***AVIOD*** Worked with Jared on a simple leaking elbow. There was a miscommunication about what was going to be done. Ended up being charged over $350 per hour for labor. I found multiple cheaper local options I should have went with... I asked to be charged a fair price and was refused. Even after your "explanation" the fact is; even with drive time, you charged over $350 an hour for labor. This rate is absolutely absurd. Like the other negative reviews, WAY inflated charge for the job... This is not underwater welding! Just trying to save people money in the future. My water softener stopped working so I called Randazzo's water conditioner business; I talked with Jared who tried to help me over the phone. That didn't work so he stopped by the next day and cleaned and serviced the system. He had my system up and working in about an hour. It was good while it lasted. Rick is retired and sold his business to Almaden Valley Plumbing. Service for replacing filters only is now $200. A new RO system with filters preinstalled on Amazon is also about $200 so it's hard to justify using the new company to replace filters. Rick showed me how to replace the filters last time and it's not that hard and my system takes standard filters that I can just order from Amazon for about $20. read more

I haven't had this water softener long enough to attest to its durability, etc. but I can tell you that the process was painless and I have wonderful soft water. Randazzo's was awesome. Had them come out to quote a water softener installation. They were not only the best in terms of price, but also quickest to complete the job. It was a bit strange that they contract out the job to another party to do, but the job was done well. I did have an issue with the water coming into the house being at a lower pressure, causing noise in the pipes, but Rick came out to take a look and fixed the situation. I had a new water conditioner installed over 5 years ago. I had a recent issue with noise coming from the water conditioner. I called them and he advised me to go to Home Depot and buy a water pressure test gauge and to check my water PSI. $9.98 gauge and my water was 40psi. I adjusted to 60psi and the noise went away. My water regulator is 2 feet away from the water conditioner, so the noise could have been from the regulator. Anyway Randazzo called back in the afternoon to follow up. I told him everything was ok now. He said great and that I saved myself a service call! Other than adding salt to my water conditioner I have not had any problems with it. Unlike the 2 major brands I had years before. I highly recommend them. read more

I called Rick Randazzo after reading the good reviews from other Yelpers. Great guy! We had made an appointment for some time this afternoon and Rick gave me a 20 minutes heads up so I was able to leave work and meet him at my home without actually having to take half a day and wait around. He got there exactly when he said he would. Turns out my water softener was fine (it's only plumbed into the hot water) but Rick was kind enough to spend the time explaining why I was getting water spots on my glasses and shower doors. Even came in to take a look for me. At some point in the future if and when my water softener fails, I'll be calling Rick to install a new one. An electric surge caused my water softener to go completely out (no LED display and stopped working). I called Randazzo's whose company installed the system years ago. There are so many good things to say about the people at Randazzo's. They replaced a Kenmore water conditioning system with one of their own, and the price, quality, and service were all outstanding. - Friendly - Professional - Exceptional quality and customer service Highly recommended. A year or more after they installed the system, we noticed a leak in the pipe next to the water conditioner. My plumber speculated that when the system was put in, the weld might have been stressed - leading to the leak later on. Randazzo did not argue that this might have been caused by their installation - even though time had passed and there was no way of saying with any certainty that they were at fault. We agreed they would pay 50% of the cost. That's not all! When they didn't receive from me a copy of the plumber's invoice (the post office sent it to the wrong address), Randazzo's called to remind me! Amazing! Purchased a system 12 years ago. It was expensive compared to the online alternatives, but I trusted Rick and thought I was buying a quality unit from someone who would service it. The resin wore out, so I called Rick who said that he does not replace resin. He explained how it would be very expensive for me to do myself and suggested that I buy a new unit from him. Please do your research before purchasing from Rick. Ask him if he will replace the resin when it wears out in 10-12 years. He is very knowledgeable and has the best equipment. He has a contractor's license from the State of California. Firms like Culligan and others have a "Sales Rep" and the markup on their units is in the unbelievable range. For San Jose, where I live, they came out and quoted me $2500 for a basic water conditioner. Randazzo's has the same core basic unit and I got it all plus a year's warranty for $950. LIfetime guarantee. Yep, that is all I paid. He is great as we had a water outage once, and he came and reset the conditioner at no charge. I have had the unit now for 18 months with absolutely no problems. Certain parts of San Jose (and especially where I live) have very hard water. Not good for your skin and cothes. Once we got the Randazzo conditioner, life was good. My wife and three girlfriends all commented on how their hair was much more manageable and shiny, and how the soapy soap lathered up much better on their skin and felt like velvety suds. Bought my home last year and found out that the Sears water softener was broken immediately after I bought it. I am a pretty serious shopper and I went through the laundry list of options: - Culligan Water Conditioning - Kinetico Unit from De Anza Water Conditioning Inc - Home Depot (RainSoft) - SEARS option (Kenmore) So, I started at the top of the food chain. RainSoft came to our home. Tried to sell us other products. Same with DeAnza and Culligan. They all came to our home to take a look. Here is the bottom line: water softening technology is not rocket science. The top dogs make it seem like you need some computer from outer space to make this stuff works but in reality, you fill any softener with salt pellets (or potassium). You let simple science work. Plus, you probably will not taste any difference between softeners. So, went with Rick and I have been happy since I bought it (going on about year now). The real proof that this is the way to go... I travel a lot for work and one night there was an issue with the unit. It was a small leak (it hasn't leaked since) and my wife calls Rick. He was over that night and took care of it. We're really pleased we chose Randazzo's Water Conditioning. Rick came out and gave us a really strong quote, and was also really helpful with advice. Rick uses a third party plumber for the install - so you write two checks, one to the plumber and the other to Rick. Where the service really stood out was afterwards. We had a couple of teething issues after the install - which I expected, but Rick came out immediately, reconfigured the water conditioner, and then followed up to make sure everything was okay. We burned through a little more salt than expected in the first week, and Rick even came over and dropped an extra bag over - and took an extra look to make sure everything was okay. Rick installed our water softener a few months ago. I really like Rick personally, he is a straight-shooter, knows his stuff, and he wasn't out to upsell us into water filters for the kitchen or monthly service fees. Rick charged us a fair price and installed on time. I'm deducting one star for two small issues: 1) Rick subcontracted out the actual install but didn't mention this to us at all. I was surprised when someone other than Rick showed up for the install and I had to split the payment between the installer and Rick. I should have been told in advance about that. 2) The installer overtightened a part on the drain tube and cracked it. We let Rick know when we discovered this and he fixed it right away. Our home had a water softener at some time in the past, but the previous owner had removed it when it failed, leaving only the hookup present. I called Randazzo's after a bit of research into area companies, and spoke to Rick. He gathered sizing information and arrived within two hours to provide a formal quote. He explained clearly that I could either use my own plumber or use his subcontractor, Orange Plumbing, but cautioned that either way, he strongly recommended replacing the old diverter valve with something more substantial. I went with Orange and the install was scheduled for two days later. The unit installed is clearly of high quality, and the plumbing installation is a thing of beauty -- all copper, top-quality ball valves, installed by a craftsman who cares about his work. Basically, a no-pressure quote, everything clearly explained in advance, zero upsell, friendly and experienced personnel who clearly care about their business. Our house came with a water softener system. The previous owners left the number of the man who had installed it, recommending we call him if we had any problems. Well, the first time we called, he was rude and abrupt, refusing to help us determine if the "problem" was serious or just part of normal functioning unless we paid for an expensive home visit. It took a lot of online research to figure out our system was just going through a normal regeneration, no thanks to him. So when we later developed a definite problem, I did some research on Yelp.com, and found Randazzo's company. Rick asked us several questions before coming out, to determine if he would be able to address our specific problem. He arrived on schedule. He had never seen our particular (odd) make of water softener system, but set about assessing it and fixing several problems. He fixed a broken hose and supplied a part that was missing, without charging more that the call-out fee. He spotted a problem with a leaking pipe, and referred us to his capable plumber. We made a separate appointment with the plumber, and soon everything was good as new. We recently had another problem with our system. We had a power outage, and the unit timer had switched off. We called Rick again, who offered to trouble-shoot over the phone; he told us what to do and saved us a call-out fee. Now how many businesses would do THAT? He is honest, knowledgeable, and capable. So Randazzos installed my softener probably at least 15 years ago. Since then i have never had an issue with the unit. It works perfect. A couple weeks ago a tree limb fell on it and broke a piece. I called them and told him what had happened. Be told me that that part was no longer made. Well here is where some other person would just sell me a new unit. But nope, he said well it's not made anymore but let me look around. Sure enough he found the part and gave it to me for free!. And we are not talking some 50 cent spring here. My only option was to purchase a new system. He came out with his helper early Monday morning, removed the old system, installed the new system and I was all set. I live in a part of San Jose that has extremely hard water and, after living with it for several years, finally decided to get a water softener and had Randazzo's install it. The experience is everything you expect from a family-run American business that has been doing this, quite literally, for two generations. No sales push. No gimmicky "water hardness" tests like you will get from Culligan. No transparent up-sells. Rick Randazzo basically sells one unit, which is solid, well-built, top-end but very competitively priced. Rick will tell you it's the same equipment he uses in his own home, and I believe it. It was professionally installed by their regular plumbing subcontractor (Orange Plumbing), who did an excellent job. The unit works flawlessly and the difference in the water has been dramatic. Rick and their plumber took the time to explain how the unit works and how to replace the salt. Others have commented on Rick's absolute commitment to customer service, and I cannot disagree, The day the unit was installed, I lost hot water in my house and thought it might have something to do with the softener installation. I did not discover it until late in the evening, so I called Rick and left a voice message but did not consider it an emergency. He called back in ten minutes and then drove 25 minutes out to my house around 10pm to inspect the unit. It turned out that the pilot light on the water heater had gone out (not their fault -- probably went out when I was cleaning around the area and had nothing to do with the softener they installed), but Rick fixed that and everything was working. I offered him some money to compensate him for having come out so late but he refused to accept it. There are, regrettably, too few businesses out there that maintain this level of integrity, honesty and take this much pride in their work. When I bought my house in San Jose, I was having horrible dry skin issues from the hardness of the water. Not to mention, all of my toilets, sinks, and appliances had hard water stains and residue on them. I decided to put in a water softener so i called Rick. Randazzo's has been handling the water softener needs at my parents' home for like 20 years. I figured I'd be in good hands and I'm happy to say I was! We bought our house last year and it came with a water softener. My husband and I were completely clueless about maintaining and refilling softener salt, and accidentally got let our system get into a non-working state. After realizing something was wrong with our system, we called Randazzo. We asked if they would come out to help us get it back into a working state. They actually said that it wasn't their system, so they wouldn't be able to really help us, BUT they gave us step by step instructions on how we could do it ourselves! They answered all of our questions even though they would not be getting anything out of it.
