Came here for the first time with a friend and got boneless galbi, pork belly, mushrooms, and corn cheese. For banchan we got kimchi, pickled radish, a potato dish that's sweet (gamja bokkeum?), and a bean sprout salad. The only thing we ate a lot of was the potato, and they actually gave us a free refill of it! The boneless galbi came with only eight slices. They were super delicious -- the marbling on them was beautiful. The pork belly came with three strips and there was also cuts in it (I assume for faster cooking/searing). The meat also came with four slices of zucchini, one onion ring, and a few mushrooms. The zucchini was delicious on the grill! The mushrooms were really delicious -- it came with cremini and oyster. I particularly really liked the oyster mushrooms. For dipping sauces, there was finishing salt, soy sauce, and a soy sauce/wasabi combo. The finishing salt was really good with the meat and I used the soy sauce for the mushrooms. The corn cheese was really good -- one of the best I've ever had. It didn't have the usual mayo mix (which is good for me) and instead it was cooked in something sweet (brown sugar?). It was really good and not too rich. I could taste that the corn might be frozen corn though as it was pretty chewy in some parts and didn't have the usual bite fresh or canned corn niblets have. Regrettably, after I took a picture of the banchan, I forgot to take a picture of everything else. Service was really good, although they didn't oil our grill.. I have been to the Burnaby location a few times and not too impressed, therefore, decided to give this location a try because they said this location is supposed to be better. This place is located on the upper level of Hannam Market on North Road, parking in the plaza shouldn't be a problem. We were greeted by one of the server and were promptly seated. I would say the tables are decently spaced out with a very causal ambiance. Here were the food we ordered; 1. Kalbi tang. The soup was a bit lacking in taste and the short ribs needed to be a little more tender. 2. Premium beef combo. The beef were fresh and tender except for the premium rib eye steak, it was not so premium, quite touch and chewy when cooked. I couldn't tell if this place was better then the new Burnaby location. The service was a bit more attentive and better but besides that everything was the same, nothing to be running home screaming about. Got some take out tonight for dinner including their beef patty bibimbap, mega bento with chicken and beef as well as their soft tofu soup. There was nothing wrong with the food at all and reasonable prices but there was nothing that stood out either and with the number of Korean places in the area, I always look for the best. The beef and chicken bento came with two bowls of rice but the meat itself was nothing special with no bold flavours and could've been made at home. The soft tofu soup was actually quite tasty with a load of tofu but the amount of seafood was small, especially because they used dried shrimps instead of real shrimp. The standout was the patty bibimbap since it had some cheese and the spicy sauce on top wasnt too spicy but plenty flavourful. The combination as weird as it sounds went together great making it a unique and delicious rice bowl. overall, the food was okay but there are many other Korean places nearby to try! read more

We ordered a meat set combo, along with some a la carte dishes. * Premium beef como ($147.95) ~ this set comes with boneless kalbi short ribs, premium rib-eye, marinated ju-mul-luk, and marinated kalbi short ribs. The Marinated kalbi short ribs weremy favourite, I loved the mmarinate and the juicy beef. 10/10 recommend this combo, we had 4 people and this id say Is a good amount for 3.5 people to share. The beef was all super juicy and fresh and delicious. * Tteok-bokki ($14.95) ~ this was another good sharable dish, it had rice cake, fish cake, boiled egg, and scallions. The sweetness and spicy ratio was perfect. Howeverthe rice cakes were a tad over cooked and a bit too mushy and soft I wish it was more firm. The fishcake was good. * Ojing Eo Dub-Bab ($14.95) ~ this was served in a super hot stone bowl with rice, and spicy stir fried squid. The dish wasn spicy in my opinion and the squid was delicious with the rice. Well seasoned and I loved the crispy rice the stone bowl has created. It had loads of cabbage on top which added a nice crunch and texture to the rice. * 9/10 ~ the meats and rice bowl was phenomenal and we would 10/10 get again. The tteok-bokki was alet down as it was so mushy and soft the rice cakes. However id still come back for more meat and to try the other stone bowl rice dishes! * 7/10 ~ portions were good, 4 people we ate and was satisfied not overly stuffed, it was the perfect amount for us. The meat is always cut very beautifully and displayed nicely it looks very nice. We ordered the "lunch box rice" which is so fun! You get this cute little lunch box with basically kimchi fried rice, fried egg, lettuce and seaweed.... and you shake it up to eat it! Side dishes included pickled daikon, seasoned Brocoli, kimchi , potatoes very standard side dishes. I like the pickled daikon which you could sort of wrap the meat in it making it extra crunchy! We ordered a takeout feast and tried a lot of different things - the mega bento box, beef tartare, pancake, mackerel, jokbal, pork belly fried rice, bibimbap, and tteokboki. Out of all the dishes, I think the mega bento box is the most bang for your buck. I was also very impressed with the bibimbap's packaging. My favourite dish was the beef tartare - big portions! Out of all the north road eateries, this seems to dominate in ratings, and I can understand why. The booths are nice and private, with TV screens inside playing the corresponding Kpop music videos to the songs currently playing in the restaurant. They have call buttons with very fast service as well. It is more pricey here, but the quality is good. This time we ordered the Combo A for the grill, spicy cheese chicken (my favourite and actually not that spicy in my experience), and the beef tartare rice bowl. The meat selection for the combo was nice and the marinated meats tasted fantastic. If you wanted more flavour they give you a side tray of spices and sauces for dipping. They also regularly check up to change your grill. You can ask as well for more side dishes (I think they gave us about 4 different ones?). All in all I'll continue to go here for kbbq and other dishes. The menu is extensive so there are definitely more things I would like to try. read more

