Yes they were thighs but not bone in, rather boneless skinless thighs. Neither the menu on the wall or the girl taking my ordered informed me of this! The fish had an interesting flavor, and could have been cooked a little bit longer. The chicken tasted odd.. don't recommend. Guy was eyeballing my lady. Worst service I've ever had, guy was extremely rude and clearly hates his job. Still decided to give the food a chance, but it took nearly 45 minutes for some calamari, shrimp, and 2 sides. Third time I got food here. I got catfish every time, and every time it was moist, flavorful, and still hot by the time I got back to work to eat it. Unfortunately this time, when I unpacked my bag, I found my side of coleslaw missing, bummer. My fault for not checking before I left. I'm always down for good food, and trying new places in and around Sacramento. My Yelp family kept singing Ray's praises, and told me that I wouldn't be disappointed. Gold stars galore for encouraging me to go. Two words... damn delicious ! We ordered the fried chicken, several crab cakes, and fries. They offer family sized options, and all I can say is do it. Huge containers of tasty food. The chicken was crispy, seasoned nicely, and the cold leftovers were even delicious. This is how you know it's good food. The fries were plentiful and just yum. I was looking forward to the crab cakes, and was incredibly disappointed that they'd been left out of the order. Yep, I had been billed for four crab cakes. I called and spoke to the guy that answered the phone. I was told to stop by to get them. After explaining that I don't live in or near the area, he said just stop by anytime and just let them know. I stopped by a week later, and was told that they had no idea who told me that. It was a pricey lesson, and I would encourage you to check your order before you leave. Desserts... all the possibilities that you could imagine. Red velvet, lemon, chocolate, strawberry cakes...and much more. I love that they have prepackaged desserts, so no more arguments over which dessert to get. This way, everyone can have what they want. If you ever dined at Post Oak, Ray's is in their old location. Today, I've discovered a new face to Ray's, it's there sauteed chrimp! Absolutely delicious and very tasty. You can actually differentiate the different flavors or garlicky sauce and chrimps. Drove by this place and it caught my eye so I circled back and made my way in. Nice little spot with a few tables and fridge for desserts and drinks to the side. You'd feel comfortable eating inside with warm lighting and TV to watch too, but I ate it in my car. Menu has a nice selection from chicken wings, fried chicken, fried seafood, many sides, etc. Always wanted to try po' boy so I ordered that and a side of collard greens. Food was good but there were some issues with my two items. First the Po' boy wasn't on a roll so it was difficult to eat with the shrimp falling out. Might be okay with the other protein options but a roll would hold all the shrimp together. The shrimps were nicely seasoned and had a nice crunch. Glad to see the amount of shrimp they gave! It had lettuce, tomatoes, special sauce (tastes like thousand island dressing lol) and mayonnaise on wheat bread (at least toast it to hold up better). Way too much sauce to my liking as it's too tangy. The collard greens were just right in flavor, had chunks of meat in there. It wasn't too smokey, complimented the greens. Greens are chopped too small though. The problem was tiny bits of it were ice cold while other parts were hot. Maybe it was leftover from the day before and they freezed it. Took a look at the desserts as I waited for the food. Funny it says "Ray's Amazing Dessert" while they only had their own banana pudding and the rest were outsourced from another company, Marita's Sweet Potato Co. in San Lorenzo. I would make sure there are no mold in the cakes and pies as there are no preservatives to keep them stored longer. Even in refrigeration they can grow mold. They are not dated when they were made so who knows how long they've been there at $5-$6 a piece. I might come back and try their wings. read more

Had an opportunity to stop by this place yesterday ( 7/24/24 ) and had the pleasure to speak with Mo. He provide excielent service and was able to to speak to the menu with depth and precision. The food took around 10 minutes to come out and the wings were pipping hot! The flavor was a dry rub and was very flavorful. I choose coleslaw and Potato salad for my sides and throughly enjoyed both. This is a place that I will frequent if they are able to provide the quality of service and product moving forward. The 3 piece combo was generous. The red snapper fillet portion was big. A tad on the salty side on the fried shrimps. If you can take down a notch... that would be perfect. Just stopped in on the way home, been wanting to try it for a while. I got the 3/3 combo tenders and thighs, and okra side. Took about 10-15 minutes which tells me they are cooking it fresh so no big deal. People on here complaining it took too long, go to Popeyes. I took it to go and ate at home, way down Fulton in Sierra Oaks and it was still very hot. The first bite of the chicken thigh and its delicious crispy skin took me right back to sitting at my grandmas house eating Sunday dinner as a kid. Okra too was great, lightly fried and not greasy. I was glad to see a couple containers of hot sauce in the bag. I'm a Tabasco guy but you don't put tobacco on chicken. Portions were good! I'm a big dude and I barely got through the thighs and okra. I read they were a Bay area biz expanding here with a new location on Fulton Ave. Well, I had to check them out as a big foodie would! True dat. So told the fam and they know I Yelp and have Yelp get-togetheezys with pals so I had their ears. Parked in back. Barely a spot left. Crazy busy. They stayed in the car and made good 'ole slave dad make the order and carry it all, of course. They just checked the menu, told me their orders and back to the car they went. I waited about 15 minutes in line to order. Maybe 15-30 minutes to receive order. When talking to the cashier I tripped out when she answered my ? About order sizes. She said Small is 4 pieces and large was 6. Granted prices seemed high at $15.99 for a large, the value was spot on so all good. I think A small is $11.99. Several kinds of fish, fried chix with or w/o waffles, sides, cake slices, gumbo, jamba, crab, lob and a big azz menu to peep out! Some red soda too. Cannot wait to try more stuff out! Word. So we got Alaskan cod large (me). Came with slice of wheat bread, fries and I chose potato salad. They shared a Tilapia large with fries and mac salad. I also added a large garlic noodles. Took it home to eat. Well, should have checked it before leaving because we both got coleslaw instead of our choices of sides. That's the only knock on them. Screwup on an easy order. They were super busy but these are just the sides they got wrong. Gotta do better. Be accurate. Check bags against order tag. Not that hard. The fish was yummers. The tilapia were bigger pieces than the cod. My cod was not moist enough but a bit chewier. They loved their tilapia. The garlic noodles were overly oily and a bit overcooked. Today was my first time going to the Fulton Ave location. I typically go to the Valley Hi location but recently moved so I was happy to see this location was closer to me. Unfortunately, I was disappointed with the service which is surprising because I always receive excellent service from the different ladies at the VH location. It seemed like they were short handed today which is not the employees fault at all. I ordered 2 of the pick 3 meals, 2 additional sides, desserts, and a couple of drinks. It took almost an hour for me to get my order where as it's normally 20-30 min. There was one person cooking in the back and one person taking and bagging orders. A family that ordered after me received their food about 15 min before I did which I understood happens with a large order. I mention them because they were missing food and when I did eventually get my order, so was I. Sadly I didn't check my order until I was home 25 min away and unable to go back to the restaurant. The food tasted great as usual but I doubt I will go back to this location or the VH location due to distance which is unfortunate. I would suggest having 3 employees on a busy Sunday to help prevent missing food on orders (my tab was $65 plus $10 tip for a to go order) and also shorten the wait as there was a full house of customers in the restaurant over the hour I was there. The employees working were doing the best they could with the support they had but missing food items for multiple customers is unacceptable which is why I am giving 2 stars. read more

I'm from Alabama and have been in California since 2017. I have not been impressed with any of the food anywhere, until I went to Rays. Everything was delicious! Now I want to move to Sacramento just because I finally found good food. It's been a hard journey, but I finally found very flavorful food like they cook in the south.
