Having been here few times and bern disappointed, when it is bustling and hard to get table, we were immensely relieved to find a table and quiet atmosphere for once at this joint of a place. May not look overly tidy nor fancy, but the staff do a great job on overshadowing the ambiance. This time we went for Poori, halwa, channa and accompanied by paki chai. So here is the thing. Throughout DMV, it is hard to find all the above that has the perfect flavor, not to crispy, nor too soft poori. Or channa too spicy, not well cooked or not flavorful. Or the tea just lacks that sting to the taste. After tried many poori halwa serving places Tosso, Niralla Sweets, Cha lounge, Shineys and one Bombay at Tyson's) I can say with certainty, that Ravi Kaboob has the best combo. They even had cashew in the halwa in addition to other dry fruits and the halwa wasn't all about sugar and semolina, but had the good blend so it accompanied well to the chai. Bottom line, if you can see away from the ambiance and just want to have the best poori halwa channa weekend breakfast, this is def place to go! But be sure to call upfront, because even though they are supposed to have it from 1100-4.00 in the weekend, they simply run out way before that time. My friend and I decided to try out Pakistani food because we were craving kabobs so we yelped it and found Ravi because it was closest to us! We were a little confused as there are 2 Ravis on the same street literally right across from each other. So we decided to go to Ravi II as there were more parking spots and no one was in the restaurant. My friend and I had received a recommendation to order Chicken Karahi and another dish but the Chicken Karahi was served for 2 people so we ordered that. The place looks like a hole in the wall and small but these places always have the best food because it's homecooked! The person working the register (which I think is also the owner) was very helpful to us and also helped us pick which item to choose. We ended up with boneless chicken karahi. We also ordered one side of rice which was enough for 2 people and the item came with naan, chutney, and salad. Our food came in this huge wok and it looked extremely appetizing and smelled so good. We took some pictures for instagram and yelp and we were ready to dig in! The meal was flavorful and exceeded my expectations. Usually, it is so difficult to eat food you are not familiar with and I had no idea how to eat everything together! It was such a great experience to eat dishes from another culture and to be able to share that moment with another friend who is slightly familiar but not an expert. The owner/worker kept checking on us how we were doing and the next thing you know, the restaurant was flooded with people eating in and taking out! I'd say we brought the business that day haha! The owner gave us menus for the future and had asked us how we felt about the food - of course we told him it was delicious! We used to go to Ravi Ia couple of years ago and it used to be much more better. We came to Ravi II today but it was really lousy, cleanliness at the lowest standards that I have ever seen at any place in the are especially that we are taking post Corona life. Called in an order for pickup last last night and ordered the special samosas and the ravi kabob special. This location is right across the original ravi kabob house but less crowded. We picked up the food and when we got back home they called to tell us they forgot our samosas and would throw in a free one for the trouble of us driving back. They were very apologetic but the food was just mediocre to me. The rice was plain and dry and the chicken was not as moist as Im use too but the flavor was good. I liked the other meat kabob that came with the special because it was packed with spices. The star of the dinner was the samosas because it was layers and layers of goodness. If you dont like spicy you might not enjoy as much but its a must try. read more

My favorite kabob place! I'll make this short, their kabobs are tasty, they're not the bland kind like a lot of other kabob places around here. They are pakistani-style kabobs that put a lot of flavoring and spices into their kabobs. Like everyone else says, the chickpeas here are delicious, hearty, and make you smile after you eat them because they are that good. You get a lot of food for what you get here, in fact, if you get a Ravi Special (one piece of Kubideh and 5 pieces of boneless chicken breasts), it should fill you up if you share this with one other person. One kabob for myself is usually too much. One thing I've heard is the Ravi Kabob House I is better than this one (the one across the street, the "II"). I don't know this, I still think they taste the same but I've never eaten them side by side, and never saw a reason to since they are essentially the same thing, just different building. If anyone can confirm whether they are the same or if the original one across the street is really better, then let me know! This review is largely for their weekend brunch menu when