet we were STILL waiting for the manager to get to our table to talk to us. meanwhile, the whole dining section was looking on, wait staff passing by not really stopping to check if she was ok. NO HELP from this place. imagine if she was dining by herself -- might have been left for dead right there. once His Majesty finally arrived, and i presented our issue to him, all i got was "we are serious about this", "we have been doing this for 9 years, never had an issue", because "everything is done according to guidelines". this is relevant how? i've never driven drunk and killed anyone for 30+ years either. does that mean i can say it'll NEVER happen....despite a person lying right under my car as i emerge from the vehicle, like, right now??? can you GUARANTEE there can be no mistakes to be made among that large staff of yours? besides, if you "never had an issue" with allergies, why do i see multiple reviews in the Find Me Gluten Free app stating otherwise?? maybe those diners never brought it up to your attention, or maybe you just shunned them the way you did to us. let me break this down a little bit. so, by "treating this seriously", do you mean: - appearing from the kitchen to check on your guests a whole 10 minutes AFTER a life-threatening incident had happened? - showing no other emotion but defensiveness? - refusing to at least comp the meal for the person in question? (trust me, i'm not asking to eat free here though your food is nothing to rave about, nor was it my intention to gyp the waiter who wasn't entirely doing his job) - refusing to give us the ingredient list (that you claimed to have on hand), and would produce that ONLY when the hospital asks for it? - suggesting that the person in question might have eaten something ELSE before arriving at your restaurant, which is making her sick now? - insisting that we pay in full just to "prove that we ate here, in case we have a problem with the allergy issue down the road"? who does that??? and exactly what guidelines are you following??? let me tell you, this person in question is now crying bloody murder in a hospital room because she is in intense pain, suffering from multiple seizure episodes, and purging your contaminated food every way her body knows how. AND YOU ARE STILL TRYING TO SAY THAT THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE FOOD YOU SERVED HER? and i thought i might have misinterpreted his reactions/attitude in the heat of the moment (during which we both tried to be calm), but others at my table heard our conversation and thought likewise: he offered little to zero sympathy or solution to our problem (well, not even being there in the first place), did not own up to the issue at hand (more like fighting it the whole time, much less offering an apology), and basically treated me as if I was attempting to complain my way to a free meal. mind you, although some of us strongly disagreed, we still paid in full (with a smaller than normal tip) -- just bc we didn't want the waiter to be penalized for the owner's inexcusable behavior (he claimed that he would have to pick up the tab if we didn't pay). we did it "just to prove" that we're not here to get a free meal out of you. again, who does that??? Mr. Antonio Santillain, you had MANY chances along the way to rectify a customer issue, yet you chose the road to make it worse. much, much worse. you blew it big time, sir. just be careful of any lawsuit and formal complaint coming your way. good luck doing business like this. Sooo..I'm out in the middle of who knows where..Massachusetts? Friend decides he wants mexican..I Yelp it and head to closest spot... Walking in I was wondering what I was getting myself into. Felt like a Disney attraction. Attempting to make the place look authentic but it came across like a 99 with some piñatas and B&W photos of mexicans. The salsa was watery and chips stale but the burrito was a suprise. I ordered the rancho burrito for $13.99 and this monster was suprisingly good. If you're hungry this is the place..there was about a pound of pollo stuffed in this thing along with everything else. Friends enjoyed there's also and we all left without deserts. Came here for the first time for lunch on a Monday since our usual place was renovating . Atmosphere is lacking here. Could be cleaner, could be updated. I peeked in the bar and it looked like a nicer place to eat. Also it was Absolutely freezing, the people at other tables noticed too since no one took off a jacket. Turn the heat up! And it was suppoppper quite. There were like 10 other couples here and I swear I could hear everyone chewing. Bit awkward because I felt like if I spoke everyone would be in the convo. Food was good. Got the queso dip and it was plentiful. And the lunch chicken mole was very large and yummy. A little too much sauce but that may just be a preference. Service was ok. Not too friendly, chips kind of just tossed onto the table. I'd maybe come back if the usual place is closed but honestly not memorable enough to make a special trip. read more

