Your report states that my vehicle was not present at 9:48 a.m., yet I was legally parked at the location for under 40 minutes, well within the posted 1 hour time limit. Bella and company are running a scam! Shame on you. A security guard from one of the stores on site personally witnessed my vehicle and confirmed I was parked less than 40 minutes, and informed me that this towing practice is frequently misapplied. This further confirms that the tow was unlawful. Under California Vehicle Code §22658, towing a legally parked vehicle is illegal. I request a full refund of all towing and storage fees immediately. They towed a vehicle I don't drive- it was basically a storage pod on wheels. A minivan I used as a commercial van (seats removed)...full of work equipment and boxes. I am not paying the insane towing fee, so agreed to hand over my keys and ownership of the vehicle...but...I need to get my things out of it. I called ahead of time and was told to come any time before 5pm. I showed up at 3:30pm. My van was parked all the way in the back, surrounded by cars on three sides, and a building on one side...all about 3 inches from the van. You can get the driver door open, but NO OTHER DOORS. I told asked the lady to bring my car out. She said no. I told her it was LITERALLY impossible for me to get my belongings...she said "sorry". For about 20 minutes, we go back and forth. She kept saying "we can't help you to get your things. Your van is there." Uh, you are LEGALLY required in the state of California to allow me access to my personal belongings, and since it's parked in on all sides...you're not providing me access. I tols her that I would be coming back tomorrow with a police escort (I haaaaaate cops, but ‍), and she said "tomorrow they will bring evvvvverybody's cars in here and the lot will be full" "So, you're saying you're going to park 20 more cars in front of my car, and I can't ever get my things?" "You can try tomorrow. Maybe." Meanwhile, there were SIX TOW TRUCK DRIVERS RIGHT THERE that could have dealt with it. I left. I went to Van Nuys Police Station, every cop there said RC Towing has a reputation. The cop I was talking to said "they're a bunch of dicks" (his words). And they all agreed. When a COP calls you a dick, you're really awful. They gave me the number to get a "civil standby" (the cops will show up at the tow yard and force them to make my vehicle accessible). I called RC Towing to kind of give them one last chance to do the right thing, and to make it easier on everyone by moving my car NOW when they only have to move two cars (instead of tomorrow after they park 20 more cars in front of it or whatever). I was like...I'm coming tomorrow morning. I'm bringing a police escort. I wanted to give you a heads up so you can move my van to the street, or to the front of the lot. So it'll be good to go when I get there. He told me to call and tell them in the morning. He was super nice, but like...WHAT???? The place is open 24 hours. Tow trucks are running 24 hours. If I was paying them, they'd have to get my van out. Why do they not realize that they STILL HAVE TO GET IT OUT even though I'm turning it over to them? She said "we cannot move it, it has to stay on the lot". Okay, ANNNNNND???? Keep it on the lot. Move it somewhere the doors can be opened. I recently had my car ILLEGALLY towed from this alleged "towing company". It was towed from my very own parking spot in my building! You can only imagine my shock one morning when I arrived to my underground parking complex only to discover that my car had vanished. I sure did not understand why it was towed since this has been my spot for 10 years. I even had my parking decal displayed! When you arrive to their "lobby" it feels like a run down disgusting jail cell. You speak to someone behind a glass partition . Suddenly this young "employee" shows up with an extremely disheveled appearance, baggy oversized hoodie and starts glaring at me (see photo). She does not say hello or nothing, she says " give me your ID", commanding you like a drill sergeant. She then says my car was towed from my own parking spot because my parking decal was "not displayed properly". She then demanded I pay $375 to retrieve my car. The whole time she is carrying a condescending, patronizing tone and also appears under the influence of some type of substance. Usually I would confront an employee on their poor behavior, but due to the circumstances I decided to bite my tongue, pay the fee and get the hell out of that shady, dirty office. Afterwards I consulted with LAPD who also agreed that my car seemed illegally towed and suggested I can take RCs Towing to small claims court. But it was not worth all the hassle just for $375. Instead I reported the issue to my building manager who then reimbursed my $375. When I arrived to the place, the girl in the office stated it was going to cost me $452 instead! This morning I watched a driver from this company accelerating his tow truck backwards at high speed through a crowded parking lot in our apartment complex. Upon backing onto the exit road he hit our parked car causing thousands of dollars of damage. When confronted a few minutes later, the driver denied all knowledge, saying that there are five different trucks operating on the property. I had been there not even 30 minutes and that lot allows for one hour. The ding-a-ling parking attendant Carlos sent RCs Towing a camera phone snap of 2 identical Teslas -- one of which belonged to me. No doubt -- I believe there is definitely a kick back scheme going on here. When I showed up to get my car without paying because I had done nothing wrong, I quickly learned that was not going to happen. One of the employees tried to slam my arm in the window as I blocked him from shutting it. I yelled so loud my head started pounding and I thought I was having a stroke. After that, I left to get cash and file a police report at the nearby Van Nuys station. When I went to pay, the woman said cash, or charge. I used cash, but if she said credit at first I could have rescued my car much sooner. Supposedly, the Police Commission can refund my $355 illegal tow charge.
