Hey all! I've been going to the Randolph diner since I was a kid, prior to the renovations and beautification of their building. Probably 15+ years. I still remember it from when I was a teenager being quite different. The large interior gives this place an upscale feel, but the food maintains the diner status for sure - they have it all! I have never waited for a table longer than a few minutes, even with a group of 8, because of the amount of space. Parking can be tricky yes, but it proves that people keep coming back! Wait staff are friendly, though sometimes could use more training. I think it's tough when you have to have so many people working at once, but the food is really the focus here. I've gotten plenty of things off the menu but have a couple favorites: red velvet and chocolate chip pancakes, the waffle (with fruit, chicken, or however), vanilla milkshake, the fries (and brown gravy!), and the chicken finger panini or wrap. Very rarely am I disappointed with my meal - and usually it's something small and they are happy to make sure you have a good experience. Recently I tried their Moscow mule and loved that, too! Met up for brunch. First time coming here and I heard only goods things even though their Yelp rating was mid. The place is not your average Jersey diner. It's got a contemporary look and with higher end decor. I was impressed. We sat at the bar and our server was eager to help. He got a Denver omelet with semi burned white toast. They put the burned side on the inside so upon presentation, it looked OK. He wasn't happy but he also wasn't gonna make a big deal about burned toast. I got the Crispy Chicken Sandwich with fries. Menu items contain the expected comfort foods from a diner (disco fries, Greek and Italian style dishes, burgers, sandwiches and breakfast items). The dessert case has an array of cakes and pies (all huge). We got a western omelette with home fries and pancakes. We also got a portion of plain French toast. Portions were generous. The omelette was very yummy (had plenty of onions, peppers and ham). The home fries were shredded potatoes that were perfectly browned and crispy on the outside. The pancakes were also big. Pains me to write this, because I enjoy the atmosphere. However, the front server is not very friendly. And the past two visits there have been flies on the divider adjacent to the booths. So much so that my family lost our appetite and just paid and left. This is not what one wants to see while eating a meal. To top it off, the strawberries provided to our table were literally rotted. Diners are always tricky as they have so many options available, that I feel they are never specialized on anything so everything is ok. The place is family friendly, as they give you coloring paper and crayons when you get in there. The kids menu options are pretty good, but the dishes are just ok. Had spaghetti meatballs from the kids menu and the sauce tasted like pre-made and the meatballs had nothing special. Is it fair to even call this place a diner? The food is way better than what I'd expect from a diner and the place has got a sleek, modern design. I loved sitting on the roofed patio, which allows you to enjoy the fresh air or sunlight, but also has shades and heaters so you're never uncomfortable. What I love about the menu is that the prices are perfect. Any other breakfast or brunch spot for the same food would charge you at least $10 more with food that's usually equal or inferior in quality. I also loved that the menu has some generous combo options. If you're like me, you've probably been frustrated with menus where you can't quite seem to get everything you want to try in one order, you gotta sacrifice at least one thing (unless you go to IHOP, but then you probably wouldn't be reading this anyway). With my Build Your Own Omlette, I was able to get pancakes and home fries on the side. Was it way too much food to eat in one sitting? Yeah. Did I love that I got to try it all? Hell yeah! For my tastes, all the food needed more flavor. That's not a huge issue at a breakfast spot since I gotta add tobasco or some other hot sauce to my breakfast food anyway. The omelette was huge, came with generous portions of spinach, mushroom, and roasted red peppers that I ordered. It was cooked to be just the right amount of fried and fluffy. Would recommend! Similarly, the pancakes were serviceably fluffy and cooked just right. Since moving to Randolph, the diner has been one of our go to places as it's close to where we live. However, service and food quality has began to decline. The last few times we've gone it's been a waiting game waiting for our waiter/waitress to come back after taking our orders for meals. This past Thursday we went and we barely sat down and the waiter asked what we wanted to drink- we hadn't even had a chance to look at a menu. He came back shortly and had to ask that he come back as we were still looking at the menu and seemed annoyed. After giving my drink order he went to take the drink menu and I asked that he leave it because I still wanted to look at it. Again seemed annoyed at this request. For the amount of money the diner charged their food quality has seem to go down over the last couple years. Also not sure what is happening in the kitchen as the last few times our orders have come out wrong or over done or with the paper still on the hamburger that keeps them separate when buying in bulk. The chicken tenders are not what they used to be not sure if they switched their distributor but they used to be so much better. Chicken quesadilla can also use more cheese. Mozzarella sticks are they only thing that have maintained consistency. At this point don't waste your money on mixed drinks at the diner. They're usually just whatever the mixer is. We got margaritas the other night and it was pretty much just pineapple juice I was drinking. The drinks also used to be much better and have also gone down hill. I was there for lunch with a friend. I ordered the buffalo chicken sliders and they were really disappointing. The chicken was a flat, breaded chicken patty that was cut into 4 pieces and put on the slider buns. 2 of the buns were stale and hard, so I only ate the other 2. For $14.95 I expected a higher quality sandwich. I will say that the fries were good. The first time I reviewed this place was over a decade ago-before their renovations. Over the past 5 years or so I've probably eaten here at least once every two months and it's always great. It's also usually pretty busy, but I've never had to wait for a table...a parking spot maybe, but not a table. We usually come here for either breakfast or lunch, but regardless of WHEN you come, you won't leave hungry. Yeah, it's a little pricey, but their portions are pretty big. For lunch or dinner I can usually pull two meals from an order. They also have a liquor license here so if you want to hang out in the bar area and watch a game...you can. There are. We didn't want to cook this year so we looked online for a Holiday Buffet. We saw the Randolph Dinner's ad for their Thanksgiving Buffet, we were impressed by their online ad for the 'Thanksgiving Buffet.' The colorful image of the Thanksgiving foods looked appetizing and after listing pie, it promised "much, much more"! Our reservations were for a certain time and we arrived two minutes past the time, it wouldn't have mattered if we got there on time, almost every table upstairs was full. We were ushered over to a table next to the windows on one side and the line of people standing and waiting to get to the buffet tables on the other side of the table, blocking us in. We said it wouldn't work for us, and so they moved the table to another area in the room, which was better. They asked us for our drink choices, which for us was soda and ice tea. On the buffet tables the entire selection of food containers was maned by young servers, waiting to dish out the food onto your plates. The young server that dished out the string beans and corn didn't drain the spoonful's and so my plate was sort of like soup by the time I got to the sweet potatoes, the next young server that offered the dark turkey meat, well, can you say "plopped a spoonful onto my plate"? I then got a slice of Prime Rib which was fatty as it was getting down to the end of the beef. The desserts were three different types of pie, sliced and waiting for you to choose, that's it, no "much, much more" Just a slice of pie with a can of whipped cream for you to squirt onto your pie selection. The sweet potato's had a couple of cloves mixed in with the potatoes, not nice to bite on, the pasta was cold and the dark turkey meat was stringy.
