Ravello Osteria was a pleasant surprise out of nowhere. I've never been or even heard of it, even though it's been there for a long time. We met for a family dinner - party of 16. We arrived when they opened at 5p and sat in one of their communal tables. It was a hot day and the AC wasn't up to the challenge. With the oven, the crowd and weather, it was rather warm inside. However, I guess it replicated an authentic dining experience in Italy. The restaurant became packed shortly afterwards and the conversations and laughter echoed vibrantly. It felt like we were in Italy. Our server, Alfred, was a pro and a delight. He took care of us without breaking a sweat and always with a smile. We tried many pizzas, salads and pastas. Everything was delish. What really caught my eye was the ribeye steak, which we didn't try. It's a monster ribeye at a very reasonable price. It looked amazing. I have no doubt I will be scarfing down one of those in the near future. I highly recommend a visit if you haven't been. Go hungry and know the portions are generous. read more

The meatballs were flavorful, tender, and a great way to kick off dinner. The pork wings, though, just weren't for me I'd pass on those next time. The arugula salad was fresh and balanced, and we paired everything with a couple of IPAs, which hit the spot. For the mains, the Carbonara was rich, creamy, and exactly what you'd expect from a comforting pasta dish. The standout of the night was the Amatriciana pizza easily my favorite. Crispy crust, great flavor, and one of those pizzas you keep reaching back for. Was craving pizza and found this spot on Yelp. Was able to call and order for pickup and the pizza was almost ready by the time we arrived 15min later. It was a hot summer day and the restaurant interior was definitely pretty warm especially with the pizza oven going. It smelled heavenly in there though. We got the large calabrian pizza which was delicious - only wish we ate it there while it was fresh and piping hot. The pappardelle bolognese was a little disappointing. So I always pass by this spot but hadn't been here in years, at least not since it changed from Bollini's. We parked in the center right next door, and just a heads up, it's cash only. We were seated right away, and the place already had quite a few people dining inside. The experience started a little off for me when ordering. I asked for the spaghetti carbonara with added chicken, and was told no because it already came with bacon. I understood that, but I still wanted to add chicken. I then asked if I could order the penne pasta dish with chicken but substitute a different pasta since I'm not a fan of penne, and again was told no. I've been to plenty of restaurants that don't allow certain substitutions, but simply adding chicken seemed like a reasonable request, especially since I didn't mind paying extra for it. It just felt a little strange being told no to every option. That said, the other staff members were attentive and provided good service throughout the meal. The restaurant itself is casual and had a steady crowd while we were there. I also noticed the entire staff working that night appeared to be male, just an observation. The food itself was really good. The baby greens salad, pasta dish, and chicken portobello were all very flavorful and enjoyable. Overall, I left with mixed feelings because the food was solid, but the ordering experience could have been more accommodating. My sister-in-law and her husband brought our family here for dinner, and everything was amazing! They've been coming here for about two years, and now I understand why. The mashed potatoes were incredibly soft, creamy, and full of flavor. We ordered the Margherita pizza and a cheese pizza for the kids, and both were delicious. The pizzas were cooked in a wood-fired brick oven, and you could really taste the difference. The carbonara was one of my favorite dishes. One of the best local hidden gems in the 626! I've been coming to Ravello osteria for years. ABSOLUTELY love their pizzas. Recently came on a Tuesday night around 6:30 PM, and surprisingly it wasn't as busy. We came to celebrate a birthday. The decor is very vintage, they have a huge brick pizza oven, which is where the magic happens. It appears that their menu has rotates seasonally because the first time I came perhaps a year ago, we had the pork chop. In our recent visit we had the ribeye. Ribeye is AMAZING by the way, highly recommended by our server. Huge shoutout to our server Meena, who really went above and beyond, he was the star of the night. My favorite pizza from Ravello osteria--the Porco pizza. Must have. It's surely something about their dough that leaves an everlasting impression. So much that I've ordered delivery and takeout many times. One thing Meena also recommended was the seabass. However, this was only available on the weekends. Heads up, this place is CASH ONLY! Make sure you have cash! They also close on Mondays. It also can get quite busy during peak hours on the weekends. Last tip--it can get hot in there during the summer. Pork Osso Buco -so tender, fall of the bone! Garlic mash potatoes was so creamy but wasn't mashed fully and you get small chunks of potatoes which I personally prefer. The Asian in me wished we had a side of white rice to pair all the yummy gravy with. Penne Pasta with Organic Chicken -mushroom lover's dream. Sauce was so creamy and tons of mushroom and tender chicken thigh meat. Pasta really absorbed the amazing sauce. Spaghetti with Lobster -great dish and everything ties well together. Was worried it would be super crowded. When I drive by there seems to always be a wait but it was surprisingly roomy inside. They