I brought 3 rings to be repaired earlier this year. One needed resizing, One needed resizing and repair, and one needed repair (engagement ring). In less than a year, the one that was resized is the only I am able to use without issue. The one I got resized and repaired, fits well, but within two months began to scratch the side of my finger so I stopped using it (I only used it on occasion to begin with). My engagement ring, on the other hand, I brought in for a second time (less than 4 months after it was first repaired) in the spring thinking it might be a different bracket that is snagging things. Within a few months, another bracket is causing snags again. I really want to like this place. The customer service is friendly and personable. However; the idea of having to take 2 out of 3 rings back for repairs is concerning. They offer insurance which covers any future repairs but it is pricey for my engagement ring. At this point, I am waiting to save up for another repair, just not sure if I will take it back there. I take care of my rings. I have a desk job so they are not exposed to chemicals, hard surfaces, or excessive wear & tear. Simply put, disappointed in the quality of the repairs and unsure if I should trust it a 3rd time. read more

My husband and I popped in here a few weeks ago on a whim to peek around. I've been wanting to change my setting on my ring so we thought we would stop in. We did call before to make sure we didn't need to make an appointment ahead of time because we were going to come on a Saturday. The gentleman that answered was so kind and told us we could just stop in whenever and didn't need the appointment. When we arrived, we were greeted right away and all staff members were wearing masks. The shop was very clean and they had a lot of stunning pieces! They were a good amount of people in the shop when we stopped in so I think making appointments in the future could help control crowding. I forgot our associate's name but she was also kind and was interested in learning about what I wanted. Because we stopped in here randomly, I hadn't cleaned my ring in over a week so it was noticeably dirty. I mentioned it out loud and the associate noticed also but said oh don't worry. A different approach to this situation could have been taking my ring and cleaning it out of courtesy. I've been to multiple jewelry stores back when my husband and I were engaged and looking for wedding bands, and most places we went to offered to clean right away while we looked around. One of the co-owners ended up coming over and introduced herself halfway though our experience. She seemed knowledgeable about the shop and offerings. At the end of our experience while we were receiving pricing for a new setting, they forgot to include the credit for the metal on my current ring. When presenting a final price to a client, I think it's so important to have every single detail included. I wasn't ready to make a decision that day but that didn't mean I wouldn't have come back the following day or week. Neither employee asked for my contact information to follow up so I thought that was another missed opportunity. Overall, it's a great family-owned shop. After repeated emails to Heather Wahl and Parker at Wahl Jewelers in Des Plaines , they would not refund our $40 for the initial repair and stood by their position it would cost us $360 to repair my wife's ring. They told us bring the ring back to them and would show us the problems the ring had. Last week we went to the jeweler on Jeweler's Row in Chicago where we initially bought the ring 16 years ago. They repaired, added gold and shined the ring for $15. And said if we have any problems they would resolve. I recently lost my engagement ring, which was obviously devastating. Thankfully it was insured and getting set up to get it replaced was a breeze. Insurance asked me to find a local jeweler and after some light online research I settled on RC Wahl Jewelers. I figured 5 generations of jewelers must be doing something right. The process could not have been better! I received a replacement ring from my family (long story) and decided to replace my wedding band, which I really hated. After one trip to browse, where Rissa was so very patient with me, I came back with my Husband to make some decisions. If we could give RC Wahl Jewelers 10 stars, we would. After getting engaged, we had an issue with some of the small diamonds falling out of my original engagement ring. After getting them fixed once, then having another fall out, and the original jeweler saying that I was being "too rough on the ring" (one of the small diamonds dislodged when I was petting my dog while he was lying down and grazed his collar), we decided to get another opinion from R.C. Wahl Jewelers. We worked with Parker for a majority of the time we spent there. He was friendly, understanding, and we could both feel that he was genuinely upset for us that we had a not-so-great experience with the other jeweler. He gave us multiple options for how we could proceed with my ring, some options that involved keeping the ring and