they do halwa/puri/channa and nihari. I've eaten there once and done takeout a second time on a weekend and I cant say enough good things about their food - truly authentic Pakistani food. When you try Ravi Kabob, you need to go in with an open mind and realize that authentic Pakistani food involves a good amount of oil - don't fear though, because a lot of it can be removed by tipping over your nihari or whichever dish into another empty container. The halwa/puri is to die for and probably the best I've had in the DMV area. The nihari is almosttt as good as my mom's and being away from home I truly appreciate how it is just right on the spice level and has the same traditional flavor to it. The halwa (semolina) is just sweet enough and not overbearing. Their chai has always been on point as well. The restaurant itself is pretty casual, clean, and comfortable. Ravi's Kabob House 2 is my favorite Pakistani restaurant. As a South Asian food-aholic, I recommend this place--worth the drive to Ballston (unless, of course, you are nearby) to savor our area's finest chicken kabobs and under-rated curries. I now only go to RKH2 because it has more consistent execution of food (Chef Walter is a great talent), nicer ambiance (lots of sunlight, marble-top tables), friendly service (vs. the brusque RKH1), and easier parking. In terms of food, the kabobs are impeccably-spiced. Though we tried most of the meats, my dining companion and I find myself having a hard time ordering anything but the bone-in and boneless chicken kabob. The wonderfully charred outside, juicy inside, and excellent spicing make RKH2's skewered name-sake head-and-shoulders above nearly all except at London's Rasoi Vineet Bhatia. We order both versions of the chicken because they have different spicings that complement one another. Usually, in our experience, one tends to be good and the other excellent. Kabobs come with bread and a choice of small curry side item. We get one vegetable-of-the-day curry and one chickpeas curry. The latter is creamy and hearty, justifiably getting all of the press from places like Washington Post. A very under-rated part of RKH2 is the vegetable-of-the-day curry (i.e. squash; potatoes+cabbage; or cauliflower+potatoes), which is another strength of RKH2. Chef Walter knows how to bring out the natural sweetness inherent in the vegetables and gently enhances them with spices like clove. Vegetarians would not think to come to a kabob house, but RKH2 has a few that warrant a visit. Of course, what kabob meal would be without the naan--an excellently crisp and hot along with a spicy and refreshing yogurt sauce. The Chicken Karahi is a nice tomato-and-tomato-based wok-seared curry. Its popularity is evident in its steep price increase relative to other menu items. The meat is cooked to a tender texture, the ginger adding a pleasant wet-spiced flavor, and the vegetables complete the dish into a balanced meal. The only downside with it is that one order (serves two people) comes with only bread (though we have requested rice instead). We tend to order Chicken Karahi when we come with more friends because it is really hard to pry ourselves away from the fabulous chicken kabobs, which not only tastes just as good, it also is a super value coming with vegetable curry, rice, and naan. Ravi's Kabob House 2 serves top-notch chicken kabobs and curries in a bright, clean location (unlike a dive setting of RKH1) with generous portions of expertly-spiced food. Once you order, ask for the naan first, that way, you can enjoy it steaming hot and in its peak freshness. It does take a little while for the kabob to be prepared, but you don't rush excellence. When you are eating something that is burning the crap out of your lips and you just can't seem to put it down - you know you've got something good in front of you. That is the special samosa at Ravi Kabob. Take a samosa. Chunk it up in a bowl and top it with chick peas, tomatoes, cilantro, onions and a yogurt sauce. UNBELIEVABLE! It was incredibly spicy at times, but I quickly learned to just eat it without letting it touch my lips and was good to go. Its a pretty good portion and I could easily make a meal of just it and a piece of naan. Last night at dinner with Aine and Ben however I'd also ordered a chicken tikka kabob and most of the juicy bone-in chicken, chick peas, salad, naan and rice went untouched and got boxed up to go. No worries though. It was just as good as leftovers today when I emerged from my food coma. I love Ravi! While my favorite kabob house is in Alexandria, Ravi is great. I've ordered take-out from this location (same plaza as CVS; cash only). The owner (who I've not seen across the street) is always super friendly. As much as I want to try the chicken karahi, so far, I've always gone for the lamb kabob. It is tender and well-seasoned every time. The rich chickpeas and warm naan add to this satisfying meal, though I've had better rice and salad. Very tasty . Fair prices . Clean. To a degree. I had a chicken and lamb kobab. Both were very tasty , well cooked.

