We got the bbq tri tip and ribs that came with two sides; we got Mac & cheese & elote. The meats were so tender and juicy & the meat was falling off the bone on the ribs. The sides were yummy! The place was clean and neat. Parking is limited as its only street parking however there was plenty of parking on the street. Pricing is affordable & reasonable. I have driven past this little hole in the wall for several years now and always wanted to stop. I finally did. I was not disappointed. It was the best potato salad I've ever eaten in a restaurant. A unique little place in uptown Sacramento. I work with Foster youth and they have chosen this restaurant for our holiday luncheon two years in a row now. They do give you big portions for the meat but they need to rethink their recipe and the way they cook the pulled pork. Meat wasn't tender. The bbq sauce was ordinary. Wow!!! The food here is incredible. The BBQ spot here in Antelope closed down a few months ago and since then I've struggled to find decent bbq. I've tried a few different places but they were far and not good enough to justify the drive. I was craving tri tip so I googled to see if there was anywhere else I could try and I found the IG account for uptown. After seeing the pictures I immediately knew I had to come. I got a 3 meat plate with ribs, tri tip and Chicken and Mac and baked beans for the sides. All 3 meats were sooo tender. The meat slid right off the rib bone, it was softer than butter that sat out overnight. The tri tip was tender and delicious. The chicken couldn't be any more tender. The sauce is also good. So, went here late on a Tuesday night for some not-at-all fancy take-out BBQ. The family who runs Uptown were a joy to talk to. We compared notes on rib smoking techniques, food prices, what sells best, why nobody does beef ribs anymore, etc. The food was pretty good, although they season to the lowest common denominator, like most places these days. I prefer a good seasoning rather than relying solely on barbecue sauce to do the job. Anyway, the pork spare ribs were hot and pleasantly tender, not lukewarm and tough. I really appreciated elote as a side option, also. The sauce was also warm and a good balance of tangy, spicy and sweet. And even though I'm no skater, I enjoyed the vibe: colorful but laid back and welcoming. Note that there's just a small bar with individual seating, so don't plan a family outing but a good take-out experience at a reasonable price. Good job guys! read more

They advertise five dollar double burgers and we had to just check it out. It's in a weird position on the corner and quite frankly I wasn't even sure if it was a restaurant. I believe they're a skateboard skater type place that is also a restaurant. Either way we got the burger. It was tasty. The guy behind the counter was cool. I have seen this place change hands a few times now. However, my daughter found out that Nascar was doing a pop-up in Sac, so I bought tix and realized that it was being held here. As the show continued, I decided to order food to take home. BBQ 2 meats, 2 sides was calling my name. I settled on rib tips, hot link, mac & cheese, and garlic toast. They were out of greens. My plate was full, tasted a little of everything, and... The hot link was hot and good, rib tips were yummy, mac and cheese was gooey good, bread was great! I came on a Saturday evening by my lonesome passing by after stopping at Arden Fair Mall to visit a buddy that works in Macy's. You had blacks, latinos, asians and whites all hanging/watching and coming together over a weekend event. Cool sight to behold these days! They have events all the time and hook up with neighborhood. We drive by this place almost every day and finally made it a point to stop in for dinner a couple of weeks ago! If you blink, you might miss them unless you're lucky and drive by at the time of day when the sign holder is outside. He does a great job! I loved all of the artwork and paintings inside and outside the place. They have a huge smoker in the back and an area where they have entertainment on some nights. We ordered a Tri Tip Sandwich, Chicken Tacos and Cheese Quesadilla. The tri tip was tender and I absolutely loved the tacos - they had a great smoky flavor. We scheduled catering for a very important event at the company I work for, and we gave a $300.00 deposit for the food. We scheduled it well in advance, allowing them time to be able to prepare enough food to feed 40 people. We asked them to please have it ready at 11:30 am. When I arrived, the doors were closed, and there was a chained Iron Gate in front of the door. I called them 3 times and no one answered, finally I reached through the gate and knocked on the window and someone came to the door, I told him I was there to pick up an order and I gave him the name the order was under. The employee told me to wait a minute and closed the door, leaving me outside. Five minutes later, he came outside and told me the order that we paid a $300.00 deposit on was not ready. NOT ONLY WAS IT NOT READY, IT WAS NEVER EVEN CÒOKED! So there's that!!! I had to contact my work to let them know that the food was never cooked. This caused a huge problem for us because we now have to scramble around trying to get food for 40 people. I can't say the things I am thinking about this situation because they are not nice, but I can suggest that you never try to have this place cater your events. My bad for thinking that just because we were told the food is good that I should expect good service from them, ACTUALLY ANY KIND OF SERVICE!!! I can't in good faith give them any stars for their service, food, or ambiance, so disregard the star you see because this place doesn't do good business. First of all, I wouldn't feed my dog this food! I ordered rib tips, greens and a side of baked beans and it came with a bottle of water. The meat was mostly fat and had zero seasoning, they simply threw them in the oven and slapped sauce on it. They're not even grilled/smoked. The greens...omg They smell like spoiled seafood! As soon as I opened the container the smell almost made me puke. The beans were just ok, I didn't eat those either. The topper for me was the water! I went to open the water and the SEAL WAS ALREADY BROKEN!!! So I'm thinking they're refilling these used bottles with tap water! This place should be shut down, seriously. Upon arring home I was greeted to THICK BOILED BEEF SLICES, BOILED PORK RIB CUT UP (these were supposed to be rib tips) and BLAND SHREDDED PORK. OMG! Brilliant from start to finish with many successful decades to come, I know! Let me start at the beginning, which was several weeks ago... There's a man with an arrow sign on the corner that says something about BBQ and tacos. And then! The fragrance! Exquisite BBQ for blocks as you drive by. I have made a mental note for weeks to stop by. So after a morning of heavy errands, sometimes you don't want to cook. I decided to give this place a try. Now, I'd been to this location before in the past when it was under different ownership and to be honest, I walked in, looked at the menu, found it over priced, and I didn't really like the ambience, so I left. Fast forward to many months later, I walk in and was blow away by all the exquisite artwork! All the ancestors are up in there representing! I was intrigued by $10 specials as advertised on the building. I was immediately impressed by the straight forward and reasonably priced menu. Actually, GOOD prices, far more reasonable than Tori's and Colo's (the other local soul food options). Speaking of Colo's, I immediately wanted to know the hours, because I find Colo's so sporadic. So Uptown is open right now Thursday through Sunday I believe the gentleman said from noon to 8pm, Wednesday hours coming soon and most excitingly to me: taco Tuesday hours TBD and coming soon as well!