some that involved buying a new setting. My husband and I had visited other jewelers that pushed us to buy a new setting, and we could sense that they just wanted us to spend money. Parker truly just wanted us to 1.) not have to worry about missing diamonds and 2.) be happy with whatever option we decided on. He knew that both my husband and I LOVED the original setting, so he even suggested that if I kept the main diamond and went the route of getting a new setting, he could take the original setting, replace the missing small diamond and create earrings from it that I could wear on my wedding day. We decided to go with a new setting (picture shown below) and I absolutely love it. Parker went through numerous settings with us, for at least an hour, until we found 'the one'. He was so patient and kind. He also helped us pick out both of our wedding bands. In addition, during our engagement, I talked to Parker and worked with him to get my husband's wedding band engraved (as a surprise on our wedding day), and my husband bought me a pearl necklace as a wedding gift. Everything that we have purchased, and every experience that we have had at R.C. Wahl has been wonderful! Probably the best part about this family-owned company is that you truly feel like family. My husband and I live in Milwaukee, WI now, but are originally from the Chicago suburbs. Almost a year after buying my new setting and our wedding bands, I called to ask if I could bring our rings to get cleaned before our wedding. Even a year later, Parker remembered both of us, remembered that we lived in Milwaukee and that our wedding was coming up soon. He was just so sweet! Fantastic Jewelry store! Great find! I bought a new watch and needed to have the links taken out. They were very helpful and quick. While my watch was being shortened, I had a great conversation with another staff member about my watch which was being replaced (very expensive and very cheap materials) and also learned a little bit more about watches which was pretty cool. My husband bought me my engagement ring last January and since then, I've had a total of 6 diamonds fall out of the band (on 2 separate occasions)! When I walked into RC Wahl to get a free replacement of the fallen diamonds, one of the salespeople said I had to pay $40 to replace ONE diamond. I asked that I was concerned about the longevity of the ring because diamonds keep falling out, but she said that it wasn't "bad for the first year." How am I suppose to wear my engagement ring for years if the first year was unsatisfactory? It's embarrassing to keep telling my friends and family that I can't wear my engagement ring because I'm afraid the diamonds will fall out. I was pleased with the look of the ring, but not the stability. I wish that they could've waived my fee for the diamonds or at least given me more options (e.g., create a new ring). Wow is all I can say to the 5 star reviews. Maybe the fact that the reviews are not current. I had to bring in a piece of jewelry that I purchased from them for repair. I was told that this piece of jewelry was to be worn at a minimum and that if I continued to use it daily that that could not warranty it any longer. The staff is rude. I witnessed an elderly lady being disrespected because she had asked pricing for a watch battery and declined to have the battery replaced due to th price. I was very disappointed with Wahl. They charged me $350 to refurbish a watch that belonged to my mother who has passed. I wore it once and the new crystal Wahl had put on fell off. They kindly replaced it at no charge. I wore it once again and the new crystal fell off. I realized when my shirt got snagged on it and one of the time arms fell off. I went back to Wahl and they did not offer me a credit of any kind due to my troubles. Even more disturbing, they would only by the gold part of my watch from me in exchange for store credit. If they can sell it to provide a store credit, they can buy it too and I know they have done this as a courtesy for their customers in the past. I guess I wasn't worth the courtesy. Now I am out $350 and a watch. I will never use them again. I feel like filing a small claim against them just for the principal but its not worth the negative energy! read more

I brought two very old and well-worn 14-carat gold (diamond) rings to Wahl Jewelers recently upon the suggestion of a friend. One had been my Aunt's engagement ring, made most likely in the 1930s. I had worn it for 28 years, and the band had simply worn out. The other dates back to the early 1900s. The small diamond in it was chipped and the ring looked rather beaten up. They gave me a quote on the older of the two immediately, then called within 48 hours with a the other quote. I gave the go-ahead at that time and the work was completed within a week. I was completely satisfied with their work and found the sales people to be warm, welcoming and very knowledgeable. He had the wedding band choices exactly in my budget, all picked and ready for me to look at. My choice too less than five minutes and it was exactly what I was looking for.
