Tasty and amazing food, as always. We decided to get Indian for the Super Bowl. Much better than the normal chicken wings and pizza. I've been coming to Rang since moving to the area almost eight years ago and they are just so so so good. They remember me which is always so nice. It's great to go in and feel like you're recognized! I was challenged though this last visit to be less boring so next order is going to be totally changed up. Absolutely delicious Indian restaurant that we discovered during the COVID-19 pandemic. We live in Charlestown so it's easy to drive to Stoneham and get pick-up. I love the chicken kabobs, vegetable rice, Garlic naan, roti bread and vegetable samosas. They are so nice and they prepare the food very quickly! Since moving from Somerville to North Medford two years ago, we've missed having a variety of good, solid Indian restaurants nearby to choose from. Tonight we took a chance on Rang Indian Bistro - even though it was "all the way in Stoneham" (your sense of distance gets a little warped when you've always lived in or near the city) - and it did not disappoint! 1) MENU: Very good selection, but not overwhelming. 2) CUSTOMER SERVICE: I didn't see plain old chana masala on the menu, so I called in my order (which I recommend whenever possible anyway, so restaurants don't have to pay fees to delivery services). Friendly, patient, accommodating, and grateful for both our business and a solid tip during pandemic. 3) DELIVERY: On time (like, to the minute promised), social distanced. Delivery rang the doorbell, left the bag on our front step. 4) FOOD: Everything arrived warm/almost hot. Kashmiri naan, vegetable mixed appetizers, chana masala (not on menu, which is why I called), bhindi masala, lamb tikka masala (we asked for medium-to-hot), extra basmati rice. We ordered for two, we both fairly packed our plates, and there's leftovers for at least one more plate each! They also threw in complimentary rice pudding, which was a nice touch. Everything was delicious, and just what we had been missing! Only criticism: The veg mixed appetizers (four items, one each). Miraculously, they arrived hot and somewhat crisp! But as another reviewer has pointed out, they looked and tasted the same, kinda like bland frozen party appetizers? I'll pass on this next time. 5) PRICE: Competitive. GOOD Indian food takes a lot of work and a lot of time, plus a little can go a long way. Worth every penny. In sum, we had an excellent first experience with Rang Indian Bistro. My sister said she enjoyed coming here, so I let her bring me here. Great move! Very authentic and wicked awesome Indian food! We started with the Garlic Naan and Kashmiri Naan. They offered some Veggie Pakoras on the house....nice! She had the Mixed Grill and really enjoyed it. I had the Lamb Vindaloo (Medium hot) and it was a little light on heat...but was long lasting on it with each bite. The lamb was awesome! She also had some Mango/Mint Chutney and enjoyed it. We took home the leftovers and I enjoyed the Lamb again even more after 15 hours marinated in the Vindaloo sauce. Service was even better than the food! Look forward to our next visit. Brought a friend in for lunch. Wonderful staff to care for her spice fears. Love the lamb vindaloo and the spicy chutney which my friend didn't touch. She had the korma and fell in love. I asked about two dishes and the staff suggested nicely one was enough. Definitely big eyes syndrome. If you like quality this is one of the best stretching from Weymouth mass to the Salem area I've tried many. I definitely make this a destination place. I was hesitant to try this place because it doesn't look like too much from outside. I always assumed this was more of a takeout place than a sit-down restaurant. And I see it's leaning more towards the latter as people still come in just for takeout. But it was a nice enough place. We were here Friday night. Walked in - seated immediately. If you saw a handsome guy there last Friday - yeah - that was me! The place looks.. OK. I mean it's a big open room that's been painted yellow and red with Ikea-type lighting fixtures. A light curtain around the front door which I like but in the winter that little thing isn't gonna do anything for ya! In the back is a little bar - two stools - and behind that through a small window you can see the chef cooking, which I thought was nice. We ordered some wheat bread (I forget their word for it), chicken korma, and some chicken-spinach dish. Oh and beer - I got this "Flying Horse" beer which I highly recommend! It comes in a giant bottle - awesome! We were served pretty quickly and that chicken korma is to DIE for! It has this perfect level of heat with this ultra-savory flavor behind it. OH I LOVE it!!! We had gone to their "sister" restaurant in Newburyport last year and they are the ones who told us about this place. So - I knew the chicken korma would be good and it was like CRACK. WOW. GET IT. The other dish - the chicken-spinach one - also VERY GOOD. The incorporation of spinach was perfectly done - wonderful spinach flavor without that weird feeling you get on your teeth. Know what I'm talking about?! We even got desert - this rice pudding which was underwhelming. But after the spicy food we had - it was hard to taste anything. I loved that beer, though. I got 2 dishes for lunch on a Wednesday at this place. First, the positive things. First off their setup is great for Covid - there's a lot of distance between the kitchen and the table on which the take out food is placed. Second, they did a nice job with the heat levels - their mild was pleasantly mild. So I called at 1:44, within the window of lunch specials. The person on the phone was friendly, but didn't mention that there were lunch specials. So the difference between $6.95 & $12.95 is significant. I realize one of the dishes was only on the dinner menu - tadka dal - but the other dish, kabuki chana, on the lunch menu and u would have liked to have known that. And here is the other issue... there just wasn't very much food for the price they were charging. They both came in 16 Oz containers, which is standard. The kabuli chana was watery and not that flavorful. The tadka dal was much tastier, and is often a more soup-like dish - so I would say it was within the range of reasonable concentration of ingredients, but still right on the edge. I think there must be other options in the area that provide more food for the price. read more