The pipe in the middle (the heat source) is hot and can be dangerous because it's not completely covered. Be carefully because my mother burned herself just by moving her leg too close. Arisu is one of the typical Korean restaurants that you'll find along the North Road corridor between Burnaby and Coquitlam. This particular location is on the second floor of a mini mall above the Hannam Supermarket. Arisu is fairly large in size but the interior is rather dark and dimly lit. At my booth, there was a small inlaid tv in the wall playing some type of k-pop video (although the sound was muted so it was difficult to tell). The menu here, like at many Korean restaurants, is geared more towards larger dishes which are shared among the table and there's not a lot of dishes that cater to single diners. After ordering my Bibimbap ($9.95), they brought out some banchan dishes comprised of stewed potatoes, broccoli, kimchi, and a green salad with a blueberry-like dressing. I was disappointed when my bibimbap arrived as the menu said that it was served with a raw egg (and the picture in the menu clearly showed a raw egg) and what arrived was a fried egg. The egg yolk was somewhat runny but it was not the same (I hate when menu descriptions aren't accurate). Supposedly, there was beef in this rice bowl but I didn't really see it (perhaps it was under the fried egg). In any event, I mixed it up with some gochujang (a sweet and savory hot sauce) and the rice bowl was somewhat okay. They also have dolsot bibimbap (ie. served in a hot stone bowl). I wonder if they would have included an actual raw egg if I ordered the dolsot version? Or maybe they knew that I wasn't Korean and thought I might not want a raw egg in my bibimbap? read more

We came here for their lunch deal where you get an individual dish (soup or cold noodles) and BBQ bulgogi all for ~$13! The meal was very filling. My tofu seafood soup had a lot of tofu, one egg, one mussel, and small bits of seafood (squid and tiny shrimps). The taste was a little fishy, but not bad. My bf said the cold noodles were good and the portion was huge, but taste was alright. The bulgogi wasn't the best quality, but was tasty when cooked with the bean sprouts and onion. Ambience 5/5: modern and new. The vents are strong which limits the BBQ smell. They have little screens playing music (Christmas music jazz style) in all of the booths. Food Boneless kalbi short rib 5/5: marbled and super tender. It's non marinated and has great flavor. Non-marinated kalbi short rib 4.5/5: this piece has a little more chew due to the tendon/fat near the bones but just as good Side dishes 4/5: only 4 which is significantly less than other Korean places but the quality was top notch. I was pretty surprised by thier cooked rice though. It was cooked to a perfection so very good! I always eat rice with yakiniku, not beer!! Atmosphere: I think that it is really cool that each table has it's own cook station, it's that touch that makes things a little more enjoyable. There is plenty of seating inside. I've been here a few times, and each time I've left satisfied with the food, service, and the subtle Kpop immersion. Once I was seated in one of their private rooms in the back with my coworkers, and boy, were we loud. They probably guessed that we weren't really tending to our meat like we should've due to the loudness of our banter, so they checked in appropriately to help us cook the meat. The other times I've been seated in the main area of the restaurant, and each booth has a screen that displays a playlist of various Kpop songs that are currently popular. Like true Korean fashion, they don't bother you unless they're delivering your food or you've pressed the button on the table to ask them to come to you. None of that "How's your food tasting?" business when you're two bites in and looking like a chipmunk. They have a great selection of stews, rice dishes, barbecue meat combos, and late-night snack type dishes that are fitting with the KBBQ culture in Korea. Highly recommend their ice cream+ alcohol drinks. The two I've tried are delicious cocktails that aren't too sweet but definitely get you buzzed. Plus they're more beautiful than Beyonce and lots of Instagram-worthy pics will come out of them. The popsicles they put in the drinks are traditional Korean popsicles that are mega-popular to this day. Plus the taste of the drinks change a bit as it melts providing you with a delicious experience :) The only qualms I have about this place that limits it from reach full 5 stars are they only serve 4 side dishes, when I'm used to ~6 or 7, and while most of the servers do perfectly fine with English, one of the servers I had when I came with my coworkers was very limited in English and so I had to translate a lot of the requests for both sides.