have a few cramped parking spots in the back of the restaurant. I got their mushroom pizza without meat and their mushroom ravioli. The pizza had great dough and thankfully they let us take off the meat. Besides a build your own pizza, there are otherwise no vegetarian options. The mushroom ravioli was my favorite and divine. The umami was in the cheese inside and the sauce on top. Didn't mind the wait as it was a Saturday evening. We waited about 15 min before being sat down at one of their communal tables. I actually enjoyed this because everyone from the staff to other guests were super friendly. We ordered a 16 inch New York Pizza and the Spaghetti Carbonara. Everything cooked to perfection. The pizza was quick and the pasta had a nice chew in the noodle that you can only get from fresh pasta. Our server recommended the spicy yellow sauce condiment to enjoy with our pizza and it was yummy! We did enjoy some of their complimentary pizza bread with pesto, but didn't want to spoil our appetite since we were getting pizza. It was yummy too. Everything tasted fresh and we enjoyed our meal! I think the only thing I would say is that the restaurant could use more AC or ventilation because it can be a little stuffy, but it's not a big deal and wouldn't prevent us from going there again. I forget how great this place is and it's in the heart of SGV. Never disappoints me when it comes to their pastas and pizza. The wood fire oven can be seen as you walk in the venue. Parking wise, I wasn't sure if I was supposed to park in the lot adjacent to the restaurant or where I was supposed to go... Once I parked and went in, the person at the front seems annoyed that I was there to pick up the food and didn't want to get the food. She spoke very few words to me during this process. The service was substandard. We invited guests because the food here has always been amazing. They brought us a small plate of garlic squares for a party of six. When we asked for an additional plate the waitress said it would be an additional cost. If there was a party of two the plate size would be the same size but anyway we moved on. My husband ordered the bass and it was never put in until we questioned it and they realized it was never put iin so we told the waitress to forget about it since everyone was done with their dinner. The waitress NEVER came back to even refill our water. The kicker was when we got our check we were charged a forced 18 percent tip because we were a party of six. I came here for a staff luncheon. There were 10 of us. We parked on the street because we got there before they opened and we found parking right in front. CASH ONLY! There is an $8 split charge for all dishes. In our case today, we shared all the items that were brought out from the kitchen. They did not charge us the split charge. They did add gratuity for our party of 10. The bread that they give you when you get seated is AMAZING! 10/10! They have Coke products for soft drinks. Their restroom is gender neutral and big enough for a wheel chair to go through. My director ordered an appetizer, 2 salads, 3 pizzas, and 2 pastas. Caesar Salad: I personally did not enjoy the fishy part of the anchovies. It definitely was a different take of this salad. I did not like. It was also very sour. One of my directors said it was more on the authentic side of the classic caesar and it was really good! Arugula Salad: this is my least favorite type of leaf. Clam pie pizza was one I didn't try because I'm not a clam person. However, my coworker says it was good. A little salty but good flavor. Another person said they couldn't taste the clam. Bolognese Pappardelle was an extremely long noodle dish that was very aromatic. The flavor was definitely heavy on the pork and veal side than the beef. New York pizza is your typical meat pizza. Parking is limited and getting out of the lot is hard when it's peak hours so beware. It wa pretty busy on a Friday night, but we were able to pick up our order within 20min of ordering. We didn't realize it was cash only, but the cashier warned us ahead of time. The pizza itself was alright. Wood fired with a nice thin crispy crust. Flavors we got a meat with red sauce and a combo type with white sauce. The flavors weren't entirely there for us. It tasted pretty light, which made it a good snack. Overall, food was pretty mid. Zero Service, Zero Hospitality -- Don't Believe the 4 Stars I have no idea how Ravello Osteria is sitting at a 4-star rating. My experience was nothing short of disappointing. We walked in at 12:30pm to a completely empty restaurant. Not a great sign. But worse than that was the total lack of customer service. No welcome, no engagement, no interest. Just indifference. We asked for a simple food modification--take one topping off our pizza and swap it for another. The answer? A flat no, unless we paid extra. No "let me check," no flexibility, just a hard line. They were willing to remove an item, but not replace it without charging more. That's not accommodating, that's nickel-and-diming. They brought out a complimentary pizza dough with pesto--probably meant as a gesture--but it backfired. It was chewy, cold, and stale. Completely unappetizing. Meanwhile, the manager (at least I assume that's who it was) sat in plain sight, eating his salad with a blank expression, completely disengaged. Didn't look up, didn't smile, didn't seem to care there were customers in his restaurant. And the music? Blasting loud rock and roll. At an Italian osteria. At lunch. It made no sense. Why not something classic, something Italian, and at a volume that doesn't feel like you're in a bar? I got a headache with stomachache!! No atmosphere. No service. No effort.