Been there a couple times. The service is really great, best service I have had in a restaurant. You know what they say, people go for the food but they come back for the service! The staff are very helpful explaining what the menu items are if you are not well acquainted with Mexican food. A PLUS- free chips and salsa. This place has gone slowly and steadily down hill for the past few years. Take out the other night for a chimichanga and a mole burrito was $37. Paying with cash prompted a. "do want any change" from the hostess - that's in poor taste; I always tip, even for take out but don't beg. A potential $8 tip got immediately discounted to $3 - keep my two twenties. The shredded-beef mole burrito I ordered turned out to be chicken when I got home. Meat tasted like boiled chicken with no seasoning. Mole sauce was OK but skimpy. This was the most tasteless, institutional cooking tasting. poor excuse for a burrito I've ever had. The chimichanga order was correct but equally under-seasoned with an off taste. The rice was bland and the beans were watery. I guess if you've never eaten Mexican food before in your life one might think this food was at least safe to eat - It is though, a far cry from what Mexican food is. If I could give zero stars I would. Went there Sunday evening and it was horrific. The restaurant was EMPTY when we arrived. It took the server 30 minutes to take or drink orders and another 15 to come back with the drinks. We ordered appetizers which were far less than appealing. the plates were hot, yet the food was cold? interesting. After an entire hour of waiting for our food to come back, I was given the wrong thing. he took it back, dumped it onto another plate (that was wet) and added what was missing. when we got the bills and handed our cards to the waiter he took another 45 minutes to bring the checks back, OH and they charged me for having to take back the food and bring the correct order out. There are two staples I look for when I go to a Mexican restaurant: #1 their salsa and #2 their guacamole. Rancho Chico's salsa was very watery with little flavor and their guacamole was just "ok". I ordered the spinach quesadilla and added mushrooms since they just put spinach and monterey jack cheese in it and the portion was rather large. The drinks were delicious. Their banana margarita actually tastes like bananas as opposed to some other places. We had a table of 10 and I can't complain about the service- the hostess was very friendly and our server was as well, along with being attentive. I prefer El Mariachi in Taunton over this place but since Rancho is down the road from me I'll give it another shot when I don't feel like driving. read more

We stopped into Rancho Chico on Saturday after a recommendation from a friend. It is conveniently located on route 1, though the parking lot is kind of a mess. We were seated right away, we walked through the bar area which was a good size and were seated in a dining area booth. It seemed like there were a few good sized dining areas. Our waiter was very friendly and attentive. I had a margarita which was decent and I would get again. We order queso dip to go with our chips and it was a huge portion and very tasty. I had the veggie fajita for my entree and it was very good and again a big portion size, I had plenty of food to take home as well. My dining companion had a chicken quesadilla and was very satisfied. We will definitely be back for a good experience and decent food! read more

Ordered a spinach quesadilla and a taco salad to go. The quesadilla was soggy and didn't come with rice/beans as advertised on the website. The salad was WET, there was a pool of liquid on the bottom of the plate almost as if the lettuce was thrown in after it was washed. Ordinarily, this is an ok restaurant ( middle of the road). My criticisms are as follows: we mainly order to go food. Last order a week ago was sizable as we had adult children visiting. Veggie fajitas came with no tortillas. Everyone's sides of beans and rice well...the beans were not the usual, possibly dumped out of a can and they all had large sized mushrooms. Really??? Not simmered in a sauce as we new they came and certainly no mushrooms should be included. Even the burrito lacked the usual red sauce. Must be a supply chain issue? If so, something should have been said to the customers up front. We have experienced periodic issues with take-out...mainly extremely dry cut up chicken ( barely edible) to taco salads where the normal beef pieces were replaced with ground beef. Maybe an ordering issue??? I guess I want to say very inconsistent but usually good. read more

Just moved to the area and checked this place out. The service was really good,and so was the food! We love Alcapocos so we were hoping this place came close in comparison and it did. They were very accommodating with ordering my tacos to my liking. I love the Tacos Al pastor with steak. The tortilla chips are better than Alcapocos in my opinion. Thicker and crispier. Meh. This was a bummer food experience. I ordered the Quesadilla Mariscos and it was huge but it was so uneventful and quite frankly not tasty. The crab and shrimp must have been very frozen for a long time-because it has the thawed/ watered down taste. The original margarita was good. The atmosphere was ok - out dated a bit but still ok. Bottom line the food was so boring, flavorless and not enjoyable. I walked away wishing I had chosen somewhere else to have dinner. It seriously could have been a fast food crap no name place putting out the same quality of food. The service was ok- nice people but not engaged and no show of enthusiasm to be there. Went here today was my husband and in-laws. I got the enchiladas. It's was soooooo salty. The chicken enchilada with molé was too dry. The rice was dried out in the reheating process. The guacamole was delicious. The salsa was a little water but okay. My husband got a plate with chicken and seafood with mushroom that was delicious. My in law got carne asada that very heavy handed on the salt. Overall was okay. Would I come back ? Ehh. Probably not. read more