I've gone here numerous times in the past year and a half and realized I never put a review. If I could give this place ten stars I would. I just dined here last night and can't wait to go back. I'll start with the food. Nothin I've eaten here has been bad. Every dish is absolutely amazing. Lots of different flavors and great textures with everything. The scent of the food cooking while sitting in the restaurant just makes your mouth water. The wait staff is the best part of the experience though. Staffs are very nice and right now for winter they have a big curtain hanging beside the entrance and block the wind, which is very considerate and neat. This is my first visit to the restaurant. It was small. More intimate than tiny. The downside? The door open directly into the dining room and even with the curtains that are there it was chilly as we Sat right in front. Let me start by saying I don't know much about Indian food but I do know what I like. Not good at knowing names of things. We started with a vegetable mixed appetizer. Five different things although there was only one of each send to try. I thought it was rather expensive given what we were trying for an appetizer. We had to share each thing so it wasn't very large. We ordered wine which I thought was odd to have with Indian food but tasted very good too. We ordered the chicken vindaloo and the Tandoori mixed grill along with rice.. The food was good. It wasn't overly spicy although I feel like it has definitely been toned down for an American palate. I actually would like to have seen the chicken vindaloo the spicier. Again the portions are small. I think it's more that they expect you to eat your own dish rather than share them, which is what we did. The tandoori mixed grill was very good . It had some kind of fish, lamb , chicken, and shrimp, which all came out on a sizzling platter. They were too small pieces of each thing. Again I thought it was a small portion for $20. The waiter was very nice and recommended some items for us. We tried to cashew naan which was very sweet and tasty. Nothing like I have ever had something before. The only downside I could really find the food with the size of the meal . Although the waiter was very nice he was slow. When we had ordered our appetizer we did not order a main meal and there was a big bad time in between a finishing the appetizer and him coming and asking what we wanted for our entrees. We also came right before what must have been an event at the local theater, which we did not know about. It made the restaurant very very busy. Delicious Indian food! It's warm and comforting. My husband stated to me," hunny, you never eat that much". Hehe I ordered the lamb shank special and it was perfect fall off the bone! The sauce perfect. We also got aloo naan, chicken curry and lamb Byrani. We did ask for the byrani to be medium but it tasted mild. There was a lag of time between sitting down, drinks, and taking our order. Which is why i have four stars. But i was really pleased. Prices were decent for Indian food as well! Customer service: Excellent. Attentive and the waiter always serve us with a smile. We have been fortunate to meet Raj. We informed him what type of food we like, and he would recommend the dish. The food here is really good. I got the Tava paneer appetizer which was tangy and delicious. The Chicken korma was also a delight and the Chicken chili masala had a serious kick to it (which I love). We also tried the Meat Samosas which were nice, and we also had the Garlic naan. They gifted us a dessert in the order that I haven't tried yet, but it looks like a creamy rice pudding. The portions are also generous, some Indian restaurants have portions on the smaller side because it is costly to cook food with all those spices and flavors but we have a ton of food leftover and will be able to enjoy at least another meal of it tomorrow! We ordered the following: Appetizer: - veggie mixed platter : bad - did not serve the usual chutneys that come with platters. - Mulligatawny soup : horrible - no flavor. No salt. Too much. Turmeric Main course: - shahi paneer koorma: average - veggie curry : bad - it had too much black pepper and no other flavor Overall there was no flavor in their food. And let me tell you, he was right! We started with the chili paneer and then shared a shrimp dish and some other veggie choices. Everything had just the right amount of spice and was delicious and the naan was more than needed to scoop up every bit of leftover sauce from each dish. I went for lunch with couple of friends. I got a $1 lunch groupon Now deal for $10. All 3 got coupons which covered for the total of $30, but the waiter/owner came back to us that they are accepting a max. of 2 groupons per table so we owed $10 for the table. I was not very glad but it was OK. As for the food, it was good for lunch. We ordered 'Ch Tikka masala', ' Lamb Rogan Josh' ( isn't this supposed to be gosh and not josh) & one vegetarian ( I never remember the vegetarian dishes). 1. Ch Tikka was hot, med spicy and good. Boneless pieces of Ch breast from Tandoor, well cooked. 