The fiasco…read morestarted with Robert Steffen many months ago when I took my classic auto in for a transmission leak. He kept it a while & then sent it back to me. The transmission still leaked, but it was a smaller leak. I had to take the car back again and it was now winter. I was assure that the car would be kept inside, in dry storage. Robert proceeded to take nearly 3 months to finish up- in the meantime, I was asking him what was going on and if my car was OK. He assured me it was just fine. And another bill for $1288.00 . When I picked the car up it was FAR FROM FINE - completely wet on the inside with mold and mildew growth, the headliner falling out, and panels ruined. Robert is unapologetic and obviously doesn't care that he ruined the interior of my nice classic vehicle. One of his first responses was " I guess I can't take nice cars here anymore!" I tried to file an insurance claim but my insurance doesn't cover that type of damage . It would be easy for Robert to step up and do the right thing; but obviously he doesn't care about the people that pay his wages. In addition, there were chips in my driver side door. Just to repair the basics, not the whole scope of damage his negligence caused is over $3000.00. I would be very careful and dealing with the shop and this man because he has zero integrity as a human being .

Luckily, we were near Lacey, WA, and had to decide whether to spend the night in the van and limp to a local mechanic or have it towed home to our trusted mobile mechanic. Andrew arrived around 11:30 p.m. and was professional and courteous from the start. What could have been a stressful late-night tow turned into a much more pleasant experience, and he and my husband chatted the whole way, making the long trip feel much shorter. The labor rates are reasonable and they take the time to explain, and show you the issue. They're HONEST, and are not going to sell you a bunch of extra services you don't need, and they actually care about the work they do. I can tell you these things with the utmost confidence. I'm not a mechanic by any means, but I am mechanically inclined and can do some repairs myself. The hours of labor they quoted for the the repair were done by the actual amount of time it took them to do the job. In February 2026 and again April 2026, I took my car into Ben's-which has never been worked on by anyone but techs from this shop-and was overwhelmingly impressed by the new owner/management Eric. He not only displayed his commitment to previously stated virtues that many have come to associate with Ben's auto repair's reputation; he is far above reproach in caring about his customers.
