Be cautious when considering this service. Although the filter was replaced as scheduled, the water quality afterward was extremely poor--it had a strong chlorine smell and unpleasant taste. When we raised the concern, the response was unprofessional and dismissive; instead of addressing the issue, we were blamed and told we were exaggerating. After being a long-time customer, this experience was highly disappointing. Based on this, I would strongly advise others to think twice before using this service. We were immediately warned that we would be charged $125 if no issue was found, which felt like an attempt to discourage us from reporting a genuine problem. Our concerns were then labeled as "exaggerations," and we were told that what we were experiencing "doesn't make sense." Multiple fix appointments cancelled (without notification by the way), each time someone answers and says "I don't know the calendar says cancelled" "the secretary is not here" or "we will try to get you on the schedule in a few weeks" - close to two months without water now. Within the last year, some piston broke in the valve so I called for service and was told the person who knew these systems is not there anymore so no service, no choice. They'll just sell me a brand new system. Not jazzed about that. Few months later I had time to focus on this again so called them up. Same thing, won't fix anymore, just install a new system. Fine, but man was communication terrible. No sympathy, no patience. In a short call (literally 5minutes) I was told: - "Yeah I just don't like working on those systems anymore they break" - "It's out of warranty so no I'm not going to work on it. Doesn't matter if you want to fix it or not." - "I don't care how you feel dude, this is how it is, take it or leave it." - "If you don't want a new system just go somewhere else, it's not my problem." - "I chose to take your call on a Sunday, what else do you want?" When I said "the feedback is you're making me feel like crap for choosing you guys now" he just hung up on me. I've had a city water filter whole house filter system since 2019. Never really had any issues until the last year as sediment has become a problem on DSRSD water. System clogged with sediment sometime in the last 6 months and I didn't even realize it until filters were changed for my annual service. Luna and Sal were out today to install a second sediment filter which is bigger micron to hopefully keep the system from clogging in the future. They were in and out in barely 35 minutes. Beyond infuriating. Since installing two years ago, they sent people who didn't know how to do the work. Last week, Fernando showed up 20 mins late and told me he's not moving anything in the garage and not moving anything back and asked me where the water shut off valve is. How am I suppose to know? No one told me to move anything. He said we'll need to reschedule. The lady who rescheduled me, I asked if I need to do anything to prep for the reschedule or move anything around. She said no, they'll do everything because the owner will come himself. Day came, owner had to cancel and they rescheduled me for today. Fernando shows up. 45 mins late. Moves around everything in my garage, tossing the filter plastic wrapper on the ground, everything wet. I didn't check the garage since I wrote him a check inside the house by my kitchen. Everything was left a mess. I paid $633 "with a discount" clay said, for a membrane and filter change. I called clay, the owner, who said he already gave me a 10% discount for not paying cc and "at least it got done". He also said he doesn't know what my garage looked like beforehand. I said well, I saw Fernando taking pictures in on the camera beforehand. They didn't tell me Fernando was coming today. Clay said this is his only guy right now to service things. I will never use this business and would share the same with neighbors, friends and coworkers. City Water Filter replaced my filters on Monday (2/5/24), and caused a water leak, which I reported the same day. After much back and forth, they scheduled a fix for Saturday evening (2/10/24). As one would normally experience, I expected them to take full responsibility and make things right. However, to my surprise, on Saturday they came in expecting me to pay for the full system replacement. This didn't seem right to me and therefore I rejected the proposal. They left without making any fix. I have honestly never had this kind of experience with a small business. I wouldn't have worked with them in the first place given there are 10s of other businesses rated much higher on Yelp. I kind of inherited them from the previous home owner and forgot to do my due diligence. I've paid them $640 for the filter replacements, and am left with a leaky water filtration system. [Edit] I found another Water Filtration Business, who fixed the leak! It was the automatic shutoff valve, which they replaced for under 200! This goes to show that the 5 year warranty is a farce. They response super fast on early Monday Morning and immediately sent Chris and Larry here to fix the leaking. This was not a good experience; had a quote for the service, we scheduled a time , plumber arrived - job is larger than they thought can't perform it alone and the cost is doubled. Ok, we can get past that all I want is the work to be done - schedule another time, they come and perform the service. They request payment immediately, ok no problem. Later see that I have a drip coming from the filtering system, not sure how to stop it, reached back out to them two