I was cruising up Petaluma Blvd. and saw a sign for Real Doner and couldn't resist. It's a cute little spot with a shady outdoor parklet and a menu that features some classic Turkish favorites. I went with the chicken wrap and after 5 minutes or so was called up for my order. The wrap was definitely a full meal with tasty chicken, sauce, lettuce and tomato in a slightly crisped wrap. You really want to eat this over a napkin as drip potential is very high. The chicken was tender but somewhere between it and the sauce there could have been a little more flavor. Overall, though, it was a good experience and I would return to try other menu items. read more

Service is friendly, if a little challenged language wise. The outside seating is pleasant while indoors has a definite greasy spoon vibe. We got a couple of wraps (chicken and lamb) which started out tasty, especially with the charred pita) but got pretty bland in the end. Only cans for drink was also a little annoying. read more

Excellent service and food, couldn't ask for more! We came here on a Friday night around 6 PM and there was no wait time. The lady greeted us immediately and was super friendly. I ordered the chicken kebab plate and my daughter order the falafel wrap. I just wish the size of the plate was a little bigger because I spilled some of my food trying to cut the chicken, but it was super good! The kebab with seasoned very well, lightly salted, which I appreciate, instead of overly salted! Doesn't matter whether Turkish cuisine is on your radar, a favorite or if you have never had the food before. Bookmark this spot and check them out. Presently it's a carry out with an outdoors seating area. Their food is dream worthy. I think you'd agree if you gave it a chance. After the first taste I swooned into a love affair. I do love a good sandwich, burrito or shawarma sandwich and their combo doner wrap is all of that. A doner kebab wrap is kin to a shawarma sandwich. A wrap filled with shredded / shaved meats and veggies. Their combination of meat shavings, veggies and sauce in a wrap is heavenly. Other reviews suggested requesting tahini sauce added. Do that and ask if they have a hot sauce (that is if you like that. I forgot.. bummed I was. I opted to using what I had on hand. Flying squirrel coconut Sriracha. My stomach is grumbling because I am hungry just thinking about that doner wrap!) If you're picking up, I suggest looking at their desserts and ordering a couple. It's easy since they have installed a dessert display in the carry-out window. Divvy up the desserts, it'll last longer and everyone will be wowed. The plates we ordered which wowed me most and least. Most wowerful: Combo Doner wrap. (It's got all the meats and as others specified, ask for Tahini to be added.) Real Doner combo plate. (It's a great deal of food. Great for sharing.) Kofte kabab. (The meat melts in your mouth.) Kadayif Revani (if familiar with the north Indian dessert of Kesari, it's that but in a cake form.) Least: The hummus was weak sauce, forgettable and lacking. The plastic flip container failed and leaked hummus and oil in the carry bag. They should consider using a plastic bag with tie or the standard plastic tub with a lid. And, although I applaud them for using recycled material food containers, those things get warped if the food is traveling for too long. They were packed into tied plastic bags which entombed the containers locking in heat which becomes vapor that "wet" the containers. Two containers lost their shape, so whilst being removed from the bag our food spilled out across the table. #sucked So use caution. I wonder if they would be open to packing their food into your own carry out containers. Saves them a little on packing materials. read more

My favorite place to go in Petaluma. I am well familiar with Turkish food and tried it in many places including Türkiye and the quality of food here is on top! Their meze plate, homemade Ayran and falafel wraps are my favorites. The service is great too, always fast and super friendly. I had a very productive morning from going to the gym & playing tennis. Naturally, I was famished. I let my partner take the lead, and he recommended this place because it's one of his best friend's favorite spots in Petaluma. I'm glad I gave it a try. The food was BOMB. I was tempted to order the whole menu. Highlights? ​ -Appetizer Combo Plate: Light, Fresh and colorful! It contains Hummus, Eggplant salad, Dolma, Baba Ganoush( my favorite), Tabouli( Who needs a Kale salad?), Potato salad( better than my mother's. Sorry, mom!) and Kisir. Accompanied with soft and hot pita bread -Real Doner Combo Plate: The beef was divine! Juicy and flavorful. The rice was perfect. The juice from the meat was a major contributor. - Lamb Shish Kebab: The lamb was cooked to perfection! Texture? Tender and full of fat. Came here because of the great reviews. The food was great! Never had Turkish food before but it tasted very fresh and had in-depth flavor. Loved the appetizer combo! It was great to be able to taste the different flavors of Turkish appetizers. I thought the falafel pita was good, but I've had better. The pita itself was super good, and maybe the meat dishes might be better. Thought it was pretty pricey, but I was happy to support a local family-owned business. Delicious authentic food, I can't stress enough how hard it is to find good middle eastern region food in Sonoma county. I'm so happy I found real doner! The salmon shush kebabs were delightful and the rice and salad were so complimentary! I also love the dill sauce for dipping! The falafel are the best I've ever had, not dry but moist and herbaceous with just the right amount of seasoning. The appetizer sampler is also another no brainer for entertaining guests, so much variety and a hefty portion of pita to dip. We also ordered a lamb wrap, absolutely fantastic and the size of my arm. it was my husband & my first time dining here earlier today, and we were blown away by the quality of the food and generous portions! we had the pleasure to be greeted very warmly by the owner, Ozkan aka Ozzy, and it was all uphill from there. we sat outside in the lovely, relaxed patio area. we both ordered the entree of beef & lamb with rice and veggie side. it came with this very yummy & savory sauce that i poured on top of everything. our entrees also came with warm, fluffy pita bread. we found out later that not only is Ozzy the owner, but he's also the talented chef. we ate every last bite and even though we felt very stuffed, we really wanted to try the kadayif pistachio dessert & omg, it was sooo worth it with the crispyness of the noodle-like topping over the yummy pistachios inside the warm dessert. we really enjoyed being here and felt great vibes all around! thx you immensely, Ozzy for knowing how to prepare excellent, mouthwatering Turkish cuisine. can't wait to come back here for more culinary delights! Excellent Meditaranian food, good prices and probably the best falafel I have had outside of Israel and NYC!

