This project was not an exciting "Lets update our 20 year old bathroom and make it stylish and pretty". Instead the project started due to an undetected leak, the stress that comes from random water leaking in random places, and was filled with questions and concerns. Countless others "assured" me that this was a plumbing issue or just due to some neglected maintenance on a 5 year old new-install shower - and then wanted to blast holes everywhere to "find" the leak. At the same time, I did not want to rip apart a shower to then find out it might be plumbing and now a full on repair. I felt overwhelmed in making the wrong choice and doing 2 projects chasing my tail. Lucas walked me through all the typical scenarios that he has seen, leaning on the most probably is a structural fail of the shower system and then did a methodical exploration. A couple hours later and a minimal demo, he confirmed that it was in fact not plumbing related and was def. a failure of the shower system -- and walked me through what it would take. Once his team was onsite, they were focused - creating a whole "clean room" at the entry to the bathroom. 1 day demo, 1 day water-proof, 2 days tile - all while providing the proper time for dry-out and leak testing between steps. Lucas is a perfectionist, being critical on the most minor details -- which to someone that also strives for this level, but has no idea what they are looking for, was very much appreciated. Additionally, he has instilled this value in his team - that are true craftsman with their skill. Each step of the process was walked through, discussed, and made sure we understood the task, goal, and expectations. This is why I say Lucas/Soma Tile was a true partner in this project, as it wasn't a fun project -- it was an overwhelming stressful start where Soma Tile helped take some of the burden and concerns off our shoulders and work it through with their own expertise, experience, and dedication - ensuring every step was executed with precision. This is a review for Floors by Marcel. We talk interviewed him a few years ago along with some other vendors but chose no one. Then two weeks ago mama said it was time. We interviewed two guys only. Marcel and another guy. The other guy was gonna use water based products. Marcel oil based. The other guy was gonna sand around the stair spindles, Marcel was gonna take them out and flat sand each step. We would have to haul out all the furniture with the first guy. Marcel would remove all our furniture, put plastic down in our garage and put the furniture there then bring it back into each room. The other guy would not put new felt footies on everything. Marcel would. All that was for starters. When we looked at the two vendors my wife said there was no comparison. Marcel was more expensive but he was far and away a better value. We chose Marcel Marcel's men carefully took off the 130-year-old molding along the floors. Numbered it all and brought it to the garage. He used high efficiency machines so there was hardly any dust. His men worked with skill and determination putting in really long hard days. They carefully cleaned up each night and made living in a construction zone as barrable as possible. he gave us choices of stain and applied it professionally. Then the high-quality varnish. Not two coats but three! He moved everything back in place carefully. He is an old-world craftsman from another age, somehow living in today. If you want your home cared for as you would care for it you want Floors by Marcel. If you want a cheap fast job with zero attention to detail and excused when the job is done hire the other guy. We have more floor work. our choice is obvious floors by Marcel. His prices were fair, even generous considering all the extras he did not even charge me for, just threw in to make his finished product more than we hoped or imagined. Most vendors today promise much and find ways to cheat you. Marcel promises much then over delivers. His workers were gentle and we felt safe with them being in our home. He is a rare vendor.