The kabobs are good, but the karahis (curries) are the way to go. They generally serve two, but if you are really hungry you could probably polish it off on your own. These are not Indian curries, they are distinctly Pakistani. There is no coconut milk, and they are tomato based, so they almost resemble a spicy, curried spaghetti sauce. The level of heat is adjustable; I've found the medium to be reasonably spicy, but I haven't been bold enough to try it spicy, so I have no idea if they would torch your mouth or not. Speaking of which; be careful with the karahi sauce, it retains heat (temperature) really well, and will burn the bejesus out of your tongue if you're not careful. I liked the chicken karahi, but a co-worker suggested the kabob karahi, as being both really good, and unique to Ravi Kabob, and he was spot on. The kabob karahi is made by cooking a kubideh kabab, then tossing the cooked meat into the wok with the spicy karahi sauce. The end result is a nice combination of tender and flavorful kubideh meat with the awesome karahi sauce. The only downsides to this place are that it is cash only (which I always manage to forget; last time I felt bad because I payed the last couple bucks of my bill using loose change from my car's console), and the fact that parking can be a bit tough to find. read more

Five stars doesn't begin to describe this place (which is located directly across the street from its twin, Ravi 1). Go on a Sat or Sun and treat yourself to haleen (with dark meat chicken). Add a "special samosa," and it will likely be the best meal--and best value--you can find in DMV. The latter is a regular veggie samosa that's been dunked in a salad and covered in tangy dressing and jalapeños...and for some reason, that all works incredibly well. Meals come with bread and a side, usually chickpeas or a spinach and potato dish. Both are excellent, and you may just want to get both. Top things off with a mango lassi, but give them 5-10 minutes to make it...the kitchen staff is hard-pressed to keep the grill going, and a mango multitask is difficult to pull off. I've been to the other location a bunch of times but this was my first time at the second location. I got the chicken kabobs with rice, chickpeas, naan, and a veggie samosa. Food was good, but i didn't find it as good as the other place. The chickpeas were disappointing but the dry samosa that had been sitting under a heat lamp all day was worse. Probably the worst samosa I've had anywhere. That said, I really enjoyed my chicken kabob. So where does this leave me? I'm a big fan of Ravi Kabob. I've ordered food for our my entire office from there before. This location isn't terrible, but it isn't special either. So where do I start, I'll put my thoughts in points: 1. BAAAAD customer service 2. Unhygienic practices 3. Painfully slow orders! 4. Freakishly overpriced! 5. No cards allowed only cash (tax issues? Hmm) So I stopped there a few days ago when I had my child crying in the back seat because he was hungry and couldn't wait to get home for dinner, we ordered lamb kabobs with a cup of tea, paid $17 for that, we took the order number then sat there waiting, and waiting, and waiting! My child was fidgeting and went to the bar pointing at the rice asking for some (he's only 3) workers were going in chaos and no one paid attention to him, I asked an employee if he could put a little bit of rice for him until order is ready, answer? I was ignored, ok I get my child back and he kept running back to where the rice was sticking his little fingers under the glass trying to reach rice, I was getting upset because by that time 20 minutes have passed since I placed my order, I asked an employee again when will my order be ready and he goes in (silly me going he's gonna go ask the kitchen but no he ignored me and went to do other things), I try to get my son back to the table but now he runs to the soda fridge and grabs anything he can, I take the soda back then he insists and I was super upset by then because instead of waiting with a hungry child I should've been sitting there eating, it was almost half hour then since I placed my order, for god sake it was only one plate order! Are they slaughtering the lamb now? At that point I carried my child and went to the cashier told them if my order isn't ready now I'd like to get my money back and leave, which another guy told me that I have to wait, I told him