We visited Rangeen on Thursday, December 29, 2022 at lunchtime. My wife and I, our adult son, and my wife's 92 year old mother. We were met at the door and welcomed immediately. The menu was quite diverse and everything looked really good. Our orders came in a timely fashion, and the owner, Sophia, introduced herself and wanted to make sure everything was fine. The food is amazing!! The owners went out of their way to make a great presentation and tasting cacophony! Best meal I have had in a long time. The beer and wine menu (we did not imbibe at lunchtime!) was excellent and fairly priced. We came for Father's Day and really enjoyed! The food was delicious. We had chicken tikka masala, sag paneer, naan, pineapple tawa rice, gulab jamun, and the dessert sampler. While some things were a little spicier than I could handle (wimp here), my in-laws loved it and we'll definitely come back. I would love it even more if the chickens tikka got to marinade in the masala sauce a bit more. My only critique was they'd out of masala chai that day. This is family owned business; all who are very nice. The decor is simple so it's not a the spot for a romantic date. 5 stars to Rangeen and the team behind it! Rangeen literally means colourful in Hindi, and the menu is exactly that. The flavors feel authentically Indian, but also have a unique twist which feels refreshing to even someone like me who has had Indian food all my life. The preparations feel fresh, not greasy and feel light. Been 5+ years in the US and this is the best Indian food I have ever had. Highly recommend it. Rangeen does not disappoint, the food is phenomenal and is some of the best I've had in 2023. We got our food togo which can sometimes result in so-so food by the time you get home and eat it, but our dinner was absolutely amazing. Rangeen is a hidden gem in a random shopping center. It is not fancy but the restaurant is clean with a full view of the kitchen, the food is great, the owners are very friendly and genuinely excited to share their food with their customers. I have never written reviews before but this restaurant has given me the heroic energy to make an account and rectify this restaurant's yelp score from its absurdly high 4.5. I ordered the Chicken Tikka and it could've not been any blander or dry. The salad was just really awkward to eat with the pomegranate seeds and overall the dish was confusing. As another customer already wrote, it's as if Indian cuisine was removed from its flavor. You could argue that it's supposed to be an unorthodox Californian twist on Indian food but you can't argue that it tastes unseasoned to me. Also, the dessert was a joke. Please save this planet from a waste of ingredients. The dishes looked like the pictures except for the fact that the dish portions are very small. I'm convinced that this is a tasting restaurant with how small their dishes are and this is coming from someone who does not eat that much due to stomach problems. The overpricing of their menu items definitely supports the claim. Don't buy into the overwhelmingly positive reviews. Either they're giving promotions or buying the reviews. Throwing you a bone here: just eat at some other nearby Indian restaurants and buy super fruits at Ralphs on your way back for the same macros. This isn't your typical Indian food! The appetizers are my favorite part , though the whole menu is great. We primarily eat veg and chicken so I can't speak to any seafood or lamb dishes. My favorite things on the menu are the crispy green chat and gohbi manchurian. Both bursting with flavor. I hate to make reviews like this but I honestly don't know why this place is reviewed as highly as it is. I've been here twice because I wanted to give the food a second chance after the relatively poor experience we had the first time but unfortunately my opinion remains unchanged. Both times we ate here, the food wasn't horrible, but I wasn't very good either. I understand it's "California inspired" but it really just tastes like Indian food without all of its flavor. Everything we've had just tastes off. On the bright side, the complimentary papadam was very good. Also, they do have their menu labeled with gluten free options, which is a huge plus for people with celiac like myself. However, the food isn't good enough to justify eating here unless you need to, so it's ultimately a missed opportunity. read more
