I LOVE this salon. The staff is so professional. The salon is so cute too, from the color on the walls, to the Pier 1 Mirrors in front of all the chairs. The owner Rachel is so sweet, and Laura my stylist is awesome. Nobody's ever been able to make my hair curl, and she not only got it to curl, but it stayed all day too. Other salons I've gone to made my blond highlights look very unnatural, but she definitely knew what she was doing. And the prices are very reasonable. Not like other overpriced salons in Newport. I haven't been able to go there in a while, because I work 60 hours a week now, so I'm never off when they're open. But if they're ever open late, I'll be in to get my roots done! read more

Went in on a same day appt with long messy curly hair, came out with a (reasonably priced!) neat short cut. I love it! I loved my stylist, but the salon called me to reschedule my appointment, then CHARGED me $120! The owner refused to refund the money blaming me for missing the appointment! When I went in to rectify the issue, the owner was bent on blaming me and proving it was my fault. In addition, the owner claims to send you text messages as appointment reminders, but I never got any. Her systems don't seem to be working, and rather than fix them, she blames her customers. I am so sad to have to leave the salon, and find a new stylist, but I cannot do business with a place that treats customers this way. read more

After my regular hairdresser went on maternity leave, I decided I would try cutting my own hair and boy did I royally mess it up, what a mistake! I needed to find someone new and was recommended to Christine at RaNew Salon. Christine patiently reshaped my hair...not an easy task given that I was new to her and had butchered my cut. Christine knew exactly what to do to manage wavy, thick, unevenly cut (by me) hair and gave me a great style. I have found my new hairdresser and highly recommend Christine! read more

I've been going to Rachel since she first opened Ki-Ra and would even book appointments during visits to Newport after I moved out of state. She is hands down the best stylist I've had. After I leave the appointment, I want to go out and show off my hair, not go home and fiddle with it until it feels/looks right. When we moved back to Newport I was so glad that a friend let me know that she had moved to her own salon on lower Thames and made an appointment immediately. She has a wonderful staff and offers everything to pamper you from head to toe. I highly recommend them and wish that I could take them with me every time we change duty stations! read more

Literally the best color I have ever gotten. I got my hair done yesterday at a different salon and it was so bad. Called ranew this morning in a panic and they fit me in this afternoon. Ali is seriously the best. So friendly and so good at her job. My hair is just like the picture I showed her, it's perfect! I had spent 200$ at another salon in town and so I didn't want to spend a ton more to fix my hair. They were so understanding and so reasonably priced. I will most definitely be back! read more

Perhaps poor training is too blame? I was visiting Newport from NYC and had a wedding to attend so I called our hotel, asked for a recommendation and made an appointment here for a blow out. It was a rainy day and my hair can be tricky in humidity but is generally really easy to blow dry so I asked her to do something that looked natural and not like I was going to prom or about to report the 5 o'clock news but maybe with a little bit of wave because of the weather... I started to get worried when after the shampoo she used a flat paddle brush to blow dry my hair instead of a round brush. I told myself not to worry, she's the pro and there must be a reason for this decision. I didn't want to tell her what to do so I hinted that I can only get my bangs straight if I use a round brush... but she kept on going with the paddle brush. This is where it gets tricky, did my hair look horrible because I didn't explain what I wanted clearly, or because she didn't listen to me? Because I specifically said 'Natural' and 'Not Prom-like' I have to say it was her fault. She ended up using a curling iron all over my hair, and used so much hairspray that my hair felt incredibly crunchy and damaged and it took me 2 washes to get it all out. She also never straightening my bangs so they were frizzy and half curly. In the end, even if I wanted ringlet curls these were frizzy, uneven and poorly done, so I went home incredibly disappointed and feeling like I looked ugly and awful. I will absolutely never go back here again (not that I'm in Newport that often) and am very tempted to tell the Hotel they need to come up with a better place to recommend. Maybe it was just the person I saw, but it's up to the salon to hire and train people that they want representing their company. read more