Just can't win with this business. We had some horrible experiences in the past (see first review), but after a few years we decided to give it another try. We used Door Dash to order an app, two adult meals and two kids meals (2 kids taco dinners). When the order was delivered, we were missing a kids taco dinner. When we called, the woman who answered admitted it was their mistake; however the manager argued and said they added the second taco to the first kids meal container. I'm not sure why they would put the second taco meal in with the first meal. The second taco was also missing the rice and beans side. We just couldn't believe that the manager argued with us about the situation. To make matters worse, when my daughter started eating her taco, she found an ant crawling around in the meal. My 5 year old daughter said she's sorry she picked Rancho Chico as her birthday dinner. read more

Our first visit a year or so ago was unimpressive and irritating and we were not going to give them another chance. On the way home from a baby doctor appointment we decided to stop and get take out. When we walked in and asked to place a take out order - we asked the hostess if they could make a garden salad. She did not know what a garden salad was and suggested we get the $9 Rancho Chico Salad which we did without the chicken because I wanted a side salad. I of course was charged full price. We then asked if it was possible to get Medium Rare steak in the Fajitas and was told yes and then she asked what I wanted to order. So I said "steak fajitas please" and she looks at the menu and says "you have a choice of steak, shrimp or chicken"... Is it me? So I repeat that I want steak Medium Rare in the fajitas. She tells us it will be 20 minutes for the take out. A good 10 mins later the hostess tells us she just put the order in. So I asked if this means that we are waiting another 20 minutes and non apologetically she says "yes"... Finally we get our food and leave. I get home and did not get fajitas - I got a quesadilla that I did not want and it was sprinkled with shriveled overcooked steak! I was furious because it was clear that they had no clue what they were doing while we were there but we were so specific about our order that I could not believe that it was wrong. I called there and spoke to the hostess that took the order. She claimed at first not to remember us - I can assure you I was the only pregnant woman with her husband who ordered take out in person and waited. She asked me what else we ordered and said she would have to call me back. I was clear when I called to tell them of their mistake that I wasn't coming back to get the fajitas as they are at least 20 mins away but wanted them to know about the mistake. The hostess proceeds to tell me that even though she took our order that some other "lady" gave us the food and she should have checked so it was not her fault. I told her that they both work there and it is called customer service. I don't care who placed the order or gave us the food - the order should have been right especially since we had a whole conversation about it. She calls back and says "this is the hostess from Rancho Chico and I know you said you live 45 mins away but you only paid $9.75 for the quesadillas and the fajitas are $15 so you would have to drive here and return the quesadillas before they would place an order for the fajitas" Can you even imagine? My in laws own a restaurant, my husband is a chef and this just blew us away. I told her again that I was NOT driving back there and returning the quesadillas and that the service and communication at that restaurant is awful and that they lost a customer. They could care less. Not to mention they got $8 out of us for a tin full of romaine lettuce with four tomato slices so I think we are even when it comes to the fajitas. We will not be back and after dining there and getting take out and being disappointed and thoroughly annoyed after each experience I suggest no one visit there. I cannot get enough! I have found my new place. The staff is so nice and our server Alejandro was A-MAZ-ING. Despite being packed he took time to help us pick meals that would make each of us happy (2 picky kids). He checked in often and interacted with my kids so naturally. The food is crazy good! My chicken enchilada was perfected coated in the most flavorful red sauce and the refried beans with shredded cheese and perfectly cooked fluffy rice. The kids nearly licked the plates after their chimichanga and taco. We finished with the cutest churro plate and didn't break the bank! read more

