We decided to try J D's Restaurant since I received a pop up recommendation from Yelp. Service was excellent . We ordered 2 omelets , toast and home and home fries . All were very good . Plenty of fillings in the omelets . I would recommend this place for breakfast .

Perfect diner breakfast. Pricing is fair too. I look forward to Friday mornings simply because I know I'm getting JD's for breakfast.

You cannot go wrong with anything on the menu, but I'd like to highlight one dish - Chicken Tandoori Fries! These fries are crispy, loaded with flavor with a bunch of chicken and cheese on it. I got this dish to share, but I truly needed my own to enjoy it thoroughly. The dining room is absolutely massive and I'm sure it could fit a large number of people, so I don't think making a reservation is ever necessary. It is strange that I never see many people dine in, but you could see they're very busy with takeout orders. The staff are always friendly, timely and knowledgeable about their menu. Deep red walls, wide-plank floors, framed portraits of people long gone, a fireplace; this place has the kind of character you simply can't manufacture. Add a live jazz duo playing piano and upright bass in the corner and the atmosphere is close to perfect. We settled in at the bar, which has a decent whiskey selection, and started with cocktails. We also shared the kale and butternut squash salad; we asked them to add a goat cheese medallion from their spinach salad, and honestly it was the right call. That bright, creamy note was exactly what the salad needed...or maybe what I needed. I do love fried goat cheese on a salad. Either way, it was perfect. Then came the cranberry rolls, which were the quiet star of the afternoon; crunchy on the outside, soft and flavorful inside. Don't skip these. For mains, I had the breakfast skillet, which is essentially everything but the kitchen sink loaded into a cast iron pan. Heavily loaded with meat (Arby's would be jealous), homefried potatoes with satisfying crusty bits, a couple over medium eggs, and served sizzling hot. The cheese sauce draped over the top was lighter than you'd expect, landing somewhere between a béarnaise and a classic cheese sauce; it kept the whole thing from getting too heavy. It took a while to work through, and that's not a complaint. My partner had the butternut squash and brown butter sage ravioli. It was well-cooked, flavorful, not too rich, though a little more sage would have put it over the top. The bartender had a good sense of humor and clearly knew his way around the bar. The problem was that he was doing too much; he appeared to be his own bar back, serving the six people at the bar, waiting on the tables within the lounge area, and it appeared he was covering other tables outside of the lounge area as well. He was often away, and with salad plates, appetizer plates, and menus sitting in front of us long after they were needed, the clutter added up. Pre-bussing costs nothing and makes a real difference. Tighten up the staffing model and this place is a very easy five. If you're in the area, you should stop in and check it out for yourself. I'm not sure if the jazz duo on Sunday brunch is a regular occurrence, but if it is, you should definitely make a point of it. They were wrapping up around 2:30-3:00 and it made the whole afternoon feel like something a little more special than just brunch.

It had a perfect kick of spice, very tasty and the portion was huge. The quality of all the dishes seemed higher than expected at a tavern/sports bar type place. There were a couple empty seats at the bar, some of which seemed suspiciously untouched and we soon realized why; the AC was blasting overheard and although it felt nice in the beginning since it was HOT outside, after 10 minutes it felt frigid. We stayed there anyways since there was a huge TV right in front of us. I wasn't sure what to order, but the chicken and burrata sandwich sounded really good, mostly because of the sweet, salty, and creamy contrast. I ended up ordering it and upgraded my fries to parmesan fries. My friend ordered a burger with sweet potato fries. After about 15 minutes, the food came out. I knew the chicken would be grilled since I asked before ordering so my expectations were low, but it was surprisingly still moist, did taste grilled, but lacked some seasoning. I did not open the sandwich to check how much burrata there was, but adding some more would not have hurt. The fig jam was definitely the star of the show. It overpowered some of the other flavors, but I didn't mind. The caramelized onions might've also contributed to the sweetness; they were soft and good. I was glad they did not add too much arugula since it can get bitter. The ciabatta was a good choice of bread for this sandwich, and it came lightly toasted. I did not taste much of the garlic. The fries were good. They were like regular fries, but with some parmesan cheese sprinkled on top and a parmesan dipping sauce. I also ordered some secret sauce for my fries because I went down a Reddit rabbit hole and was compelled to try it. I was not impressed and it indeed tasted a lot like ketchup and mayo, with maybe a couple other things. We stayed for the full match including overtime. Thankfully it wasn't busy enough where I felt they would kick us out for taking up chairs for too long. Our waitress was great.

Macari first worked for toy manufacturer Hasbro before launching a custom cabinetry business with another former Hasbro colleague. Today he is involved in multiple businesses. For a new venture, Macari decided to open his own brewery with Neveu, another former Hasbro employee. The partners acquired and completely renovated the circa 1872 Berkeley Mill boiler room building to house the brewery. They named it "Phantom Farms" after the Macari family's local apple orchard and bakery just down the road. Oscar Garrido and Andrea Riera, a husband-and-wife team from Chile, were hired as the head brewers. Since opening, Phantom Farms has become known for its farm-to-pint operation, its close connection to its namesake orchard, a historic taproom, and award-winning lagers. I recently visited Phantom Farms Brewing while I was in town for the day. I was scheduled to meet up with some other beer bloggers. The first thing I noticed was how beautiful the restored historic building was. There was plenty of space upstairs and downstairs, indoors and outdoors, and the brewery is also family-friendly. After exploring all of the various rooms, I looked over the draught menu. There was an eclectic mix of beer styles as well as hard cider crafted with apples from the Phantom Farms Orchard. Between mingling with the other bloggers and playing some games of Biñho, I enjoyed pours of "Half Dark" (Czech Amber Lager), "Elegant Viking" (New England IPA), "Alternate Continuum" (Barrel-Aged Saison), and "Hypernova" (Barleywine). I was very impressed with everything that I tried, especially the last two. Between an excellent roster of beers, a beautiful historic space, and some excellent company, I had a really enjoyable experience at Phantom Farms and I highly recommend them to any craft beer aficionados who are visiting the area!