So I know that I am dude but I was tired of getting the same old fade from the local barber and needed a style. I stopped into RaNew and was greeted by a warm friendily face. The salon was busy but they managed to fit me. A women named Laura was my stylist. She beared wi me while I tried to explain what I wanted. Needless to say she nailed it. I used to go to Ki-Ra, but moved to Ra-New because all the people who I would see moved. Rachel is a fabulous hair technician. I started seeing her 2 years ago when I moved here and have always been extremely satisfied. I have thin, breakable hair, but do highlight it. This can be a dangerous combo if the wrong stylist touches my hair (and, trust me, I have horror stories). Rachel has always handled my hair wonderfully and I love what she does. I also see Bethany Caro for my esthetician needs. She does a great job and I enjoy her company. Lastly, I use Samantha for pedicures. I haven't see her at the new salon yet, but at Ki-Ra I did the Shellac nail polish and I LOVE it. Samantha does a very good job putting it on neatly and it comes out SO much better than the quick, Asian places on the island. I can't say enough good things about the Ra-New crew and I wish them all the best with the new business!!! read more

RaNew Salon is much like Cheers-" Where everybody knows your name, and they're always glad you came". The service is consistent, something I find very important. Every girl I have gone to has listened to my ideas and have never let me leave hating my hair. Having been a customer at RaNew since Rachel opened the salon a couple of years ago, not only has my hair looked wonderful, my self image has also improved. I got my nails done the day before my wedding here with my sister, mom, and mother in law. A great place and the girls were very nice and friendly! The only thing I recommend is to bring your own nail polish with you. There wasn't a great selection of nail polish at all. I just went to RaNew for the first time yesterday. I always get nervous going to new salons, but this one put me right at ease. It's in a great location on Thames with ample free parking. The staff is incredibly helpful and welcoming. I had my haircut with Laura, who was an absolute joy to hang out with while she cut my hair. It's always nice when you feel like you leave a salon with a great hair cut and a potential friend. I asked for a trim and to clean up my long layers, and she was quick, efficient, and made sure I was pleased. My bridal party and I had our hair done at RaNew for my wedding in Newport back in June. What a great salon! Everyone who works there is so nice and professional, the atmosphere of the salon is very laid back. My bridesmaids loved their hair, and my updo could not have been more perfect. Laura is not only an incredibly friendly person, but also a hair genius / wedding updo ninja / curl-pinning wizard of the highest order. Seriously, she's wonderful. She perfectly re-created the style from my trial (which she expertly nailed after only seeing one photo of what I wanted). My hair and my bridesmaids' hair stayed firmly in place all night, even after a full night of wedding festivities and dancing. My hair was so beautiful I didn't want to take it out that night. The price was also quite reasonable for a Newport salon. In searching for a place to get my wedding party's hair done I had been pretty dismayed by the pretentious / overpriced vibe I was getting from some of the other salons in Newport, and RaNew was a great alternative to those places. This was my first time considering a spray tan. But as I was about to see my family and friends that I have not seen in a very long time, I wanted to look my absolute best. I was skeptical at first as I have never done a spray tan. I first called ahead and spoke to Bailey. She was patient with the TON of questions I asked her and quickly put to ease any concerns I had. I arrived 15 minutes before my appointment and was cheerfully greeted and informed that Bailey would be with me shortly. Within minutes, Bailey greeted me and proceeded to escort me to the spray tanning room. Bailey took her time to completely explain the process and what I should expect before, during, and after the process. Bailey was patient, friendly and sensitive to my apprehensive posture. The end result ended up being MORE than what I expected. The entire process was seamless, a GREAT value, and most of all the respectful treatment that I received from Bailey and the rest of the staff at RaNew, rivals large higher end salons bar none! Without a doubt, I would highly recommend RaNew for spray tanning to anyone that is looking for a similar experience. I left RaNew feeling valued, welcome, and totally satisfied with the ENTIRE process.
