This is actually my 2nd time going to Ray's. They are my go to place in Sacramento for fried fish. They also sell fried chicken however, I always go for the fish. They have many different varieties of fish to choose from. Today I ordered the 2 piece basa fish plate. I also had the spicy tartar sauce which is so good! Wow just wow. I got my food order from Door Dash and without knowing it until the order was sent out. I was informed they were out of Collard greens. That was the whole point of my order. Don't have it on the menu if you don't have any. Brushed it off cool no problem we got chicken, fries, and fried tomatoes okay cool. Nope. I HAVE NEVER HAD FOOD THAT WAS SO UNSEASONED IN MY LIFE. Even the collard greens (hard to screw up) are so overly salted they're inedible ... like they used Virginia country ham and didn't bother to soak all that salt out. I love a good fish fry when I find one! Fish fry's are hard to come by and I'm really glad an establishment opened close to me that I can actually enjoy. I think I've been to the Ray's in Stockton too and I remember it was crispy so had to give this location a try. The staff recommended the mushrooms and I was pleasantly surprised! The chicken was perfect. I would have preferred the fish to be a bit more crisped but it was still tasty! I felt like the portion sizes were good for the prices. I've being going to ray's for over 5 years now and has never had such bad customer service, not to mention her horrible behavior/nasty attitude has been this way since her employment at the Bruceville location. She donot care how she talks to you. She is confrontational with customers and stated "donot call me by my name u don't know me" slaps your food down on the counter and walks away. She never says thank you, and don't ask for any condiments she gets mad at you. One time she said I have other customers. I've been a customer of Rays for about 7-8 years. I frequented the Stockton location(the original location). Rays in Stockton will always be top tier. I believe this is his daughter that runs the shop on Mack rd. Food is always consistently good. I love their fried fish. It's always a hit. I used to get the crab in Stockton and it was sooo good but it's not as good at this location. Maybe that was an off day. Kool aid is always good. And Rays daughter working the counter is literally the sweetest! I look forward to seeing her each time. She's so patient and kind. The French fries are fresh and rightfully crispy. Fried Catfish is always cooked to perfection. Their house ranch and tartar sauce are delicious (stay away of you're lactose intolerant ). Finally decided to give this place a try after seeing their posts for years on Instagram when they were initially only open in Stockton. Got their three way combo with red snapper, oysters and chicken thighs with extra fries instead of fries and potato salad. Never had red snapper or oysters before but heard they were popular menu items there so I got them. Everything was delicious and fresh. Their many sauces were also flavorful. A buddy of mine got their 5/5 with chicken legs and wings along with a fried corn on the cob. While I enjoyed my meal, I think I might just get chicken next time because it looked like I didn't get as much food but I understand that seafood in general isn't as cheap as chicken. Wasn't a fan of oysters being an additional $2 extra charge but not a huge deal. The only other minor complaint I had was the lack of air conditioning in this place especially today when it was over 110. I'm still a fan and will definitely be back but I might just stick with their chicken (or try their garlic seafood tray if I'm in the mood to spend more money than usual) and place my orders to-go so I can enjoy my food at home and not sweat like I did in here. read more

The restaurant is only about 11 mins from my house (don't judge me for not picking it up myself) so the food was still warm and crispy when it arrived. Each item was sealed with tamper-proof tape, I guess to ensure the delivery person doesn't snack on your food. I support this process and appreciate the extra step to seal it up. I ordered the cat fish fillet combo and zucchini fries. Both were seasoned deliciously and had the perfect crunch on the outside. I was very happy with the portion sizes, especially since I ordered the small. It came with three large fillets with a good amount of fries.