Went for takeout on a Monday night. We had high hopes from the reviews but were disappointed. I had the lamb wrap for $14.95. It tasted great, but only had three 1 1/2 inch cubes of lamb!! Really? For $15 AND it is easily 13 inches long! Come on now... We also tried the appetizer sampler and all but the hummus tasted great. The hummus had no flavor. And for $16.95 it all fit into one styrofoam takeout container and came with only one small pita bread. Meh... Additionally, the staff person who helped us was not friendly, doesn't take much, come on now. Won't go back. read more

Their falafel wrap was a really decent size and very tasty! I recommend outdoor seating as it was really hot indoors. The waiter really did not come around, we had to keep walking inside to get their attention. The good! I got the chicken Kabob and it was fine chicken breast meet. Unusually juicy which was nice. Generally the white meat is dry but not theres. I didn't eat until 20 minutes later is kept hot by the rice. Flavor was spectacular. I have had kabob world wide and this was among the top for flavor! The rice was nice Persian style basmati cooked perfectly! The salad I don't know what it was but it was also good! The bad (not really bad) no roasted tomato! The chicken was small for $22.00 or maybe me being cheap! I will be back to eat the lamb, Schwarma and probably everything else. Why because I deserve it! Portions be damned! I'm happy to report that the Real Doner is the real deal! I've been on a Mediterranean kick as of late. Feed me a hearty falafel, a a chicken kebab, and some hummus, and I'm a happy guy. So as I was driving through Petaluma today for work, I decided to give this spot a try. Although it's in the downtown area, it's a little off the beaten path. It's a quaint spot. Nothing fancy. But they do have a nice outdoor patio. I wound up ordering the lamb & beef doner wrap (comes with lettuce, tomato, onion, pickled red cabbage, yogurt sauce, and plenty of meat). It's essentially a Mediterranean burrito. Very distinctive flavors. Everything tasted fresh. And this thing was HUGE (enough food to last me for two meals). My only minor gripe is that I thought it could benefit from a little hot sauce. I do like me some spice. I ordered my doner to go, and I was in and out in less than 10 minutes (and it only cost 10 bucks and some change). So if you're looking for healthy cheap eats in the P-town area, I would def give this restaurant a try. I think your tastebuds will be rewarded greatly. P.S. - this place is cash-only. read more

Been hearing the hype for Real Doner for many years, just never had the chance to really stop by and see if it was worth it. Was craving some Turkish food after visiting Turkey a few months back and figured this was the perfect time to stop by and give it a go. Despite the overflow of positive reviews, I had my guard up as I tend to find most Mediterranean food to be plain and unappealing to ones palate. To get the basics out of the way for those looking to skim the review, the restaurant is located more in a neighborhood setting versus downtown Petaluma. Expect parking along the street with no dedicate lot that I saw, but in all honesty it was not the bad with the ample amount of spaces available nearby. The restaurant itself is not glitzy, but that was fine with me, more of a sit down enjoy your food and head out. As for the menu, they serve what one would expect to find at a Mediterranean restaurant with many to go items if you are still hungry (I might of indulged in a few sweet treats). Price wise, do not expect to break the bank here, as you can break your whole family and not spend what one would only a few miles away in the downtown area, so a real bang for your buck. The portion sizes are huge too, so either come hungry or be prepared for a to go box. With the basics out of the way, I might as well touch on the service, it is more of a "Hey, yell at me when you are ready", versus a rushed server looking for you to get out of the restaurant right away. I had ordered the Grilled Kofte Plate, which consisted of a rice bread, meat and spices, and some veggies (Side of plain naan). While it may of not been the best, it was certainly worth it for the portion, price, and how fast they brought out the food (Not that busy though). Came here after I heard (really) good things. I was told it was a hole in the wall kinda place, with good food. And it's just that. They were helpful when we were ordering with vegan options. We were surprised to find a usually vegan dish is in fact not vegan here. I had the falafel wrap and nothing mind blowing. I have a fave local spot that hasn't been beat but I'm always willing to try a new place! I recommend stopping in here if you're nearby and hungry, wanting this kind of food.