I have only been here once, but I am glad I went there based on reviews from Yelp. My GF and I were sitting around trying to figure out what we wanted to do for the night. We wanted to get out and do something. Unfortunately for us, we sat around a little too long and it was getting pretty late. We showed up to Rancho 15 minutes before the kitchen closed. I know people in the kitchen hate people like us that order last minute, so I was very apologetic when ordering and tried to be as nice as possible. I was given NO attitude, he was very happy to take my order, and we received our food very fast. I was incredibly happy with this. I also read that Rancho caters to people with a gluten allergy. Since my GF is allergic to gluten, it really cuts down on the places we can go and I was glad to hear this. (also another deciding factor in us going here) We ordered the Enchiladas Suizas off the gluten-free menu and it was absolutely delicious. The chicken in the enchiladas was incredibly tender and full of flavor like it had been sitting in a crock pot all day long. We both devoured the dish. For drinks we had margaritas and then we called it a night. Great service, terrific food, accommodating to gluten allergies, and nice atmosphere. If you want "authentic" Mexican food, do not go here. If, however, you want a huge portion of cheesy, sour cream/guacamole-covered goodness, then Rancho Chico is the place to be. All of their portions are huge and range from the classic quesadillas to vegetarian dishes. I love the Spinach Quesadillas since they are not as filling as their meat counterpart, but when I'm hungrier the Quesadillas con Mariscos (quesadillas with shrimp) are the best! If you do get dessert here, definitely try the churros (fried cinnamon sticks with chocolate dipping sauce) or the fried ice cream. I have had fried ice cream before at other restaurants (i.e. Dahra Thai) and Rancho Chico's is much lighter. Rather than deep-frying the ice cream, they cover it in what tastes like a banana-cornflake mixture (a lot like what they do for the french toast for the Tavern at Tower Square's Sunday brunch - read my review on that to find out more). read more

Rancho Chico: big restaurant, big parking lot, big drinks, big portions, big flavor. You will not succeed at eating "light" or "small" here, nor will you succeed at holding back from eating every morsel of your entree. Don't be intimidated by the empty foyer or the colossal dining floor, filled with empty booths -- space is the chief luxury of being this far out in the exurbs, and you'll appreciate all the distance anyway when the inevitable crying-baby symphony begins several tables down. (For some reason, every time we come here there's a crying baby. It's a testament to how good the food is that it never bothers us.) The margaritas are delicious; I find the sangria over-sweet, but my wife likes it. Enjoy the chips and salsa, but note that they charge for a second bowl (sneaky!) -- it's just as well, since you'll need the room for your entree. As for food: you can't go wrong with an old Americanized Mexican standby like burritos or enchiladas (the Rancho Chico Enchiladas, which includes one serving of their superb mole sauce, is a great choice), all of which are overstuffed and cheesy. The fajita burrito is a highlight -- but the fajitas are even better, flawlessly seasoned and so very tender. Most of all I encourage you to venture to the more interesting Mexican side of the menu; the puerco dishes, in my experience, are rich, tender, well-spiced, and generous. Never have we been dissatisfied with a dinner here. It isn't the cheapest Mexican place around, to be sure (head for El Azteca in Attleboro if you're pinching pennies -- it's also quite good, though not nearly to Chico's level). The service can be stiff, and at times slow. But if you like eating, even a little bit, none of that will matter; you'll find the call of an indulgent and satisfying Mexican dinner pulling you back, and back, and back to Chico's again. read more

First time Rancher...Long time Chico...er....?? Friends of mine come here often. I pass it every morning on my way to work. I do enjoy me some mexican cuisine and so it just came to be that we ended up here Friday night. They start ya off with chips and salsa...we took full advantage and had about 3 baskets. Id like to see you turn down free, delicious, fresh chips and salsa! We all got variety of entres which appeared to run almost the full gamut of the menu. Burritos were monstrous, all the fillings were flavorfull and everything had that enticing string of cheese that connects from yo face to yo plate (kind of like that embarassing "spit" moment while at the dentist but with delicious melted cheese). Side note #1: try the Chile relino (sp?) cant remember the exact name of the item but its a pepper in batter stuffed with cheese. It tastes almost exactly like creamed spinach but waaay better. Side note #2: sometimes the food comes in a monsterous plate/bowl hybrid...and theres a reason. Theres a sauce, cheese, bean slurry that sits below the main items like some sort of beautiful fat kid kiddie pool....which brings us to probably the most important tip i can say about this place.... ***Side note #3: MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A BASKET OF CHIPS FOR WHEN YOUR MEAL COMES!!!!!!! You can pretty much turn your plate and those chips into your own lil nacho dish! I can only relate it to that moment when you slide a piece of bread or roll through the remains of a pasta dish or salad....you know what I'm talking about. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!!! Decided to visit this restaurant today since we where in the area shopping & to say that I have never had have such bad service & been treated so poorly is not enough. I order the Seafood Burrito and 1/4 into eating my food I found what seem to be a piece of some sort of stick in the food obviously not part of the receipe. When the waiter came over she didn't even apologize just ask if I want it another one, I said No & she just proceded to take the food away,then she came back with the bill at that point I ask her to get the manager,she actually said to me with an attitude that why was I upset if she ask me if I want it another meal. I follow to ask for her manager once again, & her name,she never gave me her name & told me to go get the manager myself, because she was busy upfront she giggle, turn around & walked away. I would say her manager was not much better than the waitress she needs more extensive training on how to deal with customers & certain situations,all she did was apologize but long story short we where still charge & on the way out the waitress giggle with the manager next to her,by far the worst experience I had have & I've had have my share of restaurants. read more