2. Lamb R.J was boneless pieces of lamb in a tasty gravy. I was not too excited about lamb pieces but the gravy was good. 3. Vegetarian - didn't care to try so donn remember the name. All the aboves dishes came with fresh Naan (with butter) which was yummy.Jeera rice for table was flavourful but a little too dry for my taste. The atmosphere here is perfect, hidden right under your nose in Stoneham Center is a smaller, dimly lit restaurant known as Rang. Rang Indian Bistro has it all - from the mouth-watering flavors in their many dishes to their incredibly friendly / helpful waitstaff. When you enter behind the red curtain upon arrival you are immediately greeted with warm smiles and a "Welcome to Rang" no matter how busy it is. My girlfriend and I normally occupy the only 2 bar seats they have (usually people sit here when they order take out) so that we can chat with the employees about the best dishes and also because we just like sitting at the bar wherever we go. Rang's staff separates themselves from 99% of places I've been; you just feel like they're very genuine here. For food we normally go a little off the deep end by getting both Naan and an app (the veggie samosa and cheese pakora are great options) plus our entrees. The Mix Tandoori Grill and the Chicken Tikka Masala are my 2 'Go-To's. The Okra is great if you put it over a bed of rice and ask for the Tikka Masala sauce on top - TRY IT! We will be back many times over and our only regret is not knowing about them sooner :) read more

Hands down best Indian cuisine I've had since traveling to India. The food is authentic and extremely tasty. They are accommodating to different dietary restrictions (vegetarian & gluten-free), providing plenty of great options. I was blown away by the quality of food due to the outside appearance of the restaurant, but don't be fooled this place is gold. Prices are affordable and very reasonable. Dessert options are a wide range for different palettes from ice cream to rice pudding to traditional Indian desserts. The pistachio/almond ice cream was rich in flavor and the perfect amount for two. The entrees were great as well - spice level customizable and rice included. I am so wildly impressed by the level of service we received during our lunch out today with our neighbors. The manager (possibly the owner) has a great sense of humor and delivered exquisite service. I love all the dishes we ordered. I wasn't the designated orderer, but our table got Matar Paneer, chickpea, and tilapia dish. The basket of bread was a bountiful selection. And, I'm glad that our table was hungry enough to polish off every bite. They were very kind to also offer us complimentary pakoras. And, every table also gets a basket of papadum with chutney. Somewhere in between good company, great staff, and delicious and comforting spreads of dishes just creates the exceeding expectations of great cooked meals. We ended with mango ice cream, which was drizzled with mango puree. The ice cream was just silky smooth and delightfully (not overly) sweet and the galub jamun -- just two things that are the reason why to come to Rang alone. A+ friendly and quick service and accessible parking, I just can't find any better reasons to not come back. This is now my local go-to! read more

For starters I've eaten in almost every Indian restaurant in Massachusetts and while I give them 1 star for the lamb being extremely soft that's exactly what they will get from me because everything else sucked. 1)waiter wasn't very happy about the fact that we were not yet ready to order so my girlfriend gave him my order while she still decided. 2) ordered a medium spice lamb rogan Josh that had quite a few negatives. One being that it was uber bland in the spices not medium. Two the sause tasted like watered down spagettios sause. 3) the lamb vindaloo comes out so retarded spicy that you can't eat it without mixing a heavy amount of Roman Josh sause into it to mild it out. I seriously believe that they added raw capsaicin into it to spice it up instead of cloves, cinnamon, allspice, black or green cardamon. Was extremely dissatisfied on dish 1 and 2 now 4) guy brings out 2nd bowl of rice after an extremely long time saying something about not wasting rice. Idk if they were being cheap or just extremely weird people 5) went to wash my hands in the bathroom and their tap water smelled of home heating oil for some reason. Don't think that's too healthy. So in conclusion I urge you not to eat here and those of you who have this high remarks I urge you to explore outside of your normal areas for new Indian restaurants because this is an extremely poor quality place that doesn't deserve to be called that. read more

Our favorite Indian food establishment! Tandoori chicken is amazing, for people like my husband who are a little shy on trying some foreign foods. I'm obsessed with the lamb vindaloo. Our go-to order is tandoori chicken, lamb vindaloo, vegetable samosas, and garlic naan. There's this orange-ish color, creamy sauce that they give us when we order - I have no idea what it is, but I dip the naan and samosas in it, and it is AMAZING. Great dinner at Rang last night. Waiter helped us select a goat dish -- Mutton Khadhi was very flavorful and spiced a bit differently than the dishes we typically order. Love this place. Best Indian restaurant in town. Our waiter (idk his name) is always super friendly and welcoming. I've been there so often over the past 3 months that he remembers me now lol. Their goat and lamb options are extremely tasty, plus it comes with rice. Their veggie pakora, garlic naan and meat samosas are always so tasty. Everything is packed with flavor and tastes even better the next day! If you like stuff extra spicy, add the green chili's haha. The sauces that come with the meals are also so so so good. Only down side is that they don't have a lunch buffet but that's not a bother at all. The food is definitely reasonably priced.