times but no response :( I currently just have the water filtration system in bypass mode as I look for someone else to come look at it. Updated review 9/28/23: it's been almost 7 years since City Water installed my softener system and RO system. They have always done an amazing job coming out annually to replace the filters and such. This time around it was time to change out my whole RO system for a new one, mine was getting to end of life and I didn't want any issues. Clay initially came out and assessed my systems and gave his recommendations. He is amazing, full of awesome knowledge and great to talk to. Next day he had Larry and his son swing by to set up the systems. I got the new RO system and added a carbon filter to my existing water softener that also has a sediment filter. The two of these combined will definitely provide cleaner water. Overall, everything took about a little over an hour. I would give 0 stars if possible. The receptionist quoted $150 on phone for changing four filters on my reverse osmosis filter. I wasn't home when they showed up on a time not agreed upon. My husband was home but he didn't know what was being serviced. They ended up charging him $420 for changing 4 filters which are $20 each at the most and which took all of 15 minutes. My experience with them has been very unpleasant and I find them (especially manager Clay) to be rude and unprofessional. Following the installation, we experienced reduced water pressure throughout the home. I also started seeing resin beads (media inside water softener) in home's plumbing system (eventually affecting every single plumbing fixture) They came home on 4 different occasions to "fix" / "analyze" the problem, but they never really fixed it. On the 5th callback, a couple of technicians came home and took out some resin beads, but failed to fix the problem. Out of concern, I called Pentair (water softener manufacturer) seeking an answer to my question - "What causes resin beads to leak into plumbing system". I was told right off the bat that the water softener's inlet and outlet pipe was connected backwards. It was very dreadful and unpleasant to see a company had overlooked and failed in executing the very basics of the business that they are licensed for. I mean, hooking up the water softener's connection backwards is a terrible mistake by itself. Overlooking that mistake over a series of callbacks is messing things up on a whole different level. Once you start seeing resin beads in the plumbing system, any person with common sense would know the water softener as well as the entire home's plumbing system has been compromised. It seriously takes guts to defend even after showing pictures of resin beads (supporting my claim). I later realized it wasn't worth proving them wrong and started considering legal actions as the repair costs exceed the installation amount. read more

UPDATE: I lived in this house for 4.5 years. I've made sure with the service lady that I still had warranty left. Clay is not only rude but also very dishonest. What a shame. ------- Been with the company about 10 years on two different houses. It has been good until a problem surfaced on my water filter. Started to leak after their annual filter replacement, about $600. I called and they replaced the faucet but leak continued. Leak detection mechanism kicked in and stopped producing water. Emailed them and I was told to buy the parts from Amazon and replace it myself. After I replaced it twice,the problem came back. I called them and said I'd like get warranty service. They told me they suspect faulty filter and told me to replace filters ahead of schedule. Paid $340. Leak remained. I called them and they told me to replace more filter for $$. I told the service lady it is not fair to have me fix and pay every time. She said to pay extra $$ and there is nothing she could do as she just work there and don't make decisions. Scam Alert! City Water Filter (CWF) installed our water filter 2 years ago. We chose CWF because Chris came to our house, talked intelligently about the product, did a hardness test and told us we didn't need the full-fledged water softener as our water was not hard. The price CWF quoted us for their system was the same as the full water softener from a competing vendor. We decided to go with CWF Later we found out from San Jose Water that our water in Almaden is as hard as it gets. We even verified it with a water hardness kit and sent the results to CWF. However instead of acknowledging their mistake they wanted to charge full price to upgrade our system to a full water softener. And this after their own technician admitted to us their partial softener system doesn't work in our area Totally unprofessional behavior and not something you expect from a company dealing with something as important and basic as water quality PS we had chosen clear glass for one of our showers. Originally contacted CWF to talk about a salt/resin/RO water softening solution for my home, so the awful & criminally overpriced San Jose water would stop ruining everything it touches. Clay came out and we got to talking and I ended up deciding to go with a Voltea Capacitive Deionization (DiEntry) system instead - higher up-front costs but no salt, no wasteful RO. Chris & Larry showed up at the agreed time, got the install handled, and were nice & courteous along the way. We had a leakage hiccup later on, but Clay came back and handled it as soon as he could and it's been smooth sailing ever since. The product itself is terrific - I now have water without pulp!