The salsa set the tone for the meal. Immediately upon being seated we were served the fresh salsa and hot chips. I love that about these types of places. I'll take chips and salsa over bread and oil almost any day of the week. The only problem is that the salsa at Rancho Chico was very thin and bland. I love the idea behind it, but the execution just wasn't great and the same went for the rest of the meal. It's not that the food was bad, but I've had better. We went because we had a Groupon and with another Groupon I could probably be convinced to go back, but I think I'll stick to El Azteca which is closer to my neck of the woods anyway. read more

Rancho Chico rules. I come here often and the food is always fabulous. Portions are big (so come hungry) and the taste cannot be beaten. I am in LOVE with the Rancho Nachos. There is no place around here that can serve up a dripping, gooey, topping filled plate of steaming tortilla chips like they can. I'm in love. The real reason I come here is for the drinks. If you are looking for a delicious and STRONG margarita, order the Martin. This is the only margarita that is worth of having it's own name. Drink two of these and the already awesome food will taste even awesome-er. The decor is what I like to call "Old West cheesy". Everything is colorful and there are plastic horses everywhere. This is by far the best Mexican restaurant in this area. The wait staff are always pleasant and attentive. The food is always hot and fresh. I've never been disappointed, with either the take-out or dining-in experience. At times it can get really busy, so be prepared to wait a short time for either a table or to be waited on. Plenty of seating for the family, booths and tables are available. The decor is very typical Mexican style - sombrero's, horses, etc. Cliche, but not overdone. The ceiling tiles could do with a replacement. I've never got sick from eating here so I'm not concerned. The house style, frozen margaritas are wonderful and a decent price for the quality. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a really nice Mexican meal. read more

It was my first time here and I won't go back. First, my son and I sit down and a bus boy places our silverware down quickly. I try to ask him a question and in the middle of my question he walks away...Next we head to the bathrooms to freshen up be we eat and the bathrooms were dirty. We had driven a while to try the place so what the heck, maybe the food is good since the place had good reviews. The server takes our order and when it comes back my son's order is wrong but he ate it anyways. He ordered quesadillas with ground beef and got chicken filling. We got free chips and salsa to start but the salsa tasted like it was from a jar, not fresh and not much taste. I ordered a chicken burrito with a chili relleno. The burrito was a tortillas stuffed with dry, shredded chicken and a little cheese. My chili relleno was soggy and flavorless. The rice that came with it was dry and could have come out of a pouch from a grocery store. Really like Rancho Chico. It looks like a roadhouse from the front. It is about 5 miles south of Gillette Stadium on the right. Authentic Mexican food and family owned. They have a large dining area out back or sit in the lounge area which is my favorite as they have some old style Ramada Inn or Reagle Beagle (the bar from the tv show "Three's Company) lounge furniture. Here is the main thing you need to know about Rancho Chico, they have a tequila menu!! The food is reasonable, be sure to try their nacho plate it is heaped with cheese. Do your self a favor drive by the "Chili's" next time and head to Rancho Chico. read more

Entering the parking lot on a mid Sunday afternoon, the place was deserted. This area of Foxboro/Plainville is kind of country-bumpkin-ish and the restaurant looked like a truck stop to me. There was a large semi-truck parked across the lot and the restaurant signage screamed LOOK AT ME as though it was trying to grab your attention as you drove down Route 1 hungry. It was very dark inside the restaurant and we were taken by the hostess to the back. Only about 3 other diners were here around 2pm on a Sunday afternoon. The restaurant was very Americanized-Mexican. Authentic music played but I just seemed out of place inside. The menu was huge. And I kept eyeballing the liquor menu but I did not try a margarita, this however may have changed my review. The portion sizes were absolutely huge. I ordered a Rancho Chico Burrito and it was as big as the plate itself. However there wasn't much taste. The chicken inside should have been marinated or cooked in some kind of spice to make it taste a little better. For $12 you get what you paid for in portion size but lacking in taste. As we left the restaurant I noticed the Cantina, with one lonely man sitting inside sipping his mixed mexican concoction. He seemed a little out of place, and again reminded me of a lonely truck stop along Route 1. read more