it doesn't make any sense to wait 30 minutes for a simple order and that other people came after me and got their orders already, I told him I'm giving them only 2 minutes more then I'm leaving, now miraculously my order was ready which to my surprise consisted of a plate of 25% bland old rice and 25% lettuce and a few pieces of meat, alongside chickpeas chutney and flat bread (the last two are sides that come with all order) it was a bummer to think I paid $17 and 30 minutes of my life for that! While at another place (that was afghani) I have very generous amount of meat, yummy colored rice, hot large flat bread, alongside house made condiments with a drink and soup (with free refills!) for the same price and at a beautiful place with relaxing music, not run down place with no music other than bunch of guys running around in chaos and yelling, the worst restaurant experience I ever had in my life, I hate to think that they made me wait and ignored me because I was a woman, but I know lots of macho cultures make women eat after men, so food is served to men first while women wait well until men are full (I'm middle eastern so I know what I'm talking about), of course I was expecting them to be professional but obviously the fact that I paid full price like any male patron should've given me the right to the same service means nothing to them. Oh and hygiene! I saw some employees picking their teeth with no gloves in then handling food! And no one was wearing gloves! I have eaten at Ravi2 on many occasions over the past 6 years. I usually get the boneless chicken kabob however, on my last visit I was feeling a bit adventurous. I ordered the Seekh kabob for change of pace. The meat was overcooked and had bits of gristle throughout. I had a hard time eating it but managed to finish the whole thing. That evening I began to have stomach cramps. The next night I was out at a bar when my Ravi adventure continued. I began having stomach cramps again and then sharted my knickers. When I got home I shat so much liquid feces that I damn near filled the toilet. I do not recommend the seekh kabob unless you need to lose a few pounds real fast. The weekday specials and the weekend specials are pretty different in the fact that the curry on the weekends are sooo much better. I live down the street from this place and I thankfully only eat here occasionally because I would be a huge behemoth if I ate here on the regular. The kabobs are fantastic but the curries and the chaana is what is awesome...this place is 2x better that Kabob palace. I would also get the karahi is you are with 3 people it is worth the wait and delicious. I agree with a previous reviewer that the lamb kabob was too gristly. Their chicken boneless kabob is excellent - the meat is juicy and tender, and not overcooked. The rice with chickpeas on top is my favorite part of a meal. The owner or manager is very nice. I've been here probably 50 times for takeout over 6-7 years. I have eaten in the restaurant a couple of times, but as folks will tell you, it's like eating in a 1950's formica floor kitchen with harsh overhead lighting. In other words, not that lovely. I've never really noted cleanliness issues, probably because it seems like the kind of place that regulars pop in for visits and hang out, and I've just thought of it as being a more casual place. Did I mention that I do takeout? Anyway, I've found the food to be excellent and consistently good across all our visits, which is really saying something. I only ever get the boneless chicken kabobs, but they are always excellently spiced and moist. The combination of the amazing chick peas (probably too spicy for younger kids, with jalapenos floating in the mix, but fine once you get used to it), bread and "salad" (a mixture of onions, lettuce, tomato and cilantro with no dressing) is a combination taste that my mouth cannot do without. Are they the most welcoming hosts in the world? Not necessarily, but I'm generally greeted with a smile and we get our business done and it all works out fine. Is it irritating that they only take cash? Sure, but then I bring cash. I've picked up food from the one across the road a couple of times (this location is closed on Mondays, I believe, while the one across the street is open on Mondays) and I don't think I could tell the difference in taste/quality/etc. I prefer this location because it's easy to park in the CVS lot.
